The Rookery Vegetarian Cafe Bar & Salon in South Lakeland

This is the second time that we have visited this lovely place , and it was as brilliant as the first time. The Manager and staff are so lovely and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. They do all their own baking on the premises and the hot chocolate is amazing. It is situated next to Booth's at Windermere train station. When you're in the area you must call in, they also have activities in the evening , ie board games, Celtic nights etc, and absolute gem of a place

Great healthy food, lovely atmosphere and design. Beats the supermarket cafe next door! Lentil and veg soup was delicious.

Reluctantly stopped off for a supermarket sandwich whilst travelling. Noticed this place instead. Called in hoping for wholesome, healthy, vegetarian food to take away. Wasn’t disappointed. Friendly helpful staff, lovely food, great value.

Friendly place, great vegetarian food and selection of soft drinks, good coffee and super attention to detail and thoughtful touches. Also sone fun evenings like Celtic night and board games evening. All round excellent and you must try it!

This cafe has such a nice feel to it, with nice food, fantastic coffee, helpful staff. It's spacious and light with lots of lovely details in the decor.

This is a terrific place with exceptional coffee, served by staff who really know their craft. The manager from New Zealand has a plait in his beard, a big heart and could not have been more kind & helpful. Great place, lovely people!

One of the best coffees I’ve had since I lived in Colombia. The Barista/owner had a good range of coffees beans and was very helpful and knowledgeable. Although we didn’t try any of the food on offer the menu looked good. A very clean and well presented establishment, and a place I have no hesitation recommending.

Delicious lunch. Great to find somewhere doing home cooked veggie/vegan food in Windermere. We had salads and quiche and fab vegan double chocolate cake..... not to be missed.

I had to come here as you don’t get many vegetarian restaurants where I live ! The atmosphere was nice and the food/drinks. Very friendly also and gave me tips on where to go on nice walks :)

My friend and I came across this place on the way to Windermere Train Station on Sunday 17th September 2023. What a find. Such a lovely, artisan kind of establishment. We had an absolutely gorgeous hot chocolate and the most devine, soft carrot cake. Oh my, we were in heaven. As we had to rush to get our train, we were offered a takeaway cup for our hot chocolate, amazing. We absolutely loved this place and will return when we can to sample the rest of their menu. Well done guys 😃😃

service: + one waiter very nice, recommended lovely shiraz wine which was yum - one waiter not so nice, slightly off / abrasive vibes, when asked if they had the option of vanilla syrup for latte, visibly scoffed “we don’t do that here” - okay pal … would only refer to milk as “cows milk” and actually corrected me for asking for normal milk, whatever makes him feel good tho …. consistent hostile vibes, did not look away from mobile when asked a polite question food: + lovely food, very reasonably priced and well presented + coffee lovely atmosphere: + really well decorated interior in a nice spot - somewhat impacted by bizarre server but not massively - sign on a chalkboard saying “no laptops” … i simply do not understand this mindset, surely the point of a cafe is a relaxed space that people can do their own thing in, why the arbitrary oppression - no word of a lie i think they might have a wasps nest in the woodwork (is a lovely old building), because there were many wasps in the cafe, every time i would kill one, 2 more would appear (of course strange server came over to interfere and reopened the window we had closed telling us this will “suck them out” :))))

What an amazing find, we had been up to see the view at Orrest Head and wanted some refreshment. The Rookery is a very welcoming café, with a calm and relaxed atmosphere, and dog friendly. We enjoyed coffee, tea and cake. The menu board was interesting and the the ingredients are sourced locally. We will be back to have lunch, I fancy trying the prison soup!

Can't believe I have only just discovered this place. Fantastic food, service, atmosphere - and great staff! Looking forward to returning for board game night.

This vegetarian restaurant / cafe is pure class. Bright clean surroundings in a convenient setting ( near parking in Booths supermarket). The Mushroom / Blue cheese quiche was the best I’ve ever had ( and I’ve had a lot of quiche!). And the minestrone soup was delicious. Very friendly and helpful staff. Couldn’t be more highly recommended.

Great opportunity to combine time for haircut, in the hands of craftsman Shane, then on to an excellent veggie lunch and fine Assam tea. Not a coffee drinker but lots of quality coffees on option. Imaginatively and heartfully designed. Lovely workforce. What’s not to like.

Stopped in on a rainy afternoon and had the perfect lunch. Brent took such good care of us, making sure we got the vegan food we requested. It was all so delicious—the soups, salads, teas, bread, everything. The atmosphere is warm and relaxing. I highly recommend it!

Beautiful space, incredible coffee and friendly atmosphere! What a gem of a place to stumble upon right next to Booths. I went to one of their live music nights and it was brilliant.

We’ve just eaten at the Rookery. Vegetarian/vegan specialists. Food was top notch. Great selection of craft beers and wines, and the staff are brilliant. Can’t praise it enough. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Weak, flavourless coffee. Very little available in the way of food. No atmosphere at all. Staff stood around aimlessly. Toast the new coffee bar down on high street much better for a decent coffee. Or even Booths!

Excellent!! Right next to Booths, so easy parking. Vegetarian cafe. Dog friendly too. Very nice staff. We both had quiche - different types, and we both said it was the best quiche we've ever had!! So fresh and tasty. The coffee was superb as well....

6 of us and 3 dogs came for coffee and some cake. The owners were really welcoming and knew their stuff when it came to coffee (they have more than one option for the beans), and the coffee was excellent. They have loads of events...
