Lovely staff. The food was full of flavour & aromatic. There was no problem dealing with a large number of guests. The food was hot & there was no problem altering dishes I.e adding extra spice. We would go there again.

Ishaas Indian Eatery is a fantastic spot with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, where the friendly staff make you feel right at home. The garlic chicken tikka starter was flavourful and tender, but the real star of the meal was the lamb tikka chilli. It had just the right level of spice, a rich, thick sauce, and paired perfectly with a delicious Peshwari naan. A delightful dining experience all around, definitely worth a visit! Also, Cobra on tap is always a win!

My friends and I decided to have a curry here on a Saturday night…it was almost empty and as it is the only Indian in Ambleside we thought “Oh dear”….our first impressions were spot on. The staff were fine and the main restaurant nice…..but don’t venture downstairs to the toilets….the carpets are sticky well worn and the toilets smelled so bad… As for the food…very average…the overall assessment was…bland and hardly any meat…one of the kormas had four pieces of chicken! We did mention it but got no response at all. They have a monopoly in the area. Would I come back….definitely not.

We called in for dinner after work one night. We were greeted by very friendly staff who took us to a lovely comfortable table. The service was very good and soon enough our food was served. We opted for a set menu and wow there was a good helping. Food was delicious, hot and well spiced, this has got to be one of the best Indian restaurants in the lake district. Well worth a visit.

We are currently staying in a cottage in the middle of Ambleside and we picked up a takeaway last night. We went in to order and the service was excellent, with the ‘front of house’ great at helping to order what we’d like. We went for a drink in one of the pubs while the food was being cooked. When we returned 30-40 minutes later the food was ready for us. When we got home ever said that the food was tasty. I had a vegetable tikka masala and the variety of vegetables was great. We have eaten in the restaurant before (some time ago) and it was really good then, but as a takeaway, we would highly recommend.

Worst restaurant i have ever visited in uk. First impressions 6 waiters standing in front. Ok you are here to welcome then the all just stood in front of me as i am waiting for my order to come. I ask them to make it a bit comfortable as i don’t like 6 guys standing on my head while i am eating my food. And the manager rudest person ever with no sense and manners didn’t even tried to say sorry gor being rude or about his tone. Very rude.

The venue, should have been a warning, Other than the bar area, the restraurant is in need of a good clean, especially the carpets and walls at the top of the stairs. I recently dined at your restaurant and unfortunately, the experience left a lot to be desired. I had visited your establishment back in 2019 and had a satisfactory meal with helpful staff. However, upon my return five years later, the decline in quality and service was blatantly evident. The manager seemed indifferent to our presence, making our dining experience feel unimportant. The lack of attention was only matched by the subpar quality of the food. The balti chicken and lentil dish were disappointing, and to top it off, the Peshwari naan had an unusual drizzle of golden syrup, a deviation from the authentic recipe. The disappointment did not end there. Upon returning to our accommodation, one of our party members suffered an allergic reaction, pointing towards shellfish contamination in the food. This not only raises serious health concerns but questions the overall hygiene standards of your kitchen. While I appreciate your acknowledgment of my concerns, it will take significant improvements in service, food quality, and hygiene standards to regain my trust and confidence in dining at your restaurant again.

Went as a group of 10, service was good and the starters looked great and were fine as you can see in lots of the photos here. The actual food itself was the worst curry I’ve ever had. Miscooked and bland, another review mentions the overly red curry, they’re all the same curry with food dye or different garnishes, a base sauce is common practice but there is no difference in their jalfreezi to a korma but dye and chilli. They didn’t charge for the few drinks we had I think as they knew the undercooked and stale bits we had could’ve been an outrage with a higher bill.

A meal of two parts. The reviews weren’t great but we thought we’d give it a go. The mixed starters were fine. For mains I ordered two veggie side dishes. Banyan bhaji and mutter paneer. Both were great and sufficiently different from one another to assure me they weren’t from a stock sauce. My mate ordered the vegetable Rogan Josh. Not great. They’d clearly ran out of sauce so had poured a half can of chopped tomatoes on the top. Lazy and bland. The paratha was ok. But the weird bit was when we were asked if it was okay. I explained mine was good but asked what was with the tinned tomatoes on my mate’s. Embarrassed smile. I asked again. Same thing. I said it would be great to get a response. I did get one: a smile. I asked again, nothing. I can’t criticise my meal, it was good. But my mate’s was dreadful.

