A cracking pub where the landlord is as passionate about whisky as he is about beer. Covers all bases whatever you drink if you like quality. Certainly a good venue for 🍺 tickers. I’m on Awakening Pale ~ brewed locally by Lakes Brew.

Bit of a diamond in the rough, relative to the pubs in Kendal. The best pub we visited during our stay. Had to go back again on our last night of the holiday in fact! Great music, great atmosphere, great staff, great pub.

Visited this pub a few times whilst staying in Kendal. Really good atmosphere inside with a good range of beers. If you like whisky then this is the place. We had a great chat with Phil about various whiskies especially English ones, his knowledge is wonderful. Well worth a visit.

Making my first proper visit to Kendal for beer tasting. Came with Albrecht, our German gopher. This pub is a CAMRA Good beer guide regular. Four real ales. Two new ones for me, Westmorland brewery and Lakes brewery. Now getting close to ticking off all Cumbrian breweries. Proper pub. Philip also keeps a huge range of whiskies, a hobby he has official qualifications in. Also a good cider pub. Great visit. Car park turned into a beer patio.

Great pub near the centre of town with a fantastic selection of whisky! Occasional food trucks on site, it was Three Little Pigs burgers today!

Very welcoming pub, good local beer, fireplace and good embroidery entertainment, music court and the Wednesday quiz very well signed by the Frenchman who manages the fires 😁😍

Had a fantastic time at this traditional pub on Saturday with such a fantastic atmosphere great cask ales whisky to wonder at just drink there are so many it must be a world of opportunity for those who enjoy the tipple. Wonderful Band on too Will come again suggest you visit to. It’s one pub not to miss on any visit to Kendal or even if nearby.

We came over for a football match at Kendal Town and was invited by Phil to pop in his pub after the game, Phil went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and part of a special atmosphere, great beers, great band and only round the corner from where we were staying at the Premier Inn. Can’t thank Phil enough for the welcome.

We were there for the Belgium beer festival. Great selection of beers. They normally have a good selection anyway. Longer it Feels like s proper local

Visiting Kendal for a couple of nights and looked up pubs doing a quiz. We saw that The New Union was listed. We were pleasantly surprised how warm and welcoming it was. Didn't do well in the quiz but thoroughly enjoyed it. Will certainly be returning.

Booked for dinner. On arrival (a Saturday) they told me that they do not serve food on that day. Had not bothered to phone and alert me. Atmosphere and beer good.

Lovely little pub with speciality ales and ciders The owner specialises in whiskeys massive selection and great knowledge of his obvious love.

Menu was basic, waited 50 minutes for a very average meal. No updates and no warning that it would take longer than usual. Only positive was 2 people got steak pie and it was full of meat, barely any pastry but very generous on the steak.

If you like quality real ales, this pub will not disappoint, the place itself it very welcoming, the beers are superb and varied, it has won several awards over the years apparently, it's just off the beaten track, a little out of town centre, but do check it out, in my opinion it is easily in the top three of Kendal's many pubs.

Friendly helpful staff but meals bland and steak pie pastry was two thin pieces burned pastry-was disappointed as staff were really nice. Didnt want make fuss so didnt complain. ....may have been a one-off regarding pastry.

Fantastic range of traditional ciders on a menu, the cask ale on the pumps was a good choice of four different styles. Lots of space on around 20 standard size picnic tables at the side under marquees, didn't try the food but it looked like modern street style (I think spicy chicken wings and vegan burger was on the Saturday menu). The men's toilets could do with some thought or refurb - something to bare in mind if you are sensitive about that sort of thing, apparently the ladies is small but fine. Bar staff were really friendly, nice and helpful. Will definitely return when next in Kendal.

Beer good, but couldnt help notice a plague of flys on glsses above the bar.

Called on a quiet day, so can only rate the meal which was very nice

Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant..what a pub . What great stock of whisky from the lakes to India to Japanese. Probably the best stock of The Lakes Whisky available in the UK even some very rare drams including Whisky Makers Reserve 2-4 malts and the very very rare Le-Gautier which was only available at Harvey Nicols and would set you back £350+ a bottle if you can find one . There was I drinking one in a pub what a find. What a star find of a pub . Great pub Great atmosphere recommended 5 star... and some whiskys that are 10

The New Union.. Me and my friends call it the new Onion, after tastin their beer.!! Quite revolti ng compared to the barrel,which is obviously freshly brewed.! The owner, would not take the view we had on his out of date tasting beer, he angrily insisted it was best in town.. However, we had not experienced the quality he protested and left after one sour tasting pint. We went to tesco for some beer instead. Id give it as wide birth and enjoy some of the finer micro brewerys in town .!

Amazing, homely, friendly establishment. Wide variety of all drinks for all tastes. Really enjoyed my visit, superb staff and landlord. Brilliant customer service. Loved it. Can't wait for opening, dying for a proper pint.
