We were a party of 13 people staying at the hotel for several nights for our wedding. This has been an event in the planning for the last 18 months and Louise has been so accommodating throughout. From the very beginning when looking at choice of rooms etc and once it finally arrived Louise was exceptional in making sure we and all our guests were well looked after. We can not recommend them enough and will certainly be back.

My sister and I came for dinner last night…the service was appalling. The waitresses( apart from the small dark haired one) were surly and silent, only coming to us if we signaled. Not one word was spoken …,.and when we asked to split the bill, the blonde waitress sighed impatiently and snatched the bill back, clearly finding this request just too much. The food was lovely but spoilt by the rude staff.

This restaurant serves wonderful food in an elegant setting. The decor is clean and modern, in marked contrast to the building's very traditional exterior. Service was careful and attentive, prices were reasonable for the quality of the food (similar to other places in the area that aren't nearly as nice). Overall, an excellent dining experience.

Lovely hotel, great service and very comfortable. The property is very well upholstered, is in tip top condition, which is probably helped by the no dogs policy. The restaurant meals we had were of a high standard, including breakfast, cooked food always piping hot. Situated in lovely landscaped gardens overlooking Lake Grasmere, gave us the relaxing stay we were looking for.

3 night stay. Lovely lady at desk when we first arrived and showed us to our room. After this we never saw anyone at reception again. Room appeared nice but drains in shower room were blocked so ended up like a swimming pool, water practically running out into bedroom. Service at breakfast awful. 40 minute wait for food. Staff unfriendly and and surly when manager not around. Shown to dining table first morning in front of manager then next day when she wasn't there told to'go and find table yourselves'. Handed room key back this morning after searching for staff member and received a grunt from him in reply. Room had beautiful view and bed very comfy but definitely not worth the money. Horrible atmosphere in dining room/bar so avoided them and ate dinner elsewhere. Much nicer, more reasonably priced hotels in grasmere. Would not stay at 'grand' again.

I have mixed feelings about our 2 night stay here. Detailed review below :) Pros -great facility. Hotel is very new and has AC and very comfy seating in their common area. The bathroom and beds were all very comfortable -quality breakfast, lots of variety included within the breakfast packet -perfect location. It’s a 3 minute walk from the town center, but far enough away for beautiful views and calm mornings Cons -understaffed or poor service. I couldn’t tell if the service wasn’t good or if they just didn’t have enough help. No one was ever at the front desk or offered us basic tourist information. We checked in late at 10pm and we were locked out with no staff visible even though it said in their email we could check in as late at 12am. We had to call their emergency cell to get someone to the front. Also our first breakfast here we sat and then we’re questioned multiple times if we were staying there and what rooms. I think the restaurant used to be open to the public, which it isn’t anymore, but I didn’t see them questioning any of the other guests as much as us. We were the only non-white guests that I saw there so maybe that had something to do with it, but the next morning they recognized us and we had no trouble with the service after that. -no lift. I’m not sure if you can call yourself “luxury” if you put your guests on the third floor and make them lug all their luggage up 2 flights of very narrow twisted stairs. For my elderly aunt they did help her, but did not offer for the rest of us. Overall, it was an ok experience. I loved the rooms and the location, but I think I could find better service and experience elsewhere. There are so many cute inns here, just choose another.

Just had a 2 night stay here with my husband and we can say the breakfasts were outstanding, with beautiful views across the gardens towards the lake and hills. There was plenty of choice and everything was freshly cooked to order. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection...poached eggs to die for! The service was excellent, friendly and quick. (I think.....but I'm not sure that our breakfast server was called Maggie) she was from Bulgaria..... anyway she was so cheerful and attentive. The kitchen was open plan and the 3 chefs we saw were very friendly too. We ate in the hotel on our second night but went out for our first nights meal but after experiencing the hotel restaurants food we wished we had eaten at the hotel on both nights. The food was excellent we could not have asked for a lovelier meal. George our server was so friendly and helpful he was very attentive and a really nice guy. My husband had duck salad starter and teriyaki salmon, I had smoked salmon starter and chicken supreme main course. We had a bottle of Bardolino rose and the best cappuccino we've ever had and some delicious home made truffles......absolutely gorgeous! We can highly recommend! We will definitely be back again.

The food, setting and decor were all fantastic. We both had the lamb rump which was exceptionally good, decent portions, not a bad word to say. Gorgeous setting with stunning views and the hotel seems beautifully finished. However the service was very much lacking which tainted the experience slightly for us. Yes it was a quiet Tuesday but our waitress was abrupt, unfriendly and largely unavailable. We finished eating at 9 but the waitress had finished her shift so left on the dot and no one else was around so we had to get up to search out someone to pay. A tip was included in the bill, if discretionary I feel that the staff may be inclined to up their game a bit.

