If you’re in Ambleside this family friendly cafe is well worth the short walk from the centre of town. The breakfasts are great and the cakes are home made, just look at the indulgent cherry Bakewell cake. But for us the highlight was just how accommodating and friendly the staff are, thank you for giving our family a warm welcome.

Bit of a hidden gem heading out of town on the lake road - but ignore their A board advertising this friendly second floor café at your peril. We visited Sunday pm in a bid to find a little peace from the bustle of town and grab a cold drink. Sadly, we'd already eaten but we'll definitely return for some food next visit. What sets this place apart is the service. Yes the cakes looked fab, yes the milkshakes were AMAZING and yes the big glass windows overlooking the climbing wall made a brilliant setting...BUT without a doubt, the reason we'll return to and recommend this place is absolutely the welcoming, chatty owners. They mentioned they've not long since taken it over but if they keep up that level of service and quality food/drinks, I'm certain you'll be around a while. Meg (the dog) said thanks for the special treat!

What a hidden gem. We arrived close to closing time but the hosts couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating. They were at pains to insist we didn’t feel rushed and served up delicious food - including a lovely warm piece of cake and ice cream. Delicious! And all with a great view over the rooftops of Ambleside to the fells.

We took a break in Ambleside after a walk at Rydall Water. Having parked up and being very thirsty we came across this cafe walking in to town. Very friendly staff, lovely fresh food and you can either watch people climbing on the indoor wall or look over roof tops at the hills at the back. We left having thoroughly relaxed and having had an enjoyable lunch of home made coleslaw, salad and perfectly cooked jacket potatoes with cheese. The tea was ample but we were still asked if we wanted the teapot refilling. Great service and food. Only reason not 5 is you gave to go up a lot of stairs so not good for disabled people or those with pushchairs; unless I missed the lift.

Our eldest boy loves climbing and this cafe right next to the wall is a great touch. Lovely home made cakes and comfy ambience. Though as a decidedly very family friendly environment the toilets could do with a baby changing shelf as we had to do our youngest on the toilet floor. Stopped here for lunch and I had the hunters chicken ciabatta with sweet potato fries. It was very nice indeed. My only complaint was that I got a bone in the chicken which I was going to point out but no-one came to us to ask how our meal was or to take our dishes away, the staff were upstairs as it was closing time and they were clearing up (I assume). When we went to pay for it the girl didn't ask if everthing was ok or how our meal was so I didn't bother saying anything. It didn't stop me from enjoying my meal or my time spent here.
