Cottage Kitchen in South Lakeland

The food was fabulous. My husband and I both had the steak pie, mushy peas, chips, and gravy - we highly recommend it! All homemade and delicious. This was a spur of the moment meal on our way from The Lakes to the M6 to go home. So glad we stopped and sought this cafe out. Really friendly staff and spotlessly clean!

Never been to a place with as much gluten-free choice. Couldn't believe it when the lady behind the counter said that everything in the display cabinet was gf! I had a bakewell tart, so delicious that I bought three more to take home. Kids had brownies and carrot cake and were also impressed. Next time I'm going to make sure to go for lunch because they do quiche, pies etc. If you are gluten free don't miss it!

Stopped off on way home to Scotland and decided to try Cottage Kitchen as had good reviews. It was nice... We had the brocolli and cheese soup which was a bit tasteless but my sons had the paninis which were lovely. My husband sampled the scone cream and jam which was also lovely. Clean enough but we were seated at the back corner where there was a definite smell of dog so presumably a dog friendly cafe although none were in when we were. Nice friendly staff with a good service.

Stopped at Kendal for lunch on our way to Newby Bridge. We ordered a tuna mayo sandwich and prawn mayo sandwich with a side of chips. Food was lovely and service was fantastic. Our 2nd visit here and we will return next time in the area.

Come here every week on a Saturday. The service is always impressive. Food is excellent and scones are amazing. Nothing is ever to much and staff.

Second visit here and sad to say no improvement from my first visit. Cafe totally empty Order placed. Approx 5 staff . Tea for two consisted of the smallest cups I have ever seen and a small teapot that is normally just for one. After a six min wait my sausage sandwich arrived. Eventually my wife asked where here toasted teacake was. It seems it was sat at the side of the toaster totally forgotten about . Instead of making a new one that was warm the cold one was served. If the staff had spent less time chatting and more time looking after customers this would not have happened. One thing for sure. We will not be back

This is our go to place when shopping in Kendal. It's unusual to find a cafe that serves gluten free savoury products. This one does and it does it well. The pastry is good (quiches and pies) and everything is home made. Good service and seating either inside or outside.

We called in for a breakfast while on holiday and we were welcomed in. The staff are all really lovely, and the service was excellent. Food is all freshly made/cooked and we loved it there.

We stopped at the Cottage kitchen for a quick snack and were not disappointed. 4 adults had the fruit scones (home made), clotted cream, jam and tea. The grandchildren had chicken nuggets and beans on toast. The scones were delicious, we bought more to takeaway. The children's meals were excellent. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We were visiting Kendal for the day and we decided to come here for lunch on a whim. It was a bloomin warm afternoon and our spot outside was nice and shady and there was a booster seat available for my daughter. Our food was delicious, we both had halloumi and onion marmalade paninis and my girl had beans and toast which she seemed to enjoy! We thoroughly enjoyed everything about our visit, the staff were super friendly, despite it being pretty busy! On the high street you get hoity toity yuppie restaurants, but then you get honest and comfortable places like this. I'd choose it every time. Highly recommended, we can't wait to go again.

We have just had a delicious family lunch with our 3 young kids. The quality of all our meals was faultless. My husband is also gluten intolerant so he was delighted to have so many options to choose from. He had his first proper battered fish and chips in years! It didn’t disappoint. Found this little cafe whilst visiting Kendal.Gluten free is a must when looking for somewhere and they didn't disappoint.We sat outside with our dog and were made very welcome. Info and order was taken at the table and they also brought the card machine to the table and felt safe.We had gluten free cakes which were delicious and a lovely coffee too.Would definitely recommend and we will be back next time we visit.

