Went onto Google to look for a brewers fayre. Castle lake came up so we went. Bearing in mind you have all the big signs on the road welcoming all. We went to go in only to find members of public are not so welcome as access to restaurant is for premier Inn customers only. Maybe you should take the sign of the road and replace it with Premier Inn sign only. Very disappointing.

First time I've been to Castle Lake, and not disappointed one bit. Easy to get a table, very attentive staff (one offered to pull the blind down by a nearby window) lovely approach to customer service. I was made aware of what wasn't on offer, but this still lead to a good variety of choices. Food came out quickly, well presented and tasty. It's a Brewers fayre, what some people look at as a second rate Beefeater, however I've had worse steaks, with mine being the very accurate medium rare, which is usually always overdone. Not here! Portion size good. Only thing was they didn't have my favourite Malbec. This restaurant is clearly used by locals, with several generations of families coming to eat on a Monday evening. Do yourself a favour and visit here. Great food lovely staff, plenty of parking!

A bizarre experience awaits you, should you be brave enough to visit this restaurant for breakfast. As you walk in, a small troll will accost you, and begin badgering you with questions, all quite confusing , especially before you've had your morning coffee. After this initiation, and after paying before you even sit down, you can serve yourself your own coffee from a machine. Then take your seat. Eventually an older, taller troll will arrive and ask you "what'cha want" ?, which is troll English for "Good morning, may I take your order" This question is very likely to cause confusion, because you haven't seen a menu. At this point, the key to solving this room, and advancing is to ask, "Good morning, would you tell me what's available?" The next step has several options, but, the cheat is to say "breakfast". Now your troll will start tapping on the clipboard it's holding while you answer a series of yes or no questions which goes something like this: Eggs, Bacon, Hash brown Black pudding Sausage Beans Mushrooms Tomato Apparently it makes no difference which you answer to any of the questions. The troll will be satisfied. Within 2 minutes a plate with edibles will arrive, and you have successfully completed this level. Congratulations. , your server will approach

Absolutely appalling experience. Witnessed staff refusing to serve people who were not staying in the Premier inn. Rude ,rough vile attitude . Could not be really bothered with customers . Staff have all been made redundant and are unfortunately taking their frustration out of staff. Won't be staying at another Premier inn or brewers fayre as they are affiliated. Its not the cleanest or nicest food and heard there is a lovely pub 5 mins walk away

Attempted to visit the restaurant today (28 May) at midday for lunch but found it was randomly closed. We were one of many couples/groups trying to get in. It was made worse as we'd travelled quite a distance so also needed the facilities. Popped into the Premier Inn attached and all the receptionist said was it wasn't opening till 5.30 today, there were no facilities available to use at Premier Inn and we would just have to relieve ourselves behind a bush in the grounds!

Typical pub menu for food. Quality was good but their drinks selection was pretty poor as the lacked a lot of their mixers to make most of their listed cocktails. We visited here on the 13th January, it’s not the first time we have been here, usually some problems but nothing quite like what we experienced on this occasion!! Upon arrival my mother in law asked if the carvery was on to which a very rude waitress snapped back “ no of course it isn’t, it’s only on Sundays! “ She then taken aback said “oh okay, we booked a table here overlooking the soft play area “ then was barked at again by this waitress who replied “ absolutely not, I have a table of 24 that needs this table! “ Once we had a table, myself, my mother in law & my sister all went up to the bar to order as we each had our orders written down, we ran through this with the lovely girl at the bar and she asked if it was separate and we said no all together, same bill, same table. She read everything back to us perfectly without a hitch. We paid. Our starters arrived a while later but only two sharing platters for the adults, none of our children’s starters arrived, we had to find someone to ask where their food was, we’d already finished our starters when they finally arrived but they also brought out two of the mains for the adults. I said excuse me to which I was ignored, as the lady walked off I kept calling but she didn’t turn around. We had to find someone again. They came over and said we’d ordered separately. We showed them the receipt with all orders on it ( not separate) she got the manager who came over with the most hostile attitude, when we tried to explain she cut my mother in law off and said “you didn’t order together, I’ve seen the tickets” then when we tried to speak again she said “ but you all have your food now yes” Now I manage in the hospitality business & I wouldn’t dream of speaking to any of my customers this way. If the tickets have somehow come out separately then it’s your job to go over and check with the table if it’s all together, why would we all sit together to be served our meals separately? As for the patronising, not even a sorry this has happened condescending tone this manager arrived at the table with is unacceptable. How dare you talk to your customers in that manner, not to mention raising your voice with our children present! Upon being told about the rude waitress the manager responded “ the one with the black patterned top, short hair” if you know your staff are being rude, I guess your instinct is to follow suit or maybe that’s where you lead by example! And yes when all our food arrived there were items missing that we had to find a member of staff again. We weren’t the only table being mistreated that day. Most of the staff were gathered in the kitchen pulling faces every time another table sent something back. Strive for better standards! Not only for your company but for yourselves!

