Food, Beverage and Staff are excellent. Not the cheapest place but you get what you pay for...however delighted with our first visit and stay but disappointed about them running out of Yorkshire Puddings on Sunday for lunch, never had Muffins for breakfast on 3 separate days and all the Bed Pillows are far too hard. However would definitely visit again and class this venue as a hidden gem in the area....plenty of parking but be aware of certain height restrictions when inside :)

The food was amazing! The atmosphere in the pub was really nice, and the setting beautiful. The staff were brilliant, fitting us in with no booking, and were attentive, but without being intrusive like you can find in some places. The treat jar for the dogs was a really nice touch. We booked a table online and paid £5 per head to reserve the table for Sat eve. Unfortunately, due to a family member feeling unwell, we had to cancel, which we did, a full 36hrs before the reservation on the Friday morning, before leaving for Windermere, so that they could at least fill that table if needed. We rang the Queens Head to say sorry for cancelling the evening reservation but we'd like to eat earlier and could we rebook for lunchtime instead The lady, should've got her name, said 'of course, what time' we said about 1pm and would the £20 already paid reserve the table? The lady replied 'No!' that money is now gone as we'd cancelled the later reservation!!! I beg your pardon, so we're still coming, just earlier in the day and this £20 won't be refunded against this earlier reservation we asked? No, you've cancelled, you've lost your £20 now. The lady then said, so, what time do you want to book for lunch? To that we replied, are you kidding? You've literally taken £20 from us for nothing and now you want us to waste even more of our hard earned money with you? No thank you, we'll take our money elsewhere in Windermere. We could understand if we were cancelling altogether but we weren't, just eating earlier on the same day!!! What an absolutely disgraceful policy the Queens Head has when you pay a deposit online and then need to amend it to a more suitable time. Shame on you Queens Head. At least Dick Turpin had the audacity to wear a mask when he robbed people. Do not book online folks as they will keep your money even when you want to change your reservation. In fact, if that's what they are like before you've even set for in the place, heaven help you should you have an issue with the service or food on the day. I see the reply from the Queens Head, it seems they are missing the point entirely, we cancelled online so that they could resell the table for Sat eve, we then called when they opened to rebook for an earlier time slot. The lady that answered was adamant that we'd lost our deposit and refused POINT BLANK to carry it over to an earlier booking on the SAME DAY!!! You obviously needed the £20 more than we did Queens Head and refusing to simply carry the £20 over to an earlier booking for us was and is a disgraceful way to run a business. As we said, we could understand if we were a total no show. We actually went to eat at another Robinsons Brewery pub, The Mason's Arms, where we were able to book online, no deposit req'd and the staff, service and food were absolutely spot on. Maybe the Queens Head need to follow the Mason's Arms lead and allow customers to book a table without a deposit.

Beautiful pub, with such a warming atmosphere! We were welcomed by the young barman with glasses who gave us a great laugh and suggested some good beers. The food came quickly and was excellent, all at a reasonable price. A thoroughly enjoyable dining experience and we will definitely be back. (They allowed the use of their car park whilst on our walk - which was also helpful). Addendum - visited twice again in last 14 days (September), the food and the service remains excellent, the staff serving our party were always efficient, friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. Nothing was too much trouble for us or our dog, who even got sausage at breakfast!! The room we were in was great. We note a slight negative to this below but its a preference and is due to the nature if the building. Even though, we would stay again in this room and absolutely will be staying again in the future.

Situated in the small hamlet of Troutbeck, yet incredibly well frequented. There are good reasons for this! This pub/restaurant is so cosily furnished, the food is so delicious and special and, most importantly, the service team is so friendly and open that you really do feel at home. That is ‘cosy’! We hadn't made a reservation (which I recommend to everyone), and yet the team made it possible for us to stay for dinner - two times... So two wonderful evenings made us for an unforgettable end to our holiday in the Lake District. Many thanks to the team at the Queens Head!

