On holiday for the week in the area and booked this place based on the reviews and we weren't disappointed. We had roast beef, lamb and cauliflower cheese as a veggie roast. Kids loved the Yorkshire puddings (they do a child's roast). Staff were friendly and welcoming. We sat inside, but there are some tables outside. Dog friendly too. We walked from the village.
2 night stay at the hotel with tasting menu the first night and breakfast both days. Views are incredible and can be seen from the front of the hotel, outside seating area, some of the indoor breakfast tables and some of the hotel rooms.
Our hotel room was a double room (fell view), lovely sunrise view from the large windows, plenty of space and storage, comfy bed.
The full English breakfast was lovely.
Tasting menu had 5x courses plus bread and canapés. Delicious meal and staff very friendly. Lovely lounge area with topped up fire place.
Good location for getting to Windermere and around during the day by a short car journey.
My one pointer would be the heating in the bathroom was stuck on full blast, I appreciate these old places are prone to damp but it did feel a bit wasteful.
Overall lovely stay and will be back
We had cocktails 241 and some other lunch items. It was really busy .
Some other holiday makers were giving Scarlett and another girl hell. Kept on and on and really I think more importantly it's better to resolve the issue. Anyhow Scarlett and the other lady sorted it out and one of their colleagues had been made cry. It's not easy being in hospitality when it's busy ...so please be kind people
We stayed at The White Hart for 2 nights , the food was lovely. Breakfast set us up for the day. Everyone was friendly, the pub was welcoming and cozy. The room was lovely with amazing views. Great value.
Best breakfast in bowness by far , very friendly and always welcoming. Very clean and food always served hot. Faultless give it a try. Would always return thank you Anka and team.
Absolutely terrible, tried to order on line 4 times , wouldn't work ....... phoned 4 times to order food....but would not let you place an order over the phone .....then to be to be told that you have to order on line wouldn't let you do it on line...... Absolutely shocking ........ wow this restaurant must be so rich they don't need your business , staff are very very very rude
Best way I can explain this meal is it was like dish water. Worst chinese ive had. Singapore chow mein was soggy and tasteless. Hoisin sauce tasted like vinegar. Prawn crackers were stale. And when I got home my curry sauce wasnt in there. Terrible.
So this listing is wrong. The resturaunt is the Waterbird and the hotel is now a different listing called the Lakes hotel and Sa.
Ate at the waterbird this weekend and it wasnt a great experience. The maitre d was very rude about wanting us to order because "our kitchen cannot cater for a lot of meals and we have a large booking coming" despite us arriving at the time we was aked to come for.
Both meals were good but not great Pidgeon was tough and the stake wasnt cooked as asked. For £15 starters and £25+ mains you expect the best not average.

Worse Chinese I have ever tasted !!! We ordered Special sweet and sour , egg fried rice , chips , crispy shredded beef and prawn crackers , the sweet and sour had no taste at all ,the crispy shredded beef was too tough to even eat , again no taste , the prawn crackers were rock hard . The chips were over cooked . We don’t normally go to chilli red but fancied a change tonite . Think we will stick with Flookburgh Chinese as that is the best one around here !
Unfortunately we didn’t get to visit. Found out the day before children aren’t welcome.
Called to find out why, couldn’t get an answer. “Owner just made the decision”
Our 8yr old is quiet and well behaved, we order from adults menus always and share. He eats what we eat. Very odd policy
Would recommend that the website be adjusted so that when you click “book a table” on a smart phone it loads up the t’s & c’s before the booking calendar.
We got a place on the deck overlooking the river, which was nice, but it stopped there unfortunately. This was a Tuesday evening, and we ordered pie and lasagne with a side of ‘home made’ coleslaw. The pie was overcooked and dry, the accompanying veg looked very sad. The lasagne was nice but the pasta tasted a bit undercooked. The coleslaw came late and just tasted like something I might have got from Morrisons. Left most of our food, maybe it was an off night, but wouldn’t go back.
