Bistro En Glaze in Northumberland

We decided to finally visit after having passed a good number of times. The food was lovely and the staff were nice and friendly.

We had a beautiful Sunday lunch at this gorgeous restaurant. They have the friendliest staff and the atmosphere is the best. Definitely one to visit.

We had a lovely brunch. The staff were very polite and even brought out water and a matt and for our dog to lie on. Can't wait to go back for an evening meal.

Found this restaurant which is also a cafe during the day by accident. Unforseen circumstances meant that we ended up staying at the pub opposite, The Ship. Food was excellent , they had something for everyone, service was with a smile and a chat . Checked we were happy at every stage of the meal and portion size was just right- we were hungry walkers . They also did breakfast for us the next morning and again although a standard full English the food quantity was very good. Yes I would recommend to any Hadrians wall walkers or anyone passing through. I didn’t see any car park but a minor point.

After a tiring day’s walk on Hadrians wall the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful. Our rooms were simple but spotlessly clean and comfortable. We ate in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast and both meals were very tasty and well presented. So many people were coming in to book for breakfast which is obviously a good sign. Can be thoroughly recommended.

Excellent 👌. Called in for a coffee ended up having a small breakfast each, delicious and only £7 ! Lovely lad (from Nepal) served us, polite smiley and happy to be there. Good coffee also. Lovely decor, bright clean and fresh. Wish we had stayed in rooms here, instead of at The Ship pub, opposite

Lovely variety of food, food was delicious. Staff extremely friendly, well mannered and a lot of genuine smiles. First time here however I will be back to try Sunday dinner. Music was great I had 2 of my dogs with me and 5 star treatment was given to them; bed, treats and water bowl. Young waiter was very nice and loved our dogs. The waitress was nice we had a lovely time talking and she made sure we were okay. Personally recommend visiting.

Stayed after completing day 4 of our Hadrians Wall trip. Need a nice place to stay and eat. Room lovely with very comfy chairs and beds. Had meal in the evening, Manager and staff couldn’t do enough for us. I am gluten free so had amazing dish and chips. Nothing was too much for the staff. Great Value for money. Will be coming back for a long stay.

Lovely bistro in Wylam Village, very friendly and accommodating. We visited with our two small dogs who were treated like VIP’s and provided with a bed, blankets and treats. We were treated well too, tue food was delicious and good value. Would definitely recommend if you’re in the area

Was pleasantly surprised to find a bistro like this in such a small village. The staff were very friendly and the food was a good mix of traditional and more modern. The beef dripping chips were particularly good. It was good to see that no service charge was added, something that has become too much of a trend in London.

What an excellent venue. The manager welcomed us and showed us to our table. The waiter was extremely friendly and professional. The breakfast was absolutely amazing. Well cooked quality ingredients served by a professional young man in a well maintained beautifully furnished restaurant. There is also a well maintained rear garden which looks like a great location for al fresco dining. Thank you for a great breakfast experience.