Initial thoughts of review It is not in my nature to write a review, but in this case, as you have asked us to write one, myself and wife feel strongly in the interest of those who are not particularly fond of dogs to give a warning. Firstly, I must inform you that we are Senior Citizens, experienced worldwide travellers, plus over the past 15 years I am a regular visitor to the lakes, staying and walking with a five member group. So this review will not be based on a first time visit but a general knowledge of what to expect. This review will not criticize the quality of the hotel or any member of staff. The 'Queens Head Hotel' was recommended to us several years ago for the quality and especially the food. As my 75th birthday fast approached, and loving the Lakes, I was given the choice to select a venue where I would like to stay for a three day break. I chose your 'Queens Head Hotel'. Absolute Positive The Hotel has been renovated to a top quality, with all furniture, rooms, bar side and outdoor being of exceptional quality. If not a little over crowded in some areas. Our room was spacious, excellently furnished with a dressing table and plenty of clothes hangers (my wife's biggest grouse). The cleanliness was unquestionable and the towels in the bathroom were a luxury coupled with fresh milk in the thermal flasks spot on. Unfortunately, the rooms are lit with very low light bulbs which are very relaxing, albeit not to my wife who finds it difficult to make up. I really think there should be at least one bright light available for the dressing table. Our first evening meal was 'Fish and chips for two' . Excellent and good value. My choice for my first breakfast was a bacon sandwich. The bacon was lean and had been grilled to perfection, All was to our satisfaction at this point. Point of Disappointment The evenings meal was so disappointing, the quality of the cooking seemed to have plummeted, My wife's vegetables were over cooked and 'Catch of the day', which she always orders, was only forked through but mainly left. Our breakfast next day, seemed to have been fried in fat and was greasy, the mushroom was over cooked and soaked in fat, considering we were one of the first people down for breakfast. The next evening meals were over cooked and god knows what the vegetables were that came with my 'Steak and Ale Pie', they looked liked yesterdays sautéed carrots and turnips leftovers. I questioned the assistant if it was a different chef from the day before but she denied it. For our last breakfast we just chose toast and coffee as we had a long journey. 'Not Your Problem but Ours' Our Biggest Bone of Contention (Sorry but it's a bit of a pun) Whilst we were aware of the hotel as being a 'Doggie' Hotel, we did not realize to what extent. So this a 'WARNING' if you are not a 'Doggie' person; this is not the venue for you. It's quite apparent that that our canine friends are better treated than us. There are treats and 'Dog Menu's' everywhere, nine out of ten rooms are dog friendly. We chose the 'Sitting Room' for my celebration evening meal (Which sits ten persons on four tables), however, on being shown to our seats we found a couple with two large Retriever dogs, who had obviously been walking in the rain and the stench was obnoxious. On their departure I pointed out to the waitress/assistant that there was a carpet of dog hairs coating the floor . After the staff cleaned the floor and the next party were shown to their seats it included yet another dog that had apparently been joining the family on a Fell walk. Consequently the air was refreshed by yet another odour of 'DOG'! And finally, The one thing that I objected to was to watch staff stroke some of these dogs and then watch them serve up meals. In conclusion, a once only visit for us but probably a relief to you that we will not be returning.

Beautiful venue but a whole host of wedding problems. We got married at Broadoaks in November and had problems almost from the time of booking. When we reached out to the venue to come to a resolution we were offered a free of charge one night stay which when compared to the list of problems we experienced does not match up. When we highlighted that we had not received multiple things that were in the contract we were told that this wasn't their problem as the contract was with the previous owners and not themselves, although the contract states 'Broadoaks' and no specific owners. Please see below for the list of problems. - When we were sent the contact the price was £750 morethan what was agreed, Broadoaks stated this was an 'error' and corrected it. - After booking and confirming everything Broakoaks stated that the times they had advised for the ceremony and the evening were not compatible. - We sought clarification from Broadoaks that we would have exclusive use and allow for set up time, this didn't happen and subsequently we struggled to set up due to stragglers from the day before. - We were advised that there was on site parking for 100 cars, this isn't true and includes local lanes. - 9 months before the wedding we received an email stating that the price of food packages would be increasing, despite us having in writing that this wouldn't be happening. - there was often delays in confirming that deposits have been received. - When we added the garden suites onto the booking, once again the price was incorrect on the contract. - 2 days before the wedding we received several phone calls from the venue confirming things that we had submitted on paperwork weeks prior that we had been rushed to submit because of the coordinator going on holiday. * Day of wedding Problems * - When the groom arrived the member of staff was rude to the groom when he queried why there was still the wedding party from the previous day on site. - The retreat had been booked for the bride to get ready, it was not ready and the Bride had to wait on the drive for 30 minutes with guests arriving, despite the plan for getting the key being discussed at length in the planning meetings. The staff never brought the key down. - The floors of the retreat were covered in bleach water which discoloured both the bride's dress and the wedding shoes. - The groom's getting ready room was also not ready for 1300 despite being one of the 'guaranteed' rooms. - Halfway through the day the wedding coordinator changed to someone the bride and groom had never met, this caused multiple problems, including not enough cake being served. Several Guests questioned if this was the first wedding this coordinator had ever done. - Staff were stretched over multiple areas, leaving the guests having to ring a bell to summon bar staff and waiting for a while to check in. - When the staff cleared up the Brides veil got stuffed into a box with the cake knife and dirty cake decor, damaging it and staining it. - One of our guests had severe hazelnut allergy, this was highlighted in EVERY planning meeting we were assured that there would be no hazelnuts on site. There was Nutella served at breakfast. This caused the bride and the groom having to rush to collect it before anyone opened it. - the personalised news of the day and order of the day was not provided at all despite being in the contract.
