Just spent a lovely time enjoying afternoon tea here for my birthday treat. Looked after wonderfully by Mathew who was professional but very welcoming and friendly. Delicious mixture of sweet and savoury treats, plus lovely glasses of fizz. Far too much food to finish, however offered boxes to pack the cakes in to enjoy at home. Can’t wait to visit again.

Earlier today my wife and I spent a lovely, relaxed couple of hours drinking good coffee, eating tasty sandwiches and devouring delicious cakes at this venue. We were warmly greeted in Reception and asked where we would like to sit for our meal. We decided to take our Afternoon Tea in the Music Room - a lovely and well-maintained example of Arts and Crafts design/decoration. Rather than sit at one of the tables, we chose the very comfortable-looking sofas in front of the fire. Our choice of hot drink (coffee) arrived promptly, quickly followed by a 3-tiered cake-stand full of goodies which, working our way upwards consisted of coronation chicken, cheese and chutney, and ham with piccalilli sandwiches, a small savoury tartlet and a tasty pig-in-a-blanket. The middle plate offered lemon-mousse (in a jar), caramel-chocolate covered profiteroles, a very-gooey dark chocolate cake, a chocolate tart topped with slices of orange*. On the top-plate sat plain and fruit scones, fresh clotted-cream and starwberry jam. Fresh strawberries were liberally scattered across all 3 layers. * My wife has a nut-allergy and, as we had let Broadoaks know when we booked, they separated out a macaron and a slice of cake topped with almond flakes which were provided on a separate plate. Whilst it formed part of the package, we forwent the prosecco as we had had an ample sufficiency. The meal was lovely, the surroundings were impressive and we were very well looked after by Matthew for whom nothing was too much trouble, and who was friendly and professional throughout. Should circumstances allow in the future, we would have no hesitation in returning to Brooklands Country House Hotel to enjoy Afternoon Tea and we would recommend that anyone reading this review takes the time to go themselves.

My wife found this on TravelZoo so I treated us both to afternoon tea for her birthday. There were white and brown bread versions of egg and chive, smoked salmon cream cheese and cucumber, ham and mustard, and cheese and pickle sandwiches. We also had warmed mini cheese and onion tarts, pigs in blanket and sausage roll slices. The second level of the stand contained some pots with strawberry mousse and biscuit crumb base, some small pieces of cheesecake, cherry sponge cake and flapjack. The top layer had two currant and two plain scones and mini Eccles cakes. There was clotted cream and strawberry jam for the scones. For the price this was an absolute bargain. We couldn't eat all the cakes so the waitress put the remainder in two plastic containers for us to take home. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal. In fact I would have happily paid full price for it!

Booked for afternoon tea as seen reviews on trip advisor. But sadly we were disappointed. Maybe we’ve got fussy in our old age. Cakes were dry and stodgy. The scones were so dry even with the cream and jam on. Would have been nice to have slices of moist Victoria sandwich or similar but had dry tasteless what we think was cheesecake. Another cake or biscuit with a thin layer of jam, husband thinks it might of been shortbread but we couldn’t really tell. Sausage rolls, mini quiches and little sausages would have been so much better if warm. Tea was nice but would have been nice to be offered a selection. Had read it was Michelin recommended so went with really high hopes but left disappointed. Even little things like paper napkins instead of linen ones, not much but takes it up another level. Staff looked as fed up as us. When we left as well noticed planters full of weeds and one with a large dead plant in the middle. Like I said it’s the little things that would make such a difference.

We have been 5 or 6 times over the years using a Groupon coupon for afternoon tea, which makes it excellent value. Yesterday we went and it was the best ever. More savories now, which were good. Tasty cakes and fresh scones with lashings of jam and cream. Good friendly attentive service. You get a box to take home any leftovers. Would recommend.

Visited Broadoaks over weekend for an afternoon tea and for price of £22.50 per person plus £10 for an outside pod was expecting better service than we got. Firstly the tables in the pod are odd position and very uncomfortable to sit on cos they have been put on a slope and it feels like you sliding down. The same with crockery- you almost need to hold everything for it not to slide from the table.Secondly service seemed very slow and not up to standard. Tea cups brought to the table were stained and the side plates had bits of food on them. Had to ask for them to be replaced. Also we were expecting someone to explain the cakes and sandwiches, but nobody did.No one double checked on allergies and never came back to check if everything is ok with the food.Overall Broadoaks is in the lovely setting, but unfortunately on this occasion they have failed on the service side.