I’ve actually waited a really long time to write this review, if this business is under new ownership then my apologies in advance for what I’m about to write. I didn’t write this review at the time because I don’t believe in doing anything in a state of anger, much better to reflect and approach things in a calm way. That said… we drove past the place today and all of my initial ire came flooding back, hence me talking a little time out of my very busy day to write this. My wife and i had both had a very tough week with work and found ourselves exhausted on a Friday with the evening off from the kids. I suggested we go out for dinner to treat ourselves and we decided on The Bistro En Glase. We’d never been before but sometimes drive past and were curious. All we wanted was a glass of wine and a couple of decent plates of food in some place quiet and relaxing in order to unwind from the week. When we arrived we were shown to our table, the waitress was a little over-familiar but that’s not something that either of us mind really. We ordered some bread and olives to start, and that’s where it begins to go wrong. Firstly it took an age to arrive (the place only had 8 customers plus ourselves), and when it did arrive, the bread had clearly just come out of the freezer and was icy cold and hard at its centre. Never mind, we were both famished and had been waiting so long we just ate around the frozen bits and didn’t mention it to our waitress. Then came the next wait, also an eternity, for our mains. My wife’s main was so bland that neither of us can quite remember what it was.. some sort of risotto we think, likely vegetarian. Just a bland paste basically, poorly seasoned and cooked without love or consideration. Mine however was possibly one of the worst plates of food I’ve ever been served, especially in this price bracket. It was £23 (maybe more) for the monkfish. The fish itself hadn’t been prepared properly before cooking, monkfish had a terrible ‘second skin’ that’s needs removing before its cooked, if not you’re cooking something that will end up as a knot of brown rubber on the plate, its inedible and also looks disgusting. The rest of my food was just about edible, some sort of puree’d mush and over-cook veg. I couldn’t eat it. This is where things got nasty. The waitress came to take our plates away without mentioning the fact that the plates were still full of uneaten food. She came back minutes later with the bill and asked us through gritted teeth how our meal was. I told her that mine was inedible and poorly cooked, i stressed that I wasn’t looking for money off my bill or anything, we just wanted to pay and leave but if she could please tell the chef that we had been unhappy with our food. This did not go down well at all. She stormed away from our table and fetched her handbag then bizarrely emptied its contents onto a table just next to us, frantically fishing around for a lipstick which she then proceeded to angrily apply. She then stomped off to the kitchen, came back and told us that we’d eaten all of the food so the chef couldn’t sample it (!!!???) to see what the problem was. Ok. Weird. I asked for the bill again and she was becoming increasingly irritated, ranting at us, insinuating that we were lying about something. I again pointed out that at no point had i asked for a refund of any kind. I had now paid. She didn’t stop ranting. I very calmly suggested that perhaps it would have been better if she’d just said she was sorry that we didn’t enjoy our food and let us go on our way, at which point she almost exploded. I kid you not, she jabbed her finger at me and told me that my wife was ok, but that i was a horrible man. Then she shoved us towards the door and hissed ‘get out!’ I had literally been as calm as a cucumber throughout this whole ridiculous exchange. As you can imagine, everyone else in the restaurant (there was only a few) were staring open-mouthed at us. We stood outside and looked at each other in astonishment “Oh my god, we’ve just been kicked out of a restaurant!” I’ve never ever, in the last 50 years of going to restaurants experienced anything like this. The food was appalling, yes, but the service was the absolute worst I’ve ever had. It seemed like the waitress was on the verge of some kind of mental breakdown and we were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. We have told this story to incredulous friends many times now, so i suppose their appalled amusement is the one positive we can take from this experience. Eat there at your peril. One last point, this place is shockingly over-priced for the quality of food they serve. The end.

This is an amazing restaurant. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. The food is also very good. We visited yesterday which ordinarily on a day like Mothers Day i’d be reluctant to do but as ever the service and food were fantastic. We’ve been a few times now and will definitely continue to visit.

Booked for Mother’s Day and a family birthday. Arrived to be told on being seated that the table would need to be vacated 1hr 15 mins later despite when I booked that table was available for two hours. I pointed this out to be told sorry and they were back to back, manager allowed us extra 15 mins! No way there was enough time to enjoy a three course meal in this time so only opted for mains. In fairness food was delicious but we did wait a while for it and felt rushed to eat it. Had to take kids meal home as was asked twice if we wanted it boxed up. Shame.. generally nice young staff, good food but put a dampener and rushed feel from sitting down.

Visited today with my wife and son for a light bite at lunch time. I had a splendid sausage and red onion sarnie in a lovely fresh baguette, and son had the same in a ciabatta bun. Both lovely, fresh and tasty, with great attention to detail. Possibly the best sausage sarnie I’ve had in a very long time. Wifie had a fresh cheese scone which she said was flavoursome and delicious. We had coffee’s and a fab time in the French bar themed dining area. Very well priced, friendly and helpful staff. If you’re in Wylam, do yourselves a favour and visit. We’ll certainly be back - the evening menu looks very enticing! 👍😉

We often visit as a couple or as a family and every meal is always to the highest standard. The staff and manger are amazingly friendly and it truly feels like a special day or night out every time we go. Please try breakfast, lunch and dinner and especially the olives! Fabulous lunch here today, perfect stop on our walk. Delicious, quality, generous portions, lovely setting with great, tentative, helpful servers. Looking forward to our next visit for an evening meal.

This hidden gem is well worth a visit. The food is way above what you’d expect in n urban bistro restaurant. Everything is home-made all the Yorkshire puddings in the Sunday roast to the melt in the mouth pastries in the deserts. We came here for Sunday lunch. I had fish pie (the finest fish pie I have eaten in my life. My partner had a traditional Sunday roast pork. Both meals were amazing and tremendous value! For dessert we shared the apple tart with vanilla ice cream again amazing if you like good food then you must try this place. You won’t find a better unless it has a Michelin star. The staff are very welcoming and friendly too! Had our regular haunt not being fully booked. we would never have discovered this place. What a great way to kick off 2024!

