The best restaurants in Windermere Applethwaite and Troutbeck South Lakeland North West

We visited Broadoaks for afternoon tea on Mon 3 March. It was spectacular! Normally there is not enough savoury and too much sweet but this couldn't have been better. Lovely sandwiches, brioche rolls, sausage rolls, mini quiches made up an amazing platter; we have never seen anything quite like this. The scone was the perfect combination of crispy on the outside, soft in the middle and didn't crumble when the jam and clotted cream were added. The desserts were all home made. The chocolate ganache cake was to die for! The chef even prepared two Portuguese tarts as a special extra. My wife had a vegetarian platter which was equally perfect. Patrick who managed the afternoon tea service was friendly, entertaining, super helpful and incredibly smartly dressed! It was worth going to the hotel if only to meet him! Chelsea at reception was a lovely, friendly and bubbly person. Overall this was the most extravagant afternoon tea we have ever had; it was the height of decadence and a wonderful experience!

Very over priced for what you get was charged £3.95 for a splash of lemonade in a £4.95 gin and £17.95 for a salad 🥗 rip won’t be back .shame staff lovely and service good

Great find in Windermere. Food was freshly cooked and plentiful.service was as requested wirh a little break and a nivmce little corner spot for the pup. Recommend the pie and the burger, but the bread basket and olive oil went back empty too !

The food was superb. Beautifully cooked. Front of house was attentive without being intrusive. We had a lovely dinner and thought it was reasonably priced for the quality & presentation.

Recommended by a local, we booked this restaurant for my birthday. It did not disappoint. Great atmosphere, lovely staff including the owner Francine. The food was absolutely delicious from the complementary canapes right through to amazing puddings. Flavours all delicious. Highly recommend.

Excellent service. Booking was very professional and helpful. Service was excellent from all the staff. Food was wonderful. We had Sunday lunch, beef, chicken and lamb. All cooked to perfection. The Yorkshire puddings were better than ‘my nans 🤣’. Great location for train and bus services. Easy to walk around Windermere. Will definitely be back.

Amazing atmosphere and a HUGE range of whiskeys! Was greated by the baa( no pun intended) owner on our 1st visit and was warmly welcomed! Great staff and lots of look at when you are sat down!

We visited yesterday evening after a day hiking up Helvellyn and we was in need of a pub food fix and after all the amazing reviews we thought we would give this place a try.The quality of the food was amazing we had the pigs in blankets and calamari to start and gammon steak for mains and it was cooked to perfection.The staff and Owner were lovely and we even ended up staying for alot more drinks than we should have due to how friendly the staff were and how amazing the atmosphere in the pub. (Sore heads this morning!!)Highly recommend visiting this place we would rate higher than 5* if we could!

Very friendly service with great teas and coffee and the tea bread served toasted with butter ss amazing. If it wasn't misty looked like a greatcview across Windermere.

First Class Hotel, excellent service throughout our stay, staff here are brilliant. Went with some trepidation by taking our 7 month old cockapoo that hasn't conquered separation anxiety. We needn't have worried as everyone loved her and a table for breakfast and evening meal was prepared for us in a separate room so that she could stay with us at all times. Other than that personal note rooms here are always clean and if you have lake view you probably won't want to leave, the large grounds are beautiful with spectacular scenery.

A fairly small, simple and quaint restaurant, but excellent value and delicious Chinese food. The chicken and sweetcorn soup is some of the best I have ever tasted. Well seasoned and the texture is perfect, as often some places make it way too gloopy. The prawn toast had more prawn in it than virtually every other place i have been, furthermore you can tell its homemade rather than the oh so common freezer to fryer ones made with a prawn and chicken mix. The hot garlic beef steak was absolutely divine, so tender and spicy, a standout dish. Only downside, the sweet and sour wasn’t great, I have much better elsewhere, but the rest of the food is so good it doesn’t bother me, I just don’t order it anymore! If you have somewhere to eat at home, there isn’t much advantage to eating out at the restaurant compared to as a takeaway as its a simple setting, but regardless the staff have always been very friendly and catered to our needs well. The best Chinese in Bowness/Windermere and it’s not even close! (And trust me, at the time of writing we have been to them all!)

First time visiting and we were very impressed. We managed to get a last minute table on a Saturday evening (highly recommend booking). The food is incredible and portions are great sizes. The service was possibly the best service we have ever received in any restaurant. Everything about this place is great, they really have attention to detail. I would say this place is a must when visiting Windermere!! Thanks for a lovely evening.

The food is excellent with lots of Gluten Free options. Excellent service and great atmosphere. The staff were very ‘clued in’ on GF which is always a bonus. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Absolutely fantastic place and very friendly. We went twice and the lovely lady remembered our order from the day before. The food was spot on and service was very quick. Would definitely recommend
