The Wheatsheaf, Beetham in South Lakeland

Food was Greggs standard (Salmon En Croute) edible but not worth the £17 price tag by a long way, dry salmon, soggy pastry. Potatoes were salty and shrivelled and green beans looked and tasted like they’d been through the dishwasher. Room cold, lady taking payment rude. I had dessert which still had the cling film imprint in the top and smelt horrible, tasted of nothing. We were a table of 9 and nobody was impressed, some less confrontational members wouldn't of complained about the meal, just wanted to pay and leave but the woman taking payment was greeting people with ‘so did you hate it as well?’. Maybe she could have done with some more training.

Went for Sunday lunch and just managed to get in. So glad we did. Great service and more importantly great food. Make sure you book in advance.

Great food and excellent service from Callum and his team yesterday evening. We had a room booked too, which was cosy comfortable, recently refurbished with a lovely view of the church. Breakfast was equally good, with Callum again looking after the guests, with nothing too much trouble. We would return and happily recommend.

Great food and very attentive staff

Went there for a funeral wake. The place has very little heating and only one overworked member of staff. The food supplied was OK but not enough for the number of people there. Would not go there again.

Lovely old pub and village. Haven't stayed in the hotel as we are in a motorhome but looks great.

Great food and service, so always our dining spot before heading to the Heron Theatre!

Enjoyed our stay here. Welcomed by Lucie very efficient and friendly. Food was excellent. All Staff were attentive during Evening meal and breakfast. Charming Village with Church View. Beetham Garden Centre over the road which is definitely recommended for a visit. We will return to BOTH.

We enjoyed a very nice meal here, the staff were exceptional especially the young lad (didn’t get his name) at the time who gave us great service. The food was delicious, went for the venison steak and it didn’t disappoint. Cooked to perfection and coupled with a sauce that was truly a masterpiece in itself. Would definitely recommend visiting if you’re in the area.

Gorgeous pub in a picturesque village. It was very busy on a Thursday lunchtime but they made room for us and we had a delicious meal.

Called in for lunch. Beautifully decorated and styled very well. Quick lunch: halloumi on bread with a lovely salad.

Lovely place to have a meal & drink, nice village and very historic building.

We came here to get the Fairy Trail map and ask if ok to use the car park. Callum and Katie where really pleasant explained where the trail started and where more than happy for us to use the car park. After our walk we returned for lunch which was absolutely fantastic. They are dog friendly place and even brought over water and treat for our dog. Highly recommended place and really beautiful inside.

We had a really lovely dinner here with good service and tasty food, and we would absolutely return if we're in the area. Kid friendly, dog friendly, and delicious!

Slow to get the bill, but otherwise great food and atmosphere

Had lunch here with a group yesterday. The food was good and came quickly, well served by Callum and his young staff. Interesting building, too!

Nice old, stone build Inn with character. Nice comfort rooms, tasty food polite personnel. Definitely ill come back if I am in the area.

Lunch twice in three weeks. Food delicious. Drinks on offer varied. Staff are lovely, particularly Callum and Lucy.

Had a meal at the Wheatsheaf on 26th July. One of our meals was really lovely, but the burger was really unpleasant and wasn’t eaten. We informed the manager who was really rude and wouldn’t work with us to reach any satisfactory outcome, resulting in us paying full price for the meal and making my other half feel really uncomfortable. The young man who was part of the wait staff was brilliant, but was unfortunately a really disappointing experience. Our friends own a caravan nearby and has sadly put a dampener on their local.

Stopped on way from southern lakes back home for dinner, and we had excellent meals with great service from very pleasant staff.

Gorgeous pub, gorgeous food, outrageously rude manager. We were all scared to death of her. Experience of service was saved by the really lovely young staff that served us very efficiently. Would go back but would avoid all contact with pub manager!

Clean room and adequate for our short stay, Housekeeper,Sandra , friendly and helpful. Breakfast very good! Cooked nicely and very presentable, met the breakfast cook, again lovely friendly lady. Lewis, served our evening meal and what a delightful young man! The atmosphere was cosy and friendly. I would stay again, be warnedthe old church clocks strikes on the hour, but it is a delicate pleasant chime! You are provided with ear plugs, I didn’t find it necessary to use. The most quaint location and remember it’s an old inn, so few steps to reach the top floor. But definitely my type if short stay . Pat Makin

Great food and drink, staff are the friendliest I have ever encountered, dog friendly, a gem amongst hotel restaurants.

Stopped off for a drink and a short break. Ended up staying for lunch. Brilliant food, outstanding service and perfect surroundings. All the staff were wonderful and particularly our waiter Taya. We'll definitely be back. Thank you for a great experience.

Dont be mislead by the menu online which is quite limited. They have daily specials in addition to the static menu. The food is fabulous, as is the service & good value for money.

We took my niece Charlotte here for her birthday lunch. What a beautiful experience it was. Bella,Adrian and Joanne were incredibly attentive, friendly, efficient and welcoming. The food was sublime. The cauliflower and chestnut soup was that good I asked for the recipe, so I can make it at home. Joanne, was incredibly funny, shared the recipe and hopefully will become a friend of ours.She was Brilliant with Charlotte and I and totally got our sense of humour. See you in the series Joanne?🤣. Nice place, but... cask ale in a lager glass. Big no no. Basic stuff.

Bella our waitress was fab; very attentive and cheerful. But, all the other staff we came across were lovely too! Food was very nice we booked a table to avoid disappointment. They're super dog friendly (we got ours a Sunday dinner off the menu! ) and have plenty of drinks to choose from. I'd definitely recommend! Oh and they have outside seating too!

Great selection of GF food and decaf tea and coffee. Amazing food at a great price. We popped in and got treated really well by the friendly staff there. I would recommend this little place to anybody. Nicely decorated with a great atmosphere. Went again today and it's still amazing food and really happy friendly staff.

Had a lovely family lunch here yesterday. Very nice seasonal food lovely staff, beautiful location and atmosphere. We absolutely loved it and we cannot wait to go back! What a hidden gem!
