Farmers Arms in South Lakeland

Nice pub and food. I went mid week and the place was humming. Planned to order the mussels but went for the lamb special instead and wasn't disappointed. Very tasty food

We cam to Ulverston to visit the Laurel & Hardy Museum, but it was closed even though Google said it was open. So we decided to explore town instead. We stopped at the farmers for a few cappuccino's and my husband enjoyed a delicious meal. He shared his yummy cheesy chips with me as he was unable to finish it all. The staff are very friendly, the food is delicious. Dogs are welcomed to join their companions in the outside seating area. Lovely spot 👌

Excellent food and ale. Enjoyed the evening meal whole trout and vegetables. Call next time I'm local for another superb breakfast.

Looks like a real small pub from the outside but deceptively much bigger. We had prebooked and just as well as even on a Thursday night it got busy. Was pleased with the quality and presentation of the food. Only managed a starter and main as was really full!! Would highly recommend 😃

Friendliest pub in Ulverston, great atmosphere and a fine place for a pint or some good Lake District fare. Good banter with bar staff, coupled with a good selection of ales, stick beers and wine - all good. Can get a bit crowded but just adds to the atmosphere

Having watched a rave review about the fish and chips on a YouTube channel we decided to give it ago. Even if you are not eating when in Ulverston you always pop in the pub or sit outside in a seated area with wall heaters for the cooler days. A great choice of real ales and a cosy bar area inside. The pub then opens up to eating come drinking area and then the main restaurant. If you are going to give it a try its best to book to avoid disappointment as it's a very popular place. Friendly helpful staff showed us to our seats and the food was ordered. The fish and chips were simply the best I have ever had in a pub. A large perfectly cooked fish and very tasty home made chips. A small dish of tartar sauce and a portion of lovely mushy peas accompanied the meal. The total quantity made the price tag of £18 an excellent meal. The only reason I gave four stars not five was after the meal when sat in the upper area i would have liked some slightly louder background music to create more atmosphere but that's just me. Overall a great venue with excellent staff.

Ordered mussels and plaice which arrived at the table piping hot and in good time. Unfortunately every single item in the two dishes was massively overcooked and inedible, except the 3 times cooked chips where at least 50% were not totally cremated. Absolutely appalling food! How they survive is a mystery! Don’t, repeat don’t, ever make the mistake we did!

Came with no booking and no expectations after a dreadful experience elsewhere in Ulverston the previous evening.Wow...couldnt have been more different.Very welcoming, fantastic service from Andrew.The food was stunning.We were warm ,comfy and so well looked after.

Great selection of drinks and if you get a coffee/tea it comes with a little flapjack which is a nice touch. Very good atmosphere, people are always friendly. Have been here for breakfast and dinner and always amazing food.

The Farmers always has a nice friendly vibe to it - As a free house it’s got a good selection of wine and beers, and on the food side a good menu. Sadly the last couple of times we’ve been in it’s been good, but not quite amazing. Attention to detail has just been lacking on silly small things. We will always be going back, as it’s a great place - but when you’re charging top prices you need to be on top of your game

Had a fantastic meal here for my mother in laws 30th. Rib eye steak cooked perfectly, huge portions. Nothing was too much bother. Sensible prices.

Called in this evening on the off chance that we could get a table. We were in luck, and ordered our meals. Hubby ordered a rib eye steak. It was was served with mushrooms, onion rings and chips. He asked for his steak medium rare, and it was served perfectly cooked. I ordered a pan fried whole brill. It was served with new potatoes, green beans, and an amazing prawn and cream sauce. Absolutely delicious. I followed this with Eton Mess. Not too sweet, or too tart. Just perfect. Including 2 rounds of drinks the bill was less than £70. The service was impeccable. Very highly recommended.

Had a lovely lunch here! The restaurant/pub area is nicely decorated, we had the soup, beef brisket baguette, and our son had the children's pizza, all very good! Price was very good for the quality, and came up under £40 with drinks! The service was quick and friendly!

Fantasric place to eat in Ulverston. The food in the evening was great, but the night was made better by the highly attentive waitresses (Ally, I believe our waitress was), who even went the extra mile when she asked a table of locals, politely, to stop shouting sexual comments on a nearby table. Because of Ally and the food, we returned for breakfast next day and had a great breakfast (apart from the eggs that were overcooked). Would definitely advise you eat here if in the area.

Uninteresting food, overcooked meat etc., mediocre wine. Very nice service but that doesn't redeem Cindy Lauper at full cost.