Went there on Thursday 28th. Arrived before the rest of our group so grabbed a drink at the bar. There was only one lady working and she was serving someone else. After waiting, what I can only assume was the manager came out shouting that she will serve us because no one else will, even though the other lady was busy. The managers customer service was missing on this day. She was so rude to everyone we overheard her interacting with. When the rest of our party arrived, we checked in to be seated and we're seen by a young man. We had requested to be sat in the play area so the kids could be occupied. He took us to the door and said just find a table in there. Turns out no free tables for 6 people so we had to go and find him to tell him that. We were sat in the restaurant and were looking at the menus. Because we had arrived early, we had overheard that the festive menu wasn't running and that they had no chicken wings. No one physically bothered to tell us that, it's only because we overheard. Turns out they only tell you when you go up to order. Went up and placed orders (same table but two orders) starters arrived an hour later, but they were all at the same time however the kids mains didn't come out with them. 35 mins after that half the table got their mains. Waited, and tried to chase with the male waiter who had seated us, who said he would check then went to clean cutlery instead. Asked the manager who went to check and then promptly ignored as after that. Eventually mains came out and were cold. We were annoyed at this point as it had taken nearly two hours total to get to this point. Service was absolutely shocking, no one in the kids play area monitoring how many were in there so it was absolutely rammed. We stayed in the play area for over an hour after we finished eating and as we left our dirty plates were still on the table. Absolutely shambles of a restaurant

Went for meal in the week before Xmas and had food from festive menu. Starters and desserts were OK (although vegan dessert from festive menu as unavailable) but mains were very poor. Veg was all hard/cold and generally poor and the stuffing was just weird - soggy middle in a crispy shell that tasted strange. Service was absolutely awful - time between courses was so long and had to give staff (what few there seemed to be) a nudge both times and had to help ourselves to cutlery from nearby tables each time!! Poor just poor.

After waiting for 25 minutes for our order (and saw 2 other tables who ordered after us receive theirs during a not busy period) asked a waitress to chase our order, she did not return with any information so had to go to the counter to be informed "it was just being plated". When it arrived the 2 side salads ordered were missing, the waitress said she would go and get them - they did not arrive and we finished our meal without them - we did receive a refund for this after complaining at the end. The food itself was ok but nothing special (a limited menu) and the customer service is sadly lacking.

Absolutely awful experience. Booked breakfast with Santa on a Sunday morning for 10.45am. Was told there was no Santa via a call on Saturday evening. Found out after getting food from breakfast buffet that the food was being taken away in a minute to prep for lunch. Only found this out because of a member of staff discussing/arguing with another customer. Spoke to the same member of staff to clarify the situation, and to ask why we hadn't been told and why they take a booking for 10.45am? Was basically told that she wouldn't have taken the booking and that chef needed to get ready for carvery at lunch. Tge member of staff was rude and didn't apologise or take any accountability. I was basically told to 'get in there quick'. Breakfast was duly taken away at 11.05, even as my sister in law was there looking to get some seconds. I find this whole experience unacceptable. We did not have the same breakfast experience (20 mins) as anyone who booked earlier in the morning. All that needs to happen is, don't take bookings so late, or don't take the food away so early or at the very least make sure the customer is aware when they book...or when they arrive or something. Oh, and don't argue with a customer when they are seeking an apology or explanation. Terrible experience and service, will never be returning.

Is every brewers fayre bad? When we got there checked in with the lady on the desk, our table wasn’t quite ready so stood us in the corner.. that’s fine.. she went off to book someone in for Xmas and do all that…. She then seats a few walk ins who came in after us. I then catch her year and she asks. Are you waiting for something? I said yes our table. The ball then drops that she forgot about it took my BIL that long to get a drink at the bar… It took 30 mins to order food One lady on bar, then hear staff whisper it’s over an hours wait on food. Staff shouting no clean glasses left…. We just left. Now I’m not usually a negative person and I appreciate it’s the run up to Xmas which is why they get two stars… but every single brewers fayre we go in, is terrible. We had dinner at Castle Lake yesterday evening. We were travelling back from Disneyland and stopped at the Premier Inn to break up our journey. We were with our two children aged 8 and 6. Our children were tired and hungry from travelling. Castle Lake was just perfect and was the best Brewers Fayre we've been to. The staff were wonderful. They care wholeheartedly about their guests / customers and are committed to ensuring it's a safe, warm and friendly atmosphere. There was a person at the bar who was Leary. The management did not tolerate this. The manager Vicky made sure the restaurant was safe for her staff but also our children. She made it really clear in a calm way that their behaviour wouldn't be accepted. There was also another manager in and she wasn't happy with the behaviour. I wanted to say a big thank you to Vicky and the other manager (sadly I didn't catch her name). There was a moment where as parents we felt a bit scared but both of them handled the situation impeccably and the person left. Both managers clearly prioritised the safety of our children and their staff (and the rest of thei customers) and we have nothing but the highest of respect for both of them. Vicky came over to check we were ok, she apologised and explained what had happened. She spent time talking to our children about Disneyland and super heroes! Our kids think that she's amazing. The food was beautiful. I'm sure the chips and onion rings are homemade, the food was of a really high quality. Lovely restaurant, family friendly, very high standards and ran by an excellent leadership team. Highly recommend Castle Lake.

