Its a shame the pub isn't open at lunchtime, but the owner did explain he can't get the staff or chefs. The area desperately needs a pub open at lunchtime, even although 1st Nov is considered "out of season" (the three surrounding caravan parks were all still busy). Very friendly owner, good beer, didn't sample the food in the evening. There aren't really any "cosy nooks" - it seems arranged for busy summer meal times. Dog friendly too.

I stayed at Kielder Campsite this weekend, visiting the Angler's Arms on two occasions. Early Friday evening was quiet and my meal arrived promptly. Battered cod, chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce. Standard pub fare and no complaints. The pint of local craft bitter was a good pint. I could have had a few more but intended staying awake most of the night... Saturday the craft bitter was off so I stuck with an Irish stout. Very nice it was too. I elected for a Tower Burger meal and unfortunately waited around 45 minutes to be served as the pub was very busy and they only had one chef on. To be fair the staff were very attentive and apologetic. A friendly female staff member gifted me a free pint of stout for my troubles. Once the meal arrived again, standard pub fare cooked well. Prices were reasonable too at £4.20 a pint and meals around £14. Overall I have no complaints despite the long wait at tea time on Saturday evening. A pub serving tourists that does not gouge is rare. If you're like me and don't mind a very down to earth pub, and are passing through or camping I'd recommend the Angler's Arms. Edit; Visited again this year 2024. Service was tremendous. Great pub food. Locally brewed ales were super. 5 stars all around. Back next year!

We're staying at Kielder Campsite for a couple of stargazing events, and have been down to eat at "the new pub" twice since we got here last Friday. We've been coming here for years...and years...and years...and have frequented The Anglers under several different owners. The *new* new owners have given it a fresh lease of life, obviously spending a lot of money and a lot of time and effort to modernise it and bring it kicking and screaming into the 2020s. It looks lovely inside now, open plan, lots of wood, quite Scandinavian I thought, but it is a bit nippy; the big roaring fire that used to be such a huge draw in the old pub - and was great for drying-out wet dogs and frozen stargazers alike - is no more. The food was, no exaggeration, absolutely superb. It was well presented, served quickly, and delicious. We had the Tower Burger on visit 1 and haddock and chips on visit 2, both generous portions cooked perfectly. Last night we had the American cheesecake for dessert and although the portion size was maybe smaller than we'd expected it was very tasty indeed, very smooth and creamy. Good range of beers and snacks too. So, it's great to have the pub up and alive again, we've missed it! The new owner clearly is determined to make it work, and we'll be going back a third time before we head home. Being constructive here, they do need to sort out a few things tho. Firstly, what it's actually called, as it's called "The Kielder Tavern" here on Google Maps, the same thing on business cards on the bar - and on the proprietor's shirt too - but it still says Anglers Arms on the outside of the pub and on the website, which is a bit confusing. Also, the menu shown here on the Google Maps entry is not the menu available in the pub, which will confuse visitors I think. (e.g they don't do "Full English Breakfasts" as advertised here). Obviously the Google entry is out of date, still referring to the previous menu, so that needs updating so there's agreement across social media platforms, which is where many customers get their info from now. But once they've got those issues sorted out I'm sure they'll go from strength to strength, and we'll definitely be frequent visitors whenever we're up here on our stargazing visits. In fact I'm hoping they're open this Sunday and doing the Sunday roasts mentioned in other reviews so we can treat ourselves before heading home. Fingers crossed...! Whatever it's called, it's good to have "the pub at the end of the path" back, and I wish them every success!

Had a great meal (gammon) here tonight. Nothing fancy but everyone is trying. Please support the Angler’s or it won’t survive and Kielder will not have a pub for a decent drink and something to eat.

