We had s fantastic experience at Platos. We ordered a mixture of dishes from specials and main menu and everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The service was equally impressive. Friendly, attentive and made us feel welcome. Atmosphere was lively but relaxed, perfect for a night out with friends. Can't wait to return.

We come once a year to the Village of Kirby Lonsdale. Platos although a restaurant/bar have amazing rooms which are always up to standard and they also take dogs.... sadly this was our first time without the dog. The food was lovely as usual and service was great too.

A wonderful nights stay at Plato's. Lovely warm room and reception from the team. Also, some of the best eggs royal I've had. Thanks

Wow!!! Quite simply the Spiced Rubbed Monkfish was one of the best meals I’ve ever had! In the description it says “muscle cream sauce” which is completely inaccurate. What they actually mean is that the meal comes with like a dozen wonderful muscles! Sourdough bread, olives & oils was an excellent starter for the table to share. For informal you can sit in the bar area. If you want a less hectic scene the restaurant is perfect. I’d recommend a table facing the kitchen as it was just amazing watching how they all worked so well together. If you visit KL I’d highly recommend you have a meal here.

Fabulous location, branded well with modern design. Lovely staff and delicious breakfast. However, the reason we booked was to not only just to experience the area but to sleep. ROOM 1 The floorboards are quite creaky which you could expect from the age of the building but upstairs was shocking. Thudding sounds of residents walking around their room. It was annoying which became stressful. The problem is we as guests should be able to walk around without annoying other guests.. I had to call Reception twice. Once before and once after midnight to ask them to investigate. Staff were accommodating. I would say to the owners of this hotel branding of this venue is fabulous we fell for it, sleep quality due to poorly maintained floorboards is not good enough if you are promoting a place to sleep. Visitors walk for miles during the day in this beautiful area and need rest, this includes sleep. We are well travelled we know quality and good value. This is a cool bar, great food, shocking sleep experience. Be mindful.

This is the second time I've visited Plato's in the historical town of Kirkby Lonsdale, this time for Sunday lunch. The food was excellent, the kids we were with loved it too especially the Yorkshire puddings! The service was also fantastic, all the staff were genuinely helpful and friendly, including the manager/owner who came over to talk to us to and made sure we were enjoying our visit. Oh and the ice cream was great too, we were recommended 'Thunderbolt' flavour and so glad we tried it. We were even given a quick tour of downstairs by the owner as we were enquiring about a potential function there in the future. Looks great. Will definitely be going back.

We chose the 12 course meal with an added course and dessert, and it was worth every penny! Every plate was beautifully plated, and phenomenal. The head chef, James came out to explain several of the dishes in detail, from what makes the ingredient unique, to how it was sourced and prepared. The explanations of every dish made this a fascinating experience that set it apart from other Michelin restaurants since it’s never the chef, and the plates are not always explained in detail. The other servers/chef were all kind and friendly as well. We also loved how certain ingredients were paired with preparations that you would never think of, such as pea miso or barley koji. Being Japanese, I loved how old Japanese methods were used on untypical ingredients. Lastly, James and Darren (sommelier) chose a few wines for us, and they went perfectly with our meal. The wine pairing would be a good choice at this restaurant. The dishes are spaced with enough time that you wouldn’t have to rush drinking every glass, and their wines are incredible. If you are visiting Ambleside, this restaurant is a must! It was the highlight of our time in the UK, and will definitely be back if we’re ever in Ambleside again.

We stayed at the site over the bank holiday weekend and visited the pub a few times for drinks—each visit was a great experience! On Monday evening, we decided to have dinner, and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. While there were some gluten-free options on the menu (mostly meat-based), the team let us know that with a bit of advance notice, they could offer more variety. The chef even kindly offered to make a gluten-free carbonara—something not on the menu—which my mum ordered and really enjoyed. We all had different dishes, and every single one was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend this lovely pub (and the campsite)!
