Steam Packet Inn in South Hams

We popped over from Dartmouth for a walk and a drink. Decided to go into the Packet for a drink and sat up at the decked/roof area, which has a fantastic view over the river, train station, and is lovely and cosy. We had wine and beer and found the staff to be very friendly and a warm atmosphere. Beer selection was great, and my wife enjoyed her wine. Can't say if the food is good as we just had a drink. Might pop in again, if for nothing else but to enjoy the view.

Relaxed, friendly, cosy place to enjoy really, really good food and it also has a nice choice of beers and other drinks. We were there midweek and were glad we had resered a table, it appears popular with visitors and locals alike. The bar staff were great and the two unseen chefs upstairs have to be praised for their work too!

It might be a little up hill from the station but you will not be disappointed with a lovely local atmosphere, traditional cosy pub. The food is so fresh. Climb the stairs to find a surreal now covered in outside seating area with a view of the rivers estuary you would not believe

Still as good as last year, perhaps even better, Sunday lunch was one of the best we’ve ever eaten, absolutely delicious with so many flavours 😋 also had sandwiches on the balcony which again were just so lovely 🥰 fabulous place & a definite MUST to visit

We came for lunch yesterday and sat in for a few hours, chatting to the locals and watching people come and go. We had a lovely lunch my salad was gorgeous and my husband enjoyed his pizza. The side of halloumi fries were a nice addition too. We were made to feel very welcome and it was worth a trip across from Dartmouth.

Had a drink on the terrace overlooking The Dart. We all loved our drinks. My Salcombe gin and tonic was served in a lovely glass .

Great atmosphere, friendly locals, delicious fish pie, well kept beer and good wine selection in a beautiful corner of Devon.

Great family pub with amazing food. Avg £20 per meal, pints are cheap. And the views over Dartmouth are beautiful at all times of the day.

A nice pub with a surprisingly classy upper sitting area. Food was excellent, the atmosphere is great, and service was inexperienced. Little pricey and they charge for fountain drink refills (got charged £6.40 for two glasses of Pepsi, yikes). Overall nice spot, but would go to The Ship up the hill for a more traditional pub experience.

Super atmosphere in this delightful pub!! The band was playing blues and the food looked tasty...the cider was flowing and the company very friendly!! Very enjoyable!!

Very poor understanding of allergies. Shameful really. I asked for fish and chips and said that I needed it to be dairy free (so that if peas had butter on that would not be suitable). I chose fish and chips because they would be dairy free naturally and not cause any issues for a kitchen. When it arrived the waitress gave me my ‘dairy free’ fish and chips (she actually called it that and said, just to let me know, the peas have garlic butter on them. They were on the plate with everything else. I said, butter? She said, that they’d had some issues in the kitchen. There was no offer to change the plate or do anything to rectify the issue. Really that isn’t satisfactory. I wouldn’t visit again.

Lovely atmosphere and Friday staff

Visited here for the first time. What a great experience! The chef was extremely knowledgeable and thoughtful about my dietary needs (coeliac and allergy to soya). He produced a special meal for me which was excellent. Strongly recommend anyone to eat here - the food was lovely, staff excellent and place was spotlessly clean. The views are really good.

Lovely pub, beautiful location and nice food - just a shame it’s not a little more reasonably priced! £20 for a burger and chips? Really paying the tourist tax with this one!

Nice little pub with a great refurb, good for a stop before bus back to Paignton or Brixham

The staff were really friendly and welcoming, food was very tasty. Decided to have a few smaller plates. Crab Bruschetta i would recommend. Spicy wings were very very good but only 4 which i thought was a bit tight even for a starter. Bbq pork belly was very small, tasty but far too small a portion. Very good place to eat, drink and relax but need to consider portion size.

Sunny 2nd floor Dart View if you get the best seats. Surpringly subtle bar food - just a pity the guy serving didn't tell us the kitchen was shutting as we were ready for more.

Great location fantastic views but the beer is the very best. Jail ale is a top tipple.

Lovely place, with superb terrace view over River Dart. Staff lovely and welcoming. Just had sandwiches and a pint but it was all delicious! Very convenient for steam railway station, too!

Love this place! Very nice intimate lil bar right next to the train station, the food is amazing! the the staff make it even better very friendly and welcoming. Can't wait to go back a for a few pints and some tasty snacks

We didn’t eat here but popped in on our way back from Dartmouth. This is a lovely pub with great staff. Plus, someone has really put some effort in to decorate the place beautifully. There is a first floor deck overlooking the station and its steam train, the boatyard and across onto Dartmouth. Fabulous and well worth a visit. They deserve success. PS parking isn’t easy at this location and is pay and display at the boatyard over the hill and it’s a one way street so don’t miss it!!

