Thank you! A rare find where quality and price really aligned perfectly! It felt like everyone, from bar staff to kitchen to management were all contributing to the overall success of our evening. Such a pleasant surprise for a random find just off the M4 on our way back to Bristol. Thank you!

Had an amazing meal last night with friends, a selection of the light bites which were superb and the main courses - we had the duck and beef. The presentation was superb and the food outstanding. Great service, lovely staff, thank you Catherine.

Lovely evening, wonderful food, great service & a nice atmosphere. Will definitely look to visit again. The Prawn Bisque especially was fabulous, & the desserts very Masterchef-esque (& delicious) Nice local pub atmosphere with genuine friendly service and also good hearted interaction between other diners too. Very enjoyable.

Excellent food, busy time, great service and good atmosphere

My friends and I visited today as we were staying nearby and cannot praise the Wheatsheaf and staff enough. We were welcomed the minute we went in by the nicest staff. We all had the Caesar Salad which gets 100% it was delicious and the truffle Parmesan fries amazing. We had a lovely afternoon here and were made to feel like old friends. Big up and love to Tristan who is the nicest friendliest young man, that was so attentive and helpful to us all day, he even graciously dropped us back to our hotel as we were a bit lost. From three South London girls we want to thank you so much for your kindness and hospitality from the bottom of our hearts ♥️ and look forward to visiting you again soon xxx

We came here because we thought the chef was a Masterchef winner. But it turns out he left! We were assured by the staff (who were so welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu) that the food is amazing and it wasn’t a wasted trip. They were right! The food was phenomenal! Well seasoned with lovely flavours and definitely freshly prepared. I had the pork rib and it was melt in the mouth yummyness!! I can’t remember what my husband had but he loved it too. Honestly the best pub food we’ve ever had, feels like it belongs in a very posh restaurant! We can’t wait to come back.

Popped in for dinner on Sunday, absolutely delicious. I had mushroom arancini with pickled mushrooms, sensational!! My husband enjoyed the croquettes followed by the fish and chips, totally delicious, the curry sauce was to die for. I couldn’t resist a pudding and opted for the tonka bean pano cotta, another triumph. We were then treated to some great live music, what a great little village pub, fantastic food with service to match

We had a great evening here. We were here with friends many years ago, but it was not a successful evening and now there is a new owner. The bathrooms are new and clean; the food is very tasty, fresh and nicely presented; staff very nice. Well done!!!! We really enjoyed our evening and we really recommend this pub!!!

Fantastic food and lovely service. Chef Frake took the time to come out and chat with us which was lovely. The whole team was fantastic and very accommodating. Excellent food, particularly the calamari, the mushrooms on toast and the pork chop.

Delicious but I was taken aback by my pricey fish. It was good though and a treat.

A fantastic dining experience with a great atmosphere. Very busy but this is understandable as the food is tremendous. We had the 8oz steak and the pizza. Both were amazing and cooked to perfection. The scotch egg was delicious too. Finished off with the double chocolate tart and lemon posset. Attentive staff with a friendly smile. Thank you.

Absolutely delicious Sunday lunch today. Service was amazing too despite the heat everyone was so friendly and helpful. The roast dinner was the best we’ve ever had ! How you make the veggies taste that terrific is alchemy! Just sad we were too stuffed to have a pudding as they looked amazing! Definitely coming back soon! Thank you

This is a food-first establishment, a cut above gastropub aimed at fine dining classics kept simple. The pub building and setting is lovely too. Good wines and beers aiming for quality not variety, this is also a genuine local pub. We had scotch egg and cold potted smoked mackerel starters, both perfectly made and well proportioned. We loved the richness and flavour. "Wiltshire" sauce was delightfully fruity on the egg. Singed bread balanced the butter and let the mackerel spread super thick to get maximum smokiness. My main, the Frake's hake, had brilliantly crisped skin and moist flakey flesh balancing buttery herbed potatoes (maybe a little tarragon in there?) and green beans with a citrus sauce. Top marks to the mussels in garlic and parsley cream too. It's London-like pricing, but very good value as you can't get this quality at that price in town. We were unfortunately too full to have pudding but will be back when the weather is cooler. We were made to feel instantly at home by the young staff, I'd had to phone to defer our reservation as caught in an M4 tailback behind an accident and they couldn't have been more delightful.

Two of us has pork roast and two had beef roast Sunday dinner with cauliflour cheese on the side. Food was lovely, sizeable, well presented portions.

Sunday lunch was reasonable, beef needed a steak knife, not enough veg. Dessert was very small for the price. Overall a bit pricey.

Many thanks to the team re our visit on Sunday. What an amazing group of people. A special thank you to Louis who took customer service to another level by taking me to the local Tesco's. Brings back memories of how customer service used to be. Thank you all so very much Ally and Bridget

Run by masterchef champion 2020 Thomas Frake. Limited menu but good food.

Reasonable roast dinner but over priced. Beef slightly tough, Yorkshire's too crisp, not enough gravy. Cauliflower cheese was pretty bad. All in all ok, just not worth it for the price point.

Cracking countryside pub, not been for the longest time. Friendly staff, decent ale, and the food was great. Onwards and upwards.

Excellent service. Good Sunday Roast, though perhaps a bit on the pricey side. Single portion of Cauliflower Cheese is at extra cost.

Had lunch here today sitting outside in the garden. First time visit so wasn't sure what to expect but came away hugely impressed. The menu was not your usual pub fare, far better and more interesting in fact quite possibly the best pub lunch ever. The asparagus with wild garlic mayonnaise and an egg was simply delicious as was the scotch egg. Prices were very competitive and good value, the staff were very friendly and competent with fast service. All in all a great experience.

