The Hand Made Ice Cream Company in South Lakeland

“Let’s stop for ice cream” we said. “It’ll be a treat for the kids” we said. It wasn’t. Honestly we nearly lost the will to live. Not the fault of the people serving but the convoluted menu of ice cream sundaes and milkshakes which each took about a week to make. We only wanted ice cream and were waiting around 45 minutes which honestly just wasn’t worth it. It wasn’t just us as several groups abandoned the queue while we were waiting. Need a fast-track queue for customers wanting ice cream only. Won’t be returning.

A great afternoon treat for the kids when the weather is sunny! Vegan ice cream and sorbet options being available along side the many ice cream and soda flavours certainly is a great touch. There’s a good selection of waffle cones, tubs and sundae’s for the little once’s that a partial to a fuss. Parking can be a bit of an issue but an overall great spot!

Staff could be friendlier and more welcoming. Aside from that the prices were good and the place had a good selection of ice cream

The best ice cream ever! Eaton Mess is to die for & portion size is generous. Go and enjoy. Take the opportunity to enjoy lovely homemade produce.

Absolutely delicious ice cream. So much choice of flavours and how to have your ice cream; in a cone, tub or delicious sundaes or waffles. Also vegan flavours available plus sorbet. The only negative at this time of year is the outside set up. If they moved the bins to slightly further away, had a few more tables and wasp catchers it would be a much more pleasant outside experience. Will definitely be back though and recommend to anyone visiting the area.

The service and ice-cream was out of this world. I would definitely recommend you go. But make sure you think about timing, often people will be thinking about going at the same time, if sunny. So you may have to queue. But believe me it is worth it. The staff work really hard and are extremely friendly.

We luckily found this place by accident! Lots of different flavours of ice cream, we were spoilt for choice. We only wanted ice cream’s in cones or tubs but saw the orders of waffles, sundae’s and shakes that were coming out for other customers and they looked really good. Portion sizes are great and it was really good value for money. Well worth a visit.

We were a party of 5 visited on a Sunday afternoon after having a pub lunch. Two ladies were serving, I had a mint chocolate chip ice cream which was delicious. The rest of the party had a selection of sundaes. It was nice to sit outside as the weather was cool but dry.

Saw a small sign for this place on the Ulverston Road. Had been for a pub lunch and decided to stop here for dessert. TripAdvisor says it is closed but this is wrong. We got there about 3.30pm. Hubby had a crushed strawberry cone and I had a lemon meringue pie sundae. Just scrummy and came to just under £8. Bargain compared to the price of 2 desserts in the pub. Gutted we are going home tomorrow as would liked to have visited again.

Absolutely loved it! Had to wait for food but only as its cooked from fresh so didn't mind. Staff were very friendly and accomodating, icecream was excellent. Would definitely recommend a visit, well worth it.

I totally understand that businesses have struggled in recent times due to Covid and they have had to find new ways of working hence everyone that visited this ice cream parlour during this period was very and I may very patient. It was quite quiet when I arrived and I only had to wait 5 minutes in the que prior to entering the parlour were I placed my order, one hot waffle with ice cream. I was give a receipt and a number. I was told that it would take 7 minutes as they were really busy!!!. I returned outside and waited patiently. After roughly 5 minutes, one staff member came out and shouted one plain waffle by its self, which no one claimed as I am guessing they got the order wrong. Another staff member came out shouting a number, yet again the order wasn’t claimed. This time it turned out that it was the right order but they were shouting the wrong number. People were trying to order coffees but they were told no as it takes to long to make. They were missing items off peoples orders and on occasions getting the orders totally wrong. After 30 minutes, I enquired to how much longer my order would be and I was told......not much longer. The staff member then returned and said .....you must of left because I missed my order. I politely explained that I had being there the whole time and they had not shouted my number or brought a hot waffle with ice cream out of the parlour. The staff member returned back into the parlour but quickly returned and stated we don’t have a order for your number we most of lost it. I showed her my receipt and the number ticket before she accepted my explanation that I had ordered. She quickly said well it will be another 7 minutes. When the waffle finally and arrived it was under cooked. The ice cream was ok but I’ve had better. I most admit that it was nicely presented in the takeaways tray. Due to the extremely long wait I was freezing cold. The staff did not apologise nor did they offer my a discount/refund. I will not be returning to this ice cream parlour as I can honestly say I have had a better experience from local ice cream vans. Massive disappointment

Omg what a selection of ice creams and sorbets (even vegan options). Handmade waffles, churros and sundaes are yummy but need to allow extra time as these are all made fresh. We visited 3 out of our 4 days in Cumbria so definately would recommend. (Remember on Monday’s they only serve ice cream).