Guest of some dear friends, on a Saturday morning we decide to come to this place to have a healthy, rich and abundant English-style breakfast. This venue is located right next to the Premier Inn Maidstone and shares parking and other services with it. Since I have stayed in other Premier Inns in Kent, as soon as I entered the Castle Lake Brewers Fayre, I noticed the similarity in the furnishing style, where wood strictly stands out, both in the furnishings and in the wall coverings. The venue is very large, with a significant seating capacity. Furthermore, it also has an area reserved for the little ones with a pretty good play ground. The breakfast buffet was well stocked, from sweet to savory. We opted for savory, so on to scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, black pudding, beans, mushrooms, tomatoes etc!!!

I visited with my family yesterday (6th Oct) and we had a great time. We were welcomed straight away and managed to get a seat in the popular play area. Our food was lovely and arrived very quickly, thank you. The man at the bar taking orders seemed to be on his own but managed to acknowledge everyone waiting well, something you don't see much anymore! The girl working in the play area was very friendly and really did a good job of trying to make sure all children were being safe when in my opinion it should have been the parents responsibility. Give her a pay rise! My only note would be there did seem to be a lot of children playing in the space? Seemed like too many to be safe to me but I am sure these things are tracked. Thank you for a nice visit. We will return soon.

We then ordered desserts, no one came to see how the main meals were and no one cleared the plates. When the desserts turned up, I was passed all the food to hold while the member of staff cleared the table. Really nice food, no frills but if you just want a decent meal at a reasonable price, you can't go wrong.

My wife and I had a fantastic dining experience at Brewers Fayre at Castle Lake. Kerry, our server, was incredibly attentive and polite, which set the tone for the evening. We weren't expecting much, given our previous experiences at other Brewers Fayres, but this time, the meal exceeded our expectations. My steak was cooked to perfection and easily the best we'd had at a Brewers Fayre. We were so impressed that we had to share our positive feedback with the manager, Nicola, who was equally amazing and engaged in a delightful 15-minute conversation with us. Kerry and Nicola truly exemplify outstanding service and are a credit to their company. We can't wait to return!

Me and my wife went there for a meal on Monday 28th August only on person on the bar taking food orders and having to do the drinks also which left a big cue. When our food order came to the table the food was under par. My steak was well done even though I wanted it medium rare the peas we almost grey where they were over cooked. It's a shame as this brewers fare was one of my favourites to go too. But unfortunately we have decided now never to go back. On a brighter note our stay in the Premier inn was fortless had an amazing sleep.

Usually have a very pleasant experience in Brewers Fayre restaurants, so thought Castle Lake would be no different. We were told that the only two things they didn’t have were the chicken dinner and the fish pie. My sister then ordered and paid for a vegan smothered chicken. After quite a few minutes a staff member returned from the kitchen to say they didn’t have any vegan smothered chicken and my sister needs to pick something else. Being veggie my sister felt on the spot as there were limited options for her so asked if she could go up to the bar to change her order in a couple of minutes. She did this and had to queue behind people which obviously meant she took a lot longer to put her new choice in. After about 5 minutes a lady stormed over to our table demanding the new choice as they ‘hadn’t received it’? We explained she’s still trying to tell the staff but is in a queue. My sister then told us the same lady was very rude and raised her voice at her when asking what she wanted (this caused a lot of distress)(I will say this same lady ended up being a lot more friendly later on but seems rediculous that the frustration was directed at us when they made the mistake) Secondly, we all found our food to be tasteless, the peas tasted completely horrible and inedible, and the pies that supposedly have won awards were completely bland and contained loads of fatty bits. All in all this was a completely disappointing and dissatisfying experience and we wouldn’t recommend trying.

Vile and disgusting food. A rude staff member shouted at my girlfriends sister just because they didn’t have the competence to take her order. Avoid!

Great children's soft play area. Food as expected from chain restaurant. Toilets in play area out of order. No soap in other toilets.

