Good to find a quiet haven on the High Street in Tonbridge that is open 7 days/week with mid-week opening from 8.00am. It is independently owned and operated with their mantra being summed up by the three words "made by us". The welcome at 8.10am was genuinely warm and friendly. I ordered a large Cappuccino with almond croissant plus the full breakfast but swapping sausage for bacon which was not a problem. I was allocated my table of choice and all items were served to me. The coffee was strong and hot, the breakfast comprising two slices of delicious toasted sourdough with butter, two perfectly poached eggs, two large rashers of gently smoked side bacon and a spoonful of baked beans. All very well presented and wholesome except for the beans which lacked flavour and were too watery. My firm recommendation would be to source beans from Branston as, after many years, they have the best sauce and flavour. Overall an enjoyable visit and I will return.

Can't believe the need for another price rise, yet another 20p added to a cup of coffee. The trialling of gratuity machines at the counter last year was abandoned due no doubt to their dislike by customers. Come on Finch House, pay your staff what they are worth, accept the significant profits you no doubt earn and look after your customers by keeping prices stable and competitive.

Absolutely vile. Went here about 5 months ago and had a horrible experience. Gave them a 2nd chance with a group of friends and was hoping for improvement. Well, the place was filthy. The floor was covered in spillages, tables uncleared, which have been there for a while as everything had dried up. There maybe a pest issue as there was a lot of flies around. The food counter itself was greasy. I opened for bottled drink and a wrapped bar, as I could only imagine what the kitchen and food preperation area must be like. The staff don't care for the place or the business and it shows. A really horrible place and can only suggest to avoid it and find another local independent to support.

Time to give The Finch a second chance - post Covid and a new menu I’m certain things will have improved. Well very disappointed, desperate for a cooked breakfasts I chose the new English Breakfast from the improved menu. It consists of 2 rashers, 1 sausage, 2 poached eggs, beans and soda bread. When it arrived the beans looked slightly burnt, the bacon overcooked and dry and a poor excuse for a sausage. Worse of all was the two poached eggs which were essentially fried with solid yolks. These were impossible to eat and I politely informed the staff that they were poached nor edible. The kind waiter was very apologetic and said they would replace them. Well the replacement order must have fallen to the back of the queue, rather than being at the front, so they could rejoin the rest of the meal, as by the time I’d finished there was still no sign of them. On the way out I said I didn’t want to eat the eggs on their own, and no longer required them, to be honest I’d also spotted either my replacement or another order on the hot plate which was suffering a similar fate to my original. Overall very disappointing and no offer of an alternative such as a cake, as they did look nice.So if you want hot food best to give it a swerve and hopefully an alternative will spring up in Tunbridge as it will make a fortune...

We had a trainee take our order who was on her first day, she made lots of mistakes, but who doesn’t on their first day so not a problem. Then I had to chase up the mug of tea as no one brought it to the table. My wife had smoked salmon and eggs, but sadly the eggs were poached to within an inch of their lives so we’re very hard. I would have expected runny eggs. The cheese and the brunch toasties were nice though.

Has a cafeteria feel to it but I feel that the food could be better presented to customers on entry. The interior is bright and the toilets were well maintained with good covid measures in place. Because of the layout it is hard to create a good atmosphere as people tend to queue or wander about while you are eating.

Nice looking place - busy and so we gave it a go. We both ordered large cappuccinos which were very weak. Went to the manger lady and she said you get 2 shots in a normal and large cappuccino so all you get for the large is more milk - brief discussion but she didn’t get the point that a larger drink should have the proportionate coffee shots and said we would have to pay for extra shots, ummm that’s what we paid for with a large one surely??My gripe is the fact she was dismissive and “that’s how it is chum” type of attitude - rude. This wasn’t helped that s 12.30pm I asked for the cooked breakfast which she just said “we have sold out of everything” and apparently had no eggs , babs, avocado or anything and so I asked what dishes were available and she said only sandwiches - again “that’s how the cookie crumbles” voice. I’m fed up having to voice this incident on Trip Advisor but I told her that if she did not feel the need to address the coffee position I would ask her followers on trip advisor how they consider that customer service stacks up - she didn’t really care - shame, but you chose not to put this right. A little lesson in listing to your customers.

