The Joshua Tree in South Lakeland

A cosy restaurant with good friendly service, very helpful. The food was great. I had the fried seafood which was fresh and hot. The best squid I’ve had in a long time. You’ll find it down an alley. It’s well worth finding it.

Popped in for lunch and enjoyed the atmosphere within a beautiful old building. I had the Fish Finger Sandwich with Chips and a glass of Coke and really enjoyed it, even with my wife pinching my chips 😀 Great value for money and good customer service.

What an amazing restaurant. They have hosted our wedding celebrations, and Shelley, Nick and their staff made everything so special for us. Place was decorated beautifully, food was amazing, atmosphere was great, and they went an extra mile to make everything run smooth and to make it the most memorable evening for us. We're so happy we could've celebrated there with our families, highly recommended!

Really rather luscious food, great salad with a proper dressing, tidy well kept seating areas. Clean toilets, outdoor seating for my hound as well. Accommodating staff. Really nice little place

Our favourite restaurant in Kendal and we go most weekends. Every meal is wonderful and the variety of specials means that you can try something new and delicious each time. The sausage baguette is my husbands favourite. The staff are so lovely and kind and always ensure we have a lovely time. The restaurant is beautiful with an intersection history. We would highly recommend.

Cosy and quaint cottage vibes. Excellent menu with good vege options. Really friendly staff, it felt like a proper family run establishment, the little girl there provided our 3 year with paper and crayons to keep him happy, and also made him some delicious looking cheese on toast, although it wasn't on the menu. Our vegetarian breakfast was lush, the hospitality food and setting were great, and we would highly recommend it!

If you get the chance take your time to locate this wonderful historic venue tucked away down a ginel off Stramonsgate in heart of Kendal. If you do then, like us during our recent visit, you'll be glad you did. The Joshua Tree is a small family run Café & Bistro nestled in one of Kendals oldest Yards in a historic 16th century building. Here we found a warm welcome, great service and some lovely food at an affordable price. The produce is locally sourced and freshly prepared by the team in the upstairs, small and open kitchen area. The menu is unpretentious but with a great selection of what I would call traditional British fare. The homemade soup of the day was delicious, the vegetarian quiche delightful and the chicken, leek and mushoom pie superb. All served by pleasant and efficient, but not intrusive, staff in a wonderful quirky setting. The low ceilings, nice wood burning stove, and open wooden staircase leading to the upstaurs dining area all help to make this a nice venue for us to enjoy a lovely lunch.

Visited with friends having been on a trip years ago. The place was dark cold and unwelcoming. The waitress who we found out was the owner. Everything seemed to be a trouble for her. We ordered tea and scones!. Won't be returning.

We’ve been coming here for quite sometime now, always very welcomed and accommodated for. Foods always lovely and there no problems if you want to tweak your meal a bit. Would recommend booking on a Saturday as its very busy.

We attended the "Starter and Pudding club" evening which is a great concept - choose any 5 courses from a selection of starters and desserts! We opted for 3 starters and 2 desserts and every single dish was absolutely delicious. The service is always friendly and it is very reasonably priced relative to other local eateries. Would definitely recommend a visit!

Today whilst visiting Kendal we came across this interesting Bistro and had an excellent lunch. The quality of the food / price ratio was extremely good and we enjoyed our freshly prepared, well served meal in pleasant surroundings. Friendly staff and good welcome were much appreciated.

People people people If you like sitting down in what can only be described as gods waiting room then this is perfect for your older relatives the food tasted like it was scrapped up from where dogs frequently went to the loo prisoners have better quality of food the only recommendation I would suggest is to avoid this place like the plague 🤢🤮 The one only decent thing that can be said about this place is the staff are brilliant especially if they have to endure my experience repeatedly it’s those guys I feel sorry for

Without doubt my favourite place in Kendal for when I am having a business lunch. The Rarebit is delicious as is the Club Sandwich, duck confit and Gammon. Friendly staff and excellent chef!

