The Smithy Inn in South Lakeland

Me and my friend Darius came here for what we imagined would be a beautiful dinner but little did we know it would be the exact opposite😡!! Firstly we were greeted by an extremely zesty waiter and we ordered some bread for a starter but instead of bringing it to us the waiter kept on saying in the zestiest thickest Yorkshire accent possible, “there’s bread here,” and made poor Darius retrieve it from the stairs🤬🤬! Additionally the butter was oddly white, gloopy and incredibly sticky 🤢🤢🤮 For our main me and Darius shared the notorious davisons cheeseboard of the day 😁😆 but we were disgusted to find the cheese was really smelly crusty and a bit green when we questioned the zesty Waiter he replied by saying he hadn’t cleaned that area for a while 😳! To top this horror show off I saw this poor guy in the toilets getting pumped from behind by a bald man (see 👇 ) Won’t ever return 🤮🤬

Absolute horror ! Me and my boyfriend Kayden went on a date here and my goodness it was disturbingly bad we ordered the pie of the day which was creamy leek pie 🥧 we had never tried it before and wanted to give this local Holme delicacy a go 😋 however the pastry was green and stunk the leeks were hairy and there were odd yellow bits in the pie the cream must’ve expired 😳🤮 When me and kayden went to the bathroom to throw up we were met by two disturbing individuals ( see images ) who were sharing a cubicle and making strange squeals then kayden went to the ladies bathroom as he is accepted into both and was appalled to find what can be described as a revision session gone rogue with these three individuals 😳 Upon fleeing the cursed pub we stumbled across a waiter attempting to stomp on a helpless man 😞 Won’t return 👋👋

Amazing chicken in tarragon and lemon meringue pie. Warm, cosy and welcoming. I would definitely recommend.

Not in Carnforth but rather in Holme, a village some distance to the north. No frills local. Lamentable choice of beers. Food unpretentious and good value. Interior of the bar area is dark and cavernous. We preferred the beer garden.

Brilliant as always...nothing too much trouble

I was firstly greeted with such warmth by one of their youth staff which really edged me for what was yet to come. For one of my dishes I asked for the ‘Davisons Cheeseboard of The Day’ - and well I must say was absolutely mouthwatering! It was such an aesthetically pleasing moment when I placed it within mouth, the cheese almost just disintegrated via the touch of my tongue delicately and the texture, taste and comfort was tip top top of the tree! I will definitely be asking for that again for my next visit to The Smithy Inn (If they don’t run out lol). I decided to come with my beloved Joe (with an E), as we like to sing choirs together, we thought it would be a fantastic idea to welcome fellow customers with a sing song and offer them John 316 merchandise. The reception we received from this by the Holme community was exceptional. One downside of our experience is that a certain ‘D1’ and ‘D2’ were having a fight with each other inside the male toilets. This made me feel extremely uncomfortable and so I asked them to stop, in which they responded by touching me inappropriately. Overall, a brilliant trip to the Smithy Inn and I can’t wait to return another time. Thanks. Paul.

Well well well% Heard such good things about this place LIES. got sat down and ordered a 50/50 loaf but the waiter wouldn't bring it to me and just kept shouting "there bread here" next to the stairs. For my main I had the davison deluxe cream cheese bagel and it was superb the salty texture really complemented the bagel 🥯 For desert I ordered meatballs but only 1 came out 🤬. For entertainment an oap choir came in and started singing the home alone theme tune. It was boring me and I went into the toilets and my waiter was giving somebody from the choir a cream cheese fountain. 5/5 won't be back

It had its ups and downs ! I went with my family of 10 and it started off very well the waiters welcomed us very nicely and sat us down but then they didn’t take our order and instead fed us raw meat with a special white sauce sourced from the pub itself ! The white sauce was very sticky and tasted off and the raw meat was inedible! My eldest yao pong was violently ill and my daughter pang ying yao got impregnated ! Will not be returning

