Best Chinese/ fish and chip shop in Tonbridge, generous portions, great tasting food

Appalling service, incompetent, rude and argumentative. A 30 minute wait was in fact 75 minutes, a lady client, who had ordered before me, asked to see the manager who hid in the kitchen for a further 10 minutes. He then became aggressively argumentative with the lady, who asked for a refund. When my order finally arrived I left, having paid for it on my arrival, I was then down the road and questioned as to wether I had paid. When we unpacked the order, a meal for 4 people costing £85.50 it was incomplete, what few poppadoms there were were broken into small pieces. How can such a once excellent take away have gone do disastrously wrong ?

Went onto Google to look for a brewers fayre. Castle lake came up so we went. Bearing in mind you have all the big signs on the road welcoming all. We went to go in only to find members of public are not so welcome as access to restaurant is for premier Inn customers only. Maybe you should take the sign of the road and replace it with Premier Inn sign only. Very disappointing.

I need to do this quickly before it becomes irrelevant. I've seen other reviews criticising the condition of this restaurant recently. Those reviewers probably weren't aware that the owners (Whitbread) are closing it in two weeks! Consequently, my review isn't so much about the building or the food as it it about the staff. I was there on business which meant dinner on arrival day and breakfast on departure day. Because it's closing soon, choice was limited so that's not really open for discussion. In reality, I had the same dinner meal I'd had at a London branch a couple of days earlier. This was SO much better!! It really was - and I properly enjoyed it. Nothing to fault in any way. What struck me though was the attitude of the staff - all of whom will be out of work in two weeks - they were amazing!! I can't get over the manner, the attitude, the buoyancy and the general ambience around them. Amazing under the circumstances and it wasn't limited to one or a select few - it was something shared across the entire team. Beyond that, the morning crew were very much the same (though different people). I can't comment on the decision to close - that's a commercial decision for the owners - but if you operate a hospitality business anywhere nearby, slip in for a meal and if you agree with what I found, hire some of these people. You're unlikely to regret it! There's little point in saying more because as I've said, in two weeks' time, it's all over but if this goes anyway to helping any of that amazing team of people move on, it will have been worth my writing!!

Food is excellent and good value. Always a queue for a table at lunchtime. Staff are really nice too

Didn’t get the chance to try,turned up and notice on the door says ‘closed for the foreseeable future under new management’ would love to try when it is open so review not a true review o f the place.

Website and socials make this place out to be something a lot nicer than it is. There is no kitchen so food is cooked on small griddles behind the counter. The produce itself although claimed to be local was not great, bacon had no flavour and was dry and chewy. The sausage was no way a local butchers sausage, couldn’t even eat it - looking at photos of previous customers what I received was completely different. I was expecting a chunky herby butchers sausage and instead got something that looked like something you’d get for a £3 fry up in Benidorm. Toast burnt on one side to top it off. I think considering the equipment they’re using they do well but I personally would rather stay at home or eat elsewhere than pay for that standard. The coffee however was really good.

We are regulars at Basil - the food is good, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Can be expensive and the menu doesn’t change that often but overall lovely cafe.

We visited this restaurant Saturday was hoping to try the one next door but it was full However we managed to get a table in this one I love Indian food , I cook it and try many restaurants as it’s my favorite We was both in agreement that this was one off the best that we have had in Kent Will definitely go back

When this first started I went with friends and it was great. Went again on Friday it was a real disappointment. Too much batter, very little fish and both over cooked. Such a shame - sadly won’t be risking it again.

Just a few words ‘could do better’. Lovely setting, popular but gone down hill since last visit. Staff could do with some training.

Very nice hotel and clean room. Nice large tv. Hotel could use updated but very large hotel but very friendly. Biggest disappointment was no lift.

On September 4th I placed an online for collection order for some fish and chips, money was taken from our account. I went down to collect only to discover Saltwater was closed for refurbishment. No notice of closure on the website. Since then I have emailed requesting a refund but have had zero response. Not impressed.

Big Nero coffee shop. They have a very unusual decoration. Mostly in matching things, the service was nice. The coffee was as expected. They have some hot sandwiches, cakes and chocolates to pick The toilets could be better. Possible some music will make it more pleasant You can pay with card or cash. They have a take away option.

I’ve ordered chicken curry , egg fried rice, crispy shredded chilli beef and a pancake roll. The food is amazing . Very polite I no you wait for a delivery but it’s because there SO busy go and pick it up we’re local . I ordered mine at 9,20 and they said 15 minutes which I was , when I got there it was ready and VERY nice . I will be back