Sitting on a comfy sofa in the music room of Broadoaks Country House, we were served our afternoon tea which we enjoyed in front of a roaring fire. Perfect finger sandwiches - my favourite was the salmon and cream cheese - followed by scrumptious scones with jam and clotted cream. Although we did have tea, served to us in gorgeous China cups, we also chose a bottle (maybe two!) of pink fizz too, because why not?

Purchased a Groupon voucher for afternoon tea, evening meal, overnight stay and breakfast. We were also able to use the spa at another local hotel which was a nice touch. We stayed for my wifes birthday and they left a card in the room and wrote happy birthday on her dessert plate which was very nice. The grounds around the hotel are gorgeous, not far from the lake it is truly beautiful. The hotel itself is very nice and the room (Our room was Ash, room 3 I think) was very large and had a jacuzzi bath. Here comes my only complaint. When we turned the jets on a lot of dirt came out of the jets. Not pleasant. The Afternoon Tea was great, we were seated in a lovely little conservatory and the waiting on staff were friendly and efficient. Food was great and the little notes about proper Afternoon Tea etiquette were a nice touch.Evening tea was great, I got the Fillet steak, literally melted in my mouth and the puddings were to die for.The bed was comfortable and breakfast was very nice. The staff in general were also pleasant and the older gentlemen who had served us during our evening meal is a credit to the hotel. All in all an excellent stay in a beautiful hotel. We will be back for sure.

Spent two nights at Broadoaks to celebrate our 36th wedding Anniversary in October, Broadoaks is a beautiful old Manor House filled with stunning antique furniture. The dinner also consists of canapés, amuse bouche, sorbet, so you need to pace yourself. Sharon is culinary master in the kitchen. Can't wait to return.

A really beautiful place to visit , the grounds are so well kept with really immaculate gardens and plenty of seating areas.Nice entrance to hotel and restaurant we were asked if we wanted to have tea in the gardens or the orangery we choose the orangery with the air con as it was a very hot day. They gave us a choice of tea or coffee and brought our afternoon tea promptly with a glass of pink fizz I would have preferred to have been given the choice when I would have liked the fizz as it didn't go well with the hot tea and my preference would have been to either have it before the tea or maybe afterwards in the garden .The tea was substantial with plenty of choice we had an assortment of finger sandwiches and tray bakes with little scones served with jam and clotted cream. My only disappointment was there was not a slice of a real cake which would have been my preference and the scones were a little dry and would have been better served warm.We asked if we could take home what was left as others were doing and this was no problem . We did have to ask if we could have more tea and I noticed several people going to the kitchen door and knocking for a waitress who were thin on the ground .

We came here as our local radio was doing a promotion. On arrival we received a warm welcome after carrying the pram up some stone steps, not sure where the prams or disabled access was as was not at main entrance. We were sat by the window with little room between our table and the one behind so heard every sentence of the most boring conversation happening behind us. There was plenty of room yet did feel crammed in especially when we walked through an empty room to get to the 'conservatory'. I needed to change my new born Son so asked about facilities and was told yes and pointed in the direction of the toilets. There were no facilities and instead I changed my baby on the carpet before the toilets! Again these were up a couple of stairs. On settling the bill I mentioned this and was told I could have used a side board! I queried if this was the one the one clutter with ornamental bits (that I take it I would be expected to removed one handed as baby in other!). The table was set with mix match crockery which we found amusing as some tables were matching sets but ours not. On looking round the venue it was tatty in places e.g wall lights were wonky. The actual food was ok nothing too special that you couldn't create at home. Glad we did not pay full price. Good points you could have a carry out, nice gardens. Poor points shabby in places (not shabby chic!), no baby change facilities or no obvious easy access with a pram on arrival at main entrance. No atmosphere/back ground music Strange also that this review was removed from the hotels page I put this on and they have a separate page for afternoon tea only reviews ??!? No other hotels do this.