The food here is just great; we shared the homemade hummus, the lamb rump and a boeuf stroganoff (special of the day) - and had a bottle of shiraz (La Mura, Sicily) to accompany that. All were perfectly cooked (and portions highly generous) - especially the boeuf stroganoff was out of this world. The service was professional (they seemed to actually be happy to be present) and supported the ambience of this restaurant; bright comfortable spacious design and panorama windows with view of the mountains and river Rothay. This place makes you feel zen-stuffed happy. We stayed at a B&B but managed to reserve a table here as 'non residents'.

Booked a meal here while staying at another nearby hotel. The service was prompt, the restaurant very bright and airy with nice views, and the kitchen was open plan and the chef’s efforts were there to see throughout. The menu had a good level of variation and we had no difficulty selecting a dish. The Chicken Milanese was perfect as was the Summer pudding. Not the cheapest restaurant around, but you get what you pay for. A thoroughly enjoyable experience and I would certainly return.

We had the most amazing few days stay, at the Grand Hotel, in Grasmere. We stayed in room 44, which was a Classic Lodge. This was one of 5 lodges, just off the main hotel. The room did not disappoint, super, comfy king size bed, bath and shower with Molton Brown shower/bath and hand-wash. Breakfast was included. We had our evening meals in the hotel restaurant. All our food was absolutely delicious. We had a starter each. Classic Seafood Cocktail - Dressed crab, crayfish, avocado mousse, lettuce & Marie Rose dressing. Crispy Duck - shredded duck leg, julienne of vegetables & egg noodles salad with hoi sin & sesame seed sauce. For our main, we had the, Chateaubriand - Fillet of beef cooked to your liking, served with chips, roquette , heritage tomato salad, buttered seasonal vegetables & peppercorn sauce. Perfect to share between two. Absolutely superb. Louise, hotel manager is so lovely, very welcoming, polite and friendly. Her staff, were so friendly, helpful and attentive. They couldn't do enough for you. We bumped into Louise just outside the hotel, our first morning out. She advised us both of a lovely walk around Rydal Water. We was not disappointed. Would highly recommend hotel Grand, and will most definitely return. Thanks for a lovely stay. Date of stay: October 2021

Came here and found it they only start serving lunch at one pm. As it was a nice day we decided to sit on one of the benches. Ordered tea and waited for 20 mins. Came 1pm and I decided to order at the bar. Had to wait for 15 mins before manager came round. They had one guy doing all the serving. Great chap but nevertheless he was on his own. So needless to say slow service. Hubby’s club sandwich was alright. My Caesar salad was fine. No anchovies but with tons of Parmesan. And I meant tons. Really can’t go wrong with this but they did. So it was alright but what a view though.

Extremely disappointed. Booked my wife's birthday supper here on the strength of the reviews but oh what a mistake. Unfriendly waiting staff, starters delivered at the same time as the mains (with the starter missing a key accompaniment, leading to our mains getting cold as we waited for the missing item to be brought), and only average food. The restaurant (and hotel) is in lovely settings, and the interior is nicely done, but service and food are hugely lacking. Will be coming back to Grasmere but certainly not to this place.

Great Staff who coped extremely well with the flow of people who wished to eat in this restaurant. Always lovely to sit in this place and admire the view the food was good I wouldn't say exceptional but there was usually something to tempt our taste buds, Would like to have seen more local produce such as lamb or venison but I was told that the menu in the new year is going to be enlarged. Covid was well observed tables cleaned after each serving cutlery brought to your table once seated. Good food maybe could do with more variety with the vegetables the wine list was also good. A nice place to have a meal especially when the sun is shining. The staff have to be praised for their hard work and dlilgence.

Stayed in Keswick for a week and somewhat disappointed with food options. Once we discovered this place by accident for lunch we ended up dining there on our last 2 nights. We stayed nearby and decided to try the food here for a change given the great reviews. We wouldn’t choose to eat here again. The lady on reception was rather unhelpful and just assumed we knew which way to go when we arrived. She directed us rather than taking us. Although it wasn’t far, it would have been nice to have been shown to the restaurant. She also told us to choose a table. As we chose a table we were greeted by a rather grumpy waiter who showed us to another table. The menu wasn’t extensive but there were a range of dishes to choose from. I wouldn’t recommend the potted shrimp...quite frankly the worst dish I have ever have chosen in a restaurant. A cold jar of jelly-fied fish like paste! The Thai curry and chocolate mousse however was lovely! The food is average, was served very quickly (almost too quickly between courses) and could be better. The restaurant also feels very clinical and perhaps suited more to guests of the hotel than by passers. Slightly overpriced and unlikely to visit again. The views from the restaurant however are INCREDIBLE!