Ordered the calamari and garlic mushrooms and fries. Delicious. 3 pints of Jail Ale which was absolutely superb. Great staff. Very hospitable. Gave our dog some treats which were gratefully received. Will return very soon.

Lovely location right on the river

We had hired an AirBnb in Kingswear to celebrate my wife’s birthday and decided to go for pubmeal in Steampacket on Friday evening. Pub was pretty full with nice atmosphere. Service was friendly and efficient. My wife had the Monkfish and prawn thermidor, which was tasty, but maybe a bit too salty. About 2 hours later she had explosive diarrhoea which kept her up all night. Great start of her birthday. Me and my daughters were all fine. I strongly suspect the thermidor was not fresh and re-heated, causing acute gastroenteritis. The chef needs to consider his/her practice. In the mean while, I would suggest avoiding ordering anything which could have been re-heated from this kitchen.

We came here for a family meal for my mums birthday weekend. The atmosphere in the pub was nice however the Monk Fish & Prawn Thermidor gave my mother food poisoning within a few hours. This has kept her up all night and isn’t the best start to a birthday weekend.

Lovely cosy pub/restaurant we chose for a Valentines meal after an impromptu stop a month earlier for lunch when we were impressed with the food and decor then. This time round, we were not disappointed either, and had our meal in the upstairs restaurant. Very friendly and attentive staff throughout the evening, and we had an enjoyable 3 course meal. As this is quite a small venue, the tables upstairs were quite close to each other and consequently just felt a lack of privacy. It was quite busy and obviously very popular. Would certainly return again.

We enjoyed a lovely quiet Thursday lunch in the small but very nicely formed Steam Packet Inn. Renovated around a year ago this place offers eclectic but stylish charm and a warm atmosphere. My husband ate the Fish and Chips while I very much enjoyed the King Prawn Curry, one of the best seafood curries I've had in a long time. The fish and chips were rated highly too. Friendly staff, a great beer offering and two cocktails for £12. Pizzas felt a little pricey but the fish menu 2 for £24 (weds & Thurs) was great value as portions were hearty. Overall a great experience and we would re-visit if we were ever in this part of the world again.

Nice little pub with good real ales and great views over to Dartmouth.

What an amazing place, my wife and I absolutely fell in love with this on our stay in Kingswear. The food was consistently excellent even for picky bits to have with a drink or three. The pizzas are superb and the beers are well kept. Special mention had to be made for the staff who were always busy and rushed off their feet but were always friendly and helpful and happy to chat. You felt like a valued customer not just another tourist passing through. The seating is lovely and cosy inside with more of a restaurant feel upstairs and then the upper outdoor seating area is perfect in the sun. A real gem which has been lovingly upgraded and is a perfect stopover for a beer with spectacular views of the marina, the steam railway and over towards Dartmouth. Don't pass this by, it is a very special spot!

A happening place. Great for an early evening drink. It’s small and gets crowded and this is the quiet season! Food great, specials also besides the advertised menu of pizzas.

Amazing vegetarian pizza. A perfect alternative to Sunday roast for us vegetarians. Just be careful as the helpings are entirely. A plus not a minus. Service really perfect too. Great ace.

Excellent linguine and Pepperoni Piza 😋

Sadly, what was the best pub in the area, has now been taken-over and turned into a generic, tacky, 'all bar one' looking bar. It's lost all of it's previous authenticity, soul and charm. I'm scratching my head as to why. Such a shame.

Hadn't been down to Dartmouth since covid took the little boat across to kingsweir to visit the steam packet OMG how it's changed , it must be fantastic in the summer with the new upstairs veranda, unfortunately it was a miserable November Saturday, staff and food perfect , real ale was spot on , many thanks 😊

Oh no, they've completely ruined what was a really atmospheric pub and turned it into a tacky themed pub. What a shame. Lots of cheap and nasty furnishings already looking a bit worn and no woodburner or cosiness. Will not be returning to what used to be a little gem.

We went in here as a family( 7 adults and 3 kids) looking for coffees when sheltering from the rain, as the Ship nearby would not serve us coffee as it was Saturday. Big mistake by them ! We had several beers and coffees and hot chocolate plus snack of starters and small plates of chips, We enjoyed it so much that some of our number went back again twice and we joined them one more time whilst in the town Jail Ale went down a treat

Great pub, got the ferry over from Dartmouth. So good we even went back again. Beers were good, food also as was service.

