Festive afternoon tea- Beautiful location even on a grey day. Every person that worked there was friendly, polite and attentive . The entrance area and reception is charming with its panelled walls fire and arms chairs. The music room was really cosy with its tartan carpet, comfy chairs, roaring fire and lit Christmas tree. The bar area also looked very snug. The dining room in comparison was very white and lacked Christmas warmth and colour. The windows had slatted blinds which meant you couldn’t enjoy the views. Afternoon tea itself was delicious , lots of different things to try. Just like others have mentioned it defeated us. We took the leftovers home. Can’t fault the food, location just lacked warmth in the dining room compared to the rest of the place that was utterly charming.

We had Afternoon tea there last Friday. One of the best we have ever had. The staff were very friendly and accommodating to ensure we enjoyed our visit. Patrick in particular made sure we had plenty of fresh tea and was very helpful. We would recommend anyone to try this venue.

Never thought I could put a review like this about our beloved Broadoaks. Started coming 17 years ago, usually at least once a year and got married there. Came last weekend and wow, what a difference. What has happened. Started off at reception with a quick look in the restaurant, now all white and looking like a doctor’s surgery. Then to the Riverhaven which is our go to room. Gone is the mattress under the window, which we loved to relax on looking into the woodland. Now replaced with a cheap looking sofa. Toilet door rubbing on the floor and very dim bulb. Noticed we were the only ones staying in the lodges where normally all three are occupied. Evening meal was okay but not a patch on what it used to be. Must be a new chef. We always came for one of our birthdays and the dessert plates had Happy Birthday written around, with the other one Welcome Back. Never had to remind them. Nothing this time. Maybe new owners? The bar shelves all gone with awkward seating, plain wall just looks cheap. Breakfast now a Premier Inn style serve yourselves from heated containers (still not very warm) no black pudding or choice of eggs. Worse was the staff going around the tables asking that we do 5 star reviews and to include their names! Beautiful old country manor being slowly ruined. It’s lost all its soul and character. Please do not change the music room. Although we won’t be back to know. Anyone not been before probably won’t find anything wrong but they have missed out on a very special stay.

Had afternoon tea yesterday which was very enjoyable. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted by staff and shown straight to our table even though we were early. As for the afternoon tea itself it's the best we've had for a long time with a good mix of sweet and savoury and plenty of it. The staff were very friendly and attentive frequently asking if we needed more tea. Would certainly go back.

We got married here last week and honestly couldn’t recommend this venue enough. We knew from the start that we wanted an intimate wedding with a small number of guests, but were worried about it looking empty. This venue is the perfect size for a small number of guests (we had 29 people, including ourselves). We booked the wedding before the new changes had been made, but we loved all of the new decor and every member of staff we dealt with was friendly, polite and professional. Special shout out to Kitty, she was an absolute star and couldn’t do enough for us! Thank you Broadoaks and team for helping us have the most amazing day ❤️

I had afternoon tea with my husband and inlaw last week and I must say that I enjoyed myself terribly. We were attended to by the lovely and always smiling Matt, he was so gracious and courteous, he smiled through our whole experience there. We also enjoyed the food. Overall, I had a great time.

Beautiful venue but a whole host of wedding problems. We got married at Broadoaks in November and had problems almost from the time of booking. When we reached out to the venue to come to a resolution we were offered a free of charge one night stay which when compared to the list of problems we experienced does not match up. When we highlighted that we had not received multiple things that were in the contract we were told that this wasn't their problem as the contract was with the previous owners and not themselves, although the contract states 'Broadoaks' and no specific owners. Please see below for the list of problems. - When we were sent the contact the price was £750 morethan what was agreed, Broadoaks stated this was an 'error' and corrected it. - After booking and confirming everything Broakoaks stated that the times they had advised for the ceremony and the evening were not compatible. - We sought clarification from Broadoaks that we would have exclusive use and allow for set up time, this didn't happen and subsequently we struggled to set up due to stragglers from the day before. - We were advised that there was on site parking for 100 cars, this isn't true and includes local lanes. - 9 months before the wedding we received an email stating that the price of food packages would be increasing, despite us having in writing that this wouldn't be happening. - there was often delays in confirming that deposits have been received. - When we added the garden suites onto the booking, once again the price was incorrect on the contract. - 2 days before the wedding we received several phone calls from the venue confirming things that we had submitted on paperwork weeks prior that we had been rushed to submit because of the coordinator going on holiday. * Day of wedding Problems * - When the groom arrived the member of staff was rude to the groom when he queried why there was still the wedding party from the previous day on site. - The retreat had been booked for the bride to get ready, it was not ready and the Bride had to wait on the drive for 30 minutes with guests arriving, despite the plan for getting the key being discussed at length in the planning meetings. The staff never brought the key down. - The floors of the retreat were covered in bleach water which discoloured both the bride's dress and the wedding shoes. - The groom's getting ready room was also not ready for 1300 despite being one of the 'guaranteed' rooms. - Halfway through the day the wedding coordinator changed to someone the bride and groom had never met, this caused multiple problems, including not enough cake being served. Several Guests questioned if this was the first wedding this coordinator had ever done. - Staff were stretched over multiple areas, leaving the guests having to ring a bell to summon bar staff and waiting for a while to check in. - When the staff cleared up the Brides veil got stuffed into a box with the cake knife and dirty cake decor, damaging it and staining it. - One of our guests had severe hazelnut allergy, this was highlighted in EVERY planning meeting we were assured that there would be no hazelnuts on site. There was Nutella served at breakfast. This caused the bride and the groom having to rush to collect it before anyone opened it. - the personalised news of the day and order of the day was not provided at all despite being in the contract.

