Nice hotel for our overnight stop when travelling south from Scotland. Our room was clean and spacious and we slept well in the comfy bed. Morning breakfast was plentiful and tasty. We were on the second floor, in the eaves of the hotel, which was a bit of a struggle for two 70 year olds trying to get overnight cases up stairs without help. The TV was pointless as the picture was just pixelated (see photo); thank goodness the WiFi was good and we had our handheld tablets for entertainment.

We visited this pub around 4 years ago on a stay in Alnwick, now we were returning I knew I wanted to go back here! The food is proper home cooked pub food, the steak pie is not to be missed. The service was so friendly, they were so good with our little boy who enjoyed his sausage & potatoes from the children’s menu! Can’t wait to come back

Very overpriced for what it is. Stopped off here today for a quick bite and a coffee. Ordered a Cheese & Onion toastie at £8.25 and a coffee at £3.25. The toastie was a very light in the filling department given the price and it came with a tiny ramekin of crisps and a dollop of coleslaw. No cutlery was given or offered. The coffee was plain filtered from one of those glass jugs where it sits and stews for ages. The staff are pleasant which is why I’m not giving this one star. The rest of their food might be brilliant which I would hope given the high number of excellent scores on here but for what I received and was charged £11.50 for the privilege it was vastly overcharged. Won’t be stopping here again which is a shame as it’s in a decent spot for stopping off between Newcastle and Edinburgh.

I ordered the beef chilli nachos for around £5 - it was served in a little box which was filled with nachos smothered in lovely salsa, chilli and guacamole. It was lovely, too much for me to finish off...so i took the rest home for later. and the moretti is only £3.50 so what's not to like

We were staying at the very nearby Old Hartley campsite and decided to book Sunday lunch for ourselves and 2 friends. Two of us had the pork, one had beef and the other chicken. All stunning. The meat was excellent quality and well cooked. The Yorkshire Pudding tasty, lovely selection of veg and gravy. Probably one of the best Sunday lunches I’ve had in a while. Excellent service and food was beautifully presented. 2 had the chocolate caramel brownie for dessert which again was excellent. All in all a lovely Sunday lunch. Thank you.

Lovely pub and prompt service with friendly staff however the Sunday lunch was very average to say the least. The roast potatoes were burnt and hard to cut, the pork definitely wasn't pork loin it was more like chops and very tough, and the gammon was very thin and fatty. We've had worse Sunday dinners but can't remember when, definitely won't be back.

First time visiting Marshall’s with my husband and 6 year old. It was quite full when we arrived however we managed to get a table within 10minutes of waiting and got served almost straight away. The waitress was incredibly helpful with the menu regarding my son’s peanut allergy and although it was busy she genuinely seemed happy to help us. The food was INCREDIBLE. My husband and I had the breakfast option 2&3 and everything was cooked fresh and beautifully. It was hot to the table and no faults at all. My son had the pancakes and absolutely loved those too! Overall, it was a great experience food and service wise, it is however quite loud as it is a small cafe. If you have anyone with sensory issues I recommend bringing earmuffs.

I ordered gammon and chips with a side of peas and a pint of beer. Staff were really nice and OMG this food was amazing. The chips were proper home made ones and the gammon melted in my mouth 100% spot on. Hotel room was great and I would return.
