A family run business with a warm welcome, drinks offered straight away along with the menus. The menu offered a bit of everything single meat choice or a trio, I went for the chicken with black pudding with pepper sauce you can have veg or...
A welcoming place. Tables downstairs and upstairs. Toilet upstairs.
There are public accessible toilets 200 yards away opposite the post office.
Pancakes and fruit wow.
Staying locally so walked, large pub with great sun trap beer garden. Friendly service, decent pint of Guinness. Very dog friendly in the bar and garden, few water bowls provided. Had the biggest gammon steak I’ve ever eaten. Reasonably priced as well.

Behind the 'local pub' facade this place is a little gem. Service is second to none, friendly and efficient. Nothing too much trouble. Food was extremely tasty. Definitely bistro food, not just your usual pub food. Will certainly recommend and come back.
Great prices on spirits. Lovely selection of real ale. Great Beer garden overlooking the river. Very busy bar filled with locals and dogs. Lovely separate lounge with double doors onto a beer garden. No loud music. Old music videos on tvs but not turned up loud (good!) monthly live music on Sunday afternoons.
We booked a festive afternoon tea back in October and arrived today to find our corner table reserved for us and beautifully laid with China crockery complete with Christmas crackers.
We enjoyed hot turkey, stuffing and cranberry sandwiches and fruit scones served with huge pots of fresh cream and strawberry jam. A mince pie each and chocolate fudge cake for my hubby and a slice of homemade Christmas cake for me were all absolutely delicious.
The icing on the cake for us though were the fabulous, attentive, friendly staff who work tirelessly to ensure that our visit was perfect, thank you all so much!
Visited as we’d received a recommendation and were going to theatre nearby.
First impressions were excellent, stylishly kitted out and a warm welcome from the staff….then it got even better!
Lovely menu (lots of slightly different options too) and when the food arrived it was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. We really can’t fault anything….and we’re pretty picky! I had the honey chicken and it was so so tasty. The portions sizes are very generous too.
The service was excellent and the prices very reasonable indeed.
I really hope this restaurant thrives as they’ve thought of everything and deserves to do well.
We’ll definitely come back when we’re next in the area. Thank you for a superb meal
Went here for a meal after returning from a week's holiday which we always do if possible unfortunately they are now closing earlier and often they are closed when we return, so disappointing as we really enjoy our meals there. As usual had a lovely meal 😋 staff as usual were great friendly helpful and cheerful, was very sad to hear that they are closing down soon, such a shame as it's a really lovely place excellent food, good quality, and very good price. Hope to call again before we lose you 😟 .
On holiday in the area and thought we’d try here, the pizzas were excellent, the best takeaway pizzas we’ve had. The stuffed crust was also really tasty. Big portion sizes too
Great welcome when we arrived. Think its the best fish and chips i ever had at a very reasonable price. Locals all friendly and happy to chat and spoil your dogs. Breakfast equally good. Very happy to recommend and will definitely return
We have been customers of Bistro en Glacé for many years, long before the current owners took over the restaurant.
We visit 3/4 times year spending approximately £150 every time.
The food has always been good until our most recent visit when we experienced an issue that should have dealt with in a much more professional manner. We were not upset about the fault re one of the main courses as everyone makes mistake in their own occupation, that happens, but for me you judge the true values of a business by how the handle negative circumstances and in this instance Bistro en Glacé failed miserably.
Our son ordered his usual, steak with peppercorn sauce, which he’s had several times previously at this restaurant. After pouring the sauce over the meat and fries he took a mouthful of food and commented that the sauce was not right. My wife and I tasted it and it was clearly wrong, it tasted and smelt cheesy as if the cream used was off. It was truly awful. I commented to the waiter and he went to the kitchen. We naturally expected that a replacement would be provided, that would have been a normal response. Instead after several minutes the lady that we assume to be the owner came to our table and said that she, the chef and waiter had tasted the sauce and it was exactly as they make it and turned away. That was patently not true as my son had eaten the peppercorn sauce on previous occasions and it had been nice.
At this stage, I was understandably disgruntled and ready to tough it out but my wife and son do not like it when disagreements occur so for that reason I very reluctantly held my tongue. My son eat the very few mouthfuls of fries and steak that were not covered with sauce.
Later that evening we received an automated text message from the restaurant requesting review. It was negative, explaining why as I have in this review and invited them to respond. Had they reflected and realised they had failed in the first rule of commerce “Customer is King” and apologised we would most likely have put the experience behind us but they did not respond it just reaffirmed their only priority was monetary and not customer satisfaction.
For that reason I decided to post this review to make others aware of our experience that could so easily have been avoided at minimal cost to them , their cost of a steak and a few potatoes, £10 at most for which they charge over £30.
Instead they will lose over £450 of our custom annually as we shall never again set foot in the premises.
BEWARE of overcharging at this shop. They don’t take cash, a detail you only find out when you are at the till, and was then overcharged by 75% on the card machine. As I wasn’t offered a receipt this fact wasn’t obvious until I was in an area where there was phone reception. Two trips back to the shop have failed to recoup the money and now no one is answering the mobile number I was given. Poor experience all round.
