Apr 2025 Still one of the best places for breakfast I've come across anywhere in the UK. Still doing a great job all the way around. Always look forward to breakfast here when in Hailsham 2023 First, remember its a small family run traditional cafe with all day breakfast that has multiple menu options plus traditional English menu. The service was happy and friendly. The food was properly prepared to order. Wait time was reasonable considering every table was occupied pretty close to capacity. For a local traditional cafe its a definite winner. Don't sit by the front door on a cold day, door doesn't self close and nobody seems to understand the sign on the door to close it properly. Only downside to the experience. Funny how the old people close the door properly and those under 50 don't seem to comprehend the sign 🤣🤣🤣 Be nice if the fixed or replaced the door.

Two of us had a meal, I had a prawn puri to start, which was delicious 😋.. the wife had a chicken Shashlik, the chicken was superbly cooked! So tender & tasty . I had a king prawn chilli masala which had a nice kick to it 🌶️.. accompanied by a mushroom rice, peshwari naan , Bombay tata’s & a few large bottles of cobras 🍺… Great friendly helpful service too Definitely worth a visit

Tried it again. I really dont understsnd tge good reviews. Chips tasteless, sausages digusting, chicken so dry overcoohed the skin dark brown in colour, fish very thin and small. Did not enjoy most went in the bin ........................................................................ Went back again today. Had 45 minute wait for sausage and chips plus curry sauce teice. Managed to get my order wrong. They were busy, three people working one went out on deliveries, another who was serving kept leaving to answer the phone. They had a big delivery order but did not tell people when placing their orders. chips not ready had to wait for them to be cooked which made the wait longer as there was a five minute wait just for chips. When I did get my order home chips was on the small side as though they were trying to make the chips last longer. Young lad behind counter could not multi task stood by the microwave waiting for peas, curry sauce etc to heat rather than continuing to make up other orders. The chef was not demonstrative enough she provided no guidance to the lad on what he should be doing. This is a good business but customers are not the priority as young staff are employed many who have no urgency or a welcoming approach just can I help you (very automatic). Stipulates it has been in the top 3 for fish and chips for the last three years. Wondering if buying a heap of newspapers and asking customers to vote for them has something to do with it? The owner needs to employ more pro active employees who can lead and prioritise. Firstly collection customers come before telephone orders. We had to wait several minutes for the lad to take the phone call there was no one else to make up orders. When you have a shop with ten or more people waiting to be served the telephone should have been ignored.

The Crown Hotel Pub was a disappointment for drinks and a meal that me, my wife and brother in law had recently. For our second round, I stood at the bar for five minutes and was ignored. Other patrons who came up to the bar after me were served. Finally, I went back to our table and my wife went up and was served. She handled all of our interactions henceforth with the bar maid ie. drinks and ordering food etc. When our food arrived, I was not given utensils or servettes to eat my food. Luckily, I just ordered chunky chips and so I ate them with my fingers. Unfortunately some had rotten bits to it. Needless to say we will never come back. however (don’t despair) there is a fantastic traditional English pub down the High Street which I would highly recommend. They have great staff, drinks, atmosphere and a very friendly manager who chatted to us about football and we even petted his dog. I suppose if you are a local and you come in you will be greeted warmly and served first. Beware the weary travelor seeking a meal and lodging (?). You will have to “bully” your way at the bar and if you sit down expect to be ignored. When you do get your food you can also expect a cursory check on how things are going. Speak up if you have an issue. No parking was apparent to us. Maybe around back. Dunno? And really don’t want to know!

Visited Friday for a meal with friends.as expected on a Friday it was very busy, we knew it would be as we use this Wetherspoon's often.served fairly quickly and efficiently. Food took a little longer to arrive which was not a problem .the fried egg with the all day brunch was rock solid ,we asked for it to changed straightaway which it was .2nd one not that much better but at least not bullet like. The fried fish was over cooked a tad and my friend had scampi served with baked beans instead of peas. A member of staff quickly came over and asked if my friend had touched it as it wasn't hers ,took it away and bought correct one. My jacket potato was fine no complaints. Staff worked extremely hard and efficiently. Still one of our preferred Wetherspoon's

Chicken tikka was obviously cooked earlier and reheated as it had charred edges but wasn't crispy, onion bhajis just tasted of old oil but couldn't taste any onion, chicken madras was lacking in madras, chicken chilli masala had no spice, chicken tikka masala was OK but nothing special. I read some of the reviews beforehand which said it was good, very disappointed there's no decent indian restaurants in Hailsham.
