Well what can I say, probably the best Sunday Roast I've ever had. Breaded Brie to start, braised pork and then an amazing dessert. Thanks to Stu and kitchen staff for an amazing meal. Thanks to Jade, who runs an amazing and efficient team 👏 Totally recommend The Mill for a GREAT Sunday lunch. Cosy roaring fire, very chilled atmosphere 👌. Well done 👏

Amazing drinks choice staff are very welcoming and friendly all in all can't wait for my next visit and multiple to come.

Popped in for late Sunday lunch just after 4pm without a booking. Sat in bar area. Nice ambience and attentive staff. Had one of the local ales and was lovely. A superb selection of local ales. Wife had a glass of red which she enjoyed Ordered two roasts and a starter to arrive with the mains. Absolutely massive portions and well cooked. A truly lovey roast and great pint in nice booze. Our first visit to The Mill. We popped in for lunch during our visit to Ulverston. The batter on the fish was outstanding, the trio of sausages were fat, juicy, and succulent, and the tomato chutney on the cheese and ham sandwich was simply delicious. Arrived to our booking 10 minutes early, to be shown to our table in a room of bickering and complaining. Our order was taken with no information of any wait times or problems the restaurant were having. Tables were talking between each other on how long they had already been waiting ( approx 1 hour ) for food with no indication from staff as to why, a table then left. More people arrived with no info on issues so sat and waited to be served that never happened so they left. Our drinks were brought upstairs but sat on a table waiting to be brought to us for 20 minutes. Starters arrived after 30 minutes, the soup was bland and tasteless which required a hefty amount out salt and pepper and the chicken pâté had a piece of plastic in it, there was no check back from staff so the food was left to be eventually taken away. Whilst waiting the 45 minutes for our main more tables had left and were also having troubles. The mains arrived were edible but we weren’t asked for any more drinks we just wanted to leave at this point so we tried to attract the attention of a waiter for sometime to get the bill. After getting their attention and waiting 25 minutes there was still no bill so we headed to the bar downstairs to try and quickly pay and leave. We travel to the lakes a few times a year and always try to eat here this is the first time we’ve had a terrible experience and has ruined the idea of returning in the future. No check backs by staff, food that was inedible, terrible atmosphere, no repeat drinks order and worst of all no information from staff as to why the problems were occurring. Have given staff service rating 3/5 inky due to the politeness but couldn’t score any higher.

The Mill is the perfect place to go for a nice meal in Ulverston. We have gone for Sunday roasts, Mother’s Day, dates, and Birthdays. Most recently we took my father-in-law and his wife to celebrate his 70th birthday. Gemma, the manager of the Lancaster breweries was so helpful in creating a wonderful night for him. She is a hostess extraordinaire. Not only did Papa get the “best pie of his life” but we had a really nice dining experience as well. Highly recommend the starters, especially the mussels and the pate. If you’re looking for a date night, place to celebrate or just a lovely Sunday dinner, The Mill is the best in Ulverston!

Booked a Sunday Lunch for 6 people at 2pm in the restaurant upstairs. Place was buzzing downstairs, food looked good but unfortunately we didn't get to experience it. After being seated at our table by Barry, we waited over 15 mins and ended up getting our own drinks at the bar. It became quite apparent that Barry was on his own and hats off to him, he kept his composure. We could have been advised when we first arrived that they were short-staffed and that there would be a significant delay in getting our food. Instead after waiting 45 mins with no attendance at our table, even though we asked numerous times for our order to be taken, we decided that we would not be getting any food anytime soon and left. People were still sat at tables with no food that had been there before us. Very disappointed. Communication is key. It was Bank holiday, obviously going to be busy, staff accordingly, if staff have let you down, call customers and advise, make it more manageable for yourselves and make the customers experience a more memorable one. Shame but Barry well done on keeping your cool.

Booked a table at the Mill whilst away for the night in Ulverston. Seemed short staffed and one guy rushing around like a headless chicken but he was very polite and helpful and doing his best in a bad situation. The couple on the next table said they had been waiting an hour for food! While there I began feeling unwell And sickly and had just ordered food so asked to cancel the order but keep My partners order to eat.. went downhill quickly and then the manager came and said we had to pay for the food I ordered even though I cancelled it early on.. Said it was all Prepared. Which I found difficult to believe considering the people on the next table had been waiting an hour ! Then was charged full Price on the Bill for a takeaway box with a peice of chicken mash and green beans no gravy or sauce.. very poor. Would not return

We travelled from Lancaster to celebrate my sons birthday. We were recommended The Mill. We sat outside in pleasant area. We decided to have some food and sad to say it wasn't the best. I wondered if there was a shortage of kitchen staff. The food was overcooked, which is better than undercooked, but tainted the taste and enjoyment. I had the chicken and mayo flatbread which had been overcooked. Chicken was dry. Grandson(5) wouldn't eat his chicken goujons were the same and he wouldn't eat them. My daughter and son in law ordered burgers and they weren't too impressed either. I know lack of staff can cause these problems and the only excuse I can think of when you have good reviews.