Dreadful !! Went in for what I thought would be a nice meal but was welcomed by a very violent waiter who threatened to whip me (see below) I ordered a burger and was shocked to find it was completely pink with splodges of strange sticky white patches smothered all over it 🤢. Then to top it off a man was using the ladies bathroom to tan which is creepy and utterly disturbing !! 😳

Terrible ! I came here for what I thought would be a pleasant, gourmet lunch but the first problem came when it was revealed there was no schnitzel on the menu !! so I reluctantly settled for soup with a side of cheesy mash however the soup had a strange salty undertone and the cheesy mash tasted and smelled completely off, when I questioned the staff they said the cheese came from the waiters themselves ! And to top it off when I went to the LADIES bathroom I was met by a disturbing MAN in the cubicle !! will never return !

Wow Wow Wow what a horrible day. Firstly I was rudely greeted at the door by a male member of staff. When I was eventually sat down in the corner they took ages to get my drinks😠. Next I needed the toilet and on my way I saw inside the kitchen and I thought I was the cheddar man but this chef was collecting his own cheddar and grating it onto plates🤢. Then this guy kept looking at me strangely(see below)⬇️ won't be returning any time soon😒

Another dreadful experience 🤬. Ordered salmon and marzipan, the salmon came out still moving and the marzipan was moldy. I was disgusted so snuck into the back and was shocked when I saw a scene out of ratatouille, A MOUSE WAS MAKING THE FOOD. The kitchen was in dreadful condition random lakes of liquid everywhere (not sure what it was).

Welcoming pub. No pressure to dress up as everyone there from dressy, casual, biking, wellies, child and pet friendly. Food is excellent as is the service and atmosphere. Would definitely recommend. You visit, advisable to phone and check if you need to book a table, very popular

Amazing Food Five of us have been working at Burton Services and needed a place for our evening meal. Doing some online research I came across the Smithy Inn, Milnthorpe Rd, Holme, Carnforth LA6 1PS. What amazing food they do, we all had different items form the menu and everyone was happy with what they had ordered. I had the Steak pie, having eaten many pies over the years I can say this was the best ever !. Quit often you get lumps of fat and gristle, but the Smithy Pie was just solid perfect meat. On our next visit a few days later I had the Fish & Chips again cooked to perfection. Our team will certainly be going back a few more times over the coming weeks while we are working in the area. What a gem of a Public House and Restaurant, well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Big portion of hot food. Nice building and local walks. Good beers. Variety of menu and special board. Best to book in holidays and weekends. 555 bus Lancaster to Keswick stops outside. Near to M6 junction with A65.

Visited this traditional village pub and the interior wasn't disappointing either. Locals were all standing and sitting by the bar talking. Staff were very welcoming and shown to a table and took our drinks order. Let's get to the food.......we ordered lamb shank that came with mashed potato and a variety of fresh veg and homemade steak pie that was served with homemade chips and a variety of fresh veg (green beans, broccoli and carrots) portions were generous. There was a cake display cabinet by the tables and the cakes looked very tempting apple pie, lemon meringue pie, fudge cake, cheesecake, roulade and more........ unfortunately I was too full to manage a cake. Can't wait to visit here again!

One if not my favourite hostelry. The Landlord Tom and his wife Pam are stupendouse hosts. Pam looks after the food side in a strong and serious manner , whilst Tom is in control of the bar and hospitality second to none. The atmosphere is tremendous , and the warmth , unequalled.

First time in really good service and meals.

We were recommended to try the Sunday Lunch at the Smithy Inn. The food was okay, no complaints, but it wasn't stunning as I'd been led to believe. The staff were very lovely though and we enjoyed the atmosphere. To improve my rating I would need a much tastier gravy......

Warm,friendly and welcoming and great service and food

Came her to do the pub quiz with my family, had a really great time. Didn't order any food so can't say anything about that, but there was a good selection of drinks and the staff was really friendly. We had a really fun night and can't wait to return to do it again.

Early evening meal on Sunday. Landlord super friendly. Meal served quickly. I had the small plate but this was an ample portion. Good value for money.

We popped in here on the off chance they would allow our 3 dogs. They were more than welcoming and the food was amazing.

