I visited the hotel only for a night due to a meeting I had to attend the following day in the town. The location of the hotel was perfect just opposite the train station and the person at the reception was very friendly. As I arrived just before 9 pm I questioned if the restaurant was still open in order to have some dinner but they informed me that restaurant closed at 19.30?! I thought it is too early and I had never experienced it in any other hotel. Once I joined the room there was a funny smell coming out from the bathroom and the room was super cold even though the heating was slightly on. Especially inside the bathroom I was freezing so I had to take a shower very quickly and jump inside the bed in order to warm up myself which isn’t very relaxing after hours of travelling. Lastly the following day even though my company’s reservation was breakfast included, in the morning I had been given the choice of complimentary breakfast only which was very very limited. Not even to mention that the check out was 10 am and the cleaners were speaking loudly outside of my room since 9 am stressing me out while just 5 minutes before 10 am I heard them saying “come on people 10 am is the checking out time” which I can definitely say it is not the way any hotel should perform. Overall it was a disappointing visit and I would never come back.

I booked this hotel w/ Expedia, which I've done many times at many hotels. This is the worst experience I've ever had dealing with a hotel. There was one had no one to check me in. I waited and walked around premises for hours & found no one. Eventually it got late & I didn't want to sleep in the street, so I found and paid for another hotel (which by that time, only left me with very expensive options) If that's how you do business & are short of staff, ok, but it's not ok to not refund my money when you provided zero service.... especially if you allow customers to book & pay for rooms at your hotel for the night when you've already closed reception/check ins for that day. Also, the phone number on my booking details was incorrect, so I had no way to call anyone at the hotel myself at that time. Since then, they've been contacted multiple times and have so far refused to refund. This is immoral and not how you do business. If this is how they do business, they deserve the failure that appears to be in their future.

Jumped off the East Coast train to run a works meeting online. The Castle had just opened at midday and I asked if there was anywhere quiet I could sit and do my call. The very kind bar lady let me use their lovely meeting room free of charge! I bought a soft drink and made sure my tip covered more than just the drink! Did my work then jumped on the next train. Absolutely fantastic service….. Thank you!

While working nights in the area, I was arriving at the Castle Hotel each morning around 0645. Fiona and Milly had breakfast ready for me and always asked if I required anything for my rest period. Food was first class and the personal attention afforded to the guests at breakfast is outstanding. Well done Fiona and Milly. Highly recommended.

Our 2nd time here in 2 months. Dog friendly..both couples had a dog. Fantastic location, ideal for mainline train station and buses to Scotland! Eyemouth worth a visit. Very friendly and helpful staff. We arrived at 1pm and had arranged to leave luggage, but rooms were ready so could book in 3 hours early, which was a bonus! Immaculate rooms, very spacious with lovely comfy beds.Excellent freshly cooked breakfasts. We ate in a separate room to restaurant, so that our dogs could be with us for breakfast. Absolutely perfect hotel if you're bringing your dog with you. Would highly recommend this hotel and we'll be back soon.

More than expected. We stayed in the apartment at the top of the hotel, so there were two flights of steps to climb. The rooms were clean, bright, and spacious with a private "large" bathroom with a separate shower, bathtub, sink, and WC. The hotel staff were very pleasant and were quick to help out with a payment issue that arose. Food was typical or this grade of hotel, with full English breakfast, cereals juices, coffee, and tea. I would definitely recommend this hotel as a great choice if staying in Berwick Upon Tweed.

Enjoyed our 3 night stay for a double birthday weekend. Located approx 100 yards from train station. Staff warm and friendly. Hotel looked like it had been recently refurbished. Baggage storage available at reception. Rooms clean with tea and coffee making facilities. Complementary water. Large en-suite (room 4) with good sized walk in shower. Excellent breakfast. Disappointed that the restaurant is currently closed for evening meals. A second disappointment, on our final evening after returning from a meal, we found that the bar has a tendency to close early if no one in, so we had to venture out again for drinks. Despite this we would definitely recommend and would return.

