We booked a table for 5 people on the 20th February at 18.30 we had a 50 minute drive to this restaurant .When we arrived the restaurant was closed due to a gas supply shortage . No notification whatsoever . They had our phone number as my wife informed them that we were coming from quite far away and would be maybe a little late . We arrived at 18.25 to a closed restaurant . Utterly disgusted that they didn't inform us . My wife emailed them and they didn't have to common decency to reply . What a way to run a business.

My teenage daughter discovered this restaurant to try with myself and her twin brother. We opted for the carvery. Each of us had different meats. It's hard to think of the words to describe how it was, so to quote. '10/10'. 'Best carvery I've ever had'. 'Excellent '. A return visit has already been decided, and with the addition of very pleasant staff, it's a must.

This is the 2nd time i have eaten at the Amherst within a week. I had to try out the Sunday carvery. To summarise in a few words it was exceptional. We all went with the steak and ale pie and topped this off with all the veg from tbe carvery. It was the bezt Sunday carvery i have had and it was all piping hot. You must all try it. You wont be disappointed.

Have wanted to try since it re-opened as Amhurst, especially as it’s an independent business, but put off by mixed reviews. Decided safest to try on Thursday with the £8.50 fish & chips as can’t go far wrong with that. Sadly we were wrong. Only one other customer who was already eating, so no pressure on the kitchen. However, chips weren’t cooked and had to sent back. Came back OK - best we could say, though neither of us a fan of hot food served on boards (thought that fad had passed) and why serve with sliced gherkins? Sadly won’t be returning.

We used to bring our children here when it was The Crown Point Inn, many years ago. We decided to try here for a quick lunch with our new Grandson and it was good. 3 of us had the midweek Carvery and 1 had Scampi. All freshly cooked and tasty with the Carvery offering good choice. Overall an enjoyable lunch and decent VFM, so we’ll return

I had the vegan wellington which took ages to make and then was given to another customer once arrived. They cooked another one which wasn't that tasty and certainly wasn't worth the long wait Apparently the meat was dry too. Not overly impressed with the chefs but the floor staff were very helpful and apologetic.

We went for a long muddy Sunday walk and then walked to the Amherst Inn for a beer and a cup of tea. On arrival it was busy but we got a seat in the bar area easily like we wanted to. It was warm and cosy. I must admit I was eying up the roast dinners that were going past! They looked really good! I’ve asked if I can go there for a Sunday roast for my valentines gift! :) The only thing was most the beers on tap had run out. My husband likes to go for different beers but most of them were finished. So after a laugh with the barman we finally found one which wasn’t run out!

Mixed feelings An odd experience. Started badly when they denied I had a booking despite me showing her the confirmation e mail. Eventually after lots of dithering she found it when she moved her ipad covering the booking list. Ordered the carvery, meat ok but beef average quality. Yorkshire was a bit limp and tasteless. The carrot was superb other veg average. Most were hot and well cooked. We were shown the dessert list and told two weren't available. We ordered a creme brulee and asked if we wanted ice cream ir custard with it?!?!?! The creme brulee was also missing its shortbread a waitress was asked and off shr went, never to return! My chocolate dessert was missing the Chantilly apparently chef forgot to tell then they had run out! To be fair the senior waitress did get it for us free but we never resolved the shortcake issue! I can honestly never been offered ice cream or custard for a brulee! Slightly randomly confused venue. One very good waitress otherwise hmm ! Table next to us got a wrong drink too. 24/01/24 Got an e mail from this venue’s staff asking me to sign a petition as staff aren’t apparently being paid by the owners, I cannot explain why, but am concerned if it’s true and the owners GDPR failings holding on to my e mail address unlawfully

I have been to this place a few times. It has the potential to be something really good. I have found some of the staff very friendly and helpful on some occasions and on other occasions a little arrogant and snappy, finding it more interesting on their phones and chatting together. Food again has been great, steaks and fish and chips were excellent, where the carvery looked and tasted a little dry and vegetables a little overcooked. I think it needs a strict manager who understands customers needs, quality of food and to create a better ambience as the place is a little open and bright. Plenty of outdoor seating, be nice to see if they can utilise this in the summer, maybe some small private dining pods, weekend BBQ. As said the place is big and has so much potential to be really really good.

Decided to try the midweek carvery. I was a little bit reluctant at first as I had had 2 poor meals here last year but had recently heard that they had had a complete change of staff. From the minute we walked in the door you could feel the friendly welcoming atmosphere. We arrived with two young children and all the staff went the extra mile to help us with plates etc when carrying from the carvery . Carvery was excellent and the staff we could not fault . Well done Amherst Inn. We went away feeling happy and full.