We were staying in Kingswear for a weeks holiday and we ate at the Steam Packet 3 times as the food was amazing. Friendly staff, great service and the atmosphere was brilliant. We had such a lovely holiday that we are booking again for next year. Well done Team Steam Packet.

Brilliant harbour front pub with wide choice of Salcombe and Dartmoor Ales. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff, and an upstairs balcony with cracking views.

This is a lovely pub with great staff and atmosphere. Lovingly restored by the owner from the ground up, with excellent attention to detail. Would highly recommend for food and beer or a wide range of gins and other spirits. Nice upper deck when the weather is good. Good luck with your enterprise.

Staff and service spot on. Sunday evening visit so a more limited menu, but still something to suit everyone of 8 in our group. Sunday lunch was very good...lots of veg choice (big tick)

Most unfriendly pub. No spaces to sit so asked if we could sit upstairs. Barman said brusquely - too late for food. Someone sitting at the bar sarcastically said “Ta- ra” think they only like locals.

Wonderful place, great food and fantastic service from Kat who was a great host. Really enjoyed the crab linguine and skate wing. Large selection of vodkas and wines which went down well.

Visited lunchtime midweek. What a delightful find having waited some time for the refurbishment. Staff were friendly, welcoming and absolutely charming. As a result we stayed for lunch which was absolutely delicious. The roof terrace was an attractive location with sensational views. By 1pm pub was busy and is clearly justifiably popular. We will return soon.

Went here for our first visit today and what a great find. Sunday Lunch was fantastic. Lovely roast beef and all the trimmings. Highly recommended. Also the staff and setting is first class.

Great to finally visit, food was lovely, and the views are brilliant.

Dropped in for a pint on a long country walk. Even though we had a picnic - the food looked so great we had to have a small plate to share……. There were a lot of crab and lobster dishes. The crab bruschetta was perfect.

Came here for a family birthday meal in restaurant ,lovely food ,drink and staff . Was nice to see so many locals here as well

Went on the train from Paignton to Kingswear. Once at Kingswear we needed some refreshment. The pub is lovely and has a great atmosphere. The staff are courteous and helpful. We didn’t have food so can’t really comment on that but the beer selection was great. Great for a pit stop before going back on the train.

Just waiting for the train back to Paignton so decided to kill the 35 minute wait in the steam packet, I can’t comment on the food as I didn’t have time to sample any but from what I saw people were really enjoying it and it did look good. Great ales and a good variety of other lagers and drinks available, the staff were super friendly and I will definitely be back.

Have been wanting to visit since it opened and was pleasantly surprised at the outside eating area. The food was divine and we were blessed with good weather .Staff were very friendly and attentive .Will certainly revisit soon .

We booked Saturday night dinner and found it to be a lovely, unique and quirky little restaurant. The staff ( although young ) were extremely helpful when ordering and the food and drinks were delicious, so glad we found this place.

Went there for a pint. Seat outside in the beer garden. The weather was nice and sunny so the atmosphere in kingswear/dartmouth is pleasant. We decided to order a pizza...dreadful! Precooked base with a price higher than in Trafalgar square in London. I am not sure I will go back.

Came here on a sunny Wednesday afternoon and sat on the roof terrace overlooking Kingswear and Dartmouth. The food was top notch and value for money. This isn’t my first visit and will certainly not be my last.

Well that was lovely. The bar is good, the staff are good, the food was good (small plates they are not - there's plenty!). Make the effort and get the ferry across the Dart.

Rude staff and attitude. We walked in with our young family and we’re met with an obnoxious individual who had already looked us up and down and looked at us as I’ve we had two heads-a-piece. We weren’t the only people met with similar rudeness,...

Well this place has really failed , besides the bad atmosphere and rude staff it’s nothing like before which really upset me , the decor is nice and stylish but out of date and poor really , food is expensive with only small portions and...

We turned up on a wet day at lunchtime and were warmly welcomed by the bar man. The food was good pub fayre and came quickly. We weren't rushed even though we nursed our single round of drinks, and when we left we were wished a great afternoon. A good experience, and we will be calling in again.

We stopped for a nice lunch after travelling on the Dartmouth Steam Railway. Nice portion of Squid, Crab Bruschetta and a portion of chips washed down with a local G&T and very nice local beer. Thoroughly recommended.