Visited for works Christmas lunch, very enjoyable. Lovely atmosphere.

We were a group of 7 friends. We sat down at 1.40 and the food arrived 2.25. Luckily 3 had good meals but 2 in particular were very poor. The beef brisket in the photo was so poor we sent it back. Gloopy gravy, dry meat which did not look like brisket. My turkey dinner was also very dry, very small and certainly not worth over £20 I paid. Both meals had clearly been stood awhile as the food was barely warm. All in all a few of us felt very disappointed. After having such a great meal at the pubs sister venue in Baycliff I let the very nice serving person know my view. She was polite and professional hence the 2 stars.

Incredible food!! Had the mixed Sunday dinner and it was extremely good. Service and ambience is lovely in here. Will be back again 👌

A beautiful pub in the lovely market town of Ulverston, The food in the farmers is excellent !! The staff are exemplary, friendly, fast and efficient, we went there to celebrate my nieces 18th Birthday ( November 2024) we were all very impressed with the whole experience !! and the christmas decorations add such a special touch to a meal there at this time of year - outstanding evening thank you everyone at the Farmers.

A lovely little cafe at the top side of the central high-street square turns out a true Tardis when you go in. Looked really lush, glamorously decorated. Although a more friendly attitude was expected from apparently professional staff.

The Farmers never disappoints. The food is great, the staff are friendly and the decor, especially as they lead into Christmas, has been done to a very high standard. We had, between us, the mussels, pizza, braised beef and the steak - all done to perfection, and all served hot together. My only criticism is that you have to run the gauntlet of a packed bar and patio area to get to the rear of the pub, and there’s no real separation between bar and restaurant - and that’s such a minor thing - but we asked around the staff for a bit before finding the right place to check in. Been before, and yes I’d go back. It’s great.

Just been for a family meal and it was absolutely amazing,great service and food was fantastic,the Cajun chicken and Brisket where probably the best we have ever had,if in the area again we will definitely be back

Me and my partner have been staying in Ulverston and liked The Farmers so much we visited twice! Really lovely place, nice relaxed atmosphere and the food was amazing. Good vegan and vegetarian options and the portions were very generous and reasonably priced. Staff were all friendly and very good. Food came out really quickly on both occasions. Would absolutely recommend this place if you're staying in Ulverston or the surrounding area.

Met friends for drinks on a busy Friday evening. The place was packed but tables soon became free. All the staff were magnificently attired in a kind of uniform, amazing for a pub. Drinks (beer and wine) good value.

The overall experience was good as usual but my roast beef dinner was let down by the beef being very gristley and fatty. Nice atmosphere and pleasant service.

Beautiful building and nice atmosphere inside. We really enjoyed our visit. Even though we arrived just before they stopped serving lunch (2.45) the staff were great and did everything they could for us. Portions are very generous and everything was delicious, we enjoyed our visit very much

What has happened to the Farmers ? This is my second recent visit where the food has been very poor quality. This was my favourite place to eat but they have obviously moved to a profit before quality model. Won’t be coming again, very disappointed

When for a meal with a friend had a fab meal as always the food was great and the service was very good friendly staff. My only negative was when we went to pay the bill was presented with the card machine and the young lad said "Do you want to leave a tip" which he repeated a couple of times !! I said no I leave a cash tip.I think this member of staff needs to to rephase how he says it because it came across rude.

Delicious food the nachos were very good and we had a very nice picnic board plenty of food and very tasty. Friendly and attentive staff and a lovely relaxed atmosphere brilliant afternoon

Been before and normally good, but the true test is how they handle it when things don't go well. I ordered the Brisket, which needs to be cooked properly, but unfortunately it wasn't. It has to be cooked with the fat on, but not too much or it goes slimy. It was the worst meat I have ever tasted and I ledt it all. I notified the young waitress who was really nice. She apologised, and said she would tell the chef (not sure if she was confident enough to do that) . I expected someone to come and speak to us, as 2 of our party had the Brisket and we both left it. Nobody came, no offer of swapping it for something else, not even a free Baileys :-( The team in there are always good, and we will go again, but not recommending it any more. Shame.

Well all I can say is shocking, had to find out own table through a bunch of staff chatting. Waited over 15 mins for someone to ask if we wanted a drink or menu. Absolutely shi...... Would definitely not recommend to anyone. Ps clean your toilets stink of piss which leads out to your restaurant

Ordered a falafel burger. It was absolutely the worst falafel I've had. Surely it was a pre-made, commercially manufactured burger taken out of the freezer. Perhaps other things are good here - not sure - but stay away from the falafel. Service was good.

