Very tired and in need of complete renovation and it shouldnt have been advertised as a four star hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful working under poor conditions. Breakfast choice poor unless you like eggs and the vegetarian full English was dry and obviously been kept under a heat lamp. Definitely not 4 star and I understand the day after we left the hotel was closed for renovation.

Very comfortable old-fashioned hotel, but it could do with a good upgrade and redec internally. The staff were helpful and very pleasant. Food was very good, but serious thoughts need to be considered regarding the menu, not enough traditional choices, such as "Pie of the week", it should be changed to "Pie of the Day". We stayed for a week, and one gets tired of same pie every day for a week. Will definitely consider returning.

We visited here for dinner 24/09/24 and it was shockingly poor. Staff asking us for our order several times when we’d already ordered. Then, the food arrived and it wins the award for Least Value for Money Meal… ever. Ham, egg and chips were three measly pieces of ham, most of which was fat, a cold fried egg and reheated chips. The bill was almost £50 and we left most of our meals. When attempting to explain the issue, the waitress serving us couldn’t grasp the issue due to her broken English. Complained to the company who advised they will use our experience to train staff more!

From the menu ordered the tuna bun which was a bun containing tuna plus 5 other salad ingredients. It arrived with tuna and lettuce. When asked was it OK I pointed out the missing ingredients. The report back from the trainee assistant kitchen hand who made the sandwich was that the other ingredients were blended in with the tuna which was of course fob off. The fat chips were also undercooked and hard. You will see when you look at the menu that prices here are high so be aware that food standards are low.

We were extremely disappointed with this restaurant and meal. I had fish and chips - tiny portion of fish and far too salty chips. My husband had a chicken and mushroom "pie" - pie ???. He's never had a pie like that before!! Beer wasn't very nice either. Tired of being " ripped off" like this 😠!!

Went on spur of the moment as caught in the rain. Very average quality food charging too much for what it is. Medium rare steak came well done. All orders placed through the very slow bar despite serving staff having time on their hands.

The menu looked good and prices similar to other pubs/restaurants. However my tagliatelle with prawns was totally tasteless. Just some tagliatelle with chilli flakes and a few prawns, lacked any flavour except chilli. My husband's rocket salad had far more flavour. I can cook a much tastier meal with a lot more flavour in a few minutes. We we will not return.

We were staying in Grasmere for a family wedding and on arrival took a walk to find somewhere to eat. We stumbled upon the Wordsworth Hotel and decided to eat there. We were greeted warmly by the staff who were very friendly and attentive throughout our meal. We ordered our food and it came out quickly. The food was delicious, especially the chunky chips. We had a couple of drinks with our meal, the cocktail I chose was made very well and was really good. In fact our waiter actually said he was going to try one when off duty as it looked good. If we are in the area again we would definitely eat here.

Great for some drinks and okay on atmosphere. Just don't order the food. Probably the worst pub grub I've ever had (and I've been to some rough places). Greasy, very sad, and certainly didn't recieve what was written on the menu. Only ate it because we had to pay up front and didn't want the ag. Find yourself a new chef guys, if they can't cook the basics then they're bad for business. The food was so bad we went to coop after just to get an ice cream to wash the lingering grease away (certainly wasn't risking a dessert). Not how we were hoping our last night in Grasmere would be!

Perfectly placed in Grasmere, we found a rainy day to visit and whilst some coffee shops were turning us away as we had dogs we found this place and was immediately welcomed by staff, plenty of room to sit and they even sold some luxury dog treats behind the bar (that good I felt tempted 🤔) Prices reasonable and thanks to Kateryna for a high quality level of service 🙏 Highly recommend!

Very pretty village and setting. There is plenty of character and a dose of local history with great hiking routes from the front door. If you're looking for a quiet getaway, the location is great. We went for the suite, the room was spacious and clean with decent facilities. However, it's 3 stars at best. It was mostly let down by the food. We were disappointed with the quality of both breakfast and dinner. The poor quality is unfortunately bound to high prices making the whole experience unpalatable.

This is our second visit to The Wordsworth and we love it. Its clean, inexpensive and full of charm. Rooms differ depending on budget as we've stayed in a very fancy suite and also a dog friendly cosy double however neither disappointed. The hotel is spotless and the food, service and grounds are brilliant for the price. Yesterday we did a 1 night winter break costing £135 in a dog friendly cosy double. The room was value for money, we got full English breakfast and £26 per person off our evening meal all for this great price. Its central to all the walks in Grasmere and we will be returning as sitting in the reception in front of the open fire with a nice drink in the most peaceful of places is simply bliss.