We popped in for hot drinks on a cold June afternoon. We ordered an Americano coffee and a English breakfast tea. The Mill was very quiet but it was mid/late afternoon when the lunchtime rush would have been over and before the evening service would have started Service was very good we placed our order and our drinks were delivered to our table. It was very unusual to receive a pot of coffee but my husband was very pleased that he did as it was very good quality and was more than a standard cup you would usually receive. The tea was very good as well Very reasonably priced for what we got The Mill as the name suggests has an old waterwheel inside which is a great feature and it's a comfortable and very clean place to stop for food and drink. If we were staying here longer I think we would have had dinner here. We had a look at the menu and the food sounded delicious

I don't often write reviews, but this place really does deserve a decent one as we thoroughly enjoyed everything about our visit there today. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. The pub itself has a lot of character and would be great anytime of the year as it would very cosy in the winter, and great for sitting outdoors in the summer. We booked a table for 3 and took our dog which they were more than happy to accommodate. Great selection of beers, lovely wine even by the glass, and the food was actually the best that we have had this week having eaten out a few times already. This is proper home-made food. You can really tell that, which is rare these days. Even better is that the food tasted great and was presented really well also. I had a ribeye steak which was excellent. My fellow diners had 2 different homemade pies between them which looked awesome, and according to them they also tasted as good as they looked. If you like homemade chips you won't be disappointed either. Starters of French Onion soup and Calamari were excellent as well. Both definitely seemed to be homemade again. Credit to the chef. Highly likely we will be back as we enjoyed it all so much. Great place for a bite to eat and a few drinks, especially if you have a dog as well. Thanks to all the staff and chef there for a great dinner today.

This was a return visit for us but was disappointing. Luke is fantastic and the only member of staff who seemed to want to be there. Food wasn't great although our expectations were low as out of 9 people sitting at tables around us, 3 sent their food back and one table sent back both their mains and desserts. Our food was lukewarm but edible. Nobody offered us more drinks or a dessert menu so we paid up a d left. There's better places to eat just around the corner.

Booked this spot as we were under the impression that the Mill is the place for a quaint pub dinner in Ulverston - turned out to be a bit more interesting than that. Had to walk through a wannabe Calvin Harris doing his set in the bar area to get to the restaurant. It was a lovely space but the bass from the rave downstairs coming through the floorboards made for an amusing vibe. Food was a mixed bag. My steak and peppercorn pie from the specials board was top notch but my friend’s ribeye steak was sub par - overcooked and quiet a poor cut of meat. But it was okay because our waitress was one of a kind. She was very helpful in having the steak, which my friend had left most of, taken off the bill because, and I quote, “I didn’t cook it, I don’t care.” We did also appreciate her retrieving the iPad to take it to VAR and confirm that we weren’t mistaken in claiming we had asked for a medium rare steak. Other examples of the nonchalant attitude included the leisurely arrival of the ketchup (just in time for the final chip) and the care-free scoff and shrugg when we had the audacity to ask for a steak knife - it was a silly request, we know. We also felt that the spilt mayo, which spent quite some time or the floor before a customer said he couldn’t bear to look at it anymore and cleared it himself, really added to the ambience. We would all be a bit happier if we took our waitress’ approach to life. I would like to make clear, because I know we are at risk of sounding like we are criticising her, that we loved our waitress! A below average meal, and below average service was salvaged by the hilarious waitressing style. We had the most enjoyable time at the Mill - it was let down in a number of respects but was saved by our waitress!!! Do go to the Mill - not for the steak but for the waitressing staff

It was a bit of an upsetting experience. Came here with my Dad for quick drink after a walk and was thinking of booking a table for that evening for 2 to have dinner. When we arrived we were ignored by 2 staff members that walked straight by us. Then when we actively went to the bar, the lady there didn’t know how to make a drink we requested and then proceeded to be quite rude. When we asked if there was any availability for the evening instead of saying yes or no sorry it was “ it will be tight..”. From this experience it wasn’t welcoming and actually turning down potential business! Annoying to see but I wouldn’t recommend to anyone to go here.

A lovely pub and a very sociable bar maid working on her own which is understandable given its a week day. Ordered a pint which was palatable but not enjoyable as it was at room temperature. Went for the steak and ale pie with mash and veg. Unfortunately the food was delivered with chips and not mash but the young lady quickly took the chips away to replace. The rest of the dish was anything but appetising. The pie was burnt and i couldnt cut the pastry with a knife and the veg seriously under cooked and as with the pie, I couldn't cut up the veg (I have a pic) the only right thing was the extra gravy I asked for. I have a speech restriction and didn't want to complain to the lovely young lady. After waiting a little while for my mash to arrive I decided to cut my losses and go try another eatery. I would definitely drop in again as it is a lovely pub. However, i would insist on a cold pint and avoid the food. John B.