I've never left a review part way through a stay somewhere, but I can't unfortunately see how my experience will improve. Upon arrival were high expectations as greeting was 1st class and the hotel surroundings can't be beaten. But after this went downhill. Poorly maintained and not detail cleaned room. From cobwebs in corners, to a wall that is flaking away possibly due to water damage and potential mould which is no good. Dangerous chairs indoors as the legs are at an angle so one sit on them and you'd be on the floor. Patio was a great highlight, but had a constantly leaking pipe running on to it, surely this pipe should be connected to the drain which is only mere feet away. And a leaking gutter which in the rain creates a loud dripping noise. Pictures attached of these issues and as booked a 'superior lodge' were not expected. Breakfast is to me the most important meal of the day as sets you up on holiday, the experience though was abysmal after just 2 days. On day 1 was OK, but part of the order did not come, only toast but still this matters. On day 2 it was unbearably hot in the dining room and it seems the air conditioning doesn't work or is not utilised. Also on day 2 due to the heat we asked if we could instead move outdoors as was a free table. Was explained not possible even though others were sat outside, and yet 5 minutes later someone sits outside and walks in for service and is told will be right with you? Not acceptable to treat guests this way and lie. Even prior to the stay was a bit shambolic as booked when VAT was 20% and when emailed the hotel to query what was happening to my cost when VAT was cut to 5% this was never responded to. Further more the day before the stay I got an email from the hotel increasing the cost of the stay by £120?? Looking then at the new bill VAT was listed as 5%, but they just added the difference to the room rate so I was charged the same. I understand businesses have gone through some difficult times recently, but at the same time they need to be honest with their customers and say if they are passing on the VAT cut or keeping the money themselves and adjusting bills 'behind the scenes'. Have always been an honest reviewer and if look at my other reviews will often see 5* so all of this is accurate. I came here with 5* expectations after doing my research, but was woefully disappointed so 2* is the best I can offer. DAY 3 UPDATE - Some of concerns were raised with reception and apology was given so appreciated this somewhat. Was advised eating outside is an absolutely fine option. Explained that we had a dinner reservation the following night and were concerned about the heat in the restaurant and agreed to reserve an outdoor table which was appreciated. DAY 4 UPDATE - Much better breakfast experience, served by different waiter so likely helped. Did arrive for dinner which was booked and we highlighted this to the first waiter we saw that was for food and was able to have an outdoor table, though after the initial drinks order we had to get someone's attention after a patient 30 minute wait to request placing our food order. Again the place seems confused when it comes to outdoor eating. Food VS price did not match expectations and had much better meals in Lewis's bistro and Misto in Ambleside at similar price points. I rarely eat in hotels as I find them lazy with food as they feel they have a captive audience, this was my thought here. So despite an improved day 3 which after had considered a rating upgrade have still only felt comfortable with the 2* been retained. DAY 5 (departure day) UPDATE - Another hot morning in the restaurant for breakfast as air conditioning not working was advised. Asked for brown bread toast and got white. Partners breakfast order not put through so only mine arrived at 1st. Staff are very apologetic, but has just been too many times things have gone wrong so can't give the benefit of the doubt anymore. Shall not be staying again and would not recommend anyone stay here who has certain high expectations.

Based on the T.A reviews, we recently had an evening meal here whilst staying locally in order to try somewhere else other than just the restaurant of our hotel. We had fairly high expectations for really decent food given the high praise, but unfortunately for us there were a number of things that fell flat. The building interior is very modern & looks really nice, & the views over the lake during daylight hours are beautiful too. On arrival there was no-one at the reception desk so we didn't really know where to go once we were in the building; since we had booked a table we expected to find someone that would greet us & either take us to the table or offer us a drink at the bar - neither happened. We found our way to the bar and were greeted by the extremely moody barman who seemingly didn't care that we were there for dinner. After getting a drink we then had to flag down a waiter to say about our dinner booking and he then went to check if the table was available. We had already looked at the menu online so vaguely knew what we would be ordering - for starter I had the scallops & my husband had the pork belly, both were nice but the scallops were overcooked, which was a shame. For main, I had the fillet steak and my husband had the burger - the portion sizes were huge! Both were cooked really nicely but there were far too many chips - we both have good appetites & we'd walked 10miles that day but we both struggled and ended up leaving a lot of chips. We watched some of the tables around us & everyone that ordered a meal with chips left some on the plate - the waste from the kitchen must be incredible! Since its nice to finish with something sweet, we ordered a dessert to share - it was sickly sweet though, far far too much sugar! The last thing that we found surprising was, although they advertise that they only accept card payments (no cash), we were unable to pay on the normal machine with Amex. Instead, the waiter had to go through a whole rigmarole to set us up an account in order to accept an Amex payment which took about 10 minutes extra. He was really apologetic throughout, but if you refuse to accept cash and only allow card payments, the least they should do is allow all types of card payment on their standard machine. Very strange! Although it depends what you're after, for us this wasn't the best food in Grasmere, nor anything close to. It offers good pub grub and is better than most pub chain food offerings but isn't gastronomy level. Wouldn't rush back & not sure we'd recommend too highly to anyone without a pub food caveat.