We booked the Rippledene Lodge which is a dog friendly lodge situated within the grounds of the Country House. We instantly fell in love with the lodge and the house. The views were phenomenal and the "can do" welcoming attitude by staff made our quick overnight stay even more enjoyable. This is truly a dog friendly place with so many nice touches towards pets that I think you should discover for yourself. The lodge we stayed in was furnished to an extremely high standard. LCD TV (with HD freeview), radio, hot tub type bath, shower, ample tea/coffee making facilities and the most amazingly comfortable bed I have ever stayed in. When we arrived at the lodge it was extremely warm inside - so warm that we had to open the doors initially and then turn the heating down. If your worried about being cold in these lodges then don't be! You are close to a wood so the view from this room was directly into the wood and it was lovely waking to sounds of wild life - we had our window slightly open but if closed you would have complete peace and quiet! The staff were really friendly and helpful and despite this venue obviously being a 5 star location it does not have any of the pompous attitudes from staff that these places can attract. The staff are really what makes this place tick and this team appear to be able to work smoothly in order provide a seamless and unobtrusive experience for the customer. The food is also outstanding. I would recommend the 4 course meal. The Cumbrian breakfast was also very good with refills on coffee and toast on offer. The skills that this Executive Chef has is on par with some of the best chefs in London - I can say that with some confidence having worked and enjoyed food in the finest hotels ie. The Lanesborough, Dorchester, Ritz etc. The quality of the food belies the price (we expected to pay much more) - you should experience the food this venue has to offer. I saw afternoon tea being served and this look simply delicious...we will be visiting this venue again for afternoon tea in the coming weeks. All in all a fantastic short stay with our dog. We actually tried to hook another night such was our enjoyment however it was fully booked. Please visit this country house...you will not be disappointed. It lacks any kind of pomposity and defines itself by the simple things that many places now forget...ambience, customer service and a clear passion in providing the best experience to it's customers. When you add the excellent food and drink, together with the immaculate kept grounds you have the recipe for success.Absolutely fabulous, a real gem in the lakes.

We took advantage of our Tastecard to enjoy tow for one on the 4 course gourmet menu (£45) in the Brasserie at Broadoaks Country House. Canapes were taken in the cosy bar while making careful selection from the broad menu. The restaurant emits old world charm with dark wood panelled walls. We turned down the starter of frogs legs for the baked camembert and a seafood platter consisting of trout pate, gravlax, potted shrimp and crab rillete. A refreshing sorbet was followed by our main courses of rump of lakeland lamb and garlic and herb roasted corn fed chicken breast. The accompanying sources and vegetable dishes including fricassee of beans with smoked pancetta were mouth watering. The dark chocolate and ginger torte with rum and raisin ice cream and the lemon posset with rum poached figs finished an excellent meal. This was a truly excellent meal made all the better for use of the Tastecard.

It was a really laid back atmosphere and if we had wanted to we probably could have sat there and chatted all afternoon and there wouldnt have been any pressure on us to leave. It was a really enjoyable experience and I would definitely recommend it, and it was very reasonably priced, even without the voucher, the afternoon tea was a great price! I will definitely be returning here in the future, the only thing lacking was the weather but unfortunately nothing could be done about that!

We visited Broadoaks hotel for an afternoon tea with a vouchure from Groupon. It was a lovely afternoon when we arrived and were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who invited us to sit in the lounge whilst they prepared our afternoon tea.We were shortly shown to a conservatory which had lovely views to the surrounding hills. We had a chilled glass of pink sparkling wine and then the afternoon tea arrived. We have been for quite a lot of afternoon teas at various venues and this was a very nice one. There were four finger sandwiches each of various fillings smoked salmon, ham and chutney, and egg mayonaise and chees and pickle. There were quite a few cakes and some lovely little scones with clotted cream and jam.We had just arrived in the lakes for a few days visit and this was a lovely start to our little break. The staff were very courteous and friendly and asked quite a few times if were happy with everything. I would say it was a nice experience and would be a wonderful place for a private function such as a special anniversary or wedding.

No choice in upgrading to the normal high tea menu. The restricted menu leaves a lot to be desired in that it consists of 2 very small scones a small dish of jam and a small dish of cream. In our case the scones were undercooked

After having a lovely Groupon afternoon tea in November last year with my husband I decided that I would purchase a 2nd voucher for my father in laws 60th birthday treat. Even though it's redeemable for until 31st March the hotel are now saying that they are fully hooked for every Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday for the next month. They have offered a Monday afternoon ONLY which is unsuitable as both my in laws work. I know there are restrictions on these vouchers but this is ridiculous. The rude lady I spoke to has told me to go back to Groupon and get my money back as to squeeze another table in for two people would ruin the experience for the the guests attending their afternoon teas, what lovely helpful customer service NOT. What about ruining my fathers in laws experience. Would just like to say for a 5 star lakes hotel you truly have a unhelpful attitude and try putting on your Groupon advert earlier on that weekends are fully booked, as when I booked at the bought the voucher at the beginning of January there was nothing on there. Also don't sell the amount of vouchers you have if you can't accommodate for the demand. Very annoyed and upset more so at the management and staff attitude over this. Will not be visiting again or recommending.

