The Staff at this Restaurant are obviously hand picked. They are WONDERFUL from start to finish. You get a lovely warm greeting at the door, which IMHO is very important. We were impressed by the gorgeous food.I was a bit confused by the wine menu-staff were unerringly patient and kind.Everything explained carefully. No rush, close attention to detail. One thing I would like to mention-the happiness and warmth of the Chefs-their interaction with each other was a pleasure to see and reflected in the fine cuisine.

My wife and I went with another couple for dinner. The food was outstanding, although my wife’s beef was a little over. The staff were marvellous and very attentive all evening. The slight criticism we had was that we were on a table away from the main dining room which seemed to be the corridor to the kitchen. The constant clatter and procession of staff was some of a distraction. If booking request a table in the principal dining area.

An absolute fantastic experience at this restaurant the staff were super efficient almost like a military operation but so friendly and helpful with it Real choice of food from menu, no taster menu- fantastic. Food and wine was super tasty and filling Also not too expensive for a Michelin starred restaurant Been fortunate to go to a few Michelin starred restaurants and this was best by far

A perfect meal from start to finish. There’s no à la carte as such, rather a menu of three courses with various choices and tasty ‘snacks’ in between too. Highlights for us were the mains of aptly named pig and also stuffed skate. Enjoyed a couple of glasses of Gassac Blanc, a wine we hadn’t come across before. We were served by 5 different people, usually a recipe for disaster, but not this time. Everything was perfect, nothing forgotten or mixed up. The restaurant was full on a Friday lunchtime with loads of room between the tables too. A real birthday treat for one of us, especially when C’est La Vie by The Stereophonics came over the speakers!

Let's get one thing out of the way first. When you go to a Simon Rogan restaurant, you are going to be eating food of the highest standards, 10/10 on that front! What impressed us was, first, the professional ease of the staff, this is not an easy thing to get the balance right and only restaurants at the top of their game can do this. Second was the restaurant itself. Everything was just right from the lighting level, nice background music, and a nice amount of space between tables so you can sit in the company of your own table and not feel encroached upon by other patrons. Will I make the 292-mile round trip to go there again? Well, I certainly wouldn't rule it out 😉

We ate in this restaurant on our first night of our culinary tour of Cartmel. A lovely unpretentious restaurant. Great staff and team. Firstly the snacks were delicious and thoroughly enjoyed. The main 3 courses (accompanied by matching wines) were lovely. The freshness of the ingredients was amazing, grown on the farm and picked that day. A really special meal and deserving of its star

We ate here as part of dine and stay package, and this was one of the best dinner and breakfast. Both extremely superb. Food was just delicious, exquisitely presented! The Oakchurch Sour I had was absolutely amazing. I even tried out the English wine and it was just superb. Hubby had a lamb dish and that was just so tender. My skate was amazing and the mushroom saue was the perfect pairing. This is a great restaurant with really attentative staff. Well done

I visited this restaurant with my husband recently and we had very high expectations. We had previously been there before it had its Michelin rating and the food was excellent. After ordering cocktails we did not have time to drink them as we were being rushed through the menu. The appetisers and starters were very good, but it was all too frenetic. I had to ask for a break before the main meal. I ordered duck breast, but it came as a slither of a duck breast and the portion was tiny. Also on the plate was a piece of duck sausage meat which I found very unpleasant. We did not enjoy the constant explanations of every ingredient at each course. Some customers may like this and feel like it adds to the experience but we did not like having to listen to the explanations before we could start to eat. My chocolate tart dessert melted too quickly on the plate and was very average. When I told the staff that I was disappointed with my duck they removed the cost from the bill but I would rather have had a delicious meal and paid full price. My husband's main meal was good, he had the pork, but not exceptional. Our experience was not worth the high cost of the meal and we do not have any plans to return.

Welcoming staff who seemed very interested in chatting to you. However they said exactly the same thing to everyone and therefore lost that personal touch. The plates looked like works of art and while some were beautiful, others were challenging. I liked everything apart from my main course. It would have felt better in terms of recommending wine pairing, if I'd been asked what type of wine I like, as again it's all about personal taste. We heard from each team member about each vegetable we were eating coming from their own farm and that began to grate after the forth time. Several things on the menu came from miles away, the trout from Hampshire. Foraging for mushrooms done by someone in Scotland. I enjoyed my evening. There was no pretentiousness and we did have a couple of good conversations when we asked some questions. We don't often eat out as we cook a lot at home and value home grown produce and animal welfare. Also going out for me is a real treat. Staying in Cartmel it made sense to visit this restaurant and I was really looking forward to it. My experience is therefore mixed. I loved dressing for the occasion and the anticipation of eating at a Michelin star, but unlike The Walnut Tree in Abergavenny I don't think I'll return to this restaurant.

