Lovely food, there was a lack of atmosphere, it was very quiet when we visited, maybe that explains it??

Had food here and it was great. Decent size portions, good value and the Steak and Ale pie was pie and not just a lid on top! Highlight was the dessert, I know it's hard to get sticky toffee pudding wrong but this was very nice. For a smallish place it had a good set of menu options, so it's worth going to if you are in the area.

3 course meal for sixty quid including a bottle of wine very good value. Service 👍 young lad Very polite would definitely go back.

Thoroughly enjoyed a meal at The Queens Head this evening. Service from Catherine and Jordan was exceptional. The set menu was a great deal. Will be back!

Visited The Queen’s Head for lunch with a group of six. We all ordered together at the bar, clearly stating the same table number. Despite this, only half the meals turned up after 50 minutes. The rest arrived 25 minutes later — that’s 1 hour and 15 minutes after ordering — and only because we chased it up at the bar. While the chips were clearly fresh, the burger had clearly been sitting around — it was barely lukewarm. One of the kids asked for BBQ sauce when the meals were brought out. The server said “no problem, I’ll grab it for you” — but never came back. The place is clearly massively understaffed out front. The team were pleasant enough but overwhelmed and disorganised. For a place that looks like it wants to offer decent pub food and service, this was a letdown. Won’t be returning. Price per person does not reflect the standards. Also if I may add, the biggest liberty is not telling people there is a wait. If at the bar we were told: hour wait on food you set expectations

Called in for lunch as it seemed quiet and the menu looked good. Ordered a starter and a burger. Waited an hour to ask how long to be told it wouldn’t be long. After another half an hour we went to cancel the food and the order wasn’t even there so clearly hadn’t even checked. No apology or anything just walked away from us. Wouldn’t recommend. Burgers looked like tinned burgers from the one meal we seen leave the kitchen

Landlady "Jordan" what a lovely lady... Very cheerful and welcoming The queen's head hotel is rather nice... The whole family are pitching in since Jordan took over last year... Vivian was busy cleaning today and doing a brilliant job, the bar and tea rooms looked spotless (Photos) she was another really nice lady... When Vivian left I was left in the capable hands of another family member Paula who lit the real fire and made the other customers feel welcome. The Queens head is a unique multi leveled building with 9 letting rooms Very comfy seating and a warming fire made it feel very cosy, free carpark I had a great cup of tea in the dining room surrounded by locals enjoying a coffee morning get together... This is a great hub for the locals. Thank you for looking after me during my visit 🙂👍

I called in just prior to our booking to leave a birthday cake. The staff were so kind and made sure the table that was reserved would be suitable. When we arrived for our lunch they had put balloons on a chair and a banner was on the wall. Our food was delicious and my grandchildren were also made welcome. They made our celebration perfect. Thanks you all the staff 💕💐

Has a family we go out most Sunday for lunch so seven of us had, one of the best Sunday roast at the queen head ,the staff were lovely ,we didn't feel rushed. the food was beautiful and very enjoyable and omg the sticky toffee pud .we made the journey from Newcastle and we'll be back

Delicious meal, lovely cosy atmosphere and excellent service! Enjoyed a homemade chicken and ham hock pie and rump steak - both very tasty and good portion sizes. Thank you and we’ll be back!

I have been staying at the Queens regularly over the last few months and I couldn't recommend it highly enough, rooms are very warm, clean and comfortable. The restaurant is great and the bar is the best in Rothbury . Jordann and her team are very welcoming and attentative , I wouldn't stay anywhere else .

Used the Queen's Head Hotel for a couple of weeks as a base whilst visiting family, everything was just perfect, food was great, room was fantastic, the bed was amazing and comfortable, Jordan and the team just left me to come and go as I pleased, but we're straight there if I needed anything, definitely going to be staying here next time I am in Rothbury,

Lovey cosy warm room. Loved how high the bed was and very comfortable. The bathroom was very modern but had a very strong smell of ammonia that made my eyes water and gave me a bad head. Am guessing it was what was used to clean it but the smell never left. The breakfast was lovely too . Cooked fresh to order. I loved the fact that dogs can stay to I will remember that for future reference. The bar had a lovely vibe with local folk .

Our impression was of very much a local pub for local people, not exactly warm and friendly to visitors. The service was good once we were seated, however. The Sunday lunch was mediocre. Big portions, but not very fresh or flavourful. Not to my taste.

Absolutely outstanding hotel. Lovely rooms, amazing staff and great location. Nothing I could possibly fault. The only place to stay when visiting Rothbury!

Very comfortable, clean with good decor and staff were very attentive. However, the food was not great…….very basic, not much going on and small portions. This place has lots of potential so I do hope they manage to sort out the standard of food.

Lovely little pub ,friendly service. I had the steak sandwich (bread was thin not how a bloomer is supposed to be) and was not worth the money. A big piece of fat was not what I wanted to chew on! Steak pie was lovely..

Very poor meal. Full of grease and frozen chips. Not presented well. This is one of the worst pub meals I have ever had .

Food quality very poor time we waited for dinner on Monday and breakfast on Wednesday was in excess of 45 minutes. To be very disappointed on its arrival. Room needs good clean. Shower was appalling no control over temperature either too hot or cold and no water pressure. Staff however that we did encounter on our stay were nice and friendly especially Leo. Generally feel the hotel looks very tired in need of some TLC a shame because it's a nice building in a lovely area Thank you

Lunch menu portion sizes were small especially the frittata, chips weren’t skin on fries more like bag of frozen chips. Fish fingers were tasty and crispy but came in sliced bread not soft farmhouse bread. Staff were friendly and warned us of the wait due to being a larger group.

