Recommended by a friend..food and service was amazing. I had south Indian garlic and it was very tasty and kingfisher on draught to wash it all down..will definitely visit again when in area

If you have ever been to Mela before you will know the set up downstairs. This should be used for people collecting takeaways or waiting for a table upstairs. I booked about a month before our trip & when we arrived we were told our table would be a few minutes. They then rushed a couple who were sat at the table right outside the kitchen & told us this was our table. The manager seemed bemused that we declined this table & so we left. No customer service was provided or an explanation but feel that our table had been given to a walk in guest. This was really disappointing after having two great meals before. However, we had just as good a meal at another Indian restaurant just up the road. (Shahibs)

Outstanding curry house. Myself and my husband are newly weds and have come for a mini moon in the lakes. Our go to meal is a curry. After researching the curry houses locally we ended up finding this one. So pleased we did because it was hands down, one of the best chicken dansaks I've had. The curry was outstanding. My husband had the lamb madras and the lamb was succulent and fell apart. Both extremely tasty curries. Surprised this only has 4 stars as it definetely deserves 5. Ready the previous reviews about the service, appreciate people have different experiences. The service we received was warm, friendly and they were very attentive. Always made sure we had everything we needed and checked on us throughout. Service also 5 star. If you are a massive curry lover and need a decent curry house, just come here. Absolutely unbelievable. I'm still thinking about it the next day.

We went here for dinner as we’d arrived late and nowhere else was open. Staff were great and we didn’t wait long for anything. Had the mix starters and these were nice. I ordered the butter chicken and the only way to describe it is to say it looked like pink custard. It had a skin on the top so I stirred that in but the sauce was an odd texture. It was also surprisingly very sweet. My husband really enjoyed his tikka masala!

Thankfully arrived early as we didn’t have a reservation. It was a Sunday night and proved to be very popular. Excellent food and service.

We always visit Mela Spice when we are in Bowness and this time didn't disappoint. Brilliant service as always; the staff are so friendly and the food was amazing. We ordered a chicken tikka masala and chicken tikka bhuna masala with mushroom rice and a peshwari naan and it was all delicious. We were so pleased with the food we ended up ordering a takeaway later in the week. The food was piping hot even by the time we had walked back to our campsite and of course, it was lovely. We will be back again ☺️

excellent garlic king prawn curry, very authentic flavour, pilaf rice was cooked to perfection and fab garlic nan, unfortunately the pickles or lack of was very basic, jar like , would definitely eat here again.

Yet again after several visits to this restaurant never fails to disappoint. Friendly staff, beautiful food and reasonably priced We always start with the chutney tray and popadoms, so tasty and a light starter to share. The manager kindly gave us a chutney tray to bring back to our apartment to enjoy following day with nibbles, we even thanked the chef in person on our way out for his beautiful food We would highly recommend this restaurant if you ever fancy having Indian food to either eat in or take away WE WILL BE BACK

Very pleasant staff greeted us and seated us upstairs. Ordered bottle of wine, dopiaza and bhuna, naan bread and rice. Delicious food good value will definitely return.

We phoned on the off chance and booked a table for two. Informal atmosphere with friendly staff who controlled the dining experience with professionalism. We are frequent diners of Indian food for last 40 yrs at various locations around England and Scotland, and rate the food at Mela’s as the best ever. We had onion bhaji, chicken tikka chat, chicken tikka shashlik and chicken tikka with poppadoms and nan. Superb quality food - highly recommend.

Without a doubt, the best Indian food I have ever eaten, and I have travelled extensively, not only in Britain but in many countries around Europe and further.

Amazingly friendly service, with a massive range of delicious curries and other south-asian dishes, each with a clear indication of the heat/spice. Poppadoms served while waiting and food was served promptly. Definitely recommend for a curry out.

Went to take away food for my family and on entering i asked the server that i wanted his suggestions regarding the menu on which he started off really rudely. Saying that everything is good look at the menu Can’t you read. J was appalled yet remained composed and continued to explain that i had read the menu outside already but i was confused about which gravy to order so what would you recommend. He rudely said that you can’t eat what i would recommend i eat spicy. I said we also eat spicy he just said you can buy “dish name” but you cant eat it too hot and rudelg just stepped into some back room mid sentence. I was too anngry to even say anything and as much as i want to go back in again and ask if this behaviour was specific for me because of my hijab, i feel like that would be stooping to his level.