As we drove up the drive we were impressed with the wonderful fountain, the beautifully manicured lawn and how grand the hotel looked. Inside the rooms were beautiful, on the right is the bar and there are many photographs of famous personalities and a photograph of the last fox hunt, taken on the drive in 1999. Interestingly there was no fountain then! The lounge is another beautiful room. Two fantastic pen and ink framed drawings hang in here depicting a humorous scene of an old lady driving a donkey driven cart to market with a basket of chickens and ducks. A fox has taken refuge a-top the basket and a pack of hounds are trying to get to it. The next picture shows the donkey galloping full pelt with the old lady trying to take control the hounds desperately trying to get the fox and the huntsman blowing his horn. A brilliant piece of art work, really funny.Anyway, afternoon tea; I agree that the orangery doesn't fit with the old building, but it is a nice light and airy room. The fine china is supposed to be distressed as it is very old and I think that it is nice to still be able to use them. We couldn't fault the food, everything was very delicious and plenty of it. The service was very attentive, the staff very friendly.I felt very much at home at this lovely Country house and would recommend it to all my family and friends.

I visited this Country house to have afternoon tea, to celebrate a special birthday! Having searched online & discovered this gem with a very impressive website, I had great expectations. Sadly the experience did not live up to this! The lady on reception was not at all friendly, & would benefit from a customer service course, the room in which we sat was quite shabby & in need of a "deep clean", & the afternoon tea itself was very poor. The crockery was not very clean, the bread was dry, & the cake stand itself had seen better days! All in all I was left very disappointed, having been looking forward to this very much.

we were greeted by a lovely lady who showed us and our teenagers to a table and asked which drink we would like. our afternoon tea arrived which was plentiful lots of variations in both the sandwiches and cakes. All were beautiful, we even asked if we could take the items we hadn't eaten home as they were soo nice that wasn't a problem. The receptionist even had a joke with our teenagers which was nice. we will be back

Georgeous and enormous - don't eat too much breakfast if you want to finish the afternoon tea. Lovely fresh produce, homemade jams and delicate sanwiches all washed down by a great selection of teas (or of course a glass of bubbly).

We took advantage of a discounted voucher to take afternoon tea with Prosecco at this hotel. We'd had tea at other hotels in the Lakes and had great hopes based on reviews on this site. The hotel is charming at the front but the UPVC conservatory area where the afternoon tea was served undid everything that was good about the traditional hotel. The tables and chairs looked tired & shabby and there were no tablecloths to disguise this. The food and drink were served quickly and the waitresses were polite. However the food was far below the bar set by other hotels. The scones were very hard and crumbled when you tried to add clotted cream and jam. The sandwiches had very little filling in them - particularly the cheese savoury which, when it fell open, had very little in it at all. Overall a really disappointing trip in the Lakes. If I'd paid full price I would have asked for a refund.

My friend and I visited for afternoon tea after a trip to Dove Cottage. On arrival we were quick,y shown to our table and asked what we would like to drink. I had the coffee, well at least I think that's what it was, a grey sludge is what it looked liked. Afternoon tea consisted of sandwiches (stale bread and funny taste), selection of cakes and some rock hard scones. We were just grateful we had got it through a deal and even then £12.50 a head was still too much for this place. Avoid.

Cold and smelled of dogs on arrival. Waited ages to be served and the waitress was more interested on who was at the bar rather than taking our table order for 10 people. Food was very salty and the steak pie in particular was terrible. Every meal as standard/basic or frozen style food. The whole place is run down and miserable. We went off trip advisor reviews as well on a visit to the area and wished we hadn’t. Go to The Pheasant Inn down the road at Allithwaite instead that was lovely food and fab service.

Well I won't be going back ,the food was awful ...the tomato ,basil and pesto soup had a horrible sharp but sugary sweet taste...the sandwich that came with it had the cheapest bright yellow " butter "on. ,a maximum of one slice of ham and the cheapest mustard . My 4 year old grandson could have made a better sandwich ! My husband had pie which had hardly any meat in it and the gravy was unusual tasting ( to say the least ) and sweet . I've had far superior microwave meals ! The toilets which were always an asset to the pub had gone downhill too.

My husband and I were staying at the nearby county hotel and decided to call in for a coffee on the way into the shopping area. The coffee was great and the millionaires slice was lovely. Service was very good.
