This is what I call a ‘proper’ pub. Quality beers, lagers and wine. No food, no large numbers of kids going mad. An absolute oasis of relaxation along with professional bar staff that make you feel welcomed and valued as a customer
Simply the best around
Went for a walk in Cuckfield with my wife who has terminal cancer and as she gets tired easily I took her into the garden at the Rose and Crown in Cuckfield. I went into the side bar that was completely empty apart from the bar person and ordered soft drinks for us both and a packet of crisps for my wife. The bar is taller than most other bars and I stumbled and spilled the drinks. I apologise
Booked with Gina in advance and pre-ordered our main meals, as there were 13 of us meeting for a casual cousins lunch. Everyone was very happy with their meal choices and all were served together; lovely and hot; generous portion sizes; really delicious and amazing service. Puddings were great too - loads of GF options which was particularly impressive. Thank you so much!
Wow what a gem of a pub. Went this evening and was served by Scarlett. She was very knowledgeable of the menu and explained everything very well to my partner who is a coeliac. Both the food and service was incredible and I would highly recommend to everyone. Thank you for a wonderful date night we can’t wait to come back.

Absolutely fabulous pub! The manager was lovely and couldnt do enough to help, and the food was delicious! They even made some garlic mayo especially for me and I have to say, it was the best I have ever had. Would highly recommend!
Unbelievable just how bad this was. One waiter trying very hard to do it all, but it took almost an hour to even get our starters. The starter was the much advertised and praised (oh yeah?) smoked haddock souffle. Which I suspect was a pre cooked topping of whisked egg, plonked on top on some smoked haddock with a spinach base, so not a souffle at all. Surrounded by a far too highly spiced sauce that did not complement the 'souffle'. Awful. Then another long wait for the mains. I had fish and chips my husband the hake. Both mediocre. As these are the new owners after new owners who never lived up to the previous owners, I would hope things will improve. They need to stop trying to produce 'fine-dining' that they cannot achieve and concentrate on well cooked pub food. I'll give it a year before we return and hope for the best. The pub has been fitted out nicely, shame no local photos and pictures have still not been reinstated. The waiter was excellent, but even with the reduced number of diners but him running the bar too, more staff are needed,