Stayed in our camper van in Kielder Castle car park and walked the 5 mins down to the pub. What a warm, welcoming place on a cold (1 degrees) October night. Food was served until 21;00 - we had fish n chips & the roast beef sandwich with dippy gravy - delicious. The Angler’s Ale was very good and they served a decent pinot blush too. Malcom, the landlord, was v friendly and the atmosphere was great. Wish him & the team the best of luck - we will be back :)

We visited the pub/restaurant with high hopes after good recommendations, whilst being fully aware that remote places often mean longer than average waits and reduced selections. As the establishment was very busy when we visited I’m sure this was a major contributing factor… -After checking my bank statement at a later date i realised i had been overcharged for a round of drinks (im sure this was a genuine mistake and i blame myself for not being more careful at the time). - Poor communication between orders being taken (and paid for) and the kitchen. After a half hour wait from ordering we were informed that the only food available was fish and chips or scampi. - The fish was ok if over battered to my taste and a small part inedible due to the amount of bones in it. The chips were again ok but nothing special. - The service was friendly enough and prices reasonable. To sum up, i would avoid when busy.

We visited with our 10 year old daughter and also met up with our family who had a 10 and 12 year old. The pub is really well done out. We visited 4 times over the week and had a good chat with Malcolm the owner who is a top bloke. He had sweets on the bar for the kids and was great to talk to. Nicola behind the bar was lovely too as were the kitchen staff. I like my real ale and they had a few different ones on over the week from local breweries. All were excellent and expertly kept. The food was superb - home cooked with the pies made on site. If you are in the area we highly recommend the Anglers. Thanks to all for a few great visits during our holiday. I wasn't expecting much from the food here but it was actually, surprisingly good, perhaps they were a bit short staffed, but they could have been better prepared as there was a cycle event on, so waiting time for service was a bit long. However, the staff were really nice and friendly. Generally the whole place is due a revamp which would bring the surrounds to a good standard as it has everything else going for it in a lovely location and next to the campsite, this could be a really fantastic pub/ restaurant. Due to the owners response I require to clarify some facts here. I was a single participant in the cycling event not in any group and had nothing to do with the organisers or indeed any other cyclists. I believe I gave a reasonable review, however, I also appreciate some of the the owners comments , but certainly none of the ones which are very presumptuous and I believe are also highly accusatory.

Food: Very nice and fresh ingredients, the panini was good, served with salad and lightly salted nacho crisps. I think coleslaw should be added to that dish and an option to have chips instead of the nacho crisps. Service: Friendly staff, though possibly understaffed during lunch times? No one was at the bar when a few couples came in and a second person wasn't at the bar when another member of staff was having their lunch... hope they got paid during their lunch break! Atmosphere: Could do with a spruce up to make the atmosphere better. Needs to be brighter and the furniture needs changed as it makes the place look old (the homely aesthetic isn't there to be able to use that type of furniture). Also, when the first thing you see when walking in is a gambling machine, it screams dive bar... I'd suggest relocating it. Also, more signage is needed for the Car Park as it was a bit unclear at first. Dogs Allowed

Visited Kielder for over 20 years now and seen the Anglers change hands numerous times. The new owner has started right in my eyes. Get the food right first and then can revamp the pub and building along the way. Years ago we loved the Kielder cobbler pie this time we had pizza dirty fries paninni and steak. The portions were good the fish and chips are apparently great too. I can see great potential in the pub in the coming year. Only negative and could have been our fault with one we ordered potato skin starter and didn't specify we wanted it as a starter and it came with the mains no major issue really and the other was the lack of steak knives as camping hubby just used his pen knife. It's a dog friendly pub which is great for us, has a jukebox, pool table, decent selection of food, beers and single malts so heaven for me. Chatting to the owner who has recently taken over reveals he has further plans for improving the decor, furniture, layout, etc which is good to hear and we look forward to returning again when next in the area.

Having visited a couple of years ago can say the pub food has much improved. Wasn't a great fan of their own special brews this visit, but they did have some other better ale on tap. Reasonably priced. Friendly landlord, a younger barman was a bit arrogant though. Only place for decent WiFi for miles. Godsend for those camping at Kielder Campsite with kids addicted to their devices.