My wife and I called into the Cottage Kitchen whilst visiting the Lakes for a couple of days. We always stop in Kendal and thought we'd give this place a try given the positive reviews on Tripadvisor and we weren't disappointed. On a cold wet day we both opted fr the soup and sandwich option. With two soups to choose from we both opted for the homemade Tomato and Basil Soup - delicious. My wife followed this with a Tuna and Mayo Sandwich whilst I had the Ham. Both sandwiches were really tasty and both lunches were great value for money on a cold and wet day. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. I'd definitely call back next time we're able to visit the Lakes.

We came here to get out of the rain on Monday afternoon and was pleased to find a warm cosy cafe with pleasant staff with a very warm welcome. Visited Cottage Kitchen yesterday. The staff were warm and welcoming, excellent service from all the staff. The tempting variety on the menu made it difficult to choose, but based on reviews on Tripadvisor I went for the gluten free fish and chips (as I am gluten intolerant). It was AMAZING, the best GF fish and chips I've ever had; light and perfectly cooked; not at all greasy. They were happy to change my mushy peas for a salad (since I don't like mushy peas!). My husband had the burger (not gluten free) and said it was the best meal out he has had in a long time. Portion sizes were spot on as well. The variety of cakes on display were too much of a temptation and luckily for me they do takeaway option for cakes as well so I took some home (would love it if they change to a more environmentally friendly/recyclable takeaway box though!). Lovely tasty and light cakes. We will definitely be back very soon!

When we are out in any town we always try to frequent local businesses when we can. Sometimes the fare is average but the people make the difference. This little cafe is wonderful. A good varied menu to suit all tastes including my wife the very picky vegetarian. Food is a good price very plentiful and of a very good standard. The people though once again are what make the difference. Very friendly from the minute we walked in the door until we left but not obtrusive while we were eating. I'd recommend anyone to eat here. Well done another big thumbs up to the independent .

The meal was a really good size and very good value, it arrived piping hot and was delicious. Afterwards we treated ourselves to coffee and walnut cake, served with either cream or ice cream. Again we received a very generous serving, and it was fantastic. We would definitely recommend this cafe to anyone.

Llamé aquí para almorzar de nuevo y no me decepcionó. Como celíaco, comer a menudo puede ser limitante, pero no aquí: pasteles, quiches, pasteles, todo sin gluten y totalmente delicioso. We arrived for our 'lunch' at about 3.30 so could hardly complain that they had run out of all their pies, quiches and just about everything else as well. Clearly a popular place and there were certainly delicious smells coming from the oven region. Had we arrived a little later the pies were back on the menu but as it was we settled for the savoury tuna baked potatoes and they were excellent, well filled with the freshly mixed tuna savoury and accompanied by a side salad and slaw. No complaints, just wish we had arrived earlier!

Only had a coffee which was very nice but the staff were lovely good job we didn’t take notice of the terrible reviews. The meals coming out looked delicious and everyone seemed to enjoy their food.

Possibly the worst service and none friendly staff we’ve ever experienced. A party of us went for a lunch time meal and was met with such attitude it made my skin crawl. The food was served and the fish was tasteless the bacon Brie and cranberry not toasted and chewy the breakfast was burnt the only thing edible was the toast. But the worst by far was the young lady taking our order she was rude and in helpful. Being local we will not return.

The cottage kitchen hand make a number of lovely gluten free quiches and pies. I had a gluten free steak quiche. It was the best pastry I have ever tasted just melted in my mouth. Popped into Kendal on our holidays in windermere, searched for a gluten free cafe in the area as my girlfriend is gluten intolerant. First choice what came up was cottage kitchen, and our lucky we was. The whole menu practically can change to gluten free if asked. The food tasted amazing, my girlfriend had the quiche which she said was the best she's had.Thank you to all the staff for making this trip worthwhile

Do you need gluten-free? This is the place for you. Practically the whole menu is gf. Take the pies, for instance: so good that non-gf diners compliment the pastry, without being aware that it is gf. And the cakes... The cooking is excellent, the quantity is plentiful, and the service is friendly and swift.

Pies & cakes that I'd go back for, what more can I say. Oh by the way the staff are real friendly & helpful as well!