Very much a DIY operation nowadays. Order at counter. Only service is food being brought. Insisted on well done steak for health reasons - it wasn't and steak very chewy anyway. Chips soggy and tasteless. Sundae for dessert - ice cream generally already melted. 'Barman' friendly and helpful. The trouble with these places next to Premier Inns is that they're often the only place to eat nearby so there's no incentive to do a good job; this is our 3rd Brewers in about 5 weeks and have had problems at all of them. Ate nothing to recommend, sadly.

We visited yesterday and was in complete shock. It didn’t start great when we walked in to be asked if we booked, which we did to be told they don’t think they have a table big enough for our party. They would sit us on a smaller table and add extra chairs- we refused this and magically there was about 5 tables that would sit us comfortably that were empty. The hygiene was extremely poor- the drinks machine didn’t look like it’s been cleaned in a long time and the toilets over flowing from being blocked. The toilets being blocked was notified to a member of staff behind the bar, who was polite and said she would get it sorted. She reported it to her manager, who shouted across the restaurant back “what do you want me to do, there’s other toilets tell them it’s not that hard and if they don’t like it well’ her mannerism was disgusting. Refusing to let a family in as they hadn’t booked, the family then booked online as there was space to still be refused as they simply couldn’t be bothered. Which was quite clearly stated when the manager was speaking to colleagues very loudly. Our food took nearly an hour to come out with very few others in the restaurant so I dread to think how long it would take if you was busy. It is safe to say I will not be returning as it wasn’t a welcoming experience.

Enjoyable meal, although if going for a burger, be aware that the portion of chips is small and the coleslaw even smaller! Update: on a later visit, service was quite slow and the food not as hot as it could have been.

Sadly spoilt a family dinner after finding a piece of blue plastic in my mouth from my roast potatoes from the carvery , I was only offered back £11.50p for the carvery or another dinner to which I refused as I was feeling very nauseous , so upsetting as it dampened the atmosphere and my mum and partner sat picking through their food in fear of another foreign object!!!

Asked for smothered chicken but no cheese. Came with just fries. Not happy as coleslaw went to someone else in party and just on a plate. No salad until I asked for it and no garlic bread. Not impressed. Service was good though. Desert was great. Might try there again if I have too.

Not a good experience at all. Arrived at 12 for soft play (as this was the time on the website for it to be open but when I arrived, I was told it had been open since 9am when it was a lot quieter)) - extremely busy and very very loud (I have two children so I’m aware of noise) no one controlling their children and lots of older children unaware of toddlers and small children and no staff managing this. Not a big soft play, limited areas for children of different ages, much prefer Larkfield leisure centre soft play. Also was expecting summer activities as advertised on their website but no information on this when I arrived. The food was very slow to be brought out, having to ask on several occasions - not great quality. Will not be returning unfortunately

The food has got more expensive but smaller portions and is no where near as filling. I used to feel it was value for money but not so much anymore. The food was nice but very small portions. The soft play is always a bonus for those with young kids but it does shut at 7pm and there was no colouring or anything else to occupy them when closed so bring a back up option with u.

When this first started I went with friends and it was great. Went again on Friday it was a real disappointment. Too much batter, very little fish and both over cooked. Such a shame - sadly won’t be risking it again.

Good; lovely fresh food, cosy decor, easy parking, plenty of menu choices. Bad; INCREDIBLY slow service. Arrived at 6.15 for our pre booked table, told it wasn't ready despite the restaurant appearing fairly quiet, we were then seated about twenty minutes later. It was about another 15 minutes before we got to order drinks and about another 20 before they arrived. One of our party ordered a water once our drinks arrived and it was again another lengthy wait. Our jug of water never turned up! We ordered food which again took ages to arrive. It arrived about 8pm which considering we arrived at 6.15pm was very late. When we finished our meal the waitress asked if we were finished, we replied we were but then she went off and never came back to clear our plates. It took ages to receive the bill and nobody came over to take payment so we ended up going up to the bar to pay. Overall some positives but the amount of waiting time let the side down considerably. Not sure we would rebook.

Right. Here we go! First time trying this place. It is not awful but it is not good either if you know what I mean. Bang average kebab shop. No seasoning on the chips. Sauce was minimal and was charged for it. Bread was soft and in grilled. You eat the picture. I think a small adjustment may put this place on the list.

I have visited the Friars many times over the years, very rarely do I use the tea room as years ago I had an awful experience with the staff being rude to us there. After what must be 7 years I thought we would try again. Sadly the staff were still rude and disinterested. The food is basic and good, the environment is of course wonderful so it’s such a shame that the staff can’t make that little bit of effort to make someone’s day. This is a place with many visitors after all. Of a team of 4 that I could see, 3 were looking in their phones and the lady that served us could just about be bothered to talk to us. I’ll give it a go in another 7 years maybe 👎🏼