Fabulous Sunday lunch in a village pub with a great atmosphere. Always busy at the weekend,and many locals frequent it ,which says everything about the quality of the food, and the warm welcome from the staff.

Fantastic pub! We stayed in our campervan and had dinner on the Saturday and Easter Sunday roast the next day. Food was gorgeous, loved the wild garlic and potato soup and celeriac roast. For both meals the details were really thought through. Additionally, the staff were so friendly and offered to let us use the facilities and get coffee when they arrived before they opened on the Sunday, really lovely touch. Coffee was also great. We probably spent more than a night in a hotel overall but frankly we went to a pub with similar prices the next day and nowhere near as good food, it was worth every penny here! Looking forward to making the trip to return again one day. Seemed only fitting to watch the masterchef season when we got home :)

Hands down the best sticky toffee pudding I’ve ever had in my life! The chicken kyiv was also delicious and the service was superb.

Wow... What a great pub. I've been frequenting this pub for over five years, and I have never been enjoying it more. I believe that the pub is under new management, and you can tell! Food, service, mood, even the customers seem happier... Love it.

Excellent Sunday Roasts! We visited this weekend and found all of the team very friendly, cheery and helpful. The food (while a little on the expensive side) was absolutely fantastic! We had two roast beef and two roast pork belly and both were cooked exceptionally. Also a real tip of the hat to the best roast potatoes I've ever had!

What a lovely pub and restaurant! We went for dinner yesterday, and Alex and the rest of the team could not have done more to make it a special occasion. I have a food allergy and Alex went above and beyond to make sure I had nothing to worry about. The food was really really great, we will return!

Most enjoyable New Year with delicious pizza and cocktails. Staff did amazingly well - the 2 girls behind the bar were fabulous dealing with a super busy night and being short staffed. We’ll done team & Happy New Year

Op onze terugreis vanuit Wales met onze buscamper begin augustus hier gestopt om te eten en te overnachten(gratis als je komt eten) op weg naar de eurotunnel. En wat was dat geweldig! Heerlijk verrassingsmenu en wat een lieve mensen! Als we weer naar de UK gaan, proberen we zeker deze pub op de route te laten zijn! We komen terug😃 . De 2 boeken van Ollie zijn fantastisch!!! Ben nu in deel 2, al veel geleerd en flinke stappen gemaakt. Dit zouden schoolboeken moeten zijn! In t kort; geweldig in alle opzichten! Philip & Heleen en Tommie 🐾

Pub is ok but very pricey. Two lager shandies and a cider £16.30. won't be back. Sad.

Went there for lunch and had the gluten free pizza and potato chips (crisps) which were also gluten free. Pizza was a bit dry but I did not have a reaction. The chips were great. Wonderful atmosphere and helpful staff.

What a lovely evening last night! Celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary we were spoilt from the moment we arrived until we left. Not from this area and taking pot luck of where to eat, what a find. The service and food were excellent, thank you everyone. Thinking of booking here? Don't hesitate as you won't regret it.

Gorgeous back garden, quiet. It's in the centre of Chilton Foliat with parking out the back. Menu looks great and the drinks were good.

Pizza is very average with above average price. I ordered the margarita and it was all a bit flavourless, especially the tomato base. Nice selection of beer. Exemplary fries.

Only visit here if you love organic drinks as that is all they serve and £8 for a organic coke!!!!! and a half of organic Pale ale was a bit steep. The lady that served us didn't have a clue how to operate the till and there was not a single other person when we were in there at lunchtime. On the plus side the garden was lovely.

Went to visit a pop up shop on the premises before going to work,went into the bar very early,and asked if they could do an early lunch and they were so good,brought us really tasty small plates of food and coffees,could not have been better Thank you Wheatshief for putting yourselves out for us .Much appreciated.

The pizzas are properly cooked in a pizza oven and the toppings are really well thought. My black pudding and egg was amazing. As a starter we had the mushroom croquettes. Really nice! I think that they change the menu quite frequently to accommodate what's available locally so I am really looking forward to how the next pizza is going to surprise me. The service was really, really nice. We were all very impressed, even our dogs!

The place looks nice and welcoming, the customer service is polite, friendly and welcoming, but that's it. Food is extremely overpriced and what you get doesn't actually represent the high price you pay. My pizza was very salty and in general I wouldn't mind paying £15 for it, but it was really not worth a penny. My friend had beef shank with butternut squash for £19 and what she got looked like a bigger starter. What you see on the picture are two pieces of butternut squash, loads of beetroot sauce - filling the whole plate. Beef is just in the middle, hidden. Some kind of mash is just drenched in this beetroot sauce. Beef was almost cold and the beetroot sauce caused it to look and taste like cold liver. Drinks - nothing special and overpriced. Then you had to pay 10% service charge, which was automatically added to the bill. I'll never ever go back there again.

Our first visit (dinner) having driven past a few times. The menu of four choices was poor, we didn't fancy roast squash, mussels, fish or ragu, all at £18. A cheese on toast starter at £8.50 was okay.The pizza alternativeat £15 was thin and hard, tasteless. The table could have been wiped clean too. Unfortunately, dominating the room, was a group of six locals who generated enough raucous noise to compete with the contents of a school bus. Not the pubs' fault, they would have been better seated elsewhere. With better alternatives we won't be going back until the menu is remedied.

Never disappoints. They don't normally do a traditional Sunday roast but did this weekend as a one off so we thought we would try it. Everything cooked to perfection, just as it always is.