Service was slow due to it being busy. However this was clearly due to only having one floor staff on a busy Sunday. Had to go up to the bar 20minutes after ordering a drink to actually receive the drink after server didn’t put the drink through. After requesting to speak to the general manager, they were rude and dismissive, attempting to blame someone else on the team and they then walked away instead of resolving the problem with us. The attitude given whilst talking to paying customers was appalling. Took almost 15 minutes to actually get the bill before even paying

I had a fantastic experience at Farmers, excellent service,I was greeted with a warm smile and made to feel right at home. The service was attentive without being intrusive, I will definitely be returning and would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a warm hospitality, and a perfect place to unwind.

We visited twice for food in a week and it is definitely best to book a table. The Sunday roast was beautiful according to my in laws, I had two starters as a main and that was plenty. The staff were very attentive, polite, chatty and well presented. Would 100% recommend

Went here for a meal, meal was good. Roof was leaking in the torrential rain, so we were moved. Beer selection was average. Servers were friendly and courteous. I would be happy to return to eat there.

Full english breakfast £26.90 for two !! Honeysuckle Cafe across from it was half that and they gave you a choice of fresh bread too when we went in the next morning!!

Rude waiter when he heard I was a yank, he promptly started talking down to me. He screwed up the drinks order (I had asked for Hendricks and he said that I didn’t tell him) We asked about food he told me they weren’t serving food and none was available. The family next to us got a food order after I was told no food was being served. AMERICANS (YANKS) WON’T BE SERVED BY THIS SURLY LOT!!

Went as a party of 4 on Saturday Waited quite a while for our food order to be taken After another 3/4 of an hour realised they had lost/not processed our order and were offered complementary drinks to compensate Food was very good when we got it When we came to pay our food bill we were presented with the drinks bill of nearly £30(supposedly comlimentary) After a lengthy discussion with a member of bar staff we ended up paying nearly £10 of the bar bill as well as the food bill Alledgedly the female member of staff who offered the complementary drinks had finished her shift and no-one knew anything else about it!! Not happy and won't be returning!!

Had a roast dinner here. The beef was very fatty and I couldn't eat it. The rest of the meal was lovely especially the gravy which was so delicious. Lovely restaurant area. Staff were all lovely and very efficient. Definitely would go again.

Ate here on my own while away on business. Lovely atmosphere. Great food and friendly staff. Right in the heart of Ulverston so plenty of other pubs around to visit.

Wasn’t expecting gourmet food, just soup and a sandwich. Ordered a veggie and a vegan soup, a med veg baguette and a cheese and chutney baguette. Med veg baguette came smothered in by far the worst vegan cheese I’ve ever tasted. It was an option and I hadn’t been asked if I wanted it. I’d have declined, not because, as the server said , ‘all vegan cheese is horrible’ but because the kind served in pubs often is. The 2 soups were the same brown colour and unidentifiable taste. No one had tried their best to make this soup delicious, that’s for sure. Server tried to claim that one of them was cauliflower cheese soup. Not plausible. And the cheese and chutney baguette had no chutney in it. Feedback given politely, received defensively. How hard can it be to provide nice soup and a sandwich for £10?

First trip to Ulverston for a one night stay and had been in one pub that looked nice on the outside but not great inside so thought we would try the Farmers next for a drink. Looks small from the front but once inside we were not only surprised by how big it was but the fact that it was packed. We bought a drink each and found the last table / chairs available - the decor is modern and bright. We were sat near the main dining area and having seen / smelled the food coming. out we decided to eat here instead of where we had planned. We made a gear choice ! Starting with an unbelievably priced bottle of prosecco which is £11 on Thursdays. We had the pitta, hummus & nibbles to share then i chose the kilo of mussels that came with chips, French stick and prawn. skewers whilst my partner had the prawn skewers with sweet & sour sauce, rice and salad. All extremely tasty, large portions and a great price.

Had to wait a while for a hot beef sandwich, but when it came it was spot on, came with salad and slaw but the so called hand cut chips tasted more like frozen?

Here for a Sunday lunch - friendly staff, great location in town with parking nearby, clean airy restaurant area and big portions! All the extra gravy you want ;)

Nice looking gastro pub, the pub food was nice, pretty average though, I suppose the menu in the restaurant area is different. Good atmosphere but slow service and the loos were a little smelly unfortunately. Perhaps it was a bad day, wouldn't put me off going again, all round a nice visit.