What a gorgeous old hotel. Smack in the centre of Grasmere with a large customer car park. The staff were great on reception and in the restaurant too. Our room was on the ground floor, dog friendly, a good size, and the bed was super comfy. The room was about a gazillion degrees however, far too hot, and as the window didn't open we had a sleepless night. In the room is a kettle and also a coffee machine. Hairdryer, good sized wardrobe. The bathroom had a full sized bath, shower. Shampoo and shower gel provided, and snuggly towels. Breakfast was both a buffet and menu to order from, so plenty to eat. The prices in the bar aren't cheap- £8.50 for a glass of wine, but it's a tourist town, so I guess it's to be expected. There's lots of seating in the residents lounge and gorgeous gardens with outdoor seating too. I'd happily go back again.

As frequent visitors to The Lakes we often pass The Wordsworth, stop and stare, look at the menu board outside, and wonder what it would be like to stay in such a fantastic looking place, so imagine my delight to find that my wife had given me a bed, breakfast and evening meal treat for my birthday which we took advantage of on 31.10.2019 to 01.11.2019I'm pleased to say that the reality did not disappoint and, in fact, our stay was as much, if not more, than we had hoped for. From the first minute of entering the cosy reception, with the open fire burning in the grate, the charming welcome was first class, friendly, and very accommodating as we were a little earlier than the required check-in time but there was no problem with us leaving the car in the car park whilst we had a stroll round the village for an hour or so whilst our room was prepared and to be told we had been given a room upgrade was an added and unexpected but delightful bonusWe returned a little later to be shown to our room (by the same, lovely, receptionist) which was really stylish and beautifully decorated (Room 7 the Wilson Woodrow Suite) with fantastic views of the grounds and hills in the distance and the room was spotless and, having dropped our bags and settled in we made our way to the pool/jacuzzi/sauna all free to use for guests and spent the next hour and a half relaxing, what an extra treat (remember the changing lockers do need a £1 to use though which wasn't mentioned)Our evening meal was booked for 7pm so after some time to change we made our way to The Signature Restaurant (note, smart casual wear is expected, so no jeans or outdoor wear) and, I have to say, the meal here was one of the absolute highlights of the stay. Totally professional service from an efficient, courteous and discreet band of top quality waiters and maitre'd and the food was stunning. This is high end cooking at it's finest with a real touch to detail and flavour. We enjoy eating out and frequent several good quality establishments and this one sits comfortably among those. A superb four course meal (the pigs cheek starter and the braised brisket main course were two highlights for me) was followed by tea and coffee in the relaxed atmosphere of the Drawing Room complete with it's very comfy armchairs and the evening was complete with a drink in the extensive conservatory/bar areaSleeping on a first night in an unfamiliar bed/surroundings is always a tricky one to judge but we had a very quiet night despite the fact that the light was left on the landing which let light in under the door but this is a very minor pointThe following morning followed with a very generous breakfast in the same restaurant area and the team on duty were again, totally efficient and, of course, one cannot beat a full Cumbrian breakfast which truly did set us up for the dayOn this visit I cannot fault The Wordsworth Hotel and Spa one bit. It is elegant and stylish with a tranquility and serenity which is very much at home in The Lake District but which belies the hard work and effort that I know goes on behind the scenes to ensure an establishment such as this succeeds. We had a wonderful stay and cannot praise the staff and owners highly enough and would highly recommend to othersHopefully, we won't have to look longingly from the outside for too much longer before we can return again, thank you for such a lovely experience

In behind these shops were sheep roaming around with all the Odors that accompony animals . The Wadworth inn / hotel had a certain smell to it like or it was molding away from age . Wadsworth himself hung on the wall in the main room over the fireplace in the lobby as you checked in . With this restaurant to the left with french doors with french lace curtains on the windows .I never forgot this place .I had a room in the Attic whose room had a aged wallpaper with a slanted ceilings . I came down stairs in the morning to have a nice old fashioned English breakfast .This restaurant and hotel is very much worth investigating and spending some of your time here . We visited the restaurant for dinner on Saturday night. We didn't have a reservation but the restaurant had several vacant tables so, all good. We asked for a table out of the sun ( quite hot and bright still at that stage and one of us would have faced the sun). After more fuss than necessary a new table was set for us, albeit grudgingly. Our meal began with complimentary canapes which were great. Our meals (we only had mains) consisted of poussin which was tasty but tough and pork belly in which layers of sinew and fat had not been completely cooked out (despite its claim to have been slow cooked). The accompanying black pudding croquette was the star, sadly. Nothing was horrible or deserving of complaint but considering the cost and pretentious staff attitude, it is not recommended.

