Basil in Tonbridge and Malling

Basil always serve a good bacon sandwich and black coffee, but they have fallen into the usual cafe trap. they used to deliver both at the same time, but alas no longer. coffee is now cold by the time the sandwich arrives . shame

Delicious lunch today. I had fabulous gluten free toast with avocado and halloumi and my friend had one of the pancake stacks. Lovely friendly staff too.

Always enjoy Basil. Staff are great here . The milkshake impressed my daughter as did the chocolate covered flapjack, an old favourite.

Heidi, Aidan and Lucia are absolute BABES! Best iced caramel latte (with oat milk) I’ve ever had in my entire existence on this troubled place we call planet earth. When life gives you lemons, have a coffee at Basil. ❤️💕

I visited Basil in Tonbridge with my husband as a new customer. The coffee was lovely and the lime and coconut cake was absolutely delicious! My husband ordered a Tuna Melt and it was delivered very quickly and didn't last long! 😂 Thank you to all the staff and lovely manager at Basil. We will definitely be visiting again soon!

The coffee and hot choc sprinkled with choc literally covered the saucers! With many establishments presenting with immaculate coffee-art Basil could up its game! The staff are so lovely here and the cakes utterly outstanding.

A late visit just before closing, cakes look delicious especially the Easter slice! Plenty of seats, friendly server and tasty, hot cappuccino. I always love visiting Basil in Tonbridge.

We popped in for a coffee and everything looked so lovely we decided to treat ourselves to brunch. Really attentive and friendly service which was efficient and quick. The cafe has a lovely atmosphere; buzzy and busy. It is clean and beautifully set out…fabulous lightbulbs!! There were lots of veggie options for my daughter and we thoroughly enjoyed the bacon bap and pancakes that went with our coffee. Would definitely recommend this Independant cafe/restaurant and hope to return for lunch next time. Thank you very much, keep doing what you are doing Basil!!

Visited today as I was in the area, having my car serviced. I chose not to go into the ‘chains’ - Costa, Nero, etc for brunch, so had a choice between Finch House & Basil. I chose Basil as it seemed less busy - there’s clearly a reason why…….. I ordered the bacon, avocado, tomato, on spelt toast and a coffee which came to over £14, I didn’t mind this, until the plate arrived. 2 rashers of over cooked bacon, the end of the loaf toasted for too long, so too crispy & dry to eat, two slices of tomato. The butter wasn’t spread on the burnt back end of toast just a knob plonked on (I moved things around to spread it myself), then reassembled plate). The half avocado was generous though and a good portion of rocket. I left the majority of the food, I did hear the older woman staff member ask others how they’d found their meals, she probably didn’t ask me, as it was clear based on my leftovers that I hadn’t enjoyed the meal. I also wasn’t a fan of the atmosphere, some customers welcomed and engaged with, others transacted with, but generally ignored. Not for me and I wouldn’t revisit or recommend!

Tasty coffee, wonderful quiche & salad. Service is excellent here. The ambience is rustic and comfortable. The prices are fair. Carrot cake tasty if a little too moist.

Great service, very helpful. Delicious frittata and butternut squash salad! The milkshake was generous and tasty coffee. Total cost £19 so not cheap! Still one of our favourite haunts in a central location.

I think 3 small rashers of bacon and half an avocado on a single slice of toast costs 11 quid! The salads look large though and the service was good. Just don't buy breakfast foods and you'll be fine

The flapjack is soooo substantial! It really hits the spot! Basil is centrally located on the high street, the staff are friendly and efficient. Loyalty cards are available. Always enjoy our visits here.

Quick lunch stop. Sat inside (there was plenty of outside seating). Comfortable. We has 2x panini's (tuna & cheese; tomato & mozzarella), water & coffee - good value. Quick, attentive & friendly service.

Charming young Staff, really tasty food. Great Coleslaw, and Bacon Roll. Quiche ,good ,and salad dressing pleasant . All in all, a most rewarding visit. Would return, if in Tonbridge.

Love this cafe, staff are always welcoming and cheerful. The coffee is consistently good and the cakes are amazing. Their gluten free chocolate brownies melt in the mouth, I eat gluten but these are divine.