Came in for a meal with my husband, a celebratory meal as we are newlyweds visiting the Lakes on a mini-moon, to the most shocking service we have experienced in a long while. We opted for a chicken burger and a steak and ale pie, both rather expensive for the portion size. The chicken burger was burnt, tasteless and unappetising on arrival. My husband however, to his horror, ended up finding a bone or sharp piece of plastic in the pie. When informing the waitress of this (a young girl with reddish brown hair and glasses) she just shrugged this off and went on her way. Absolutely appalling behaviour towards a customer!! When letting the waitress know of this, we did not expect any compensation or free food/beverages (which is what any normal business would have offered!), as a simple apology would have sufficed. Still in shock at the absolute lack of basic customer service, even greeting, thanking or saying goodbye to your customers were all missing from this visit. Absolutely do not recommend and will definitely not be returning.

Great spot. Just off the middle of the town. Place has THREE bars and a big outside area hidden away at the back (up the spiral stairs and follow the signs). Its a great place for food and it has top notch beer. Always a good mix of boys and girls, young and old. Big meeting pot for the town and also pulls in a lot of visitors. I like it.

We absolutely loved it at The Mill. Saw it on our walk round Ulverston on the Wednesday and thought it looked nice so went in for lunch on the Thursday. Such a cosy atmosphere for quite a large pub and the staff were so friendly and eager to please. The food was absolutely amazing, so delicious! If we're ever in Ulverston again we will definitely be going back.

Nice surroundings and promptly seated by a lovely fire on a cold day. The food was good but the unfortunate thing was some delay in it all arriving. Now to be fair we were a party of 6 but it was not at all busy. Being a Monday evening I am thinking only one in the kitchen and one waitress. Don't get me wrong we had a good time and a nice meal in Nice warm surroundings but it wasn't quite spot on. Debatable if we would go again

We nipped into The Mill today on our tour around Ulverston and we ended up staying for hours because loved it! We were only supposed to stop for a drink but it was so lovely we decided to stay for food. The bartender David was very helpful, welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us. Despite being so busy and rushing around, he got us seated in a lovely area upstairs and we ordered small plates to share between our group. The food was outstanding. We enjoyed it very much. We stayed for more drinks because we were being looked after so well. We will make this a regular stop and will be visiting more often!

Waitress not to happy.went for Sunday roast menu says three meats asked what they were she replied beef or pie not what we expected, went for the beef after 40 minutes we received the beef which had a lot of fat running through it(thankfully we had a hungry cocker spaniel at home which received a large portion of it)Mentioned to staff at end said it was cooked in a steam bath and should be tender, well it wasn’t and probably explains why not a lot of taste.shame as several pubs in Ulverston are really good at Sunday lunches we will not rush back for the roast

Absolutely faultless from Dave and the team! First visit to the Lake District and The Mill. 100% will be coming back to the same location and pub. We dined upstairs which definitely had a lovely rustic ambience and was more like a restaurant with table service. The food was impeccable and underpriced in our opinion. From the wild mushrooms, to the huge sirloin steak, to the apple brulé, to the raspberries in our raspberry gin. Just all the little touches and quality, made it worth going! Couldn't recommend enough!!

My family came here for lunch to celebrate our Nephews 21st birthday. As we'd travelled to meet up and wanted to take our time the staff suggested we sat in the bar area for our meal so we didnt feel rushed. It was a lovely table out of the way and we thoroughly enjoyed the food and drink. The staff were amazing and we didnt have to wait long for anything at all. I had the fish and chips, one of the best i've ever had and it was a large portion. The chips were superb and the batter light and crispy. We'll definitely be back again when we all meet up.

Annual trip to Ulverston for our little group (actually not been in 4 or 5 years due to the pandemic but its back to annual again now). Always a favourite - we took half the back room (Snug) and enjoyed really super starters and mains. One of our group ordered a pie which was so enormous and luscious she had to eat all of it and forget about desserts. Super service from our young male server, smiling all the way. Look forward to visiting again next year.

First time visiting here for food. It took a little while to come but it was very busy. The selection of drinks offered here is one of the best. Plenty of options and types. My chips were slightly undercooked but I'll assume that's a one off. Table service is quick due to the use of electronic callers. We will definitely visit again.

We both ordered soup with a cheese scone. This is after a walking week with soup and bread taken every day. Not only was this the most expensive we came across but the scone was very, “doughy,” and undercooked. It was far from acceptable. It’s very clear that the staff have not tried their own product. I urge them to test the product, change the recipe and improve the cooking process. I was really unhappy with our experience though the ambiance of the cafe is excellent if a little cold with the door wide open trying to attract customers. Could do much better. I strongly urge them to seek customer feedback so that they find out what people actually think.

The absolute warmest of welcomes, this is a proper pub with amazing hospitality. I came in somewhat bedraggled from a journey through storm Bert and they sorted me out with everything a person might need to recover. A drink, a spot to sort my phone out, a guide to the taxis in the town, great chat and genuine care. If this is Ulverstone, I’m planning a trip to next years Dickensian Fair proto.

Food was lovely. We had the nicest Veggie breakfast that included our favourite Glamorgan sausages. Reception was warm and welcoming and service was prompt and friendly. Would thoroughly recommend the Magic Roundabout to anyone!