Situated only a couple of hundred yards from the railway station, it's ideally located for a drink or meal before catching the train. We arrived a bit early for the start of service (1700 hours) in the restaurant, so went to the bar for a drink first. A good atmosphere and the bar staff were friendly and helpful. The bar was pretty full for a Wednesday late afternoon (1630). Prices were good (two and a half pints of beer for £8) when you are used to London prices! We went through to the restaurant at 1715 and again several tables were soon occupied. Everything was very clean and the tables sanitized between customers. The food was excellent as were the staff, friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and chatty.

Dropped in here for a beer before getting the train home. The hotel is about 200 yards from the railway station and was an ideal stopping point for our last beer of the day. The bar was quiet when we went in and the receptionist came to serve us as there didn’t appear to be any dedicated bar staff, but this didn’t take away from the good service. Another bonus was this was the least expensive drinks that we bought in town that day. The hotel is an old building, which looks as if it has had a recent refurbishment. It is in a great position for thirsty train travellers and we intend to revisit the next time we go to Berwick by train.

Had a lovely meal here last night. Restaurant was fairly busy, our food arrived in good time after ordering. Burger was amazing and when I commented that on menu it said sweet potato fries but it came with thin chips the waitress went and got some sweet potato fries which were lovely and I’m glad I mentioned it as it was one reason if ordered the burger. Hubby and daughter enjoyed their korma curry with 50/50 rice/chips. (Although skimped on the chicken) good value, very clean restaurant and staff very pleasant. Managed to get a table for 7:15 pm when I rang at mid day. A couple of tables were complaining about how long they were waiting(50 mins) but this wasn’t our experience just an observation on the night, we felt the time waited was fine for good hot quality food.

Just been to The Castle Hotel for an early dinner. The staff were all very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. We had a drink in the bar waiting on our table as we arrived early and asked for a window seat. My husband had Black pudding and goats cheese with salad leaves and balsamic vinegar and I had homemade pate with toast and a lovely jam. For our main course we both had Sunday roast. One had pork and the other had roast beef and turkey. The portion sizes were very generous but we both managed to finish it. It was delicious and with huge Yorkshire pudding. Prices very reasonable too. Will definitely return next time we are in Berwick.

Friendly staff. Good price on drinks, pub food nicely presented. Recent refurbishment and Covid awareness has left this fine old pub with a slightly clinical ambience, but I wouldn't mark them down for this; it's what we are being asked to do. The fish and chips were especially good. If you just want a "pint" you can get one for £3.00 😊😊

Popped in for a drink hoping to get a meal..... Not a chance... Nice looking place drinks reasonably priced... Staff.. . Let's say would like to be elsewhere. Tables like velcro quite sticky... Ask for service from the staff and it just seems to be an issue... Not allowed food in the bar even though other diners are eating in the bar. Either our faces don't fit or they aren't interested. Been here 1 hour only 1 table occupied in the restaurant but they still claiming its fully booked. Very rare somewhere I go has no positives but it's the last time I'll be here... We took our Grandaughter for a meal here after being there several times before but not impressed with the food at all , my husband had a prawn cocktail starter which was rather tasteless and our Grandaughter had garlic mushrooms with a plate of salad , which she left , I had the scampi as a main course which tasted good but the chips were just insipid and undercooked and the salad on the plate boring .. no dressing .. my husband asked for the battered haddock he expected a large haddock but was served two fish fingers battered and chips with peas . My Grandaughter asked for a chicken burger which came battered ! No mention of this on the menu ! She spent most of her time trying to scrape the batter off the chicken and left this with the insipid chips and boring salad , I would think more care should be taken with all of the allergy problems now.. she can’t tolerate batter ! Anyway rather than make a fuss at the table I pointed this out when we paid the bill .. sorry to say but as locals we will not be returning.

