Eastern Balti Restaurant in South Lakeland

We had the worst dinner at the Eastern Balti, not just the worst Indian food. Everything our group of 4 ordered was dry, overcooked and flavourless. Lamb/meat? and chicken cubes, and chicken tandoori leg kebabs were chewy, sinewy and tasteless, chicken tough and no flavour. Lots of gravy on two of our orders which were not Indian in the least. Manager stated their food was to the taste of Michelin-star chefs who were regular weekly customers, but spectacularly failed to deliver. One to avoid!

Ordered a takeaway, told it would be 30 mins. Went to collect it a had to wait another 25 mins. Not acceptable to wait 55 mins in total. Meal was very nice though but won’t be ordering a take away from there again.

A family owned business wasn't to keen on the way the place looked but the food speaks for itself

We was staying at the cricket club kendal and ordered a takeaway to be delivered, food was lovely delivery prompt but I thought price I paid for a chicken bhuna pilau rice 2 popadom mango chutney onions and garlic nan bread was abit expensive at £24 even though I enjoyed it I won't be buying it again as at home ( I live in wigan ) the same menu costs me £ 10.50 and I get 4 onion barges with that

I was staying in Windermere and searching for a halal indian restaurant nearby, this place is hands down the best one in the area! I have a Indian takeaway myself in the north east, their food is top quality, options are a bit limited however but still enjoyable, only thing I would improve on is change your dish names we ordered a ‘lamb shank’ it was more like a special mossala or special korai, very tasty but wrong name to use for that curry as it sets a different exception

Food quality and taste was poor, no freshness heavily covered in food colours which we hate. Seems chicken was cooked long before and taste was masked with sugar and excess onion curry paste. Kids did not like the aroma or taste. Poor quality left a bad taste. The only food tasted good was the naan bread. Hope this review helps the business to improve food quality, taste etc.

They are a bunch of rude people and they told us that we were lucky enough that they would serve us food (takeouts) while they proceeded to serve a table to another group in front of us. Would not recommend at all

Absolutely disappointed, their service was disrespectful, they were verbally abusive and have no self -respect for customers. I am very very disappointed with there attitude and I felt they were racist as we were an Asian family and they didn’t sit us down whereas later on when a whites family came they were seated and served respectfully .

This is the worst experience I have ever had. First they refused to take my order and told me to get lost, then told me they were only doing takeaways . I placed an order for a takeaway meanwhile I was doing that a group of people got seated down and served! Repulsive behaviour . WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

Whenever we are in Kendal this is our first port of call for dinner. It was first recommended to us by locals and didn't appear in the best Indian restaurants in Kendal section. Our first visit was enough to realise we had truly found a gold nugget. It is a small cosy establishment with about five or six tables so booking is essential which can be easily done online even for weekdays. We have dined there about five times now sampling various starters and mains and have never been let down by the quality and fast service. I have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant. There is a small car park just around the corner (Kendal Museum Car Park) which is coin only, £2 for 2 hours.

The worst experience The portion amount was dreadful Money was not worth it Service provided was an insult as we had to keep asking for things that should've been present on the table. As an experienced curry muncher (pakistani) I have to say this place wasn't up to standard. The food portion was very small and the prices were high. Food was so bland that we couldn't see the difference with the lamb and chicken.

Staying in Kendal. Had a delivery to our holiday let. Arrived promptly, 15 minutes before given time. Lovely food delivered by a friendly driver. One of the best takeaways we've had. Highly recommended.

An enjoyable time with courteous staff!

I recently dined at an Indian restaurant, and unfortunately, my experience was less than satisfactory. The food lacked flavor and tasted bland, as if the ingredients were not fresh. The gravies seemed to be made with generic tomato ketchup and readily available sauces, rather than authentic Indian spices. Overall, I was disappointed with the quality of the food and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a genuine Indian cuisine experience. It's best to avoid this place if possible.