On our holiday in England’s Lake District, we came across this Indian eatery. This eatery has Indian staff. We were not greeted by any one as we entered, very unlikely in England’s restaurants. The restaurant was empty only couple of tables were occupied. We requested the manager to sit on a table for 4, instead of just showing us the table.. he called one of the waiters to show us the table. We again requested to be seated where other people were sitting… instead we were made to sit in the other area where there was no one else and given a corner table sticking to a heater. Not one smile, from any of the staff while serving us…all had some serious faces… but we realised, they were happily smiling and were friendly to the other nationality customers.. we had to ask for fork and spoons, don’t know why they assumed we would eat with our hands.. Biryani was served with serving plate without plates to eat… we had to ask for one… only once towards the end, the manager came and asked is everything alright…which meant nothing after all the attitude thrown since we entered…overall a horrible experience… In my entire 20 days trip throughout England’s country side this is the only place I would never recommend to any Indian… other nationals can go enjoy the place because they actually go overboard trying to please them . The local British are more welcoming friendly and well mannered. I wish I could give minus 5 for the service.

Waiter dropped plate on me while taking away empty dishes and he didn't apologise or asked if I wasn't hurt!!! Food dishes were sweet in taste. I recently dined, and I can confidently say I will never recommend this place to anyone. As a lover of Indian cuisine, I was particularly excited to try their butter chicken, but I was deeply disappointed. The butter chicken served here is a far cry from the authentic dish. The flavors were off, and it lacked the rich, creamy texture that defines real butter chicken. It felt like a cheap imitation rather than the genuine article. If you value authentic Indian cuisine, especially butter chicken, steer clear of this place. It utterly fails to deliver on its promise. Additionally, the service was very disappointing, adding to the overall negative experience.

We are frequent visitors to Ambleside and always call into this establishment for a curry. In the past the staff have been very warm, welcoming and attentive and the food good. However, to our dismay, last night's experience was the total opposite. On arrival we were greeted luke warmly and taken to our table. We have visited many times and always been greeted before as old friends. The usual front of house man was not there. He is an asset to the restaurant. We were taken to our table and left far too long before taking any orders. This is understandable if busy, but this wasn't the case. We gave them our order and waited patiently for our poppadoms. Sadly these never materialized and eventually our starters came. The onion bhajis were lovely but the tandoori chicken, which was vibrant red, was totally tasteless. The main courses were both cold. So disappointing when we know they can do better. I had ordered nuts pilau and they brought me plain rice. This was quickly rectified but it was cold and very greasy. We were very disappointed. When we came to pay we explained the issues as we couldn't get the attention of waiters during the meal. The guy on the tills was not interested and neither apologized. However he just shrugged and said that lots of mistakes had happened that night and they were understaffed and the boss wasn't there. This has demolished our faith in this once favoured restaurant in Ambleside. Such a shame. We have usually given this 5 stars and it has been gut wrenching to give it 1 star due to this last visit. As they say on Dragons Den ... We are out! Our custom has gone

No flavour at all and it looked nothing like a madras. My partners veg Rogan Josh just had a layer of red paste on top and then the curry was brown underneath, it wasn't even mixed in! Again why this restaurant has some bad reviews is beyond us. We’ve just had a lovely meal with lovely staff in a lovely clean restaurant. Great value and really tasty food. Well done guys keep it up 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

We had a meal on Saturday evening for 6 persons. The starter was average served on cold plates. There is a mixed starter for 4 which they could not extend to 6 so we just added a different mixed starter for 2. The main course was good however as it was quite chilly in the restaurant the food quickly lost its temperature. The toilets are a total disgrace and cleanliness is awful both male and female sections. This made us think a little……

