The Mason's Arms has always been one of my favorite eateries, but unfortunately, our small family group had a very disappointing Sunday roast lunch yesterday. We each chose a different roast—beef, turkey, and gammon—but all shared similar thoughts: the beef was chewy and tough, the turkey was underwhelming, and the gammon/beef combination failed to impress. What surprised me most was the roast potatoes—they were hard and tasteless. Surely, any chef should be able to prepare a delicious roast, and perfectly cooked roast potatoes should be a given! While we’ve enjoyed good meals here before and the staff, especially the lovely female server, were as friendly as ever, we all agreed that we wouldn’t return for Sunday lunch. It’s such a shame, especially as this was a rare family outing. P.S. No one asked if we had enjoyed our meal—otherwise, we would have shared this feedback directly.

We found this place by accident while put looking for something for lunch. It's a beautiful cosy pub that also does accommodation. There was a fire in the bar area making it very cosy. There were quite a few people coming in as we were at our table. There were just 2 members of staff greeting people, showing them to their tables, taking drinks and food orders, serving the food, taking payments from quests who were leaving. It was clear that they were understaffed, but the service was absolutely amazing and with a smile....there was a really good feel to the place. The food was delicious and the menu had a great choice.

We recently stayed here for a 50th wedding anniversary celebration. It couldn't have been more perfect, from the location with its breathtaking views, friendly staff, warm atmosphere, great food and drinks and especially the fact they make dogs so welcome too. The rooms were beautiful, clean and just a joy to be in. The waitress blew my mind by remembering all of our meal orders (8 in total) for dinner without writing it down! The food was absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection. In the morning we had breakfast which was gorgeous. A selection of cereals, croissants, juices and then a cooked breakfast. We had 2 dogs with us and they were given the option to have a sausage for breakfast, which was cut up and in a bowl each. All in all a perfect get away. We would all highly recommend visiting, especially for a nights stay. Thank you team, we will be back!

We stayed two nights to break up a journey home from Scotland to London. This was on a friend’s recommendation. We stayed in Cartmel Fell Suite. A short outside walk to a lovely duplex room. King bed upstairs and bathroom, shower over bath, and lounge downstairs. Great room, comfy bed, super views. All staff were friendly and welcoming. We ate both nights in the Arms. A lovely menu, good and varied choices. Well cooked, nicely presented and big portions. Very enjoyable. Also a hearty breakfast with good ‘cooked’ options. The Arms provides three walking routes of various lengths and difficulty. We did the short one adding extra distance as we went along. Very enjoyable, beautiful scenery. We have one observation. In bed with the window above open, you can hear everything, and I mean everything, from the adjacent room. Conversations, ‘sounds’, movement. Otherwise, we totally recommend the Arms.

Family group of 6 Called here on the off chance as we were staying local for a night. Called at 6.30pm and we arrived at 7pm, drinks are reasonably priced on arrival. I had the Belly port for dinner, not a large plate of food. However, it was beautiful and the belly port fell apart in my mouth just right. The bacon cheese burger was demolished by my son who said it tasted really good, The fish and chips was HUGE! no complaints and the mac n cheese kids menu was plenty and again tasted great. My parents had gammon, they said it was a little dry but when I tasted it, I could taste the natural salt in the gammon and was lovely. (Maybe more that they expected) The service was 5* I couldn't fault the whole night out 1 bit. Eith a fee drinks full total bill for everyone was around £115 Well done to your whole team.

We had a lovely Sunday roast here on our first night in the Lake District. The staff were very friendly and the views were wonderful. The yorkshire puddings were massive and the veg/chicken very nice. The only negative for us was we thought the desserts were overpriced for the size, especially as the roasts were huge and seemed cheaply priced! Would charge more for the mains and less for the puddings.

This is the second time we’ve stayed at The Masons Arms and it certainly won’t be the last! We never tend to rebook places as we like to explore, but whenever visiting the Lake District we can’t imagine staying anywhere else. It’s perfectly positioned in a gorgeous setting that’s quiet but only 10 minutes from Windermere. The whole building is extremely well kept and decorated gorgeously. We found this little gem for Sunday lunch whilst staying in the lakes. Tucked away in an idyllic green valley, we found it to be a period, welcoming, little hostelry for both people and pets. The staff were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and with can do personalities. The menu was comprehensive but not lengthy or complicated, Sunday lunch of roast beef, belly pork, or chicken is definitely NOT to be missed, absolutely amazing, and such a good portion at a great price. The selection of wines, spirits, and cask ales is fabulous. The advertised accommodation is lovely, we will certainly stay next time we visit (need to try the lakeland breakfast and enjoy the views). We enjoyed a superb family dining experience, the staff were great even though they said there was a staff shortage, well done 'Team Masons Arms' you are amazing and provide a wonderful culinary experience.

The Masons Arms saved the weekend for us. Absolutely brilliant. I have read the negative reviews of this place and I just don't see what people are talking about? The place is lovely, the rooms are luxurious, the staff are so friendly, the food is delicious. There is a small amount of parking available at the back of thw pub as well. All facilties are very clean. We called up a few hours before we needed a room, (apologies I can not remember the lady's name who we spoke to) and we were sorted. Everyone was just the absolute best and we could take the dogs with us (additional charge per dog per night). The food was a tad on the expensive side but honestly it was so delicious. My partner had breakfast the following day, which looked as good as the food from the night before. We absolutely will be staying here again if we need accommodation in the Lake District.

Strangely only only ONE other couple in the place when I went in… Ordered an IPA which must have been sitting in the pipes and the first one pulled ?!? Luke warm and flat… When I asked for a menu as we might eat was told sorry fully booked !! What more do you need to know …. Lost its’ sense of purpose of being a friendly and accommodating pub and quality of ales..Shan’t ever be back.

We had an excellent stay at The Briery - the food was amazing, staff were all very friendly and room was 1st class. Not taking anything away from our stay but if I had one tiny criticism it would be that the dining room furniture wasn't up to the same standard as the rest of the hotel - apparently waiting for an upgrade

Stopped here for lunch and I had the hunters chicken ciabatta with sweet potato fries. It was very nice indeed. My only complaint was that I got a bone in the chicken which I was going to point out but no-one came to us to ask how our meal was or to take our dishes away, the staff were upstairs as it was closing time and they were clearing up (I assume). When we went to pay for it the girl didn't ask if everthing was ok or how our meal was so I didn't bother saying anything. It didn't stop me from enjoying my meal or my time spent here.