First time visit for a Sunday dinner. Can’t fault either the food or the service. Young waiting staff were attentive and knew their role well. Food was faultless. Would definitely visit again.

The staff were lovely, they couldn't have been more pleasant and attentive. The decor is really warm too. I had a burger and chips but unfortunately the burger was just out of a packet, for £16 I would expect a homemade one (the home made coleslaw was excellent). My friend had the fish pie for £23 so he expected something amazing ... The reality was it was a relatively small fish pie with too much mash and not enough filling. It was a Saturday night and the place was pretty empty which is a real shame because with some tweaks the place could be great. Sadly we won't come back.

Great starter of Chicken liver parfait, very generous helping, but the fish and chips came with garden peas not mushy as advertised on the menu! Not as described. We also found the owner and staff a bit over friendly, stopping to talk about themselves! We were on a romantic night out!!

We were staying in an air b&b opposite and decided to try this out for Sunday lunch. It was excellent. Great roast lunches for veggie and non-veggie customers. Delicious desserts as well. And the staff were great. We would definitely eat there again.

The fish pie is a favorite of local diners, and it’s easy to see why — delicious! The wait staff was attentive but not hovering. The manager was wonderful with suggestions and stories. The chef knows his way around a kitchen. Wonderful way to end the day’s walk. Thank you for a lovely memory.

Where to begin? From the second we walked through the door we were greeted with a genuine welcoming smile and chat. The food was outstanding and the vegan roast was devine..very fresh, hot, and delicious. Every little thought has been given to make sure we were happy. Our dog was welcome too! He was given fresh water, food and a bed! Great range of drinks too including zero beers, and excellent coffee. Wonderful service and great ambience.

We visited on a Friday evening and were the only diners there . 🤔 The young lady who took out orders for a starter each and two main courses asked if we wanted them all to be served together?? Errr no, we would like the starters first and afterwards the main courses. ‘Oh , some people like everything together ‘ she said. I ordered a large glass of Shiraz , I was brought a glass of rose wine . I had to point to the Shiraz on the menu. The rose was then put back into the wine bottle and back into the fridge. Our starters were ok , Tempura prawns and parfait. We both had fish and chips, chips were allegedly beef dripping chips . They were clearly reheated, stale, dry and really awful. I told the waiter but no response from the chef. The manageress appeared at 7:30 and said the chips were totally fresh and cooked today . She made a real effort to chat to us and was pleasant but we didn’t enjoy our meal and will definitely not return. We left at 7:50 and only one other table was taken , on a Friday night??! Speaks volumes.

Went back to Bistro en Glaze for our 3rd time this Sunday and it delivered yet again. The staff were excellent and very friendly. The food was amazing, best and freshest Sunday lunch out we have had in a very long time, we will definitely be back. Thank you.

Went to the Bistro with friends, early evening the dining room was empty, we were the first there. Lovely young waiter took our orders, it did seem to be a long while for the food to come out of the kitchen given we were the only people there. Eventually we did have our meals delivered. 2 fish pies, 2 risotto 1 fish and chips 1 pie. The fish pie was cold in the centre so was sent back, the risotto was still slightly undercooked but edible, portion size was very small (for the price) and the texture was a bit too firm and needed more stock and perhaps another few minutes cooking. The fish batter was soggy next to the fish and crisp on the outside, suggesting the fish could have been cooked longer, chips ok. The pie was excellent. By the time the fish pie returned, the other 4 diners had finished eating and the vegetable side dish (extra cost) had been eaten by the two waiting for their meal. More side dishes ordered, the fish pie was underwhelming without a lot of taste. During the meal we did ask if the extra side dishes would be complimentary but in the end they offered to take 2 of the drinks we had had off the bill, however when the bill came they had not charged for the extra side dishes. Given the glowing reviews maybe it was just a bad start to the evening in the kitchen?

Fabulous service in a fantastic restaurant. The vegetarian options were plentiful, interesting and delicious. Would recommend here without reservations for vegans, veggies and carnivores alike. Can’t wait to return here.

Called here with some friends, friendly helpful staff and a great menu . Well worth a visit for either lunch or an evening meal when we are allowed inside