Ishaas Indian Eatery Kelsick Road, Ambleside. LA22 0BZ Tel: 015394 31250 Date of visit: 19th January 2024 I have been thoroughly blessed this week with quality Indian Restaurants. Today I found myself wandering round the delightful Lakeland town of Ambleside. Apart from the weather, this time of year is probably the best time to be wandering round anywhere in the Lake District, before the thousands of tourists hit the spot! Today I sampled the delights of Ishaas Indian eatery on Kelsick Street. This smart spacious 100 or so seater, clean, modern and very comfortable has a lot to offer. Friendly smiling staff and food that is on another level. Fresh crispy pops with the pickle tray and an extra Lime pickle. I would recommend the Chefs special starter, with a soft succulent Chicken Tika, perfectly spiced Sheek Kebab, with a crispy tasty Onion Bhajee. Next on the order was a Chicken Madras, again fresh soft succulent chicken and a very tasty madras sauce. Pilau Rice and a gorgeous sweet Peshwari naan completed the order. I could tell as a former chef, that the spices had been freshly ground and held that vibrant fresh taste. It makes all the difference. Presentation was up there as well, the staff, especially Syd, or Syed or even Sid, passed some time with me chatting about some of the other well established Indian restaurants in the area. Carparking was no problem with two or three car parks in the immediate vicinity. Price was £35.55 but for the quality and service perfectly acceptable. And it’s a big 9/10 from me.

My first visit I absolutely enjoyed it. I had a lamb bhuna which was full of flavour, and the Lamb was very tender the only thing that I would mention that let it down was the cheese and garlic naan although it tasted very nice it almost seemed shoo bought. The overall the service the sack and the whole meal and experience was accident. I would definitely recommend this establishment 👌👍💙

Ambleside was reasonably busy straight after the new year. We were hoping to go for a Thai meal but one was shut and the other fully booked up. In the end we were happy with every aspect of this Indian restaurant. From starters to main course everything was good. Would recommend, and if back walking in the Lakes would come back here.

Food ok but nothing special. Hygiene shown as 5 star but cobwebs in abundance down the stairs to the toilet.

After walking from Ambleside to Grasmere with our four & seven year old, we got the bus back later on & basically fell into this restaurant. We were also with friends & did not have a reservation. We were warmly greeted & taken to a nice large table in a friendly & warm environment. The waiters (& I assume owner) could not have been any nicer. Really attentive to our two tired children - they soon woke up! The food was top draw & all 6 of us thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was also excellent & the restaurant was nicely filling up as we were leaving. I’ve been to several Indian restaurants in the UK & this is definitely one of my favourites. Can’t wait to return on our next visit from East Yorkshire to The Lakes.

Disappointed. Nice and relaxed atmosphere and very good service, all staff friendly and clearly attentive. Unfortunately our food was very bland, lacked any real taste. The lamb and chicken in the dishes was cooked well, but the sauces had no taste, my Rogan Josh was mostly tomato based. We did inform the waiter but no response. We visit Ambleside often but won’t be booking back in. Can only give a two star as food standard is key to any restaurant. Clearly a popular restaurant, but not for us.

We had two great meals. The service was excellent. The only thing that let it down was the decoration leading down the stairs to the toilets. The toilets themselves could do with being cleaner and redecorating. I would of given them five stars.

We had the worst dinner at the Eastern Balti, not just the worst Indian food. Everything our group of 4 ordered was dry, overcooked and flavourless. Lamb/meat? and chicken cubes, and chicken tandoori leg kebabs were chewy, sinewy and tasteless, chicken tough and no flavour. Lots of gravy on two of our orders which were not Indian in the least. Manager stated their food was to the taste of Michelin-star chefs who were regular weekly customers, but spectacularly failed to deliver. One to avoid!

The dishes at this takeaway are comparably priced to Kendal's leading Indian Takeaway but the quality is nothing like as good as their food; and it comes to you cold! I thought I would give this place a try last December so I went in and bought a Lamb Jalfrezi, a portion of Pilau Rice, two Onion Bhaji's and a garlic & Coriander Naan as they had no other Naans by this point. The Lamb Jalfrezi tasted good and authentic, but when added to the rice, I finished up with a lot of watery liquid with my meal which was disappointing. The Onion Bhaji's were overpriced for the size of them ( 3 inch flat patties) and were very oily! The Naan bread, when heated in the oven completely dried out in the middle and was like a cracker biscuit - not good! I paid an amount comparable to that had I gone to The British Raj, except from there it would have all been top quality and freshly prepared which non of this food was (they make it all in a kitchen in Lancaster apparently) and hot; ready to eat. Support your local Indian Takeaway folks - that is what I will be continuing to do.

Food and Service very good. If anything needs changing it is a tweak in the decor as it is very stark due to the cold green wall lighting which could be easily sorted with a different bulb to create a warmer feel but other than that it is a nice restaurant. No complaints.