Dined here over 3 nights in March the food is lovely - I think the sweets were divine if a little large - a lot of delicious flavours for all courses

I chose this restaurant for a breakfast business meeting as after a cruise along the high street this was the busiest buy far . what a mistake that was !!! At £17.50 a head for breakfast you would expect quality and good service which both were at the bottom of the scale . The staff were friendly enough but service was broken by big gaps in the taking of orders and delivery of food which was luke warm and bottom rate.I could here from other guests the complaints and when paying the next guest was given a discount when he said £5 is all it was worth.I do hope this establishment takes steps to rectify as they should !!! very disappointing !!!!!!!!!!!

We enjoyed an excellent meal here. The food is absolutely delicious and the wine we had was really lovely. The service is great and we found the whole experience very enjoyable. We weren’t staying at the hotel so on arrival we were shown to the bar area where we were given a wine list and menu. We then enjoyed some excellent canapés with our first drink whilst looking at the menu. After ordering we were shown to our table and the great service continued. The sharing dessert is particularly enjoyable. Overall a great meal and we will definitely return.

My husband and I visited the signature restaurant for our anniversary meal whilst staying at the Wordsworth hotel. We enjoyed the experience from our pre dinner drinks and canapés to our sharing desert for two. The food was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. Staff were attentive and we had a lovely experience.

Had a 4 course meal whilst staying at hotel. We were given 2 tiny appitizers in the bar which were delicious and then at the table given a small bouillipn from asparagus which was tasty. The starters of with grapefruit and pigs cheeks for my husband were beautifully presented and really tasty. Unusual combinations made for a real change. Main course of sea bream, a special for the night. With cockles was delicious and lots of vegetables under the fish. Husbands trout looked small but was apparently delicious and again served on veg and mash. The rhubarb dessert was one of the best I have ever had and was eaten slowly to enjoy every spoonful! The staff were friendly and the setting is pretty in the evening. Not cheap. Wines start at 19 water always on table. An excellent evenings food.

Drove up to Grasmere from Kendal in winter sunshine for a Friday morning breakfast treat but found little choice in January. Walked into Brew cafe but unimpressed with high prices and literally lukewarm welcome with little or no heat on in January, so quickly left. Wandered instead to the Wordsworth and found roaring log fire, accommodating staff and a delicious breakfast. Nothing too much trouble, fantastic local bacon and sausages, wonderful fried eggs, mushrooms and black pudding - all piping hot. Choice of cereal, pastries, fruit and fruit juice from the buffet and as much tea, coffee and toast as we wanted, in very comfortable surroundings. Not the cheapest at around £17.00 per head, but still considered it great value, particularly when cold and unwelcoming Brew cafe a short walk away would have charged £13 just for a for a big breakfast, and extra for hot drinks. We were looking for a treat and we found one. Well done Wordsworth!

My partner and I stayed at this hotel and decided to book into the restaurant on our first evening. When we checked in, we were told that because we were guests the price of the meal would be £30 a head instead of £40 - which seems like a great deal as we were on holiday and happy to pay good restaurant prices.

We went to this restaurant for a birthday meal out and the food is superb. I think some of the operation needs to get over itself a bit though. When we arrived we were sent to the bar, I assumed because our table wasn't ready, but as it turned out only four of the 25 or so tables were occupied. For some reason we were shown straight into the bar without being asked whether we would like to go to the table and pretty much left to our own devices, feeling a little confused as to what was going on.

We had 2 meals here. An evening meal in the Bistro and afternoon tea. Bistro service was good however the meal was a very average quality and over priced for what it was. The afternoon tea service was terrible, the quality of the sandwiches was average to good but the cakes where poor. There also wasn't much to eat. Far too expensive for what you got. Afternoon tea at other locations are much better in our experience. We wouldn't recommend and we won't return.

Also Geduld bewahren !!! DerUmfang des gutschmeckenden Frühstücks sättigt bis zum Abendessen.

We ordered the 8-course tasting menu with the flight of wines. We had one vegetarian and the other normal. It was very delicious. The service was out of this world, the waiters and waitresses were incredibly attentive and helpful and explained all of the food as it came. The menus were printed off which detailed the different courses and the wines which came with each course. All of the wines were very nice aswell. It was worth the cost and I left feeling very full!

Gorgeous food, the only shame is it's the same menu every day when you stay here at the hotel. Dog room downstairs is right by the exit door to the car park, which is a bit rubbish when your dogs bark at people keep walking by! But overall great, lovely swimming pool & no need to drive as loads of walks close by

Really well cooked and presented food complemented by a good choice of fine wines. Service was spot on. Amuse bouches of artichoke veloute led to a guines fowl and hock pressé followed by perfectly cooked fish ( bass & cod) and lamb done two ways. Dessserts included posset, cheesecake, fruit cocktail with smoothie or chocolate fondant

Enjoyed an inclusive meal, as part of our overnight stay. We could not fault the food or service. All the dishes were presented thoughtfully and served professionally. We were the last in the restaurant at the end of the evening and were not rushed.