Stayed over the weekend for a taster because we have got a wedding there nxt yr. Absolutely stunning venue and rooms lovely. Reason not 5 stars I think things need tweaking up. No staff arrived at reception for 15 mins even though I bell a few times. Staff wasn't 100 percent what was going on . On our leaflets it states 7.30 breakfast,so we went down to be told 8.30. then just had we where leaving a staff member said no it's 8 now. Breakfast wasn't fully out dishes were missing for cereal ,few of the staff unsure with thereselves. Just needs tweaking customer services then it would be perfect. Only paid deposit so will keep an eye on future reviews but hopefully they keep up the standards for our big day

Amazing country house and most staff are very nice. But the owners don't seem like very nice people we saw them speaking to staff members like dirt, it made us very uncomfortable such a shame it tainted are experience. There are lots of very nice country houses in the area I would recommend going to any of them other than broadoaks.

Room with four poster, super bathroom but spoilt by incredibly hot room- and it wasnt even great weather! Food was good, evening meal, breakfast, wedding supper. Not Providing lunch snacks for arriving guests was an issue. Many had travelled far and couldnt get into their rooms or a snack. It was a long wait from breakfast to supper. Other than that, lovely venue and building.

Firstly I just want to start by saying what a beautiful hotel Broadoaks is. I got married here last week and I am so so pleased we chose Broadoaks as our venue. It completely exceeded our expectations, the food was fantastic and everything went so smoothly. Everyone just had the most wonderful time. I want to say a special thank you to Jo who was our event planner from start to finish. She was fabulous and put my mind at ease by answering my thousands upon thousands of questions. She really made us feel special on the day and I cannot thank her enough. For anyone who is looking for a wedding venue I would 100% recommend broadoaks. It was just the perfect day :) Thanks so much!! Ash & James

I have been playing piano for weddings and parties for many years and Broadoaks is by far my favourite wedding venue for small to medium-size weddings in whole of the The Lake District! The staff are SO friendly! The location is SO peaceful! The standards overall are SO high! Broadoaks has everything you could possibly wish for!

We had an amazing couple of nights here for our daughters wedding. The staff were absolutely amazing with a big shout out to Mel who organised all my daughters wedding instructions to the detail and Dan who looked after us so well in the evening. The kitchen and waiting staff were so good with the wedding breakfast hog roast which was delicious and the buffet breakfast the following morning was lovely. It was a beautiful venue for the wedding both inside and out. The orangery looked amazing for the wedding and turned into a great disco floor later. Unfortunately the weather meant we weren't able to get more photos outside but got some nice ones near the fountain and under cover at the impressive front entrance. It was great that we had the whole hotel to ourselves all day and through the evening so there was no issues with worrying about the noise from some guests that stayed up later. Definitely 5 stars!

Just spent a night here with my mum. We loved the experience. The staff were efficient and attentive - I phoned for an iron and had it delivered to our room within seconds. The room was lovely and toasty warm (even with below 0 temperatures outside). The food was delicious and there was plenty of it. Would definitely return again :)

Off main tourist route in Ambleside, worth the short detour. Proper traditional pub, not messed with. A wet pub (no food). It's a Robinson's pud, not normally my favourite, but a big choice of real ale, all good. Popular with walkers. It has outside seating. Well worth a visit.
