Fantastic village pub, very welcoming.

This place is a gem. The best pub in the area. It is a time machine and you could easily be in 1979 or even 1959. If that is what you want this is the place. The beer is ok but food also circa 1979. I am surprised that frozen savoury pancakes are nt available, with Angel Delight for afters,, but the atmosphere and location overcome all.

What an absolute charming pub to visit! My husband and daughter, dog and me, decided last minute to go somewhere to eat and we stumbled upon *The Church House Inn*. We walked in to a cozy and very welcoming pub, dinning area with loads of antiques on display. The owners and staff were very attentive and made us feel very welcome we could have stayed for hours! We had the fisherman's pie each one with salad and wedge bread other with chips, side chips and sticky toffee pudding. The food was delicious π. We will definitely be back

Staying at a campsite in the next village, called for evening meal on recommendation of a fellow camper. Very oldy worldly pub which I like , excellent service , fair price and food was really tasty, standard pub menu but great for a nice tea out. Read some reviews about landlord giving preferential treatment to regulars and not being very sociable but nothing could have been further from the truth on our visit. All the staff very polite and extremely helpful.

Utterly love this pub. We've been coming here once a year for nearly 20 years, I keep saying to staff 'please don't change a thing'....and they don't. Beautiful location, gorgeous atmospheric interior, centuries old. And proper, no-nonsense pub food, and great beer. Please..... never change!

Great little country pub which must be hundreds of years old in a really nice village. Full of character and charm. Good beer and cider and the food was excellent. All freshly cooked and very good portion sizes as well. If I visit Devon again will certainly visit. Lovely walk along country lanes from Whitehills Country Park where we were staying to this pub. A great walk in itself but with the pub waiting it made it all the nicer. Could have stayed longer. Highly recommended.

After many years visiting while on holiday we were very disappointed this year. We went for a drink and meal but upon finding all outdoor tables were occupied just ten minutes after opening time ( which we specifically chose to least inconvenience staff and other customers)we were told we couldn't go inside with our buggy ( with our four month old granddaughter asleep) due to lack of space. Looking inside there was no customers there. We therefore left thirsty, hungry and disgruntled. Not a good way to end a lovely holiday.

Visited this Pub a few years back whilst walking. On retuning thought we'd drive out one night for a meal. The village has no street lighting and filled with double yellow lines as a result we couldn't park so had to leave without visiting the pub. On looking on Google maps there appears to be a pub car park over the road, not clearly marked on a barrier across the entrance. May be the pub should consider better signage as they must loose a lot of custom

We love this pub. We dined here several times whilst staying at Ramslade Caravan Site. The menu isn't extensive but what you get is good home cooked food, reasonably priced and served with a smile. We can vouch for both chicken and steak pies, chilli, curry, lasagne and fisherman's pie (which I had 3 times!). The pub has a lovely atmosphere and the locals are happy to chat to us visitors. Have known the Church House Inn for many years. This is a typical English traditional pub with enjoyable lunches and good service from the younger staff. Fine if you don't mind intrusive rock music preferred by the new manager. It ruins the atmosphere and imposes a downmarket image.

We booked a table on 7th September at 6.30 to celebrate my birthday. (There are only 2 pubs in the village but we loved the old traditional pub hence why we booked here). We arrived earlier and enjoyed a drink before our meal. The staff were extremely helpful (two young ladies behind the bar and 1 young gentleman who brought out the food). We ordered gammon and lamb shank. The food was excellent and cooked to perfection. For dessert we ordered apple and blackberry crumble and treacle pudding. Again these were excellent. We cannot fault the food - piping hot and very well presented. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they clearly enjoy working here and chatting to the customers etc. (They even wished me Happy Birthday π). We did leave a tip as we were very happy with the service and food. The staff were so grateful (sounds like not many leave tips which is a shame as its a tough job in hospitality). I would highly recommend this pub and you will not be disappointed. Thank you Church House Inn staff for making my birthday so special. Will definitely be back if we are staying in Stoke Gabriel in the future. Keep up the fantastic work.

I can honestly say the meal I had last night was amazing. I had not booked and was solo dining but that was no problem (normally I am certain booking would be essential). The restaurant is a lovely experience and has a very relaxed atmosphere with a great selection of music at just the right volume. Food is small plates and the recommended 2-3 plates was perfect, I added a side and dessert and small appetiser. Dishes are served in order as they appear on the menu. Each was absolutely delicious and were complemented by a delicious Italian red. Service was friendly and came with great explanations of the dishes.