Last minute meal out with family, we brought our mum here for an early Mother’s Day meal. The service by Sheila was so friendly yet professional, she is so welcoming and helpful. The food was really affordable with the Wednesday offer and it all came quickly and was delicious! We’ll definitely come back next time we come to Kendal! Thank you for the lovely service Sheila :)

Have had food from here lots of times before both takeaway & eat in so decided to order a new year's day takeaway. Ordered online at 4.30, paid & were told we would be notified when to collect the order, however my husband had to ring at 5.30 to see the status of our order only to be told it was ready. When be arrived to collect it be mentioned the lack of communication but no one seemed bothered. It was order no 2 so bad probably been ready for half an hour before we collected it. When we got it home it was almost cold & while mine was ok my husband said his was just average. This is unacceptable, if you can't handle online, telephone & walk in orders then either take on more staff or reduce demand. Either way you have lost a customer today

Ordered a takeaway early tonight. Waited over an hour after we had to ring them up twice. Food wise, disappointing, had a balti lamb, did not ha e any spice to it. Never received my drink either. Will not be returning.

Ordered a takeaway, appreciate that you are open on boxing day, but if you can't be bothered, perhaps stay closed. The food was very poor indeed. Bhajis overcooked, hard as rocks and inedible. Both chicken dishes were tasteless, but worse the chicken was cold in the middle - huge risk, didn't finish them! If I was eating in, I'd have sent it back and left. I called the restaurant to inform them. Come on guys, there's really no excuse for putting such poor food.

Small restaurant, unnecessarily loud large screen tv in such a small room, friendly staff, meal came out quickly, disappointingly mediocre, expensive drinks and sundries

We have ordered here or 12 mths and usually through the Just eat app. We ordered last week and th emoney was taken and then some 45 mins later (once all other vendors had closed) we were notified the restaurant wasn't reachable and the money was refunded but we were left without any meal that night. I called the restaurant this evening as on the Just Eat app they were accepting pre-orders only?! But to avoid any confusion i called to ascertain if they were accepting orders.... We were told by a nice mannered lady that we could order directly, so i asked to compare the price as a takeaway and the price of in house when ordering a pilau rice. The price was the same to eat in as it was o takeaway but the lay said if we pay cash then we would receive 10% discount.... As a customer of 12mths+ and as a local business operator it made me wonder why i was being penalised for using card given that 80% of retail sales are now paid by card. I usually get the same response from a window cleaner or independent taxi driver who wont accept cards (if i pay tax so do you !) I concluded that charging me to eat in and then adding delivery and service charges was a bit more than excessive and today they lost a customer that normally spends £70 - £80 each time. Unfortunately there is little value in this offering and we wont be ordering here anymore! A card fee is usually between 2-5% depending on the gross turnover so its not a great deal when charging restaurant prices for a take-away. Very short sighted!! I personally believe this has changed management or lost some key decision makers that now make poor big picture decisions. Shame to say the least Fairwell Eatern Balti ;)

Staying in Motorhome at Kendal Cricket Club, so we ordered so.e food to be collected. Food ready on time, more importantly, the food was extremely tasty. We ordered a variety of dishes and sides. Everything was spot on. Great takeaway.

Chicken Madras was very watery and looked cheap,, lt completely lacked flavour, the rice was nice though lol, but naan bread like cardboard also hard and unappealing, I won't use again unfortunately, over priced for the quality they serve up

I actually ordered for home delivery. I placed an order for £44.40. We were quoted 45 minutes for delivery. It took almost double the time. The driver tried charging £47.00, the food was cold and the manager was supposed to call me. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

When I ordered I was quoted 45 minutes, cost £44.40. The food arrived after 90 minutes. 2 calls to be told it was with the driver in the first Callander the second call I was told sometimes they say its with the driver when it isn't. The food was warm and the driver told me £47.00. We'll below recommended serving temperatures. They told me they would get the manager to call me. I'm still waiting.

