Amazing authentic Malaysian restaurant located within a food court/ bar building in Epsom city centre. Tried laksa and beef rendang today - both very authentic and tasty! Reasonable prices. Would definitely come back!

I wasn't even aware this small cafe existed outside of the Epsom annual book fair, which we visit every year and which is also held in the methodist church. I had always assumed it opened for special events only, until one of the helpers at the book fair told me it was open all week - though not, sadly, at weekends. My friend and I met here for lunch and enjoyed hot drinks and generously-filled jacket potatoes with a decent-sized side salad. The cost was surprisingly low, with plenty of change from a tenner each. Other savoury options are available: paninis, toasties, sandwiches, etc. We were too full, otherwise we would no doubt have succumbed to the cakes, made by someone local especially for the cafe, I was told. There were some tempting ones on offer but we had to leave those for another day. A friendly, cheery little community cafe, complete with children's play area (and lots of events and groups happening within the church every day of the week), this is a lovely respite from the bustle and noise of the nearby shopping centre. Why not give the ubiquitous chain coffee shops a miss and try this place instead?

I recently visited Muffin Break through the Too Good to Go app, hoping to try something new. As I’ve never been drawn to their sweets, I thought the discounted price made it worth a try. Unfortunately, my experience was far from pleasant. When I arrived, the server made an unsolicited comment, asking if I had been running, which I found particularly offensive. It’s one thing to comment on someone’s appearance, but I struggle with mobility due to chronic health issues. I understand he didn’t know that, but it felt like a joke about my appearance and my condition—implying I had rushed to get their cakes, when in reality, even short walks are challenging for me. It left me feeling disrespected. On top of that, the attitude while serving felt dismissive, like I was just there for a cheap deal. The bag contained four cakes, which felt thrown together with little care. I had hoped for more variety since sandwiches were also advertised. I ended up with cakes that I didn’t particularly enjoy—they were overly sweet for my taste, and frankly, I wouldn’t go back for them, even at a discount. My daughter tried some, but we both agreed it wasn’t worth it. I wouldn’t recommend it based on my visit.