In a very short time, The Amherst Inn is in my opinion heading towards excellent! I’m a little biased because the Waitstaff have a track record of excellent service at a highly regarded restaurant that I used weekly for nearly 2 years. I would rate them as ‘Prestige’. We were served this evening by Niamh (pronounced Neeve). She was an absolute credit to the Amherst Inn. She paid attention to every detail that would ensure we enjoyed our dining while keeping a subtle but keen eye on the needs of the other diners. Amazing service. If they can keep this level of service building up, I might end up having to have a table in the carpark. Fabulous food, fantastic staff!

The wines we choose were also of good quality & price. Very reasonable prices. The restaurant is spacious with a lovely open fire, or plenty of seating in the bar areas should you wish to eat there. This was plain shameful. First of all, we walk and are met with funny smells, and a cold building. We considered this fine, as we thought it was just an old place, so it'd be normal. A woman finds us a seat, and quickly get our order for our drinks. 25 minutes later, the people that were 1 minute in front of us are finished with their dinner, meanwhile we hadn't even received our drinks. Someone at my table gets up and asks around. Another 5-10 minutes later, our drinks magically appear, with no compensation, no apology. We ask for the bill and quickly leave. This is plain shameful. We have never left a pub before getting our food, but when we do, we are met with a sarcastic, "have a good day", and dirty looks from the employees. Sort it out.

We stopped here today for lunch with friends. Having waited for some time at the bar, the lady behind sent us to the restaurant area to be seated, without our drinks order being taken. Eventually, having waited about fifteen minutes, one of our party returned to the bar to order our drinks where the same person proceeded to write down our request rather than just serving them. After a further ten minutes of waiting, the drinks were eventually brought to our table by the waitress, who seemed to be the only one doing any work around the place. Having perused the menu and made our choices, when it came to ordering, we were informed of the list of food items that weren't available: no fish, fish cakes, chicken and mushroom pies, lamb and mint pies, coleslaw, to name but a few. We then made our choices from the options available to us. The food when it arrived was OK. It was certainly hot, served on hot plates. The burger meals were obviously lacking in coleslaw, which was a shame and no alternative was supplied in its place, i.e. salad garnish. Shame the log fire wasn't lit as this would have added to the atmosphere of the place.

Arrived to be met by a manager who seemed incapable of comprehending her guest list, demanded to know when we had booked as she couldn’t find the reservation and then admitted the booking system wasn’t working - and she didn’t have a pen to tick off our names when she finally found them from the myriad sheets before her. We were shown to our table. About 20 minutes later and after prompting from us a waitress finally arrived. We ordered drinks and our chosen food. We waited. And waited. And waited. 50 minutes later and after chasing up at the bar and with yet another waitress our drinks arrived- by which time we were ‘tucking in’ to our carvery. Meats were ok but vegetables were lukewarm, roast potatoes coated to look crisp but soggy, swede flavourless and their feted cauliflower cheese undercooked and bland. Frankly the new name has done nothing to improve the reputation of the old Crown Point. There has evidently been no effort to improve the tired appearance or indeed the sagging food. The staff are clearly well meaning but poorly led and managed. The food- never again. Avoid this place until they are properly managed, led and producing quality rather than quantity food in tired conditions.

Today me my wife and friends went for a Carvery........... Upon entry we were told the system had been playing up and they'd overbooked but it wasn't particularly busy so they could fit us in at our booked time, I think this was to ease us into what we was about to experience. Our waitress had only been there 2 days and not been trained, rest of the staff stood about moaning so she didn't stand much of a chance. Was told no menu's or starters. The vegetarian option turned out the be curried pie (not what was ordered) Carvery itself was cold and you had to ask if there was more veg and potatoes as we're empty. My friend asked for soap in the gents toilets and was asked if he could refill it for them......... This barely scratches the surface of our experience........... BUT to be fair to the manager she came over to us and said our experience was inexcusable and apologised profusely, then offered us all to come back for a complimentary night

After hearing about The Amherst Inn from KentOnline's secret drinker giving a good review, I thought I'd try it out for myself. Luckily I was off work this Sunday so I booked a table a day or so ahead as I've not had a Sunday roast in some time. The Amherst Inn is a little outside of our area but it was still within a 30min drive which was fine. I've passed this place many times when it was The Crown but admittedly I never gave it much thought. Under new management from an owner of several other pub/restaurants in the area we were pleasantly surprised by the decor, atmosphere, food quality and value for money. Sunday is a busy day so there were lots of staff buzzing around the place and there are 3 separate eating areas as the building is surprising large. Luckily we were seated next to the wood burner so it was lovely and warm. The only thing that irked me was other patrons parking like selfish morons which reduced the capacity of what is a very large car park, obviously this is no fault of the restaurant at all. I'll definitely be going back with friends soon. Many thanks 😊👍

