Proper, great tasting homemade food at an even better price!! Popped in for an evening meal whilst staying in the area and wasn't disappointed. There were 3 of us and although we hadn't booked in advance it wasn't a problem. Lots of choice on the menu (classic and pub favourites) but went for the fisherman's pie which was delicious followed by crumble and custard. Good portion size and both came in under £20! Can't comment on the rooms as didn't stay but pub was clean and welcoming with a good range of drinks. Worth a visit if staying in the area or passing through

So after reading the reviews it was a pub of choice for me and my friends, the youngest being 50, the eldest 63. We were told quite bluntly that no large groups would be served here (6of us). Well so much for northern hospitality, we went and spent our money elsewhere. 😡

Zero stars from me,was on a tour of the lakes and dales, stayed at the premier inn ulverston which I must say is a great place to stay, Was refused a drink in the stan laurel because I was with a group of 6 other guys, reason was we don't serve groups!! We wasn't rowdy at all ,our age group was 50 to 64! On a sightseeing weekend on 2 wheels, jus wanted a couple of pints and a chat!!!. Found some lovely and more friendly pubs just up the road. My advice is steer clear of the stan laurel inn and go further up the road you'll get a far better reception

I was looking for somewhere for us to have tea online to book. I knew I would have to book somewhere and glad I did. I used Trip Advisor to help find this place and used the reviews. We were going to use the trains to navigate our way around this long weekend away unfortunately the train drivers decided we needed to drive! The food was great. They even have a cask beer named after Stan Laurel which was good and I wasn't surprised when the staff told me where the beer was brewed. Highly recommended, but booking is advisable. I'm not sure we would have got a seat if we hadn't.

Visited while on holiday this year, very generous size food portions, very tasty and friendly staff. I had the ‘famous’ lasagna which was very tasty. We enjoyed it so much we came back a couple of nights later. Again the beef pie was very good. All tasted homemade. My wife is a vegetarian and had no problem finding something on the menu. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for somewhere for dinner in the area. Car park is small but we found on street parking round the corner.

I went for a meal with friends at the Stan Laurel for the first time in five years; and, from memory, it was better than ever. The Main Courses were all a mouth watering, tempting prospect, as were the female staff members. They, and the young man waiting-on were alert and keen to help and were not just 'going through the motions.' The food was delicious. There was nothkng on the menu that I would not have gladly tried. I went to pay for my two courses. I am still baffled as to how it came-in under twenty quid?

A friend kindly took me out for lunch at this pub that she highly recommended. I'm not usually a pub person, but this one surprised me with its safe, laid back, homely style. The food was superb with a good range of classics, plus a bit more excitement. I had the South African bobotie, which I hadn't eaten since I lived there 38 years ago. It tasted exactly as I remembered it, and the owner told me they had learnt the recipe from SA staff with whom they still keep in touch, which showed a really nice employment style too. Although our table was booked for 6-30pm we didn’t sit down at our table until 7pm- it was so lovely in front of the fire . We weren’t rushed to our table - and as a result felt so relaxed and at ease . It’s s gorgeous pub- full of character with beams and very friendly owners and staff. The menu was extensive with an excellent specials board including individual filled Yorkshire puddings - which my husband declared absolutely delicious. The Stan Laurel Inn is a lovely pub just a couple of hundred yards from the small terraced house in which he was born in 1890. The house is in Argyle Street and has a plaque on the wall, so is easy to spot. The pub is a really cosy place with real fire, exposed ceiling beams, old wooden pillars and the like. It is furnished in traditional style and, as you might suspect, is full of Laurel and Hardy memorabilia. Rather than being touristy, this is obviously a local pub and the atmosphere was relaxed and very nice. The service and ales were also top class and this is easily one of the best pubs in Ulverston.

I actually do love this pub but unfortunately last night 10/3/23 I arrived at 20:25 after booking into my B&B ,hoping for a bite to eat and a few drinks as I’d been travelling since 12:00 and was very hungry, was very disappointed to be told the kitchen was shut even though there was sign’s everywhere saying food til 21:00.the chef was still on site I saw him leave at 21:10 so I’m sure he could have tussled something up there’s nothing on the menu that would take a long time to cook and to be honest if he’d have given me a limited choice I would have accepted that , but instead I ended up with a few drinks and some nuts from the bar. It did say the owners where away in annual leave so It’s not there fault, other than that a lovely pub with a good ambience and menu just a shame I couldn’t try it.

My partner and I had eaten here on previous occasions and enjoyed the food and quiet ambience of the place .Our dinner last night was ,however , very ordinary .The portions of all courses were skimpy with the mains in particular requiring far more vegetables to accompany them .The breads accompanying the amuse bouches were dull and the butter with them too soft and tasteless . A disappointing experience .

What a lovely place! Had to stop off to get some puddings from the heart of where they are from. A gorgeous little village and so nice to be able to support them direct instead of buying from a big chain like we usually do.

Stopped here for lunch and I had the hunters chicken ciabatta with sweet potato fries. It was very nice indeed. My only complaint was that I got a bone in the chicken which I was going to point out but no-one came to us to ask how our meal was or to take our dishes away, the staff were upstairs as it was closing time and they were clearing up (I assume). When we went to pay for it the girl didn't ask if everthing was ok or how our meal was so I didn't bother saying anything. It didn't stop me from enjoying my meal or my time spent here.

First visit tonight and it won't be our last. Scrumptious, plentiful food. Pleasant, attentive staff.