Homecooked food that is maybe little expensive but really enjoyable.I recommend the malteser cake. This is only one cake amongst a few tha tare really nice.

A fave spot for cake! Friendly , efficient service. Nice atmosphere and rustic ambience. The prices are quite high but the cakes look fantastic. My daughter is addicted to the choc flapjack!

I try to support independent businesses and smaller chains, but Basil charges extra for soya milk and offers no vegan desserts (at least, there weren't any when I last visited), and very few savoury vegan options. I'd rather not support a major chain like Starbucks, but they don't charge extra for soya milk and have a handful of savoury and sweet options for vegans. Hopefully Basil will realise there's a demand and offer more soon!

I knew Basil was a quiche and salad place before I went. I like quiche. It turns out that Basil do not. Instead they serve a beige, soggy tasteless mess on a plate. There is a choice of only two salads, neither suitable for vegans.The tea was ok. I didn't have any cake.My understanding is that nothing is made on the premises and that it is shipped in from a distribution centre, so not very fresh.

Would not return. Prices of food here expensive and not worth it. Paninis very doughy and need more cooking, served with a few pieces of poorly dressed lettuce. Price for these at around £6 is okaymWorst part was quiche and salad for £13. Owner justified it with the explanation they are homemade. £3.75 for some okay coleslaw is madness, not sure how they justify the profit margin on this.

Ordered bacon pancakes and was told "not sure if we have bacon". Good start. They then found the bacon... see pictures. Was reheated in the microwave on top of cold pancakes.Quiche was tasty and great texture, side salad was a compost heap with olive oil. Paper found in food, was told by the server "not our fault as you ate part of the meal". Avoid. £30 for two sets of pancakes and quiche.

Great coffee, great cakes and the pancakes with bacon and maple syrup are to die for. Beautiful freshly made salads made with fresh ingredients and always look so tempting. Great staff.

First and last visit to Basil today. Staff didn't seem bothered whether they served me or not and although the tea was Fairtrade, it was nothing special. Can't really understand some of the better reviews for this place and I wont be returning any time soon. Sorry.

Really enjoyed the fresh salads though at 7.50 for a small plate of 2, they should be very good. The brownie was very disappointing and tasted as though it had been around for quite a few days. It was supposed to be gooey but it was crusty and discoloured. Very disappointing when you want to treat yourself.

We've been to Basil a few times and always enjoyed it. Generally have the frittata or quiche with some of their yummy salads. This time ordered the same, but the portion size was tiny! It was noticeably smaller than the last time we went. Price was the same. It does seem very expensive to be charged over £26 for 2 pieces of quiche, one small portion of salad each and 2 drinks. Like to support local cafes/restaurants, but I don't think that we will go again. It's a shame as the quality is always good. Case of shrinkflation!

Best ever cakes and coffee and a delight every time we visit. Strongly recommend. The banoffee pie is just gorgeous.

If you are looking for a freshly made, interesting and healthy lunch at a reasonable price in a small but central location this is perfect.

I was looking for a place to get a decent coffee and a piece of artisan cake and stumbled across Basil as I am new to the area. Fantastic looking food, lovely ambience and attentive friendly staff who took the time to welcome and say goodbye to the customers.

My partner want a coffee from there, but instead we stopped for lunch. Friendly staff, and food was out very quickly

We had good sausage baps for a breakfast visit accompanied by really nice cappuccino. One thing though - although the bread was delicious we felt it had too much going on to have sausage on it and detracted from the delicious sausage

popped in for a hot drink and a bite to eat. Had a mocha which was lovely and I had carrot cake which was very nice and my wife had the lemon slice which she loved.

We nipped in for a drink and lunch, having ordered food and drinks, I was given a number and told to wait at the end counter for drinks. Having stood there for nearly 10 minutes the drinks were served. Why the drinks could not be served at the table is a mystery.

Love this cafe but the supervisor on shift today tutted and huffed and puffed when I asked to pay separately for items. Might not bother coming here again with her attitude.

Great if you like interesting salads and quiches. Their cake selection is amazing - I love their chocolate flapjack but I've never had a bad cake experience here. The only negative is that it's quite expensive.

