We have known this totally unique pub for many years & the recent new owners & chef have carried on the excellent reputation. The weather was atrocious when we visited & despite the pub being very quiet for a Sunday lunchtime the roaring wood burner, food & charming lady who greeted us made up for a very wet & cold day. Lovely to see customers bringing their dogs in.

Amazing venue - very cosy old pub, games room with pool table at one end and a large dining room/bar. Very friendly and welcoming atmosphere for us out-of-towners. Delicious, proper gastro food. Well kept beers. Just beware parking in the local area is an adventure!

Google has this down as a hotel, but we visited it as a restaurant - and what a restaurant it was! We heard they had a new chef owner and they did a fantastic job, with some delicious food. I had the pork chop accompanied with some cavallo nero, and this was lovely, although my own highlight was the mash I ordered on the side - this was splendid and so tasty to the point I wished I had a whole bowl of it! A really lovely meal in the Devon countryside, we'd strongly recommend.

We came here to eat on a recommendation about ten days ago and were not disappointed. The place has a lovely traditional feel and manages to act as both a pub and an excellent restaurant, something that's quite hard to find these days. The food was superb, both starters and mains, with some great twists on traditional pub food. The steak and kidney pudding and chicken pie in particular were wonderful. We wish the new chef owner the best of luck with this venture - local people and visitors are very lucky that the Church House Inn exists!

Outstanding food - beautifully crafted by chef Tim who has come from St John in London and The Seahorse in Dartmouth. Glorious, real dishes, full of flavour and craftsmanship. 5/5🌟 A truly excellent meal. Fresh seasonal well cooked and presented. Superb service by everyone, truly a hidden gem of a restaurant tucked inside this 13th century Inn. The menu is inviting and inventive and not trying to be anything more than superb quality cooking. Brilliant flavours and food combinations. A small menu, handwritten serving exceptional quality food. Eating by candlight makes the whole experience relaxing and informal yet the standard of cooking is very high indeed. Bravo chef.

A group of friends had lunch here yesterday, and whilst the food was mostly good the service and front of house was appalling. The food is very expensive, but the new owner needs to tackle the really bad front of house service. A lot of training needs to be done if he intends this to be a fine dining destination. The dessert menu was very limited, and when I asked what came with the Walnut cake, i was told "Cake and walnuts, which was insulting and totally unnecessary. We do not expect an apology but neither will we be going back. I wish the new owner good luck, but he needs staff that have had some training in customer service !!!

Incredible food. Really blown away by the quality of the cooking. Smoked eel starter on rye bread and cucumber salad was to die for. I could eat it every day. Mussels cider and leek sauce were also epic. Good sized portion and just delicious. Sirloin sharer was incredible and cooked to perfection, béarnaise sauce of dreams. Duck breast was the best I’ve ever had (and have lived in France for many years) the green bean olive salad it was served with was divine. All topped off with some homemade ice cream, flavours unique and creative. Chef (who has recently taken over the business) came out and spoke to most tables, he’s super talented and wish him all the best. A really lovely relaxed setting in a gorgeous old pub, in beautiful Devon village. If you’re a foodie, this will not disappoint.

Popped in for some lunch on a Sunday before we went off for a walk. The Church House is an absolutely beautiful building. 13th century or some such. A great example of a proper British country pub. The beer is kept in great condition and was all high quality stuff with some beer on cask from a local brewery only a stones throw away in Totnes. The staff were friendly and very welcoming. The menu has a small selection of meals which are clearly carefully thought out, and looking at our meals and those on other tables, the ingredients were of very high quality. The menu is hand written and must be new most days. My partner and I are both vegetarian so had the veggie option which was super tasty. If you're after a Toby Carvery this isn't the place for you. If you want something different, a culinary experience and menu options you haven't had before in a pub, then I'd recommend the Church House Inn :) 👍

The Church House has a new chef patron - and Tim is a fantastic cook. I had one of the best meals of 2024 there last Friday night - and who should also be there that night but Mitch & Ben Tonks of the Sea Horse in Dartmouth - and the Rockfish chain. Tim changes the menu regularly and its always innovative and full of surprises. I think we are very lucky to have him running the pub, and clearly from the growing number of diners, his reputation is already growing around South Devon. He's worked at the Michelin starred St John in Clerkenwell in the past, and of course at the wonderful Sea Horse, so his credentials are immaculate. We live in the village, just 60 metres away, so Tim's arrival is saving us a fortune in taxi fares! Up there with the very best in the South Hams.

