This was the most tasty and delicious vegetarian food I’ve ever eaten! Being a vegetarian, I’ve eaten in a lot of good vegetarian restaurants. But this food was so delightful. You can tell a lot of care and expertise has gone into the food recipes and presentation. Well done! Run by too very lovely ladies who are very attentive hosts. Such a shame I’m only visiting St Ives as I would be a frequent customer. I’d suggest choose something you wouldn’t normally eat as you’re likely to be in for a lovely surprise. If meat eaters wish to try a very flavoursome alternative, that’s not only tasty but extremely good for you as well. The deserts were wonderful- my chocolate and orange mud pie with orange and ginger sauce and a choice of ice cream or clotted cream (naughty) - whilst chatting to my host was a great way to end my evening. . Thank you X
Stopped by for lunch. Very enjoyable experience. Everything you hope for at a pretty country pub. Located on a little village green easy parking. Welcoming host, great range of drinks and tasty well cooked food. Duck Ragu pie excellent! Great service, no negatives. Superb value. Retuning soon. Many thanks.

The Faulty Towers dining experience was just that. Brilliant.
A beautiful 3-course meal (80 covers delivered at the same time). Drinks ordered in advance so we didn’t miss a minute of fun. One of our party had their birthday that day and they made an “appropriate” fuss of him. A night to remember. Would highly recommend it. The owner is holding at least 2 more of these experiences…well worth £65 per person.
December ’24.
We booked 3 months in advance for 21 guests to attend a room in the restaurant for my wife’s 60th Birthday. Unknown to us, prior to our arrival, we had been moved by the management to a shed in the grounds. This “Party Barn” was totally unsuitable for our needs in December and had previously been declined when we booked.
Our frustration was immediately expressed to Jacqui the owner of The Trouble House.
All the guests needed to keep their coats on throughout the afternoon due to the freezing conditions in the shiplap constructed building that let the cold wind in everywhere. The coldness was further amplified when the staff had to open the door to serve us. The floor of the shed was constructed of loose gravel which was unsuitable and damaged our guests dress shoes which is not acceptable. Added to this we had three elderly relatives in attendance that not only struggled with the cold, but they were expected to sit on bench seats as nothing else was available in the barn. They really struggled with this.
Although Jacqui knew we were far from happy from our experience, and we had made it clear it was not what we had booked, she still charged us the full price including a 10% service charge on top. We expressed our dismay as soon as we were taken into the barn rather than the room we agreed on, and again after lunch. Surprisingly whilst settling our bill were not offered any recompense, even the 10% service charge remained.
Since the day of the meal, we have tried to come to a reasonable resolution with Jacqui over our poor experience at The Trouble House prior to writing this review, but disappointingly after several emails she has offered us nothing and has refused to respond.
A day that should have been such a special one for my wife has turned out to be a memorable one for all the wrong reasons.
If you are booking an event at The Trouble House ensure you have written proof of your agreement. Also do not trust the previous review dated 25th December ’24, it no where near reflects our experience and is possibly a management spin.
We were looking for some lunch in January and luckily spied the specials board on the wall. A great find with brilliant food and excellent friendly service and they catered sensitively for my gluten free requirements. It's not obvious from the outside that they do more than coffee and cake though, maybe a lunch menu in the window?
For some reason we waited for years to experience this wonderful place and so wish we’d done it sooner. It was a Xmas present from our daughter as I’d always thought it rather expensive without even checking it out properly. For the fine and extremely delicious dining experience we had, I personally think it was very reasonable (maybe not somewhere to go every week, but definitely to be considered for that special night out).
The food, service and venue all exceeded our expectations and we will definitely go again in the near future. It will be fascinating to look out their windows across the Hoe in different seasons.

Staff were very accommodating, we had a baby and dog and they welcomed us in! Found us a table out the way and also let us store our pram out their back corridor out the way. Friendly staff, tasty burgers! What’s not to like!
Stopped for breakfast while family shopping after Christmas. Found this little nugget down a side alley.
Lovely food, well prepared. Good value for money and friendly staff.