This is the third time we’ve visited Rogan and Co and we will definitely be returning again. After several very disappointing visits to other Michelin starred restaurants in the last couple of years (including one with 2 stars), we’ve decided to just stick with what we know! The service is attentive but not over the top. It’s special but not too formal, and not pretentious at all. The food was delicious and the menu was varied. Relatively small portions but lots of them, so left very full. We had 2 x 3-course meals, 3 glasses of wine, 2 cocktails and 2 non alcoholic drinks and spent £272 including tip.

It's very hard to fault the quality and presentation of the food offer at Rogan & Co - A couple of the dishes on the Valentine's day tasting menu were easily L'Enclume '2 star' standard - circa 2010-15? Though obviously not really comparable to L'Enclume today, it's the UK's best restaurant after all. Having dined at both comparatively recently. However & this one's been brewing for a while - why as a non-alcohol drinker do I have to struggle with drinks pairings when I'm enjoying the best quality restaurant food it's possible to find? It's starting to make me question both the value and enjoyability of these occasions. I don't want to have to chose between fizzy sodas or sweet fruit cocktails. I want to drink beverages that are crafted to hold their own in complexity, maturity, and uniqueness with any drink - alcohol based or not. With the added challenge that if it's not alcohol based, then you drink for taste, hydration & to slake thirst. Once you are hydrated and no longer thirsty - the drink won't taste nearly as good, unlike those that contain alcohol - which give the familiar alcohol buzz and often taste better the more you drink. I get that the mark-up on alcohol is almost certainly the difference between profitability and non-profitability; but the elephant in the room is that many more people aren't drinking nearly as much alcohol. 25% of under 25's haven't drunk any alcohol for a year & those that do, drink a lot less or at home, or use other.. stimulants. Rekom, the biggest nightclub group in the country have gone into administration, citing students not drinking as much alcohol and going out less. Low and no-alcohol beer, wine and spirit (NA) sales are booming. Yet you wouldn't know it going into anywhere from the local Wetherspoons, thru Cloud 23, Rogan & Co to L'Enclume. Where compared to the hugely extensive 'Everything from Appletini to Zinfandel' drinks lists, the NA options seem like an afterthought; or mixers & ingredients (for the food menu items or the many alcohol based cocktails & drinks offered) . Notwithstanding that L'Enclume does have a 'tea' based NA drinks flight. Being forced to drink cola as the least worst option, or sending someone to get Kombucha from L'Enclume to have something that goes with a £125 meal is no longer acceptable.

This is one of the eateries in the Rogan collection. But unlike L’enclume, you can have an a la carte menu rather than the full on tasting experience. That is not to say that it’s in any way worse than the Micheline star joint. Actually, in many ways its dishes and flavours are just as innovative. Personal highlights were beautifully prepared scallops, local lamb and greens, accompanied by a cracking Alberinio from Portugal, followed by a glass of Swedish Whiskey! Service was attentive, but not overbearing. And the staff really knew the menu and could describe every dish…..always a good sign. We are here after lock down eased and it’s still fantastic. And the setting - in the middle of Cartmel which is chocolate box pretty - is wonderful too. If you can get in, worth the visit.

Every course was Michelin quality, for myself and partner though, we really can’t fault anything, we will 100% be back, thank you for a lovely evening, and keep on doing, what your doing, you should be very proud. Having had an amazing meal at L’Enclume a few years ago we always wanted to head back to beautiful Cartmel and have a meal at the sister restaurant Rogan & Co. Again we were not disappointed, a fabulous meal with absolutely superb service from fairly young but extremely knowledgeable staff. Once again we stayed over on the Dine And Stay package and as previously we ended up with a room over L’Enclume Restaurant (albeit smaller than the last). I was hoping for a room elsewhere as the building is very old and you can hear everything going on in the restaurant underneath, however, as we finished eating fairly late it wasn’t a problem for us but it maybe for some. The room was very cosy and warm and spotlessly clean, a little on the small side for the price we thought. We were really looking forward to our breakfast served at Rogans, a few minutes walk from our room, we remembered the breakfast from our last stay which was absolutely delicious. It was quite disappointing as the traditional English breakfast of fried eggs, bacon, and wonderful local sausages etc had been replaced by cold Devilled eggs (odd choice) no sausages and home made spicy baked beans (you can’t mess with baked beans) which didn’t work for us plus the sourdough toast was very hard. I certainly would t mark it down for that because overall we had a fantastic time and the staff make up for a lot! Wouldn’t hesitate to go back again but may stay in one of the many lovely B&Bs nearby.