Great little village pub with restaurant which we believe has recently been taken over. Visited on a midweek night and relatively late so was quiet. Extremely friendly staff and also very welcoming locals who came to chat and made a fuss of our dogs. Food was excellent, because it was quiet got the opportunity to chat with the chef who is clearly very passionate and knowledgable and committed to cooking locally sourced seasonal food so the menu can change on a daily basis. I had crispy ox cheek starter and my partner had confit garlic we shared these as we struggle to decide what to have as actually we would have had all of the starter's. Squid with chickpeas for main for me it was a toss up between this and the veggie option which was courgettes and butter beans. Everything was absolutely delicious. For pud we shared a raspberry and almond custard, fresh raspberries, toasted almonds and the most delicious homemade cold vanilla custard, it was almost too pretty too eat, tasted even better than it looked.. I will most definitely be back

Wonderful surroundings but horrendous food and service. Grossly over priced sunday lunch consisting of fatty cold beef, thin weak gravy, one yorkshire pudding, 2 roasted carrots and 3 roast potatoes with and the Side of greens was a plate of green luke warm wilted cabbage and also tried to charge £8 for 4 thin sausages for our daughter. Complaint to the manager was greeted with indifference however we did mamage to secure a reduction of the bill after a stern conversation. Such a shame as under previous owners the food as fantastic and well priced. We shall not be returning!

Gorgeous, cosy, friendly, great food. I phoned and left a voicemail to book a last minute table here and the landlord rang back to confirm the booking and let me know how to safely get to the pub, and park! Loved that considering my need for planning! Arrived and walked in to the most beautiful gorgeous rustic village pub greeted by a friendly smile from the landlady. Very welcoming pub. The pub was nicely busy for a quiet January evening with the majority of tables taken up by friends, locals, families and also couples eating and drinking. The atmosphere was lovely… Two log burners were alight which kept it nice and cosy! We were served drinks and shown to our reserved table within 2 minutes of arriving. The food… just delicious!! I was over the moon to see the vegan options, of which I couldn’t choose between the peanut curry or mushroom stroganoff, I went with the latter and I wasn’t disappointed. Home cooked and flavoursome. Good sized portions, and the omnivores in the group were very pleased with their Beef Ragu, Salmon and also Pork steak! Followed by desserts .,, including a chocolate and cherry vegan brownie! I had a feeling this place was going to be a gem as I read the reviews, prior to booking… so I wasn’t disappointed! I highly recommend to anybody looking for some delicious home cooked food in the South Hams within the setting of a gorgeous 13th century inn!

There were 2 wood burning stoves, making the place lovely and cosy, candles on all the tables and pretty lights above the bar. Service was excellent and the staff very welcoming. Lots of very narrow country lanes to contend with on route and parking not brilliant but in my opinion worth it. We chose roast beef and it didn’t disappoint. Meat was cooked to perfection and was wonderfully tender and generous in portion. Roast potatoes and veg delicious with a bonus side of cauliflower cheese and lovely red wine gravy. If you didn’t want a Sunday roast there were other things on their menu to choose from. A couple of our party had the liver and onions, which was delicious, but maybe a bit too much gravy (a little on the plate and some in a jug may be better) but that's a minor niggle, would go back next time we're in the area.

Rump of lamb course was excellent and my family were raving about the chocolate brownie dessert. Approaching this medieval longhouse on an autumn evening, its line of fairy-lights against its huge stained doors and whitewashed walls caught us in its spell at first sight. Sunday lunch (again), fully booked and I can taste why, the tenderest lamb ever, perfect gravy (recipe please John), light fluffy Yorkshire pudding etc etc. Perfect thanks!

Stopped here on our way home and decided to have lunch. A good choice of main meal roasts. I went for the beef whilst my husband had the lamb shoulder. Didn't take long to come out - was hot and wonderful. My husband reckoned it was the best lamb he'd had! I'd already looked at the dessert menu, but was too full to indulge. Very friendly staff and had a great pint of real ale. Would definitely recommend.