Visited the Finch House on the day that restaurants were allowed to reopen following lockdown. Good systems in place to ensure social distancing. My partner had a toastie which he really enjoyed and milkshakes are good. However I was not overly impressed with the quiche - served on its own, side salad would have been nice for the price you pay.

This is probably the most expensive cafe I have ever been to. £6 for a cheese toastie is outrageous. At the front of the place they offer children’s lunches but no trays or bags, so when I took my 2 children I had to carry 8 food items to the till. I thought I would add a packet of crisps to the lunch but they charge £1 for a single packet. To top it all off, there was hair in my daughter’s sandwich. This place charges ridiculous prices for tiny portions and it’s only Tonbridge! A complete rip off, avoid.

About 2 years ago I went here and brought a coffee and a sausage muffin. It was not good. 1 dried up small sausage sliced up in a muffin. The sausage was dry and not nice. I didn't eat this and took it back, politely complaining. At this time as I was told by the Manager that nobody else complained! Anyway I was refunded. Let's move to now. Since that experience I had vowed to not go in again. However, 2 years later I decided to give it another try. So,last Saturday I ordered a bacon muffin costing £2.75 and brought a nice coffee and sat down. A few minutes later the said bacon muffin arrived, it didn't look very appetizing. Squashed, as the muffins are in a toasting sandwich maker. It looked a bit sad sitting by itself, thin, meak and lonely. At this point seeing no bacon popping out of the sides I felt a deja vue coming on. I was right, I opened the muffin exposing 1 small piece of back bacon sitting all lonely in the middle of the white muffin. I really could not believe they had were serving this and charging £2 75. I went to the counter and complained to a friendly duty manager, she was very apologetic and said they would make another, I declined and took a refund. She also refunded my coffee, which was a nice gesture. I reiterated to her that I I felt whoever manages the food costings/portion control at Finch's could believe that a tiny small piece of bacon in a squashed muffin was actually acceptable. There just is no excuse you,it's totally ridiculous. It's pure greed and not treating customers fairly. Mistakes can happen, but this was not a mistake. In essence the actual cost value of the food for this meger breakfast could only be up to 40p max, and I'm being kind. I've given 2 stars, only because the Manager was so helpful. Finch's should be ashamed. It's over priced and a rip off. I will not be going back ever again, and bag yourself a lovely hot large sausage roll across the road from Gregg's! Half the price and yummy.

Spartan and crowded furniture maximising customer base at the expense of comfort. Coffee and food of good quality though food somewhat pricey. Finch House is a busy little place on the corner of the Pavilion Shopping Centre in Tonbridge High St. It’s always ultra popular on a Saturday lunchtime and this visit was no different. But, despite the long queue, the food arrived quickly by a smiling, friendly waitress, and was surprisingly and amazingly superb. Surprisingly? Well because the soup.... or stew ( it was marked up as stew, but was more like a soup with crusty freshly baked baguette and butter) would have not looked out of place in a high-end Thai restaurant. Absolutely delicious, plenty of it and the bread was to die for! But it most definitely was SOUP.... not a stew at all - far too few bits in it and cut too small for a stew. But I’m in no way complaining. I’ve eaten some great soup at Finch’s and I rate this one as the best yet. I want that recipe NOW! As always, Finch’s delivers great food even at its busiest times, and the staff keep on smiling throughout. Well done Finch House.