Starter was gorgeous, scallops and belly pork, but the main coarse wasn't, pheasant with barley, it doesn't help when you find a bone !, desert was also superb, a selection of different types of chocolates. I was surprised to see there were no real ales at the bar, only one Italian larger, and John Smiths bitter, very strange when you have Hawkshead brewery down the road. A satisfactory meal but not outstanding as expected.

We dined at the Signature restaurant on a Friday night. All tabes had lit candles on and the overall ambience was very pleasant. We started our dining experience with a mushroom mousse amouse bouche served with a bread roll, followed by starters of Guinea Fowl & Hock Pressing and Blackdub Blue Cheese Mousse. Both tasted fantastic and flavours all complimented each other. For our mains we have gone for Roast Pheasant with pearl barley and Seared Monk fish with seasonal beets. We finished the meal off with the sharing platter of desserts for two. The only minor criticism I would have is that the bread rolls served at the beginning of the meal were awfully hard and although this did not spoil our experience, it did feel like it let the place down just a little. Overall it was a great evening spent enjoying some fabulous food and wine.

We ate here on two nights of our three night stay at the Wordsworth Hotel. First night we sampled the Signature menu which was worthy of the two rosette award. Second night we were on Bistro menu but seated in the main restaurant, also good food. There were some front of house service issues which slightly spoiled the overall experience but not worth complaining about.

We ate at this restaurant last week and generally we were a little disappointed. The main issue was that 5 tables seem to arrive at once and we were bottom of the list. It meant we had to wait a long time for food, well over an hour for the starter. It's a shame as when the food came out it was delicious. But when you have had a long day walking, it was a painful wait.

A lovely start to our evening being shown into the bar area with the Christmas tree lit up and lovely canapes served. This was the start of our 4 course menu.We ordered the scallops with pork belly and could not believe it when I saw 2 small scallops on top of the pork belly . The main course Hubby had braised beef with liver and said the liver which was finger size was lovely but was not happy with the 2 dry small cubes of beef on top of mash potatoes that tasted of nothing. My Sea Bass was better albeit a bit salty. We opted for the cheescake and sweet of the day bakewell with ice cream. I watched the man opposite who had the same problem as me. The bakewell was hard and he left his as I did mine. The cheesecake and ice cream was nice. This with 2 glasses of wine cost £110 and not worth the money. Service was with a smile.

We were very hungry but in the mood for something hearty and fast, not a fine dining experience, but it was getting late and options for restaurants were few. I've walked past this restaurant many times but never ventured in, but decided to give it a try and we were so glad we did. The servers were so friendly and we were surprised at how fast the food came (not rushed) and it was nice to have a good glass of wine before and with the meal. The food really did exceed our expectations, it was simply delicious and we ended up having an incredible dessert too. After the meal we popped into the hotel lounge and had a coffee overlooking the garden, and it was a lovely calm evening.

We had a room at the back and it was horrible. There's no getting around it. Small, dark and smelling very strongly of damp. The twin beds were touching. The carpet was very stained. Everything was tired and dated. The bathroom floor so cold it was unpleasant to go in there. Maybe if you get a sea view room it's nice - they looked ok from the outside, but if you are on more of a budget (we still paid £90 per night for the room) I would recommend looking elsewhere. Staff were friendly and breakfast was good but not with £15 a head and that was after a discount.

This was our second visit. We had previously enjoyed our stay and so booked for a special family event. Positives first- Our rooms were fabulous and clean. The doggy shower room a great idea. Staff on arrival lovely, cleaning staff and maintenance staff polite and friendly. Although the furniture in the lounge area was a little tired, there genuinely seemed to be an effort to maintain and improve the hotel and grounds. Negatives- one or two waiting staff had a bit of a toxic attitude. We’ve eaten in top Michelin and other good restaurants around the globe and would not expect this. So much so we chose to eat out at other local restaurants after our first night. We were a party of mixed dietary requirements and found the Vegetarian/vegan choices were very limited especially if staying for a week. My meal was ok but spoiled by atmosphere created by waiter attitude. Not truely vegetarian/vegan. I opted for pancakes one breakfast with compote, no bacon. They were cooked in bacon fat. Waitress, instead of immediately trying to sort it out, lied to my face. Doggy friendly on the face of it. Only allowed in certain rooms, not in main restaurant. Fair enough but Bar restaurant/lounge area not serving meals or seats unavailable because main restaurant users waiting on their restaurant table becoming available (people appeared to be waiting quite a time). Felt a bit Faulty Towers. Would we choose to spend our money there in future?