A wonderful treat for a special occasion. A tasting menu with a difference being given snacks, bread, a pre-dessert and petit fours but being given the option to choose starter, main and dessert from a carefully chosen selection. Staff were attentive but not intrusive. We never felt rushed but also didn't feel like we were left to sit too long either. We went a day after visiting L’Enclume. It provided a pleasant contrast. The food is very good, as you would expect. The atmosphere is much more relaxed. Staff are friendly and service is much more easy going. We particularly enjoyed the bread and butter (not something I would normally point out). The number of courses and cost is significantly less than its sibling. However, they are both superb places to eat and make a great pairing of contrasting styles and venues if you have a couple of nights and plan well ahead. If you cant plan well ahead you will find Rohan & Co much easier to get a booking in and it is still worth the trip to Cartmel.

Excellent fine dining experience in a delightfully bucolic setting. Service was friendly yet thoroughly professional. We were the first of two sittings, so there was always a risk that we would be rushed. Despite finishing our meal and vacating the place by 8.30pm, we didn't feel as though the pace of service was notably fast. Local produce features prominently, and the cooking is of a uniformly high standard, as befits its reputation. The dining area itself is perhaps a tad sparse but certainly fit for purpose.

Second time I've eaten here. Also eaten at L'Enclume. I prefer Rogan & Co - simpler, shorter and less pretentious. Service rapid - in and out in two hours. Lots of young staff, who were (as usual in high end restaurants) a mixture of the haughty, gauche and servile. As for the food, interesting, imaginative and unusual. But here's my quibble. When the onion soup with cheese dumplings arrived (they didn't call it soup - why?) it was intensely over salted. I thought this was a glitsch, until the lamb course. The gravy (of course they called it jus) was over salted as well. You may well say, "Amounts of salt are a matter of taste", and that might have been true had it not been for the fact that there was so much salt in the jus that YOU COULDN'T TASTE THE LAMB! That's not a simple preference. It's just a mistake, and a very basic one. Not many dead. Not a massive deal. But we paid nearly £250 for dinner and one third of mine was ruined. GET WITH THE PROJECT MR. ROGAN! TOO MUCH SALT RUINS FOOD!

Everything was perfect, friendly efficient service, amazing food, a very fair service charge of 10% and tap water on the table. Was not cheap overall but one of our best meals, really unusual flavours and textures. Prefer this format of 3 courses plus a few extras than countless number of courses most of which are basically a canapé. This part of Cumbria is a good food wilderness apart from Simon Rogan's restaurants. Nice to see all the staff appeared to be local and were passionate about their roles.

Everything about my experience tonight was just wonderful! Staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. Music was a non intrusive mixture of rock and indie (Rolling Stones up to 00's ish hits). I decided to push my own boundaries a bit and tried eel for the first time (I'm in my mid 30's if that helps) and it was flippin gorgeous! This is one of the places to try something you wouldn't normally. Dad was very happy with his nastertium leaf negroni which really grew on him. I was delighted with my rhubarb based cocktail I can't remember the full name of. The wines that were excellently paired with each course (for an additional £45pp which I recommend you do) aren't helping my memory here. Admittedly, it was my Dad's £45, so take that as you will 😏 Food wise we had - Snacks: Whipped cod's roe & nori tartlet Parmesan sable, pickled garlic & spinach cream Truffle pudding, pickled walnut Starters: Old Winchester cheese dumplings, onion dashi, lemon thyme (umami flavours ftw) Caramelised potato, smoked eel, buttermilk & dill (Smokey meaty deliciousness!) Mains: Stuffed Goosnargh guinea hen, lettuce, purple Milan turnip, tarragon (a staff favourite I'm told - understandably so) Herdwick lamb, creamed potato, farm chard, wild garlic (the most tender lamb my Dad's ever had, and he's quite the fussy foodie!) Pre-Dessert: Zaino courgette, apple & sweet cheese (a small mousse with "snow" on top. Cute, and does a delectable job of cleansing one's pallette) Dessert: Peach leaf sandwich, Aynsome currants (if you like almond-y flavours and fruity cold desserts, I highly recommend!) Baked vanilla cheesecake with lightly spiced pineapple (this also has some almond. Cheesecake is my Dad's favourite thing, his face was a picture of joyful delight) We finished off with white tea, hot chocolate, and a surprise square of white chocolate and caramel fudge, topped with sea salt. Pop the whole thing into your mouth, and allow it to dissolve. You're welcome in advance.