Finch house appeals to a certain demographic but I suspect the owners have become complacent . This establishment is staffed by eager young people but lacks a systematic catering approach. Coffee shouldnt take 10 to 15 minutes to make. The server also wasn’t clear about what came with certain dishes, so there was some confusion when we received our order as it hadn’t been put through the till properly, or at least that’s what we were told; however the mistake was rectified. I was extremely disappointed recently to be given a disposal single-use plastic cup over the counter when I enquired about water. Had it not already been filled when presented I would have refused it as I'm completely against single-use disposables, except when absolutely necessary. My surprise (and subsequent disappointment) stems from the fact that I consider the Finch House a stylish cafe that was one of the first to really make a stamp on the Tonbridge coffee scene in recent years. However most of the other cafes in town now have water stations with glasses, which not only seems sensible with regards to not tying up the wait staff or having to wait in line personally for water when the cafe is busy, but it is also a nice customer addition to a meal or coffee. The member of staff was accommodating, but as I read in other reviews, was not particularly personable or friendly. I agree that the level of service has decreased over time. Unfortunately both my cake and my friend's brownie were dry and did not appetitise a great deal - not enough to return them but enough that I wouldn't get a cake again. Great location and beautifully presented but please don't get complacent! Friendly staff are worth their weight in gold and can make or break a return visit. They need to understand that they represent their employer's business and if they don't share the passion should probably not be frontline staff. We will return in the future but I will be looking for changes in the above points before ordering next time.

Had 2 coffees and carrot cake there today as usual. But problem is now you have a new member of staff (lady with orange/ginger hair in ponytail, polish possibly?). making the coffees. My latte last week made by her was just a milky coffee, husbands coffee was as usual. Today my latte was good, his coffee looked like gravy once he'd put cream in. He did ask at counter if you'd changed coffee brands (he said it was the horrible cheap bitter coffee Costas use, that's why we stopped going there) They offered a refund or replacement but he was put off of it by then. We left a full cup on the table when we left. He always drinks it to the bottom. Mine was good. It's not the fact that it's different staff making it, it's her that's messing it up. Others make it the same, There should be a protocol in making it so its the same every time whoever makes it. I know 'its only a coffee' but I have to work an hour less tax to get the money for it! So have decided not to ever go there again, one member of staff has lost you two regular customers!

Decent coffee and a good range for breakfast. The porridge with fruits, nuts and honey was fab. Was very busy but staff remained smiley, the lady on the coffee machine was working like a demon and must have an incredible memory as she didn’t mess up any coffee orders!

When in Tonbridge we go to Finch House (have Waitrose free cards but fed up with the 'depends who makes the coffee' as to whether it's good or not, especially Sevenoaks Waitrose, no training on coffee machines!) Had the orange and lemon cake, excellent, fresh, big, tasted homemade, lovely, keep thinking about it when I think of Tonbridge. It's more expensive than as I said the bland 'chain' cafes, but more individual, food looks fresh, appetizing, staff know their jobs, which I say makes a business. I hate a staff member not knowing how to make a coffee or food item. I'm working at least a hour to make the money for a coffee so I want a properly made one. You feel your moneys well spent. It's clean, tidy there unlike a certain 'chain' café I could mention. Nice surroundings as well.

Have been here twice and had a really good experience both times. I ate the most delicious chocolate fudge cake and their quiche is really nice too. It’s a little bit expensive for the portions that you’re getting but the service was really good.

Visited for the first time for lunch with friends. We were two couples with four kids between us. We all had something different and enjoyed it very much. Not particularly cheap for sandwiches for lunch but they were very nice and I would be happy to visit again.

A popular place to meet people, or so it would seem. They have crammed quite a few tables and chairs in so space is at a premium and leg space is small. It is quite busy with people beetling about all over the place.A decent variety of food (from pies to cakes via savoury snacks) in display cabinets open to the shop staff. Of some concern was the dripping air conditioning unit straight on to the counter, splashing onto the prepared good. I mentioned it to the assistant who said management were aware. Oh, well that's alright then! The latte was nice enough and my croissant (well away from the dripping air con) was fresh, so the good news is that the snack was nice, if quite "hurried". That part of the high street had a couple of cafés so I shall have to try one of the others as a comparison.

The choice of food at the Finch House was good for lunch or an afternoon snack whether you want something hot or cold. There are soups , pies , salads, sandwiches or a great selection of cakes. I had a chai latte for a change and it was very nice. It is always busy but you can usually get a table downstairs with additional seating upstairs if needed. It is one of nicest places for lunch in Tonbridge in my opinion.

