Highly recommend a visit. Great ales on sale. Cozy friendly atmosphere with a beer garden out the back. Parking, front and rear of pub although limited at the front definitely will go back

Great old style pub and a great place for a beer and a wine, there is a fantastic selection of very well presented ales and wines, I really enjoy the beer garden, its comfy and well laid out, and even better now it's been paved, really good prices. Friendly attentive owner and staff, your always made to feel welcome and hardly a wait to get served. Great atmosphere, well done guys.

This is a good real ale pub in Ulverston friendly place and has a small front room at the bar This pub is suffering through Covid 19 When I visited it on the 4the November 2020 It had only 1 hand pump ale and 1 hand pumped cider on sadly Saturday 2nd April 2022 i again came to this place a lot better it had 3 home brewed great handpumped ales on the pub had a great local following watching Rugger on tv the outdoor drinking area and staff equally lovely From 4 stars tova deffo 5 stars given today Saturday 24th, february 2024 Again, we visited this essential visit when drinking real in Ulverstone Yhis cosy small 2 roomed pub brewes 2 real ale beers on always /one mild one light beer/ This pub has a lovely landlady and landlord. This pub has 5 hand pumps on I can't give this place enough stars

Great little place, lovely people, nice beer, great pork pies!

Went in at opening time, welcomed by friendly pleasant girl behind the bar Dog friendly and a few ales to choose from We had clearly sat in some of the older locals usual spots so a few discerning glances and no chat from them took edge of a nice visit They moved into our seats before we were out of the door!

Second visit. Staff member uninterested and the telly on in the lounge with no one watching. Still a nice place but could be much better with a little care.

Hit & miss staff, some are not so friendly. They are dog friendly if what your dog is doing suits them!! Nice garden

Perfectly fine place, nice drunks and a fine beer garden. Wasn't too busy Food wise they only sell snacks and such, no proper meals sadly.

We've been to the Old Friends several times & most recently we called in yesterday & spent a pleasant couple of hours in the beer garden. It was a lovely sunny afternoon, good selection of beers for the drinkers.

Old Friends is a little off the town centre so comes across very much as a local pub. It has a very cosy main bar, complete with real fire, but as it is rather small we were relegated to the room next door which is smart, but feels a bit like ….. well, a room really. It was pleasant enough, but with no atmosphere, hardly anyone else there, and only a hint of the cheerful hubbub coming from the bar, it felt a tad flat. It’s all about timing I suppose and, fingers crossed, there will be room in the bar next time, because this is clearly a cracking little pub.

Great little local pub,often overlooked by visitors to Ulverston. It serves good ale with real fires in winter and a good beer garden that gets the sun in summer. Definitely worth a visit.

Nice friendly pub .wasnt that keen on the porter beer but I guess it's an acquired taste . Staff were very welcoming

It was the small sign at the foot of the hill that drew us to this pub, especially as it also listed it as being a brewery. We were greeted by a lovely man behind the bar and very entertaining regulars who were really fun to talk to. The beer was well kept and their own 5.2% Porter was really good.. I liked this place so much I even bought the t shirt!! Thank you all for making us feel so welcome.

A lovely little pub, with a TARDIS of a beer garden and 5 minutes walk from the centre of Ulverston. A good selection of well kept beers (which I assume rotate frequently), a warm welcome and friendly service and a nice atmosphere. What's not to like!

Hidden gem in Ulverston. Visited here for the first time with friends. Met by a friendly owner who actually brought us drinks to the table! The beer garden is nicely tucked away to the rear of the pub. The best part was the beer line up, such a breath of fresh air not to see Carling or Strongbow in a pub. Wainwright Keg was a real cracker! Thanks.

I specifically visited to watch Sky Football and was a little disappointed when the volume on the coverage was poor. However, I enjoyed good cask beer in a friendly atmosphere!!

Had a great time here, far cheaper than the sun and nicer beer garden, bar staff were super friendly even though my card wouldn't work for unknown reasons, would definitely go back

A pub as it should be - not been Designer uplifted. Lots of seating in the beer garden - well kept beer - scotch pies available (Cumbrian alternative to tapas).

Lovely pint in a friendly and inviting pub. Would most definitely return. This type of pub is a dying breed which is tragic and must be supported at all costs. Real ale and real people.

We visited Old Friends after being let down by The Rose & Crown (see separate review). We thought we would have a quick pint before returning to our apartment. How wrong could we be! One became 3 and with reluctance we left...we were starving! The Beer was excellent, the locals friendly and the lady who served us was great. This is a place to return to, I highly recommend the in house brewed mild!

Great little boozer on the edge of town. Shipyard, San Miguel on draft enough said.....oh and decent prices as well. Get yourself there.

Lovely outside dog friendly space

Popped in on first day open after lockdown. Nice selection of cakes , and pies at weekends. Busy in the lovely sunny beer garden. Excellent choice of beers,ciders ,gins and whisky. All in a covid safe and secure feeling atmosphere.

We came to visit this very unique pub situated the top of Soutergate hill. The staff were on the ball all night getting people in and out and making sure the place was kept spotless. Simon was one of the guys that stood out, very accommodating and made us feel welcome. We sat in the beautiful beer garden at the back, were undercover seating was made for our use and it was a lovely sun trap for the later in the evening sun. The drinks were quite reasonable and there as a good choice of wine, beers ciders and ales. Think it was one of the better pubs we visited on Saturday. We will be back, very well recommended

Great pub situated on the way out of town., but only a couple of hundred yards up from the Big Kings. Tastefully decorated, frequented by friendly welcoming locals & staff. Stocks a top range of beers (included own beers brewed on site) three Internal rooms, a warm bar, a longer lounge room and a grumpy old sod room. Make this pub feature on your destination list

Best pub in Ulverston full stop. Also has the nicest garden out the back. Five minute walk from centre and at a price that a pint should cost. A must go!

Warm welcome, superb beer, lovely surroundings, sun trap beer garden. It's like the tardis, looks small from the outside but spacious inside. Sports events on the big screen and pub quiz on Tuesdays. Highly recommended

Much, much bigger inside than you think. Lovely people running it and now they have their own brewery (pretty sure it wasnt there when we came before). Beer is brilliantly well looked after, the owner took real pride in telling us about them. Love it.

Great friendly pub. (All ages; what a pub should be) Excellent beer choice. We had been to the pub when visiting my daughter. Pleased to introduce her to it on a subsequent visit and she liked it as well. Regulars mix with visitors and everyone made to feel friendly. Also dog friendly and good beer garden. Hosts mingled with guests later in the evening. A nice touch; we will be back.