Had lunch outside on a beautiful sunny day. I had the salmon and prawn ciabatta the hubby had prawns, calamari and headless whitebait. I had a non alcoholic larger with lemonade and the bot had rose. The lady who served was lovely. It felt like we were abroad. We went because of the reviews and weren’t disappointed.

Had the coffee and cake option and loved my Scone and Tea all for £5.50. A lovely humerous lady serving with bags of personality. We walked past several tea shops to get to this one bacause we like it. A throw back to when the proprieter actually gives a toss.about the clientele. We are regular non regularlars but we do avoid your competition because we like your style. Cant be easy with the building work goin on.

We absolutely adore the Joshua Tree and go most weekends for our breakfast / brunch. The staff and owners are so friendly and always make us feel so welcome. We go so often that my son has earned the nickname of the ‘honey monster’ as he always has pancakes with honey. The sausage baguette is amazing and my wife enjoys a variety of the meals. Highly recommend

After walking 4 miles from Kendal to Underbarrow we tried to eat at The Black Labrador. Note to self - book ahead as it's a busy place! So a taxi ride back to Kendal and time for breakfast at 2pm!! Warm welcome and an excellent fry up - good meat, and just what we needed before our visit to Kendal Whisky Festival.

After reading on-line reviews of the Joshua Tree I expected something better. The food was great but the service was a bit quirky with a young member of staff not quite getting it right and being corrected by a lady who I presumed to be the business owner. The ambience in the downstairs room is more café than bistro.

We had welsh rarebit and chorizo, basil, cheese on focaccia bread. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.

Proper tasty, friendly (totally normal) people, who on the other side of the counter are funny and laughable. A Starter, Main and Dessert for £23! Unbelievable quality at that price too. We had the Pate & Goats Cheese for starters, I had the Lamb Kofta, Banksy had the Chicken and Serrano Ham Risotto… Walked out 2 hours later, proper stuffed… Thoroughly recommended, best to book to avoid disappointment.

A second visit with a group of friends and by no means the last . Five of us went for lunch ,four different mains selected all excellent .My fish and chips with mushy peas was the best I have ever had in any restaurant or pub- served piping hot and with a lovely crispy batter on the fish .The staff were friendly and the service was prompt and efficient .The place has a cosy and quirky ambience and is an ideal and traditional spot for lunch and is not expensive .Highly recommended .

Tip top service, very amenable surroundings including the décor, super attentive staff BUT the really best bit is just the quality of food and value for money. A real treasure of a place and would heartily recommend to anyone. We had a superb lunch with soft drinks for under £20. There is a Subway close by but just why would you?

Very nice good, we had broccoli & garden pea soup, cheese scone and seabass fillet, all are delicious especially the soup, so creamy but not stuffy. Highly recommended. Btw, too yummy, forgot to take photos for food.

My two sons and I visited Joshua Tree today for lunch , and we absolutely fall in love with this little gem. Everything from service to food was lovely. Boys had two courses from their kids menu and both were very nice, tasty, nicely presented and very generous portions. I had the smoked salmon bagel and again it did not disappoint. The young ladies who served our food were attentive but not over the top and just really friendly. I was also really pleased when the bill was presented to us, it was good value for money. I would definitely recommend this charming place. Thank you guys, we will be back.

Go there regularly on a Friday lunchtime. Nearly always have one of the specials, great food, staff and atmosphere. My favourite dessert is the Brownie, never fails! Breakfasts are excellent also. Highly recommended.

Shelley recently catered for a baby shower for my friend and everything was fantastic. She allowed to us have the whole venue for the event and catered to our (very specific) dietary needs which was really appreciated! Shelley and her team decorated for us and made the restaurant look amazing, the mother to be loved it and we all had a great afternoon. All the guests enjoyed their afternoon teas and left with leftovers as well! We can’t thank you enough for you all you did and for making the day just perfect! Thanks Shelley and all at the Joshua Tree.