We called in here, first time visit, after a trip to Igtham Mote. We were initially greeted by the Maitre D', who was very personable, friendly and efficient. We hadn't booked, so we were offered a table in the bar area, which was absolutely fine for us. However, on this particular day, a Sunday, there wasn't much ambience. The service was painfully slow and a bit hit and miss, to say the least. Although, the Maitre D' was very attentive, making sure we were aware of timings and reminding the waiting staff of our order. He was excellent. However, in contrast to the service, I have to say the food was very good. I had the burger, which came with coleslaw and fries, my perfect combination. I couldn't fault it, everything was to my liking, and according to my son I'm Mrs Fusspot! My son and his partner had the Carvery, which they were extremely happy with. The vegetarian option was very well received. The plates were enormous and you can fill them as high as you like! Despite the slow service, which may not be the norm, I would definitely recommend The Amherst Inn. The prices were very reasonable too, especially compared with other venues close by. The food was very enjoyable and we'll definitely be making return visits!

It was a bit chilly in there but the food was fine and the service good. There were not many people in there at lunchtime.

We were quickly and warmly greeted on arrival and shown to our table. The waiting staff were quick to attend us for drinks and explain the menu. All 8 of us had the carvery. All really enjoyed our meals. Meats and vegetables were excellent, i...

Nice find. The food was lovely although it took over an hour to be served due to a large party in another room but the staff were incredibly helpful and generous. The ribs were really lovely . We would go back

Had an amazing Sunday Carvery lunch here a few weeks ago. Food was well cooked with plenty of options available on the carvery, including four choices of meats and a wide selection of vegetables too. Had the Chocolate Mousse for desert, which was to die...

A friend and I decided to go for a carvery here last weekend and it did not disappoint. This is a high quality carvery, at a very reasonable price. The staff are friendly, the matradee was very attentive & if they offer you the dessert menu, SAY YES. The sticky toffee pudding & ice-cream is amazing. I'm really looking forward to coming back here!

Great atmosphere, building, ambience, real ale and chef's hand-cut ships. Garden, parking, service and staff all good. Value very poor. Left still hungry after expensive lunch. The Cheesecake is a joke - tiny, no base, just some biscuit crumbs sprinkled on the top of some...

We visited early last Friday evening, very warm welcome when we arrived. Love how they've decorated the place - even though it's a large building it still felt cosy and intimate. Thoroughly enjoyable food, we both had steaks which were cooked very well. Very good...

Five of us went for dinner and cocktails, especially as they advertise that they serve these. On arrival and for the entire evening there was only us there plus another table for three people - on a Friday evening in Sevenoaks! There was no atmosphere...

Excellent food and service .The staff were so kind and helpful to me as I’m only mobile with the aid of sticks at the moment. Even offering me cushions ! I was so pleased how easy they made it for me . Definately Will return

Really good! Carvery excellent, just no veg available and deserts were a bit minging. Would go back just for the carvery, or pick something else for desert, I feel it was partially our fault

PLEASE - DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! We were expected. I had booked a week in advance. Upon arrival we were informed that half of the main meals on the menu were unavailable. The staff then couldn't decide to tell us if this was because the grill wasn't working or that it was because the fan wasn't working! We got both versions! With such a limited choice, three of us had Beer Battered Cod. The pub was almost empty and the wait for our food was 50 minutes. To say the meal was disappointing would be an understatement; the fish batter resembled boot leather and was completely inedible. And.............the only other party of people eating, also complained about their food! Speaks volumes!

I've been in and ate 3 or 4 times now and it's the only Costa I go to were the staff don't seem very happy or friendly. They don't go that extra mile which is disappointing. They never seem to have the full range and they gave me a dirty spoon last time I went in which was Monday 25th of November. Drinks and food very nice, service not so great.

I have visited the Friars many times over the years, very rarely do I use the tea room as years ago I had an awful experience with the staff being rude to us there. After what must be 7 years I thought we would try again. Sadly the staff were still rude and disinterested. The food is basic and good, the environment is of course wonderful so it’s such a shame that the staff can’t make that little bit of effort to make someone’s day. This is a place with many visitors after all. Of a team of 4 that I could see, 3 were looking in their phones and the lady that served us could just about be bothered to talk to us. I’ll give it a go in another 7 years maybe 👎🏼

We were greeted at the bar and directed to our private dining room. The bar staff were cheerful, helpful and the prices reasonable. Our servers were polite and attentive with the food delivered quickly. The meals were a piping hot, the meat tender and the seasonable veg. attractive, tasty and plentiful. The empty plates were cleared quickly and the courses served promptly. All in all dining at the Wealden Hall was a very good experience and I’d have no hesitation in recommending the venue.

Poor. One of worse pubs I've visited in a while. London Pride was nearest they got to an Ipa, and it was absolutely awful, like it was off. Won't go back.