So why did I only give them four stars? I have spent a lifetime working in restaurant management, my main focus was customer service and food hygiene. Very rarely I go somewhere that get 5 stars. The visit today was great and we will definitely visit again. Food hygiene could improve, I'm not a fan of food servers wearing jewelry and they all seemed to wearing earrings with 'stones 'in them. A food serving utensil was dropped and then put back on the chopping board then put to be washed, but the chopping board wasn't taken away and washed and I'm not convinced that the tongs would've been if I hadn't mentioned it. So, perhaps, training might be an issue. The staff were all lovely and said goodbye when we left...a very rare occurance in most cafes!

My family comes here whenever we want to have a quick bite to eat in Tonbridge, and we enjoy it every time. I particularly love the smoothies and the soups with the fresh bread- especially the sweet potato one. Lovely food and a lovely atmosphere.

I visit the cafe frequently but never had breakfast before. So yesterday I had the breakfast crepe which was tasty but quite small and not much of each filling inside. I wouldn't hurry back for breakfast however their cakes are amazing!

Nice, friendly cafe in the town centre which hits the spot - all is home-made and tasty. We had a very good ham and salad sandwich, a toasted flatbread with mushrooms, cheese and spinach filling, and a good banana and blueberry muffin, and fresh, well-made coffee too. Staff welcoming and helpful - not expensive either

We were very impressed with the interior of this cafe which is nicely decorated and still feels cosy despite being quite a large space. We stopped for breakfast, including very yummy and reasonably priced pancakes (just over £5) and a sausage muffin along with two very good coffees. The cakes and pastries also looked very tempting so we will definitely be back again. So refreshing to have such fresh food which is reasonably priced.

It's good, Very good food and cappo. The hot salt beef and the award-winning pie in particular. True, the mashed potato is not quite as buttery and like mother used to make but rarely anything is but not at all bad.The service is quick and efficient. But, and there is I am afraid a but and it is this, to enquire why it is really necessary, while one is eating, and certainly before the cafe closes, to have a member of staff sweeping up around you. I should rather not run the risk of dust being an unexpected additive!

Recommended this place by the local bank, and so glad they did! There were only 2 tables free in the large coffee shop at 11am...a good sign to us. Served quickly at the counter, reasonable prices. My hummingbird cake was delicious and the size of the coffee mug was large! Toilets were clean and easy to access. Lovely place to relax and enjoy.

It needs a better system where the restaurant is. Long queues need more staff members clearing tables to minimise length of queuing. Many people queuing are elderly and cannot spend long time standing around. Staff are friendly and helpful. There was plenty of outside seating, but cold weather people didn't want to sit outside. Perhaps if they were to cover the outside during the winter months, then it would reduce the time people are waiting to be seated.

I have visited the Friars many times over the years, very rarely do I use the tea room as years ago I had an awful experience with the staff being rude to us there. After what must be 7 years I thought we would try again. Sadly the staff were still rude and disinterested. The food is basic and good, the environment is of course wonderful so it’s such a shame that the staff can’t make that little bit of effort to make someone’s day. This is a place with many visitors after all. Of a team of 4 that I could see, 3 were looking in their phones and the lady that served us could just about be bothered to talk to us. I’ll give it a go in another 7 years maybe 👎🏼

Myself and a group of friends decided to do a circular walk starting in this pretty village and ending with a pub lunch. Unusually we had not read the pub reviews in advance. What a wonderful surprise! Although we had not booked were were immediately made very welcome and accommodated in the atmospheric dining part of the pub. The very extensive menu including all the favourites alongside many specials made it difficult to choose but we were all very happy with the quality and portions of our varying options . Of particular note were the home made nachos . The pudding choice was also great ,. Huge portions , good prices and home made. The meringue and the banana waffle were the favourites. The fantastic food was surpassed by the wonderful service. Nothing was too much trouble. we were addressed by name and really put at our ease. Furthermore we mentioned we were celebrating a friends birthday and a beautiful home made mini Victoria spinge complete with candle was presented Thank you all sooo much for a really exceptional experience all round Jacqui carol ( birthday girl), David, Rob judy , Ann and Julia