Popped in for morning coffee at the weekend. Key lime pie was divine, flat whites were strong but served scalding hot.

Had a sausage bap for breakfast - just one and a half sausages for £4.95! Where did the other half go?! Who does that! I felt cheated so complained and was told that was the correct quantity but they would feedback to management. Just look at the attached photo, would you be happy with that?

On waiting for my train, I popped into this cafe, as I wanted to try a less known compnay, rather than the Cafe Nero next door. The breakfast and tea were fine, however the staff seemed extremely uninterested, and this affected the whole service as every service step was blunt and unwelcoming. I understand that it is a busy Saturday morning, but surely this is the day to impress, welcome and invite customers back..

This is a great little independent cafe on Tonbridge high street. There is a good selection of home made cakes, pastries and fresh salads. It is pricey, but very good quality overall. The coffee is fresh and the cafe environment is pleasant enough. Worth a visit over the other local competition!

Gave it a go for the second time, it always looks delicious. First time round I had a tuna paninni, was very average.

It is not very often you walk out a restaurant without the guilt of gorging, but luckily at Basil you do. The food is lovely and fresh and oh so super tasty, you will not be disappointed. I have taken a star off, purely because the service was not great, but if going by food alone, I would have given it 5 stars!

It is quite expensive, but it is good. You can also choose a nice quiet area. It has free Wifi too. You can get plenty of water. Staff tend to keep to themselves and rarely interact but talk amongst themselves a lot. I don't know where the manager/owner is. It is one of the best places in Tonbridge. I like the noticeboard, but it is rarely updated. I like the community magazines in the front.

Have been here twice for lunch in two weeks. Probably the best place in Tonbridge to get lunch, cake and coffee. Coffee is really good, cakes are good and well-portioned. Ham sandwich is good, fresh thick bread and lots of filing.

Popped in for a quick bite. Was thrilled to see marmite toast on offer. Was served lashings of Marmite in a side dish ... absolute heaven. Friendly staff, good cup of tea. Little bit pricey.

Several decent options on the high street, we opted for this because the food looked delicious and was very well presented. We had a sweet chilli chicken panini which was tasty and a slice of spinach, pine nut and courgette quiche with home made cole slaw. My partner said that this was divine. The location is clean and tidy and the food looks freshly made. The staff were friendly and had a sense of humour, refusing me politely on several occasions when I requested a free cake sample! By the way, the cakes looked delicious and if it had been a little later in the day, I would definitely have partaken! The raspberry and pistachio triple layered sponge was calling out to me! Well worth a visit!

Have been in Basils a few times, and previously given a reasonable review. Today, as ever the food was ok, somewhat pricey and the tables are sticky. Sadly the visit was ruined by the sudden stink of tobacco smoke, in amazement we checked the customer toilets to see if was coming from there. Nope, it was coming via the adjacent kitchen, not just a whiff, a real pong of long forgotten smokey premises. Yuk.

He visitado Albahaca en un par de ocasiones ya que me encanta la quiche, que amablemente calentar para usted. En la última ocasión el quiché estaba fría de piedra en el medio y tenía que ser enviado de vuelta.

Three weeks ago my wife and I happened to be able to meet up mid day in Tonbridge and so we had a coffee and a granola bar to tide us over till supper later. My wife arrived first so ordered for us both (planned tactic so that my black coffee would cool a bit so that she did not have to wait for me to finish due to it being too hot.

Me encontré con un amigo para comer hoy. Todo muy bien presentado como de costumbre - ambos elegimos una porción de butternut squash, kale y queso de cabra frittata con 2 ensaladas al lado y un café para cada uno. Me quedé bastante sorprendido por la factura para venir a 29 libras. Sin embargo, la comida era muy sabrosa y cada poco de comer! En el lado positivo no había ninguna señal de hosco comportamiento personal como señaló 2 críticos así que espero aviso fue tomado. Continuar comer aquí, aunque un poco caro, la comida es muy buena. Albahaca estaba lleno así que hoy parece un montón de gente que esté de acuerdo

Recientemente visité este lugar con mi marido. Estuvimos mirando la tarta rodajas para comer en la que eran muy caros para probar y hacer nuestras mentes. Nos encontramos con un miembro femenino del personal que me chistaba( cuando no podían decidir. Su actitud era completamente equivocada. Luego decidimos sólo tienen un café. No iré a este lugar de nuevo y Le aconsejaremos a otros a que hagan lo mismo.