Great food here, no fancy nonsense just honest wholesome food with great ingredients. Very traditional British pub with very cosy, great for a drink with friends or family. Friendly owner and staff.

Loved it here I was very dubious when I entered as its very old fashioned and felt a bit intimidating cause everyone knew each other but we were made to feel welcome and the food was amazing I ordered Sunday dinner and it was perfect there was actually too much meat for me but not for my partner I dont say that often I hope this never changes cause it would lose that old school type pub but I got more for my money here than I would in a restaurant I was so impressed

It's just objectively the best roast beef. It's amazing.

Found this place nearly a year ago and stopped over recently for food. Did not disappoint, good menu, reasonable prices. Cake fridge looks good. Food was hot and plentiful. When we placed our order we were told straight away it would be a while. The gentleman kept us informed about the order. Not too far a detour from the M6.

Called in on the off chance of a table for 4 at lunchtime. The pub was busy. I asked the 'gentleman ' behind the bar if they had a free table and his answer was 'No we havent' and looked away. I was taken aback at his rudeness. The food may be good but I won't be back to try it if this is an example of how potential customers are treated.

A nice treat with all the family

Called in on the off chance couldn't have been more helpful as they were very busy managed to get us a table for 4, not a long wait for the food to arrive and it was piping hot and real value for money 2 of us had hot roast beef baguette with onions and gravy melt in the mouth beef will visit again without a doubt.

Found this place by accident and we were very hungry lol, the food was absolutely fabulous and very generous portions, we had the Sunday roast and would recommend it very strongly.

Very nice pub extremely friendly staff. We had a Sunday roast £11.95 excellent value plenty of thick cut meat. Only disappointment being charged for soda water being 66years old it's only the second time ever this has happened. As we were buying other drinks beer and coke plus food I think it's wrong to be charging for this. I agree of that's all a family orders it's different. It's not so much the cost but printable. I covered it by reducing the £5 tip I left to £4. Other than that a really nice place to stop.

Stumbled across this place when away for New Year. Log fire, pool table and friendly staff. We had kids from 3 to 11 and they were very accommodating. Best part of our break for me.

Fabulous country pub. Our first visit. Beautiful building with large car park. Easy to find. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Beautifully decorated, well lit, laid out and clean. Varied menu with specials as well. Homemade steak pie with chips and veg was delicious and well priced. Would highly recommend a visit. We will be returning.

Visited last night, a meal for 6. The atmosphere is great when you walk in, really warm & friendly. The bar staff are the best you'll ever see, brilliant. Great choice of beers, really lovely food, all home cooked, all great value for money. The landlord & landlady are ever present, the whole thing's a real joy. well done everyone, only sorry that we live 30 miles away & you're not our local- great job!

Had lamb roast and lamb shank. Meat was lovely and tender but veggies cooked to death and mash sticky and hard to swallow. Terrible wines, stick to beer with your meal.

Returning after a while, we were pleased to see a jolly busy village pub as they finished evening food and the quiz that followed had scarcely an empty table. It's a delight to see a very popular local pub offering a good range of food and drink....at family-friendly prices, so well hosted by Tom, family and team.

Sunday lunch as part of a large group. Great quality roast lamb. Vegetables could have been a bit better, roast potatoes needed a bit longer in the oven. Excellent service especially with so many people to cater for.

I visited the Smithy today with a party of 13 for my boyfriend’s birthday. Food was excellent and all my party complimented on how good the food was.The service was brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend the Smithy.

Excellent home made food at a very high standard love it.

Just went with my family as it was recommended by the local travalodge, however they refused our service with little to no customers inside using the excuse of saying "you have to book" despite their apparent lack of booking facilities and prevalence of customers inside. There is no booking on the website available all of this is despite a sign on the outside offering food all day and a "friendly atmosphere" and as such have come to the conclusion we was refused service due to our race, as they was no other races represented at the facility.

Proper local with great beers and quality food. Wish it was in my village!

Staying in nearby Crooklands and Smithy Inn was recommended for evening meal. Very good. Will call in again on our next visit from N Ireland.