It's fine for an alright meal and a cold drink if you're staying on the campsite nearby. Bonus that you can access their WiFi too! The menu said that the burgers were homemade but were exactly like a burger van pattie... nothing to rave about. Odd atmosphere as the music kept on stopping and starting. Wouldn't rush to go back but it did the job.

Great pub, friendly, we'll run and very good food. Looks a bit rough around the edges just now but don't let that put you off, it's a great place for an evening, with the campsite nearby.

Doesn’t look the best, and is a little like a working men’s club and the banging door is very annoying…..however! The food and drink was brilliant….5 of us ate and we were not disappointed

Dark and Dingy pub. Thought we’d walked into a pub in The Worlds End. No music and when there’s not many people in there it’s silent so no atmosphere. Weird decor / lay out. Food was okay but nothing amazing. Chips were horrible and got given some sad limp salad on the side of my pizza. Wouldn’t go back but was fine for a meal staying at the campsite nearby. Dog friendly which is good.

Visited twice during a trip to kielder Village this week. First visit was just a quick drink but saw the food menu and dishes being served and had to go back. Staff were very welcoming, service was quick and food whilst basic honest pub grub, was delicious, good quality ingredients, presented very nicely and cooked to perfection. Place needs a bit of a refurbish but please don't be put off by this. Everything else was perfect.

This pub has changed hands twice since the pandemic. The current landlord has really turned it round. The atmosphere and service are back to the excellent standard that they used to be years ago. The food is also excellent with a very high standard of presentation and quality. The meals are also large enough to satisfy a good appetite.

A nice pub a short walk from where we were camping. Bar service and with the main bar seating area busy we sat in the large restaurant area. Food took a comforting 20-25 mins so we knew it was fresh. The chilli was excellent as was the Cumberland sausage, decent portions of both and a fresh salad alongside both. The Cold River cider was also very very good and added to our favourite list. In all a friendly pub with great food and drinks, thank you 😊

Better than it looks. Yes it could do with a bit of TLC but the staff are good, it’s family and dog friendly and more importantly the beer was good, ales are well kept and Guinness was great. We didn’t eat but the food looked like good proper pub food.

An excellent ‘proper’ pub with real ales and friendly bar. Separate restaurant for gastropub food which was very good. The steak pie is as previously described: fantastic! Home made that day with generous filling. Delicious. The menu and daily specials were enticing. Our meals were perfectly cooked (compliments to the chef). A great place for great price.

Fabyoulous restaurant The owner with great moustache was so so kind. The kitchen porter happy happy.crappie even when I undid his pinnie. Chefs food 500%. My husband had scampi followed by sticky toffee pud. I had chunk of cod with rice samphire . I actually had a Northumbrian oyster first attempt so salty but so tasty., Followed by their own version of Eton mess.best ever. Food was exceptional. I have been for a sandwich., they're massive. We sat outdoors. It's family run. I'd go every day if I could. People are lucky to live with this lovely place. I'll be back., apologies I forgot your name Bonny lad who looked after us.....

Went for the 2 course lunch menu. The food was very tasty but the portions were measured to say the least. Then we made the mistake of opting to finish with Turkish coffee without checking the menu for its price. At £9.20 for two thimble-fulls it was a sobering experience.

Overall enjoyable with a disappointing desert , rhubarb and custard tart mainly consisted of an extremely stale and soggy pastry case which tasted like it had been made days ago and just a tiny layer of custard I couldn’t scrape from the pastry rendered the majority of it unpleasant , icecream was very poor too not at all creamy. If I’d been asked at any stage how the food was I’d have mentioned it but while service was efficient no one at any stage asked so just asked for bill and paid. Other negatives were the dishes used for starters are awful , rough coated pottery which sets teeth on edge with the sound and feeling of cutlery making contact. Overall experience ok but not sure I’d rush back , might try Sunday lunch.