Had a great stay at this beautifully presented hotel. The dual aspect bedroom had a high standard of furnishings, as per the public spaces. The bed had an amazingly comfortable mattress, facilities plentiful and it was lovely to be able to sit in the bay window overlooking the wonderful mountains and village church which chimes out a hymn twice a day and was an absolute treat when we visited Wordsworth's grave. The Grand is the perfect quiet location from which to walk into Grasmere and later to dine overlooking the lake. The restaurant food produced from the visible open kitchen was absolutely superb.

Service in general was v good. Food options were varied, with us selecting Thai and traditional British roast. All the food was well cooked and very tasty. Lots of gluten free options.

'Probably' the best hotel in Grasmere! Beautiful contemporary decor I get lounge & bar areas. Room & bathroom beautiful too. Attentive but not overbearing staff. Great choice and quality breakfasts. First class dinner. We had seafood sharing platter, excellent value. For mains we had salmon, which was cooked to perfection, with Kimchi and rice, delicious! Excellent gift section. Can definitely recommend a stay or a meal here.

Selected this restaurant after reading good reviews and we weren't dissapointed. Lovely setting, very nicely furnished and very friendly staff. The menu choice was excellent with good gluten free options for my wife. We had a lovely evening.

A chicken noodle soup starter and pavlova dessert were flavoursome and zesty; the gammon special with pineapple, chips and broccoli was neither here nor there but satisfying and exactly what it said on the tin. Overall, an enjoyable and palatable meal. The airport lounge aesthetic of the seating is more than mitigated by the spectacular Grasmere views through the large window panels on one side, and the reassuringly semi-open kitchen on the other. The service was brisk, busy, efficient and friendly, contributing to an overall upbeat experience. Good value.

If you’re in the Lakes, don’t miss out on this place. Unbelievably understated on both trip adviser and their own website for what is outstanding food.

A lovely venue, recently refurbished with friendly staff and an open plan kitchen. The food is made (if you sit at the right table) basically in front of you, and the quality is excellent. However, the entire restaurant is let down by an unparalleled level of awful service. It took us 20 minutes to get sat down for a reservation, as tables were not being cleared. Ordering drinks was both a battle and a lottery. Despite best efforts, we only succeeded in getting one small glass of rose, which ironically was the one thing we didn't attempt to order. It took 50 minutes for our mains to be cleared, and another 20 minutes to extract a dessert menu. I would recommend for the food quality, but only if you have many hours clear ahead of you!

Location is really nice and interior is modern and well done. Prices for and drink are unjustifiably high. This is Grasmere not London (still high for London, £16 for the burger) and even if it were, the quality certainly doesn't justify the prices. I think they need to take a few £'s off at least and increase portion sizes. Seems to be true of several other places in Grasmere, probably not reliant upon repeat custom.

We were the only diners whilst we had lunch today. We sat in a quiet corner of the restaurant with beautiful views from the windows. We had an excellent lunch & a very friendly waitress looked after us very well. I had gammon with egg, pineapple & the best chips I have tasted for a long time. My husband had fish & chips & was equally impressed. The prices of the mains were less than we have paid in far poorer quality pubs in the area & so very good value. We were surprised at how quiet it was & enjoyed a peaceful meal - apart from rather loud intrusive music from the sound system!

First time to this lovely hotel in a quiet location in Grasmere. Came with friends who live locally to celebrate a 60th Birthday! Food was great and attendance by young Victoria added to the occasion. We all enjoyed our choice from the menu and the sunset was an added bonus! The hotel is down on our list for the next time we're in the Lakes.

