Myself and a group of friends decided to do a circular walk starting in this pretty village and ending with a pub lunch. Unusually we had not read the pub reviews in advance. What a wonderful surprise! Although we had not booked were were immediately made very welcome and accommodated in the atmospheric dining part of the pub. The very extensive menu including all the favourites alongside many specials made it difficult to choose but we were all very happy with the quality and portions of our varying options . Of particular note were the home made nachos . The pudding choice was also great ,. Huge portions , good prices and home made. The meringue and the banana waffle were the favourites. The fantastic food was surpassed by the wonderful service. Nothing was too much trouble. we were addressed by name and really put at our ease. Furthermore we mentioned we were celebrating a friends birthday and a beautiful home made mini Victoria spinge complete with candle was presented Thank you all sooo much for a really exceptional experience all round Jacqui carol ( birthday girl), David, Rob judy , Ann and Julia

My husband and I had our wedding day at the Plough in August. The staff, venue, food and atmosphere were just faultless and we couldn’t have been happier! The pub has a lovely garden for children and our dog even joined us for our wedding day!! If you are considering getting married and the Plough we honestly cannot recommend it enough!!

Found this place by chance and so glad we did. A bit off the beaten track but worth it. Had a 3 course set menu meal. Was excellent and good value, very well presented. Attentive service. Craft ale on tap from a local brewer was great. Looking from the outside we thought it was closed but once inside it was really warm and welcoming with a good atmosphere. Woul deffinately reccomend.

This pub, in a rural setting just outside Tonbridge, has a lot going for it - spacious beamed interior, beautiful gardens, huge car park and friendly efficient service. The menu has a good variety of dishes. I had a cod burger which was delicious: light crispy batter with succulent fish in a brioche bun simply dressed with mayo and lettuce. It sounds simple but was so good I'd like to go back and eat it again tomorrow! As well as the normal menu, on weekdays you can also choose from two or three course set menus, which seemed good value. The two beers on tap were from Tonbridge brewery and Kent brewery and were both in excellent condition. If you go, best to first check out their website, as they are sometimes closed for weddings.

Wow, wow, wow!!! This place is amazing. We went for dinner on a wet Tuesday evening but were greeted warmly by the host, nothing was too much trouble for her. Despite so few customers it was warm and comfortable with a roaring log fire. The service is the best we have experienced in the area and the food was simply the best we have had in a long, long time and such good value at two courses from their set menu for £15. Even the music being played in the bar was great. If you want a great evening out in a friendly, local pub with absolutely fantastic food the you have to visit The Plough, at Hildenborough ~ you won't regret it!

We had an afternoon family buffet for 25 people in the restaurant area. Everything was lovely - plenty of parking (maybe not the case if there was a wedding in the Barn); pleasant surroundings; friendly staff (they were very tolerant as we made access to their kitchen difficult at times); and a tasty, well presented finger buffet.

We booked the Barn at the Plough at short notice for a celebration of my mother’s life after she died suddenly in the summer. The staff could not have been more accommodating, sympathetic kind and professional. Both in the lead up and on the day everyone went out of their way to help, supplying specific drinks and amazing food. It may not seem like the most important part of a funeral type occasion, but oh my goodness it all made the world of difference and created the most amazing send off, and all the people who attended commented on how perfect it was. My mother specified ‘a boozy get together with family and friends’ and the team at the Plough created the perfect setting for it, and really did us proud.

Me and my wife were getting married in Cyprus and wanted to do a reception in the UK a week after for guests unable to get to Cyprus. We had various issues with other establishments but as soon as we met with the team at the Plough and Barn at Leigh, we knew we were in good hands. They were quick to answer any questions we had, as well as helping guide us through the running order of the reception. On the day everything was super organised, with no issues at all in getting things setup. The venue itself was stunning, both the barn and the outside garden which thankfully we had good weather for. Everyone who attended had a great time and commented on how lovely the venue was. Before the evening of the wedding reception, me and my wife have visited a handful of times for drinks and lunch and have always had a great time. You can't find a nicer, more relaxing venue in Kent.

We had booked for 4 people at 13:00. We were eventually greeted and told to take a table anywhere in the garden and someone would be with us shortly, a waitress eventually turned up after about 10 minutes to take our order and give us menus. Drinks arrived relatively quickly. It then took us about half an hour to catch someone’s attention to order our food which eventually arrived about 1.5 hours later. We did keep asking but we’re told there were delays in the kitchen. At no point did anyone apologise for our wait and every time we wanted a drink we had to get up to catch someone’s attention. Service was APPALLING. At no point did anyone check that the food was ok or indeed whether we wanted more drinks and at 15:30 we decided to leave. We could have left without paying as all the staff were stood in the bar area chatting but we’re honest and asked for the bill, having had to go up to the bar. We were told it was table service only and someone would be over (‘table service’ we thought that would have been nice)! Eventually we managed to pay. Have to say the food was generally very good and we have been here many times before but never experienced such bad service. Appreciate this was day 3 after lockdown and we could understand some delays but this sort of lack of service without explanation is a disappointment especially as you could only pre book and therefore The Plough knew how many covers to expect!

