Excellent value for money. I had the new chicken caeser flatbread which was delicious. It is clean and bright and more peaceful than the place next door. Drink arrived promptly swiftly followed by our food.
I was recommended The White Hart by a friend who praised its traditional, home-cooked food and the warm, inviting atmosphere of a classic country pub. Finding such a gem these days is rare, so I was delighted to step inside and discover that it was exactly as described.
For my meal, I chose the Lamb Liver and Bacon with Mash, a dish that instantly transported me back to my late grandmother’s kitchen. It was beautifully prepared, rich in flavour, and full of comforting nostalgia—a true taste of home.
The charm of The White Hart extends beyond its food; the cosy interior exudes character, and the pub’s garden looks like the perfect spot to relax when the weather is warm and inviting. I will certainly be returning, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a traditional pub experience with fantastic food.
Not bad although I’ve had better, but there toilet was out of action,so there was only one to share for ladies and gents and had to wait ages, but coffee was ok. Found the place not that clean though.
Food was not good . It was all dried out . Looks likes they used a microwave to warm things up . Was not worth the money. . 5 stars on the door I don't think so.
So, colleague and I went as was closest to hotel and initial reviews seemed mixed but overall 4 star.
Place is bit odd. Normally an Indian Restaurant is tight for space, but this was large area and lots of tables around the edge and what seemed like 4 round tables in what should be a dancefloor. Colleague had to take a pic instantly as seemed so odd.
So, we ordered usual poppadum's and chutneys. Poppadums were not warm so didn't seem fresh. No oil on them like they were new. Chutneys? So, one mint raita that was not looking good, onions mix tasted bit chemical and not good, mango chutney was extremely thin and didn't taste of much and the final dip was dark red with the consistency of water. No clue what that was, even after tasting it. I didn't even finish one poppadum (which is rare).
Ordered for main a chilli chicken massala (4 chillies heat rating and their vindaloo is a 6 chilli). We also shared a boiled rice and 2 peshwari naans.
Boiled rice was acceptable. My main was, apart from the chicken, nothing as described. A) chilli element didn't exist, the mango chutney was hotter. B) chicken was long strips and over cooked. C) tomatoes and sauce in general tasted like it came from a can, tasted very artificial and slightly chemical. Was more like a bad tomato salsa from a cost price supermarket.
Naan (2 served together on one plate) was only thing that saved it a bit.
Also, place is unlicenced which is not too obvious from the website.
If you want even a vaguely semi-decent curry for a price of a good curry, avoid here. This was still £48 for 2 and only two cokes and some tap water. No starters and 2 poppadums each (mostly not eaten).
Waiter was nice but there was only him out front. Food is no reflection on him, unless he was also chef, but I cannot verify this, though it was suggested.

Do not order poached eggs. Firstly they forgot to serve me my eggs on my smashed avocado but they arrived in a bowl. They were most definitely not poached eggs but hard boiled eggs. When I went to ask for some fresh poached eggs they said that is how they have to cook them!! Awful. My poor daughter was so apologetic as she was treating me for Mothers Day!!
Sadly they can’t get many “walk-ins” here, as the appearance from the outside isn’t at all welcoming. It looks like some sort of bunker on a council estate. (see photo). They may as well put up a sign saying “Do Not Enter!” Luckily we did; to find inside, a well-appointed dining area (though admittedly with no outside views). Perhaps that was the reason why there was only one other couple eating.
Such a shame, as the food deserves to be widely appreciated. It’s that good. There is a no-frills laminated menu of the basic kind, which reminded me of my past life of regular visits to Brick Lane in London, or indeed India itself. Thankfully, the authenticity extended to the food as well.
We ordered off the quite short Nepalese Specialities section. Both main dishes (we had only pappadoms for starters) were superb. Unlike anything we’ve had in Devon & Cornwall. A real home-cooking feel; it seemed the spices and herbs etc. were cooked and prepared in the kitchen, not merely covered with bought-in sweet sauces and powders as one often encounters. Even the two sides (chick pea and mushroom bhajis) were so different and full of a variety of textures and tastes. They were almost meals on their own!
My wife had the Gurkhali Chicken and I had the Momo Lamb. Both were really plentiful and quite superb. The chicken was fried in a mild rolled Flour ; the lamb was 10 mini dumplings served with a hot dipping sauce. Fantastic! Unlike anything I’ve eaten in a long time and I can’t wait to try again. The Peas Pulao were a lovely accompaniment too.
Washed down with some lovely Kathmandu Lagers (a little warm) and diet cokes, the bill, with service was great value at £64. (Without starters, we still needed “doggie bags” to take home with us.)
All I can say is, ignore the frontage; try something other than the usual suspects (listed under “British Traditional Dishes” and enjoy genuine homemade food that is something different and extremely tasty!
In addtion both the greeter and the shy, but highly efficient waitress only added to a wonderfully calm and enjoyable meal. We'll certainly be returning.
I love coming to this café, the staff are always amazing and smiley and their memory is on point! The food is always fresh and tastes amazing! The coffee is always refreshing and the cakes are to die for! I always without a doubt have a very pleasant experience whenever I visit! Which is why I return! I recommend the Valerie club sandwich and the chocolate gateau! So yummy!
Went with my family for coffee and frappes and cake for my disabled mother. We arrived at 16.20. 1 of children my wanted a chocolate frappes they said that did not have it so we ordered 2 tropical mango frappes 2 latte’s and 2 pieces of carrot cake and a strawberry vanilla cake. I was told that they closed at 17,00 so could not have. Our coffees in a cup and cakes on a plate only in paper bag i feel they were to-eager to get out rather than Too serve busy to get out at 17.00. Do I was extremely upset as my disabled mother could not have her coffee and cakes what a disgrace considering it was only 16.25
We ordered a Deliveroo for lunch whilst at work.
We got some sort of meal deal - it was salt and pepper chicken, rice, mini spring rolls, prawn crackers and a soft drink, all x2.
The food arrived lukewarm but that's more to do with the fact that we are 8 miles from the restaurant, not a fault of Chopstix so it does not affect my scoring (I get fed up of reading people down score places because of the delivery service).
Chicken was nice, spring rolls were good, rice pleasant if a little dry.
To be fair I would probably give it 3.5 out of 5, but I can't give half points on here and it's not worthy of a 4.0, so 3.0 it is!
Worth a try but we were not mad about having it again in a hurry.
