The Stables at Vayre House in South Gloucestershire

We came for dinner and it was a lovely respite from the brisk September evening! The autumn menu has lots of new options and we particularly enjoyed the goats cheese starter and the cod and seafood bisque main. We tried the Bacchus Woodchester white - sharp, citrus and eagerly quaffed! We always enjoy our visits here and will be back once we have checked the open evenings for the autumn!

WOW ! What a lovely place, this is the first time i have visited but my sister is local and has been here several times before.. We were a party of 9 celebrating our aunties 80th birthday. The food was really nice and cooked fresh. The restaurant is a lovely building and very nicely decorated. The staff were all very helpfull, freindly, happy, polite and couldn't do enough for us. I would recommend a visit to The Stables to anyone, i just wish i lived nearer. Well done to the staff, keep up the hard work. A return visit in August 2024 for my Mum's birthday celebration. Another excellent meal at the Stables BBQ and another excellent experience. Food, atmosphere and staff all fantastic. Loved every second of our visit.

A superb little spot with very welcoming staff and excellent food. It's quietly tucked away, and I wouldn't have thought to find a lovely restaurant where The Stables is, but the location is lovely, with a nice bit of garden, outdoor seating and a decent amount of parking. The food was very enjoyable -- a small but excellently curated menu focusing on doing a few things and doing them well -- and they had a nice selection of drinks, including my all time favourite, a wonderful Pedro Ximenez (which I strongly recommend to any Port lover).

We are lucky enough to have eaten many times at The Stables and always had a great meal. Karen makes everyone welcome and all the team are so friendly and you’re not rushed. BUT, last night my wife and I had a meal that was simply superb - the starters of Chicken Taco and Beetroot Cured Salmon were fantastic but the main course of Beef Short rib for me and Hake for my wife were soo good, you just didn’t want the meal to end. So we had desserts of Baked Cheesecake and Blackberry Franzipan to end the meal. We particularly love that ingredients including the meat are very locally sourced and the Woodchester wines are really good. This is a very special restaurant with great atmosphere, wonderful food and drink and worth every penny for truly excellent dining experience. Can not recommend highly enough.

My husband and I had Sunday lunch at the Stables yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. We chose the roast beef and it was delicious as were the great variety of vegetables served with it, especially the crispy roast potatoes. Lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.

On entry we were seated and then waited 15 minutes for a menu. When viewing the menu the "waiter" who was very hard to understand stated he would return for a drink order in a minute. 10 minutes later he returned and took a drink order. Drinks were bought to the table and food orders taken. Meals arrived 25' later additional drinks were ordered, then a young lad returned stating that the beers orders were not available therefore a re- order was required. The meals were very small on a very big plate, and quite poor. On a visit to the toilet they were not very clean and were patently not checked cleaned throughout the evening. Very expensive bill for not a lot of food, with the food that was presented quite poor. It does appear as though the high final bill was to repay for the renovation and decor. Would not recommend.

A wonderful 18th Birthday Celebration for our youngest son which was exactly as expected - PERFECT!! As regulars to The Stables we expect the welcome, service and food to be second to none - and as ever it was - THANK YOU!!

It was my birthday meal and where better to treat yourself when in Chipping Sodbury than at The Stables. It had a pleasant ambiance coupled with polite and professional staff. The food was really delicious although the portions were just a bit too much for me, but at least I got to take the steak away and enjoy it for breakfast the next day!

First visit for a Sunday lunch with friends and couldn't fault the food and venue, all very nice. Unfortunately the proprietor needs to work on her customer service skills - we were barked at on a couple of occasions for playing with our toddler out on the grass, despite having an outdoor table. We had two children with us and ordered three 'babycinos' while we were there, basically an espresso-sized cup of foamed milk. When the bill arrived we had been charged £2.25 per drink - these are usually free or 50p-£1 anywhere else we've been! When we queried the price, we were told it was the same as a coffee?! Just not on. We spent a lot on the total bill for lunch and this kind of grabbing for extra customer money doesn't sit well at all.

Friendly service, amazing food, went for an evening meal with work colleagues and can't rate them high enough. I had the rack of lamb which was absolutely mouth watering. Definitely will be coming back. Sunday Roast next I think.

No me puedo quejar de nada de este lugar. ¡El servicio y la decoración interior es increíble! ! ¡Y tan bueno posiblemente mejor por la noche! Las pequeñas cosas cuentan y este lugar ciertamente tiene ese derecho. La comida en sí fue increíble. Tuve el asado de verduras y mi compañero el pollo. Mi plato consistía en patatas asadas. 2 budines Yorkshire bien hechos, judías verdes, queso de coliflor, repollo, zanahorias en juliana, brócoli y la mejor salsa de verduras. Soy quisquilloso y me asombra no tener ni una sola queja que hacer sobre la cocción, la presentación o el condimento. Optamos por el postre y pedimos la pavlova de frambuesa y el pudín de caramelo pegajoso, ¡bueno, estaba totalmente boquiabierto! ¡Simplemente fantástico! ! Vivimos en Gales y desearía que The Stables estuviera un poquito más cerca, ya que sin duda sería uno de nuestros habituales. ¡Absolutamente magnífico! !