Just left the restaurant. We didn’t have a good start as we waited 25 minutes for our starters only to be told that they had run out of one of the starters we had chosen. Main courses arrived and both the steak dishes didn’t look appetising. Steaks were not cooked very well and unfortunately were very tough, didn’t seem like sirloin at all. Onion rings were too greasy to eat. Didn’t get asked if we would like any other drinks during our meal even though our glasses were empty. It’s such a shame as The Castle had come highly recommended. Young waitress was lovely but the other member of staff on duty in the restaurant was rude. We wouldn’t go back

We were very disappointed after all i was told to come and use the bar area.I Explained to the waitress that i had tried to book, after this they were very accommodating and did make sure we got served straight away , however we didn't have the full choice of the menu as they were so busy. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was also excellent. We will defiantly be back ,( good menu when its available) , friendly and helpful staff

We were warned before we went to The Castle that food portions were good value. Wow. The food and service were excellent and the portions were huge and certainly not over priced.

Had an evening meal here whilst visiting Berwick-upon-Tweed Very busy, bar area quite noisy but restaurant quieter, modern heavy wooden furniture very clean, Short reasonable wait for food, rather limited menu choice for each course however, food was very good and of ample portion and very reasonably priced. Staff were all friendly and chatty. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. This restaurant is popular, it is, sometimes, possible to walk in and get a table but it is advisable to book especially in peak season

I want to go back here - maybe next time we'll stay in their hotel, even if it is a bit noisy! We arrived early evening and settled into our B&B around the corner. This place was recommended for food and after a little walk around the town, we wondered in. It was very busy with large parties but we were greeted by passing staff as soon as we stepped in and given options. In the end, the bar being full, we were seated in the restaurant. Having had a big Sunday Roast earlier, we just wanted a snack and maybe share a dessert. The place is so delightfully traditional, I could almost guarantee some sort of sponge pudding with custard. In the end we didnt have dessert - because we were so FULL!I had soup, the bf had a sandwich and chips and we could barefully finish those generous portions. Had we had a little longer there, I would still have had dessert.

We had the whole main restaurant to have our Christmas meal which we had all pre-ordered. I had the pate which was very chunky and tasty served with a salad and lovely relish. The turkey dinner was huge (I did finish it but it took me over an hour, and most failed) The meat was chunky and the veg were nicely cooked and extremely plentiful with extra gravy and cranberry sauce. The cheeseboard was also large with a big selection. The wine by the glass is one of the biggest selection and cheapest in town for nice quality. All followed by games.Well done again Kirsty Jim and all your staff.

We have eaten here several times and have always been extremely impressed with value for money. The menu includes pub favourites as well as a good selection of meat dishes and specials. The menu at first glance does not look good for vegetarians but you only have to ask and it will be done. The staff are really helpful and service is good. Prices are fantastic and the whole is excellent value. It is a great place to call into for a casual meal. The restaurant is located right by the train station in Berwick.

Its a shame the pub isn't open at lunchtime, but the owner did explain he can't get the staff or chefs. The area desperately needs a pub open at lunchtime, even although 1st Nov is considered "out of season" (the three surrounding caravan parks were all still busy). Very friendly owner, good beer, didn't sample the food in the evening. There aren't really any "cosy nooks" - it seems arranged for busy summer meal times. Dog friendly too.

An excellent ‘proper’ pub with real ales and friendly bar. Separate restaurant for gastropub food which was very good. The steak pie is as previously described: fantastic! Home made that day with generous filling. Delicious. The menu and daily specials were enticing. Our meals were perfectly cooked (compliments to the chef). A great place for great price.

Great service and great food. One of the best chowders I've ever had. Definitely going back the next time we're in Rothbury

Went for the 2 course lunch menu. The food was very tasty but the portions were measured to say the least. Then we made the mistake of opting to finish with Turkish coffee without checking the menu for its price. At £9.20 for two thimble-fulls it was a sobering experience.

Meal was very nice. Service not so good. Took ages for drinks, they eventually came with the meal, asked for mint and horse reddish, was nearly finished the meal by the time they arrived.