We met up with friends in Cartmel and they had booked a meal here. It's not what we would normally choose as it's not dog friendly. The food was amazing, really tasty and fresh with extra in between courses that had unexpected ingredients, all beautifully presented. I found the service a bit over the top, rushed and a little claustrophobic at times. All in all a memorable experience, but one which won't be repeated too often. Thanks.

What a fantastic dining experience we had! Each course is beautifully presented - I hardly wanted to mess it up with a bite but of course that’s impossible because the aromas and colors. The addition of flowers as not just garnish but as an edible part of the dish was so fun - never eaten a chrysanthemum before. Highly recommend the wine pairing. The service was just as great and not overly fussy which I liked. It’s the little touches that make this place different and it didn’t disappoint.

My partner brought me here for my birthday on the 11th July. From the minute we stepped through the door the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The lady hosting wished me a happy birthday and explained how the evening would go. The drinks were fantastic, me having the rhubarb sour and my partner having the old fashioned. The snacks came first, small bites full of flavour and different textures. I absolutely loved the Whipped cods roe & nori tartlet, the truffle pudding is like nothing iv tried before but would love to have again! To start I had the caramelised potato and smoked eel. A beautiful looking dish packing a punch of dill with the sweet buttery potato and smokiness of the eel. My partner having the crispy chicken wing ( we tried each others dishes all evening) A simple dish with so much flavour. The wings were cooked to perfection with the most amazing crispy skin. The pickled trompettes underneath being a perfect addition along side the preserved beans. For the mains we both went for the meat, me having the lamb and him having the short rib. Both dishes executed wonderfully, the sauces on both dishes were insanely tasty. Lamb pink and juicy, short rib just melted in your mouth. In between the courses we had a little pallete cleanser. Courgette, apple & sweet cheese. Just a little pot of coolness and freshness with a hint of sweet apple flavours which did a spot on job. For desert I had the mascapone cake with cherries and he had the baked vanilla cheesecake with spiced pineapple. The fruit on both dishes was so fresh and juicy, neither were too sweet or tart but just right. Both presented well and rounded off our lovely meal. I'd like to give a little shout out to Brandon. We thought he was fantastic and super friendly. All the staff were polite and so knowledgeable about the food and drink. What a fantastic team you have at Rogan & Co. Thank you all for a wonderful birthday Meal.

We have been here several times over the years, when holidaying locally, and this is a must for a good meal out. The regularly changing menu is short, as is the drinks menu, but it works well. Very good dishes, served by friendly and efficient...

Great food and service, staff absolutely lovely. Great attention to detail everywhere in this restaurant. Had dietary requirements which were catered for with care including a phone call to check details and then an individual printed menu! My husband was given a tasty little extra treat as it was his birthday. Lovely experience. Thankyou.

A cosy restaurant with good friendly service, very helpful. The food was great. I had the fried seafood which was fresh and hot. The best squid I’ve had in a long time. You’ll find it down an alley. It’s well worth finding it.

Stopped here for lunch and I had the hunters chicken ciabatta with sweet potato fries. It was very nice indeed. My only complaint was that I got a bone in the chicken which I was going to point out but no-one came to us to ask how our meal was or to take our dishes away, the staff were upstairs as it was closing time and they were clearing up (I assume). When we went to pay for it the girl didn't ask if everthing was ok or how our meal was so I didn't bother saying anything. It didn't stop me from enjoying my meal or my time spent here.

What a lovely place! Had to stop off to get some puddings from the heart of where they are from. A gorgeous little village and so nice to be able to support them direct instead of buying from a big chain like we usually do.