Yo, cualquiera que sea mi familia, visité este pequeño restaurante encantador para una comida de celebración. Debo decir que la ubicación es única. Los camareros nos hicieron sentir muy cómodos y cualquier solicitud fue atendida de inmediato.¡Lo que lo hizo tan especial fue la calidad de la comida y la comida presentada por un equipo tan joven de chefs fue asombrosa! ! ¡Buen trabajo muchachos! !Definitivamente vendrá de nuevo.

Popped in today at lunchtime we were passing through so hadn't booked. We had a table in the garden. Food & wine 10/10 my husband had a meat roast, I had the vegan option definitely recommend, beautiful. Service brilliant, very clean, toilets, hand sanitizer available. Thank you, very enjoyable.

We went on Friday evening, the day after reopening and were definitely not disappointed. We had fish & chips and rack of lamb and both were superb. And a great atmosphere with exceptionally good service matching the quality of the good.

Well. The Stables is the most amazing place I have visited. I have visited many times and each time the food is always at highest standard and is so yummy! A restaurant that is a credit to Chipping Sodbury! Definitely worth the visit Once the pandemic is over! You will Not be disappointed!

Was told this place was a sort of a gastro-pub. Reality is that is the food is actually pretty poor. First venture into England in some time and was pretty disappointed! Had the Risotto which was bland and the apple crumble was no better! Reckon your money is better spend elsewhere if you want a decent gastropub experience. Staff were lovely though. Pretty sure my visit was mid Jan but can't fully remember !

Went for a meal here late Feb with the family. Was disappointed by the quality and price of the food. £16 for a completely average fish and chips! Plenty of other places in the high street which offer brilliant food at lower prices. Waitress also insisted on calling us 'Sir and Ma'am' and then immediately joked she 'could not be arsed' with the workload today. Felt bizarre with a formal atmosphere then foul language. Bit too pricey and forcibly formal for me!

Billing itself as a upmarket 'fine dining' experience the Stables at Vayre House falls consistently short of this description.

First time visit. We live in the area and didn’t know this was here! Great restaurant, ambience, service and food was first class.

Went to this great restaurant for Sunday lunch. We both had roasts and the Beef and Pork lunches were both superb. Lovely food and setting and very good service.

Easily the highest quality food in Chipping Sodbury. Prices will limit the clientele, as they are high for the area but well worth it.

Wow what a beautiful meal we had. Food was excellent and could not fault this. Yes pricey but expect that for excellent food and excellent customer service. I am odd but even the toilet was lovely clean and like hand towels (flannels) for each use a nice touch. Will definitely return. Thank you to team.

A charming, cozy place with great quality food. The prices are very sufficient. Would definitely recommend this place. A good size carpark attached.

The restaurant interior was pleasant but nothing special. The serving staff young but very pleasant. However the food was excellent. Had the most wonderful fish dish with celeriac, mussels and capers and a super chocolate torte. The first course was a shared baked cheese which was lovely but simple. We are used to London prices but couldn’t believe how reasonable our bill was. I would really recommend and would definitely return if I was in the area.

We had an afternoon tea for my mother’s birthday. I can not rate this place enough. The place looks lovely the staff were very friendly. The afternoon tea was excellent value we selected the sliders instead of sandwiches and this was the best choice ever. The sliders were lovely (pulled pork, burgers and hulami) all amazing! Then sausage rolls and lots of cakes and scones! All was amazing and the price was brilliant we left totally happy and very full. Will definitely be returning.

This is such a gem of a restaurant. Inside it is cosy and homely decorated. The service was amazing and the food/wine were excellent.

I recently attended a family celebration meal in the company of Richard P who has reviewed The Stables and totally agree with him.

Had a short notice request to get my 84 year old father and step-mother in for an early dinner. Staff were very friendly and got me a spot.

Have used here before (for afternoon tea) and was most impressed. Sadly a family birthday evening meal here was very disappointing. Was fully aware that this was a restaurant that was top-notch in price for its ‘bottled only’ available drinks and its meals, however I wished for a top- notch occasion to be enjoyed by my family and invited guests.

Our second visit, excellent just like the first. I would say out of all Sunday lunch venues we have been to this rates the best. Excellent food, nice atmosphere, very polite and friendly staff , spotlessly clean. Shall be going back time time again and introduce our friends, excellent well done

Absolutely loved the place. Found it by chance and we were so happy we ended up dining there. Staff super polite, the place is very cute, portions are big and every single thing on our plates tasted amazing! Highly recommended!

Pleasant enough, the price for fish & chips is the same as ivy's in Edinburgh but not in the same league.

Fantastic food, in a wonderfull atmosphere, really looked after by karen and had a great evening. If you want something special, then this is it.