Pasó por Basil para una taza de café y algo para comer, pero porque mi esposa no había decidido qué comer lo suficientemente rápido para la chica detrás del mostrador, le dieron una mirada de sus ojos y eran distain planteadas. En ese punto, decidí simplemente a tomar un café, así que perdido ingresos, todo debido a un pobre servicio al cliente! No volveremos!

Es estupendo tener Albahaca en Tonbridge. La cafetería tiene un ambiente encantador. Una gran variedad de ensaladas y algunos pasteles totalmente increíble. Personalmente estoy decepcionado que no hay gluten opciones de sándwiches. No siempre quieres una ensalada - lo cual es bastante caro. Sin Gluten tartas gratis disponible, pero la oferta fue dairy gratis y muy seco. Por favor alguien que ofrecen algo más que un brownie de chocolate! Bien merece una visita, pero no muy estimulante si tienes que se ajusten a una dieta sin gluten.

Lovely fresh smoothes, could have a little more choice. Everything thing is freshly made, with greta cakes and food. Love the rustic oak decore, typical tea house style with a very good and efficient service. All of this does come with a price tag of course, but worth it.

We had a slice of filo tart, a slice of quiche and 2 coffees and cost over £16th. Side salad was lettuce with no dressing. The full tart was warmed up and grease poured out of it. Very poor value and not all that tasty.

Fui con mi padre y madre paso para comer y tenía la butternut, pimiento rojo, queso feta tarta de espinacas. Me preguntaron si quería se calentó y me alegré de no era solo calentada en el microondas, pero climatizada así la pastelería alojamos fresco. Yo también tenía un batido de chocolate, que era de buen tamaño y muy chocolately. Fue un sabroso almuerzo y aunque no pedimos nada más, me quedé impresionado con la variedad de ensaladas, tartas y pasteles en pantalla. No es barato, pero no es demasiado caro y todo parece casero. Definitivamente volveré de nuevo y algo más

Mi favorito para almuerzo y café. En vez de sólo pan y pasteles como la mayoría de las cafeterías que, Albahaca tenemos una selección de verduras ensaladas y quiches y en la mañana que frittatas por eso se han convertido en mi primera opción cuando las reuniones de amigos.

Mi pareja y yo pensamos que podría probar algo diferente para nuestro brunch de sábado por la mañana y me sugirió ir a albahaca y ojalá nunca había abierto la boca! Basilio es nada especial y muy caro. Yo tenía un rollo de salchichas y un café con hielo frappe de caramelo y mi compañero tenía un vainilla latte y un jamón y queso gratinados. Mi helado frappe apenas era fría y mis socios de café estaba aguada y no el sabor de vainilla! Tenían una tabla delante del mostrador diciendo que una selección de paninis y mi pareja ordenados a la que él quería y luego me dijeron que desde el enfriador, que estaba bien, que él entregó a la persona detrás del mostrador y ella se tomó de él. Nos preguntamos dónde estábamos sentados y cuando nos dijo que no sabía ya que habíamos venido y pedimos directamente me sentí nos hicieron elegir enseguida incluso antes de buscar! Cuando la comida llegó él habían dado la cosa completamente equivocados y la envió de vuelta. Una señora se acercó y dijo que uno les dio habían sido etiquetadas como mal el panini! Mi compañero es un hombre inteligente y hubiera conocido no para recoger un panini de atún jamón en lugar de una! Me sentí el personal era engreída y un poco desagradable. Cada vez que había pasado por nuestra mesa, me parece que sólo daba sus narices en nosotros. Nadie preguntó cómo era la comida y acabo de sucio. No hace falta decir que no volveremos y le pegan a Starbucks o finch house como el personal son mucho amable, los productos son mucho más amables y luego nos se sentirá cómodo!
