Had afternoon tea there today which was a birthday gift. The staff greeted us in a very friendly manner and the service was excellent. They regularly checked if everything was OK and if we needed more tea etc. The afternoon tea itself was beautifully presented and loads of it. We couldn't eat all the cakes and they were boxed up for us to bring home. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel and grounds were beautifully kept. We are planning to stay there later this year. Would highly recommend

Great friendly highly professional staff. Very clean. Coffee pod machine in room + kettle + tea, biscuits, milk etc + iron + hair dryer & all the usual shower gels. If I were to go back to the area this would be at the top of my list.

We had a lovely stay on a Saturday night in January. The price for bed and breakfast was really reasonable. The staff are so helpful and friendly. Our room (No 23) had a little balcony where we could either look up into the hills or down to the lake through the trees. We decided to eat in the hotel in the evening. The starter of leek and potato soup was tasty. I chose the lamb tagine for main course and really didn't enjoy it at all. The lamb was really fatty and the sauce too full of butter beans and quite tasteless. I put this partly down to having made a wrong choice but expected a better experience in such a lovely hotel. For example, there were two terrines on the list of starters which I thought was a bit strange. The breakfast was satisfactory although I just get a bit fed up of poached eggs always tasting of vinegar!! I know they use it to help keep the egg together, but it's just not necessary, particularly in a hotel restaurant where chefs should be able to poach an egg without help from vinegar. Anyway, our stay was worth the money. The meal in the evening however was not (we paid £75 for it).

Had a 2 night stay here in January and were really impressed. The hotel is spotless and the staff are friendly. The room was spacious with a large bed. The hospitality tray was well stocked and there was even a jar of sweets, both of which were restocked on the 2nd day. There was also a coffee machine. The only downside was the curtains were a little thin. This didn’t affect us much in winter but in summer it might. We had afternoon tea on the first day which was absolutely delicious and very filling. It was served by a very friendly member of staff, in a comfortable, cosy room. It is a very spacious hotel whilst being comfortable and personal at the same time. There are rooms to retreat to if you want some quiet time and even games to play, Breakfast was the best we have ever had. The quality was superb with plenty of choice. There was fresh fruit, yoghurt, pastries, cereals and fruit juices. The Briery Wood Platter (full English) was delicious. The black pudding was so tasty and everything was cooked well. The location was quiet and tucked away. However, as others have mentioned it is on a busy road with a ten minute walk to the bus stop. Sometimes you have to cross over because the pavement ends. There is plenty of free parking at the hotel. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and want to thank every member of staff for making our stay so enjoyable. We would definitely stay here again.

Just stayed a night on a DBB basis (good value) with wifey & dog. Staff were brilliant - very dog friendly, understandably we can’t dine with our dog in the dining room but they have a separate room which is brilliant. The bedrooms have a door to the patio/garden. Beds super comfy, lovely bathroom. Been here several times. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t kind this time!

We had an excellent stay at The Briery - the food was amazing, staff were all very friendly and room was 1st class. Not taking anything away from our stay but if I had one tiny criticism it would be that the dining room furniture wasn't up to the same standard as the rest of the hotel - apparently waiting for an upgrade

We played here last night for a wedding. This venue is split between many rooms with a partition between the main two. This means extra mobile fill-in speakers in the bar area, which wasn't a problem at all. One thing we did enjoy was the attention to detail, and hospitality the staff gave us. Although much of the information was on our dj planner, it was good to know we were both working from the same page. Thank you staff.

If you enjoy walking, you will find it difficult to cross the road at the entrance to the drive, as there is no footpath on the same side as the hotel and the traffic approaches at speed from both directions.

My wife and I planned one night stay in which we were so impressed with the meals, rooms and especially the amazing staff (hats off to Danny and one of the cleaners) that we booked another night for the meals. The lakes district has so many options but I cannot, and will not go anywhere else from now on. Well done from the sailing crew of SV Cassius

My husband & I had our wedding on 24.04.24 as a just us package but booked an additional night on top at Briery Wood and every single thing from the moment we walked through the doors til we left was absolutely amazing. Staff consistently went above and beyond for us to make us feel comfortable and enjoy our stay! The restaurant and food were absolutely amazing, there was a lovely menu and an even better afternoon tea. Our wedding day was made to be even more special by the team and they all worked together to make it such a memorable day which both my husband and I incredibly appreciate and will be very happy to come back again, it is well worth a trip!

just spend 2 nights in this amazing hotel. What can I say other than WOW. right from the moment we entered the doors we were made to feel welcomed. I have stayed in places with my dogs before but never in a place where they are more welcomed than people. If you are looking for a dog friendly stay then this is the one. full range of the hotel (except the main dining hall), doggy welcome pack on arrival and staff that just love dogs. I will defiantly coming back here again.

We visited for lunch without a reservation. The menu was good and the food was fabulous. Very helpful friendly staff, who were also knowledgeable about the beer on offer. We had 5 very different, but wonderfully enjoyable meals prior to an event. By complete coincidence, it turned out we were back a couple of hours later as the event was being catered for in the same pub. They turned out a lovely spread for what must have been 50 people and we were all well looked after.

We stopped for Sunday lunch here on the way to Bowness. It was fantastic. A really lovely, old, pub. Lots of original features and amazingly good food. The staff were very stretched but kind and attentive still. Loved it.