**Please read if you are considering visiting on Bank Holiday Monday**We booked a table for 1pm on the last-but-one "Eat Out to Help Out" day as we suspected it would be busy. We joined a queue at the door upon arrival, including both people like us who had booked and several groups who hadn't.We were at our table after about 20 minutes. Our order was taken reasonably promptly but the food (two sandwiches and a burger) didn't arrive until just after 2.30pm - an hour and a half after our booking time. Totally unacceptable. We were seated near the door so heard that many people were arriving without bookings. Eventually, after about an hour, the member of staff greeting people advised that no more food orders were being taken from those without bookings. It was a classic example of greed over providing great customer service - letting too many people in without the capacity to serve them in a reasonable time. We heard countless people complaining about the wait, including a "regular" who was very disgruntled when told the manageress was too busy to speak to her.The food, when it did arrive, was average. The bread for the sandwiches wasn't even buttered to the edges and until we added a dollop of mayonnaise the filling was dry. Burger was OK.There was no offer of a complimentary drink or coffee as compensation for the unacceptable time taken to serve us.The horrendous wait meant we then had no time to visit the local park as intended before a prior appointment elsewhere. We won't be rushing back.

We went for lunch here, a party of 3 as part of the eat out to help out scheme. We were told on arrival that there was a 30 minute wait for food - understandable as the eat out to help out scheme is proving very popular. We unfortunately waited 1 hour 20 minutes for a sandwich, a childrens lunch box and a burger and chips. Others who ordered after us were served their food first and we had to chase up our meals to get them. We then had to queue for another 10 minutes for knives and forks as these weren't brought out with our food and the bar server was busy talking to a man about his dog while a queue of people waited. So the hot food was of course cold by the time it was eaten. The children's lunchbox was very small for the cost. Packet of crisps, a very small ham roll and two strawberries. Had we not been using the eat out to help out discount we would have complained. The table next to us had waited nearly two hours for their food.A pity that the pub doesn't insist on bookings only or be honest about how long food is going to take.

The venue is absolutely delightful however, but the food could have been better. The afternoon tea only came with one cup of PG tips tea and the cakes tasted stale and were cold from coming out of the fridge. The only saving grace were the sandwiches and scone, except I would have expected better jam than a runny, sugary mess for the price point. My partner had the Cajun Chicken, that was a bit stingy on the mozzarella and the brioche bun was practically burnt rather than toasted. The serving staff were polite and accommodating and the COVID-security was excellent. A few changes to elements of their food would take the restaurant to the next level!

We went here for a large group Christmas Dinner. The carpark is a good size and the pub/restaurant is warm and welcoming. The surroundings are lovely, with beams and a really traditional feel to the place. Excellent staff too, smiling and pleasant. My only quibble, and this is probably because it was mass catering for a large group, was the quality of the meal we had. It was rather disappointing as there was no stuffing, the sprouts were hard and the gravy was thin and sparse. The plates, too, were not even warm, so the meal quickly cooled. The quantity was good,, just a shame about the quality. My husband and I are going to visit again for a Sunday lunch to see if the normal menu gives a quality to match the surroundings. Hope to increase the star rating!!

We were lucky to be guests at my cousins wedding reception here in August. Firstly what a beautiful venue you have. The afternoon didn’t quite run smoothly (due to “bus gate”) but despite the fact this probably completely through the kitchen out, you’d never have known by the quality of the food we were served. The staff were all exceptionally friendly (from the moment we dropped some equipment off on the morning of the wedding), throughout the day, to when we went back to collect the following day. Note to any potential brides and grooms, if using a London Routemaster bus to transport your guests from church to the pub, make sure the driver knows the route they’re meant to follow to avoid the low bridge....just because you’ve told the bus company doesn’t mean the driver will go the right way!!

