The best restaurants in South Lakeland North West

We had several people in for a dinner. The menu was great, and the meat and fish portions excellent and plenty. Many of us had chips, chunky and tasty. The drinks menu had good variety where we chose appetizers and wine to pair with the meal. The service was a bit on the slow side, most tables were full though. This was the second time we went there and would return on our next trip.

Highly recommended...A beautiful meal. Onion bhaji to start. Succulent and crispy. Delicious. I had king Prawn bhuna.my wife had chicken tikka rogan josh. We asked for both to be 'madras hot' they were both very spicy and superbly delicious. Plus 2 pilau rice, a bombay potatoes and a peshawar naan... A bottle of wine, less than £16. The restaurant was clean and the service first rate. Altogether a lovely experience. The bill was £68.45.. Inc wine. Excellent value.

Great rambling comfy quiet old place a short hike from Ambleside village and Windermere ferries.

Delicious pub grub. Had Yorkshire pudding envy when the next table got served GIANT sized puddings with their meat course.

An absolutely perfect place to rest and re-energise, with wonderful hospitality from Leon. Our food portions were plentiful and nourishing and drinks were refreshing and a fair price. Accommodation was just what we needed; all the essentials needed to recuperate. Very dog friendly and welcoming.

Very disappointed, expensive food and drink and you have to serve yourself, even down to getting your own cutlery. Bar staff don’t seem busy enough to justify the lack of table service. Food was bland and very expensive, Thai red curry was tasteless and the sportsman platter tasted like it was reheated food, came out very fast. We used to love this pub but something has changed recently and we won’t be back. *updated* I am not too “grand and important” to not get my own cutlery , and have been to many lovely casual pubs in the Lakes, but if I’m paying £60+ I want a decent meal and won’t be spending it on the rubbish food and drink that was served in your pub thanks. Not a chance that food was fresh being brought out 5 mins after ordering and the empty tables spoke volumes. Maybe spend more time improving your food and service and less time insulting honest reviewers and you may have a chance of not going under. I for one will make sure I tell everyone not to bother wasting their money here.

I wasn’t expecting much from an Indian restaurant in the heart of the Lakes, but was very pleasantly surprised. We were there on a Sunday night and they weren’t very busy. The decor is a bit tired inside but don’t let that put you off. The food was piping hot, freshly cooked and tasty. It’s cash only and take your own booze. I would definitely go again next time we’re staying in Coniston.

Absolutely dreadful. From entering the premises it could do with a total revamp. There is paint flaking around the windows and the whole place was a mess. Needs a good bottoming. If I could give it zero I would.

Ordered takeaway delivery was extremely disappointed in butter chicken about 5 strips of chicken & half a tub full of just sauce. Though rest of order was good.

very slow took 2 hours to have a starter and main they were more botherd about takeaways will not bo going again

Good Chinese food from the Jumbo , always tastes good. Lose a stars due to cash only, no cards taken here!

Tried to do a survey for these guys but the survey doesn’t work online! However always lovely and Ange is an icon, always friendly and very quick service!

Don’t seem to stick to opening times or opening days. maybe time to update opening times, absolute joke!