After this visit I hope they realise it's not as good as it was. Being left waiting for drinks when getting there to have to ask for them again and having some of the food under cooked and over cooked and even having to ask for the bill twice just seems so different to my other visits there. Not even offered coffee at the end. Just seemed a shadow of my other visits that were to be honest amazing. Weather down to to many customers or short staffed I don't know but it did tarnish the night for me and my family on our special night out.please take this on board and improve the quality as it was before as your restaurant is a lovely setting it just needs to be lovely service and food again, like at the start.

This restaurant is lovely - the decor is cosy and the music good. The afternoon tea is huge with a large variety of sweet/savoury food for all tastes! The mini slides are a good option to pick. Our waitress was also extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be back!

Attended a friend’s birthday party. The staff here are to be congratulated for providing a superb Sunday lunch, the best I’ve had in quite a while. Rather reluctant to spread the word about this place, as it’s that good! :)

We had a really good dinner at the Stables. This was our second visit - first was over a year ago when newly opened and everything was much improved. The menu is quite small but varied with a good choice and the ingredients are locally sourced. Each course was very well presented, but not over fussy. Portions were generous and food delicious. There was a wide selection of wines by the glass, including one from a local vineyard. Service was efficient and friendly. We will return.

Had the BBQ Sunday lunch here and it was fantastic. Meat and sides all very good and service and location great as well. Will definitely be back.

I last reviewed this place in July 2018 and although the food was excellent there were a lot of negatives. Some 12 months later and what a diiference. The food is still excellent in fact I would say that the food we had last night was better than it was 12 months ago. The service however has improved to the standard you would expect in this type of restaurant. All the staff are dressed in smart uniforms with badges displaying their names. Nothing seems too much trouble and the service is attebntive without being "over the top" I would highly recomend this establisment as it now provides excellent food and excellent service. There is only one thing that could be improved. When we ordered wer were told that there was no lamb available. When we ordered dessert one of the deserts on offer was not available. I feel that with such a small menu they need to ensure that they are able to provide everything on the menu. This is the only similarity to our last visit over 12 months ago. If they could ensure that the whole menu is available I would rate this establisment as a five rather then the four I have rated it this time

We got a table as a walk in as it was a Thursday (we were told during our evening that if it was a Friday or a Sunday then we would have probably have had to book). The outdoor seating area was also very pretty and had a lovely ambience. We sat outside and had a gin and tonic and our starter before sitting in the restaurant to have our main meal and dessert. The staff were welcoming and super friendly, the owner and our waitress Rachel both made our experience here top notch - great customer service! The interior inside the restaurant was stunning and had a country home feel to it. The food was incredible and probably the best local meal I have ever had (which says a lot as we are proper foodies!). We had the Homemade Vegetable Crisps with spicy mayo to start, followed by the Sous Vide Local Lamb Rump with truffled dauphinoise potato, picked carrots and a red wine jus, and for dessert I had the Mille Feuille with crème patisserie, fresh raspberries and raspberry sorbet and Martin had the Vanilla Panna Cotta served with macerated strawberries and Strawberry consommé. The accompaniments with the main meal really made the lamb dish incredible, you could really taste all of the layers of the dauphinoise potato and the whole dish was perfectly seasoned with a great balance of flavours. My dessert was light and well presented and beautifully made. I would definitely go back to The Stables at Vayre House again and I want to book in to go for their afternoon tea which also looks amazing.

Beautiful little restaurant that has been fully renovated behind the Grade II listed building of Vayre House. Keep a look out for the signs overwise it can be easily missed. We walked from the High Street of Chipping Sodbury. The Property still has its original features of Elm and Oak Vaulted Ceiling and the original Blacksmiths fireplace. ​The restaurant is clean and stylish, it had a great comfortable feeling and I felt relaxed. There was a peaceful ambience feeling. We walked up the pebble stone driveway and was welcomed by the lovely waitress Rachel. We sat out the front because the weather was nice and enjoyed a few Gins and also ordered the Vegetable Crips. For my main I had the lamb and for dessert the Panna Cotta. The lamb was cooked just perfectly and the vegetables tasted amazing. I didn't want the meal to finish and for the first time in a long time I got the urge to pick my plate up and lick it. Of course I didn't because that would just be wrong but that was how good the meal was. You can see into the kitchen and I have a little look and thanked the chef for a great meal. Will definitely be revisiting this little gem.

Visited here recently for the first time. Had heard good reports and we weren't disappointed. The food was first class and the staff were very helpful and friendly. It was good to be able to see the food being prepared in the open kitchen area.

Last week my husband and I had Sunday lunch at the restaurant. It was a great experience and we would highly recommend it to anyone who thinks they deserve to treat themselves! The food was amazing....we had the meat platter which served up three different meats alongside delicious roast potatoes, six very tasty veg dishes, HUGE Yorkshire puds, stuffing and topped off with the most delicious tasting gravy.