We got married at The Plough on Friday 2nd August and our day was magical, fun and relaxing right from the start. The staff were super friendly and accommodating; they went above and beyond to ensure that our day ran smoothly and they managed to pull that off beautifully for us. Any last minute changes that were made they handled with absolute professionalism and such care towards our wishes! Not only did they make the day itself amazing, in the run up to our Wedding during our preparations they were also fabulous! In the words of our lovely friends & family who joined with us to celebrate our special day, it was 'The best wedding they had ever been to. We cannot thank Della, Hazel and the team enough, everything was faultless we will definitely be back in the very near future to take a trip down memory lane! :-) xxxx

Attended a wedding 2 August. Beautiful Venue and garden but poor customer service. Staff were not attentive at all, and ended up delaying the order of the day by 2 hours and tbis pushed back the evening do. Then the grumpy barman was telling evening guests that they couldn't go into the function room! If this is a serious wedding venue business I would recommend event management training and more waiting staff to be on duty!!!

Visited with a ramblers group very recently. They reserved a table out of doors for us - which was perfect. The beer was excellent - good choice of real ales. Lunch was tasty and a reasonable price. Service very brisk and courteous. Recommended.

We were there for dinner on a very nice summer evening. The ambience was pleasant, well furnished, nice architecture, although extended many times over the centuries, obviously not consistently, but pleasantly. Friendly bar service good English pub menu, we ordered drinks and food and ate out in the extensive garden, where there was a playground for children and the food was good.

We got married at the Plough on 31st May 2019 and our day could not have been more perfect. The venue is stunning, the food first class and the service could not be bettered. We had not visited prior to booking our wedding in January but it has already become one of our favourite places to eat and drink! Four legged friends welcome :) Visit for lunch or dinner and you will want to come back too! And if you are planning a special occasion/party, look no further!!

Lovely day and lovely country pub. Lunch menu was excellent. We had the Moules, Haddock and chips, Plough Burger and Ciabatta steak sandwich (£10) plus two sides (£3 ea). Most items under £20. All cooked beautifully. Great service. Friendly staff.

This historic venue has changed hands since I first visited there in the late 80s. Back then, as a pub, the food and real ale was excellent. In addition, I also attended the then proprietors daughter's wedding in The Barn.

The Plough Inn was a fantastic choice for our November wedding, we cannot thank all of the staff who made it such an incredible day. It was absolutely everything we could have hoped for, and the staff were just so great. We asked them to do some unusual decoration, and get involved in our treasure hunt on the day, and it all went down such a treat. Thank you so much again, for such a wonderful day, we appreciate all of your efforts and hard work to make it memorable.

We were spoilt since we were attended to by the proprietress who gave a lot of advice. especially since my friend is coeliac. The food was really good. The wine matched the food. It was a jubilant occasion of the 50th anniversary of my friendship.

This place is a hidden gem. The food is absolutely stunning I had the lamb and my partner had roast pork both meals were lovely but the lamb with trimmings was out of this world. The staff were extremely helpful and kind. Also the chocolate brownie and spotted dick was lovely.

My partner and I wanted a Sunday Roast, we tried to reserve a table at several local places but everywhere was full. We managed to reserve a table at The Plough. When we got there we were surprised to find the place half empty. I'll get back to this at the end.

We had our wedding day here on 28th September and it was simply magical. The day could not have been more perfect. The venue is absolutely stunning, both the beautiful gardens and the amazing barn with all the wooden beams, fairy lights and fresh hops making for our ideal and dream setting. The food was exceptional, we opted for the braised beef and received numerous compliments from our guests as to how delicious and fantastic the food throughout the day was. The day was so relaxing and all of our guests had a truly wonderful time. Thank you to all the staff: Della, Hazel and their team for all their efforts into ensuring that everything ran smoothly and was carefully arranged. All the staff went out of their way to be extremely helpful, accommodating and really friendly. We can't thank you all enough, it truly was the best day of our lives. Mark promises to be back to the pub for a meal with his biker friends soon. Love from Mr & Mrs Lewis-Rendle.

The Plough was chosen as a central meeting point for the family. On the whole the food was good. One of our party ordered Cottage pie which had shredded meat in it instead of mince. The did kindly refund the cost of the meal.

I have visited the Friars many times over the years, very rarely do I use the tea room as years ago I had an awful experience with the staff being rude to us there. After what must be 7 years I thought we would try again. Sadly the staff were still rude and disinterested. The food is basic and good, the environment is of course wonderful so it’s such a shame that the staff can’t make that little bit of effort to make someone’s day. This is a place with many visitors after all. Of a team of 4 that I could see, 3 were looking in their phones and the lady that served us could just about be bothered to talk to us. I’ll give it a go in another 7 years maybe 👎🏼

I've been in and ate 3 or 4 times now and it's the only Costa I go to were the staff don't seem very happy or friendly. They don't go that extra mile which is disappointing. They never seem to have the full range and they gave me a dirty spoon last time I went in which was Monday 25th of November. Drinks and food very nice, service not so great.