Booked a take away for 5 friends from a restaurant we know well. Ringing I. The order at 5 pm it was ready as requested at 6.30 and was carried out to the car for me. Great to see Sheila again, food lovely, so tasty and reasonably priced. The restaurant was looking lovely. We will be back to eat in! Xx

Rubbish service! Dun waste ur tym

Lovely food, even if it was a bit quiet. Went for my wife's XXth birthday and we all really enjoyed it. Two of the dishes were quite hot (our problem not theirs) but really well flavoured and in the end quite reasonable. As someone else commented, it doesn't look much from the outside and it's not in the centre (only a 5 minute walk) but don't let that stop you.

Came to Eastern balti as was closest one after a very long day.... ordered chicken jalfrezi requested medium heat however the curry was awful, mostly Peppers and greenchillies in loads of sauce literually 4 chicken tikka pieces in the whole curry pot, lady was nice bless her but defo wayy overpriced for poor quality food.

Really good food in a small but cheerful restaurant. We enjoyed a tasty lamb balti and saag aloo. All well cooked and flavoured. Worth a visit.

After travelling whole day, It was the closest Restaurant we could find. Food was neither good neither bad. Service was disappointing but lady by herself tried to gave good service.

Cosy restaurant, delicious food and really popular place. Lovely mocktails! Such a dedicated owner who works so hard, wish the business the best in the future and will visit next time we visit the areas!

Upsides, lovely lady owner who was very chatty and attentive. Ditto the excellent waiter. Food was tasty and well prepared with good portion sizes. Very cheap by the bottle wine prices. Downsides, curiously restrictive menu, we did find food that we really enjoyed but are more used to a wider menu offering. Whilst the restaurant was pretty dead in terms of customers which didn't help, the ambience was disappointing, the decor is not to our taste - it is a fop to bright light and granite table top trendiness with no reference to Indian restaurants of old. Maybe this is what other customers want these days? The Eiffel Tower picture on the wall was really out of place but oddly intriguing! Would use again as a takeaway but not as an eat-in destination.

We hebben hier echt super heerlijk gegeten! Ongelofelijk kruidige currys. Werden heel vriendelijk geholpen en geadviseerd ober de pittigheid van het eten. Eten kwam snel. Het is dat we hier op doorreis langs kwamen anders zouden we hier zeker vaker terugkomen.

We were going to go somewhere else but it was pouring with rain so we thought we'd give it a go and we weren't disappointed. Its a fairly standard curry menu but all the food was good. Service was good too. Its obviously popular as there were a stream of take away deliveries.

A jewel in the Lake District. The food here puts a lot of london indian restaurants to shame. Chicken tikka rajasthani was excellent , all the food fresh and tasted of individual spices. And absolutely lovely nephew and uncle team running it. Can’t recommend highly enough!

We were looking for a quick evening meal not too far from the Riverside Hotel on Stramongate Bridge. Despite the fact it looked empty when we walked past, the Eastern Balti really delivered Good food, nice people, great service. Would really recommend as an alternative to hotel suppers - and as a grand supper after a day on the Lakes.

******AVOID AVOID AVOID******* I wish I could leave 0 stars for everything. The food and meat was old and reheated. The taste was bland. The service was very poor. The drinks were warm. When we asked for chilli sauce we were told this restaurant mainly caters for the white people and they don't like spice so we don't keep it here, how ridiculous. We live in a multi cultural country so all should be catered for in a begali restuarant. I do feel sorry for the white folks who eat this food as the quality is laughable. I had to leave more than half the food behind because we were scared we will get food poisoning. Avoid at all costs and save your time, money and stomach. If you want good halal food go somewhere else.

Decent curry house with a reliably good standard of food. Tried a variety of dishes and they’ve not disappointed. Would recommend the Balti and they do a good Chicken Tikka Masala too. Just park outside the newsagents a few doors down or round the back if you are driving car 🚙 👍🏼

Four of us dined there in October and all I can is that is one if the best meals we have ever had. We all had different curries and anyones was perfect, to top it of the waitress was lovely and very helpful. We will definitely be going again next time we visit Kendal.

Very tasty food, great prices and welcoming staff. It's fairly small so I'd recommend booking in advance for a table, especially for a larger group.

Dahl soup was really bangin, vindaloo super tasty. Service was great. Table of six and everyone was left totally satisfied.