This place is absolutely fantastic! The pub is about 800 years old and has a brilliant atmosphere. We stayed for 3 nights in one of the two beautiful rooms. The rooms are spacious and very well furnished. The bed is really comfortable and the shower is brilliant.

Loved this establishment and would really like to return if in area again. Room very comfortable, food (dinner and breakfast) were delicious. Host and staff (two young ladies in the restaurant) were very helpful and extremely friendly. Loved the quiet little English village too, but still only 10 minutes from Totnes. Would highly recommend.

My Family called in today for a Sunday roast while my son was down to visit and as I've been here before we decided to call again. The gentleman behind the bar was friendly and engaging and knowledgeable about the pub and it's history sorted our drinks and left us to peruse the menu. We decided to all go for the Sunday roasts and we weren't disappointed the food was exceptionally well presented and brilliantly cooked. We fortunately saved room for desert as there are some tempting items. I recommend the churos. We had a wonderful time and will certainly return for a third visit. Highly Recommend

After a 6 hour journey to Devon, we were more than ready for our meal and Church House did not disappoint. We had booked for 11 people and I would recommend the pork belly - absolutely delicious and service was excellent considering there was a crowd of us.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon in early August, I arrived at this pub after a two mile walk in hot sunshine, gasping for a pint of Devon ale. The ancient front door was bolted against me, and a large sign on the door announced that closing time was 2.30. But the time was only 2.25. No other pub within walking distance. Would it really break the bank to pay bar staff to stay on for an extra 35 minutes on a sunny weekend at the height of summer? This would be an infinitely more sensible closing time at the height of the tourist season. Really disappointed at this (lack of) welcome!

Two of us went in on spec quite late on a Friday night. Place was packed with all the tables appearing filled & bar full too. They managed to produce a table for us & after an excellent pint, we chose a very good three course meal from a really interesting menu. Always a good sign when you have to shortlist your choices.Wine list was also good & service superb as usual. This place is the real deal. Definitely recommend it.

Pretty village and very historical pub. Tables are comfortably spaced out. We have been here a couple of times and the owner and staff are very friendly and enthusiastic. The beer choices include some excellent local beers and the house wines are good quality, although pricey by the glass. The menu is quite extensive and imaginative and the food itself was of a pretty good standard. Overall an enjoyable evening and recommended.

We had dinner & a lunch during a recent visit to the lovely village of Harberton. The owner (John) is a convivial host who works hard to please his guests. The chef, Sasha, prepares excellent food, perfectly cooked and well presented in generous portions. Our evening mains of lamb & chicken were cooked to perfection. Equally our lunches of fish & chips and sandwiches were delicious and served in the sunny garden. The desserts are very good and the blueberry & lemon creme brulee was exceptional.Thank you & well done.

Booked here for Sunday Lunch on our way back from a night away with parents. As we went in we felt we could have made a bad choice. The weather was lovely. The pub was very quiet. Yes, it has limited outside space to drink and eat, but it was Fathers Day. About 3 tables eating. Was it going to disappoint? No, fortunately not. The welcome was good and we were shown to table and menus given. Menu offers 3 different roasts and about half a dozen other mains. A good enough choice.2 of us went for Roast Lamb, one for Chicken and one for Beef. Vegetables came out separately. All was really enjoyed. Good portion sizes. The Lamb I had was excellent. Nice Ice creams were enjoyed including an unusual Cinnamon Crunch. Such a pity the place lacked a bit of atmosphere, as it's well worth a visit.

Our first visit to the Church House Inn and we will go back. Saturday lunchtime, early. We both had the burger which we enjoyed and the chips were very nice. It is a beautiful pub and has obviously had a good deal spent on it. I think it would be lovely later in the summer to be able to sit outside.

Stopped for coffee and pastries. Everything was really good, I had to buy more when I left to take away. A good little selection of toys too, which kept my daughter entertained when she'd finished the pain au chocolat that was as big as her face!

We visited during our stay in the countryside just outside of Kingsbridge. We came on a whim but they managed to accommodate us despite it being a busy evening. We loved the ambience of the place and all the dishes we sampled, if we’re ever back down here we will definitely return.

My children purchased ice creams here. They came back and said the portions were generous and tasted great(raspberry ripple) .