This is an amazing little restaurant we stumbled across. The restaurant and hotel have recently been redecorated and have a lovely modern feel with stunning views across the lake. All the staff are very pleasant and attentive to all your needs. A group of us booked for a Sunday roast and it was fantastic, sadly the restaurant only offered us beef - but it was delicious, very nicely cooked pink but tender also the vegetables were done to perfection. It was so good we returned the following evening to have another delicious meal and before the week we will probably go back again. Give it a go.

We enjoyed lunch here as part of our stay on 18/5/19 and enjoyed the food very much. The (seemingly all foreign) staff are very friendly and attentive, and the food quality is superb, if a little pricey, like most things here.

Decided to book the restaurant for the last night of our stay in Grasmere. Was shown to our table straightaway, but had an almost 15 minute wait until somebody came over and took our order, and that was only because my friend sought him out. A couple who arrived after us had their drinks order taken, and then their food order taken before anybody approached us. The restaurant wasn’t particularly busy either and people were being served and attended to around us. We thought that perhaps this was because we were not staying at the hotel. The food, however, was lovely and it was a shame that this was not matched with the service.

Perfect hotel for exploring the Lake District. Centrally located in Grasmere village with stunning mountain and lake views. All rooms are finished to a high spec, both in the hotel and in the larger family rooms across the garden in the lodge. The food in the restaurant is delicious and cooked to an extremely high standard, staff are very friendly and always helpful. This hotel is really hard to beat. Recommend for families, couples and walkers ( boot room for drying muddy boots etc).

We stayed at The Grand on a recent trip to the Lakes, in The Lodge. It was a wonderful place to stay and we'd definitely return. Our Classic Lodge room was spacious and had plenty of storage. The bed was massive! The Nespresso machine went down well, and it was great to be able to access Netflix on the TV after a day of walking. Breakfast is a definite highlight. The restaurant is situated with fabulous views across Grasmere. Good choice of hot drinks, a range of continental options and a menu with cooked breakfast options. The avocado on toast, served with poached eggs was very tasty - and my fiancé thought the scrambled eggs were delicious. The only downside is that, on our arrival, the bin in the room hadn't been emptied and still had the rubbish from the previous guests, but that was rectified the following day. I love the location of the hotel. Grasmere is a beautiful little village in the Lake District, and there are plenty of lovely walks around. In particular, a circular walk from Grasmere to Rydal along the coffin trail, and returning via Loughrigg Terrace - and also hiking up to Alcock Tarn. The views are incredible and well worth the climb! :-)

Cafe Grand is a great place for a casual lunch or dinner, the restaurant is modern, the variety and quality of food is excellent, and all served whilst you look out over the lake and or the Lakeland fells. The staff are friendly and the service was excellent. A great relaxed and enjoyable dinning experience.

Called in for lunch. Really impressed with the beautiful decor throughout the downstairs. Very nice atmosphere and great, professional service. We enjoyed some chipolatas to start (they were good but would have been even nicer if they had been cooked for longer). We had roast beef and cottage pie mains. They were both excellent. Everything was cooked well, very tasty and nicely presented. We were then bowled over even more by the superb desserts.....coconut rice pudding and creme brulee - and agreed they were some of the best desserts we have ever had. What a find this place is. Highly recommend and we are now keen to look into staying here overnight.

We stayed one night at this lovely hotel. The ambiance and welcome by staff is truly wonderful and a great start to your stay. The bedroom was spaucious, tastfully decorated. The room had tea and coffee making facilities and the bathroom was stocked well with Molton Brown products. The lounge area is very comfortable, warm and with lovely views. We ate in the restaurant in the evening, which once again was really nice, good quality, rich tasting food, but expensive. The breakfast is plentiful with a great choice, with once again great views of the hillside. Staff are great and enthusiastic. Grasmere , itself is small and quaint, probably more suitable for fell walkers, with one or two local shops. Overall great hotel.

Popped in Kendal while on route to the Lake District by local recommendation. As we wanted a dog friendly venue. food was amazing staff very polite and attentive. Great atmosphere. Allergy compliant as one of the party had an egg allergy and the other was gluten intolerant both had great food and the staff was very aware of allergy requirements. Water bowl supplied for our dogs as well. Very good menus for vegetarians and people with allergy’s.

Stopped here for lunch and I had the hunters chicken ciabatta with sweet potato fries. It was very nice indeed. My only complaint was that I got a bone in the chicken which I was going to point out but no-one came to us to ask how our meal was or to take our dishes away, the staff were upstairs as it was closing time and they were clearing up (I assume). When we went to pay for it the girl didn't ask if everthing was ok or how our meal was so I didn't bother saying anything. It didn't stop me from enjoying my meal or my time spent here.
