A pre birthday meal we planned for tonight. We weren't staying here but down the road at a spa hotel. We'd looked at the menu and reviews prior to coming. We ordered the burrata and Scotch Egg for starters. We had the fish pie and orzo for mains followed by pannacotta & mousse for pudding. Service was great, really quickly to take orders, drinks served and food. Food quality was excellent. Pricing on the mid range to expensive but well worth it. Presentation spot on. We left having had a beautiful meal. Highly recommend
Photographs of the two rooms with open fires look delightful, especially the room with the old fashioned range and hearth, but it seems there is every chance, even if you book weeks in advance, you won't be seated in either but placed in a small room at the rear warmed only with electric heaters. This room should be reserved for walk-ins, or have it made clear when booking - you must book by phone - that you will not be sitting in one of the rooms featured prominently on the website, or, indeed, online reviews. You have an unspoilt interior but this unsatisfactory arrangement is like a throwback to a time when pubs did not have to try too hard.
This wasn't putting off punters on the night we visited however. The small bar area was packed. And although there was nobody at all sitting in one of the dining areas with open fire we were informed all of these tables were reserved and directed to the back room. Food may be a notch above average for a regular pub but is short of gastro standard. There appears to be some work going on at the rear currently. Difficult to find a space and several inconsiderately parked vehicles.

Had a lovely evening here. Very diverse menu, covering different tastes. Had salads with soft boiled eggs for starters. Hubby's was brussel sprouts & tasted lovely. I had the beef onglet for main & Roast Cod for hubby. Absolutely gorgeous 😍
Then the trio of desserts for him & ice cream for me. Couldn't fault anything. The atmosphere was lovely. Service was unbelievable. All food came to the table quickly & with a smile. We had a bottle of New Zealand red, which was Lush.
Would definitely come back & and recommend it to anyone. A really lovely evening.

The Yan recently hosted us for a photoshoot for Go Outdoors, the team were incredibly helpful and welcoming, and patient with us with all our crew and vehicles. The setting of The Yan is stunning, you feel immersed in nature, but also close to Grasmere and Ambleside for exploring. The catering which the team provided was wonderful also. Thank you so much to the team at The Yan.
Called in by chance after a 7 mile walk. Coffee and cake was called for. The Lavazza coffee is lovely, and the banana bread with cocoa nibs was plentiful and delicious. Will be back. They also had Queens of the Stone Age on quietly in the background, win win.
Came here after reading the reviews. Really enjoyed what we had (full breakfast and bacon barm), excellent coffee and friendly service - would visit again.

A must if you're visiting the Lake District. We visited for the Sunday roast and shared the beef, it was brilliant. Even let us take home the 'heftovers'! Will hopefully visit again one day !

We love this place so much, always dine here a couple of times when we’re visiting the Lakes.
It’s not a fancy restaurant, but serves very consistently good traditional Greek dishes.
Booking recommended as they get busy!
Staveley chippy is one of the best we’ve been to. Very tasty food and great service. Elliott and his staff are always friendly, smiley and professional. It’s very much part of the Staveley community. The pizzeria next door is amazing too!
Beautiful food people and service. They even put th fire on especially for us. Beautiful place. Definitely recommend and be going again very soon. I had the gammon egg and pineapple which was honestly the best I've had.