Nice and friendly. I can imagine it being really cosy in the winter. Good sized room, nice comfortable bed. Bathroom spacious but the temperature controls on shower were hideous. The plastic trim on shower screen was bright green with slimy deposits. A soak in bleach and a squirt in the corner of the screen would have done wonders. I am not a picky 4 in a bed traveller but the manky trim was avoidable. All being said the rest was faultless. Food much better than I expected. The beer batter on the cod was perfectly crispy and well drained. Good prices too. Please sort out the bathroom of number 5!

We stayed here for 1 night only luckily. On the plus side, the staff are friendly, especially the young girl serving evening meals in the bar. But apart from that I wouldn't set foot in the place again. The bedrooms are dusty, wed8dnt have a blind at the bathroom window and people could see in. There were cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and the whole hotel needed a complete clean and upgrade.

No food in the evening, chef was off. Breakfast was ok, nothing special unfortunately. They need more cleaners, what they have is definitely not enough! Banister post going upstairs was filthy should have been white. The room was nicely decorated, very comfy bed but again a bit of spray bleach on paint work and in bathroom wouldn't have gone amiss. Disappointed:/

We stayed for two nights. Good friendly service. Food is classic pub grub. Breakfast very good. However the whole hotel is in need of refurbishment.

We called for lunch good choice and tasty friendly staff and lovely decor. As it was a cold day the log fire was on.

Lovely little classic B&B in the centre breakfast rooms and staff were all amazing.

We called in on a Saturday afternoon after visiting Cragside. There was one other table within the food area and one girl stationed at the till within the food area which made it feel awkward somewhat. The food then arrived, the pastry on the pie was uncooked and the peas were really hard. I've never had peas this hard in my life so it did make me wonder why these were so special. The staff (not naming names because I'm not a grass) tried to take the plates before we had finished picking through it. There seems to be an issue with the till in there too. Everytime a card payment was taken, your till draw opens on whoever is standing there. Just a small security issue that might one day bite you on the bum. And please fix that door that keeps slamming 😂 almost developed PTSD from all the banging. Overall, I wish I tried other things and I probably would give this place a second bash but it would be my final visit if changes aren't made. Maybe a little more care to your customers even if it's quiet. Your customers don't need to give you the money when there's competition in the area, but make sure you give reasons for people to keep coming back!

Very pricey ! Chips too thick n not browned !

Very noisy room, from kitchen extraction fan, shower far too hot (could not control it) and no rubber bath mat (very slippy getting in or out with no handles) and a radiator leak. The bed was comfy but had a blood stain. There was no daily room service, so no change of towels and make your own bed. The breakfast was ok but no cereals or fruit or yogurts. The evening meal was ok but very limited in choice and service was slow. The staff in general were good but 1 to 24 ment she was run off her feet and having to run up and down stairs to the kitchen (health and safety). The manager was not there all the time. To sum up needs a proper manager, daily room service, more food choices and it's over run with DOGS in the bedrooms and restaurant. In reply I must correct you, that i was never rude to you or any of your staff and i did not enter any room i shouldn't have, i saw your chef in the doorway and i stood outside the kitchen and spoke to your chef politely. You haven't addressed the comments on no cereals or yogurts and no room service with a blood stain on the bed, but thanks for moving us, we did not ask you to do that. Dogs should not be in the restaurant, anywhere else fine. Regards G

Bar area very good with selection of real ales . Room very comfortable . Bedding clean and mattress and pillows high quality … waiting for breakfast….. 2nd time we have stayed over after Golf .

We had Sunday lunch today and it was delicious, really enjoyed it and the service was great. We had dessert because we were being greedy! It was delicious. I would highly recommend this lovely establishment x

Most surely the joke here is that this drab excuse for a pub with its well deserved reputation for being a third rate establishment is run by a pair of drunkards-one of whom had his licence taken off him for crashing his car whilst 3 times over the limit-not such a great advert eh!? The drunkards-heidi the hideous and alan the alkie...... 'dream' of retiring to Cuba whereas the truth is they can barely afford the fare to the airport........Be like so many locals avoid these grubby creatures-lowlifes as many describe them......They think they can besmirch people-challenge me - my advice-as is the advice of many 'if you don't shut your grubby mouths' then you will an enemy who will-within the law of course-ensure that everyone knows in the future your own pasts. Think on.

Sadly staff numbers were few,with only one person to be in both the Bar on one side of Hotel,with Lounge being on the other side,and only one till being in the bar area.

Don't understand why the rooms are not serviced/cleaned daily at this hotel..reason given..Covid....Every one of the 4 hotels we have stayed in over the last 5 months have had full cleaning/beds made up etc. Cost cutting maybe at the Queens Head?...Not a biscuit given with the tea tray.. Frozen mixed fruit offered one morning (still frozen)/no cereal..... the cooked breakfast however was excellent. Worst part of our stay was the disgusting toilet brush which we asked to be changed..we are still to be given an apology. We will not be returning to this hotel. ooked cooked. breakfast was excellent. Worst

Jordan was very friendly, kind and helpful! My boyfriend and I came up from Newcastle for 2 nights, will definitely be coming back to this pub! Did not get to try their food, but we will next time! Dog friendly too, lovely!!

At Queen's Head for New Year's Day, fantastic atmosphere and patrons. Folk music played absolutely brilliant.

Menu was so small I couldn’t read the print, asked. For coke got Pepsi cheap rubbish was so sweet I couldn’t drink it, food for a Sunday lunch was disgusting cold Yorkshire pudding filled with gravy to warm it up one slice of beef one spoon of potato veg I thought was salad as was raw I can’t believe this is called a lunch was like a kiddie meal we won’t be back that’s for sure, bad value for money we travel around a lot of pubs for Sunday lunches and to be honest this one’s the worst we’ve had yes we did eat most of it but never again I

Enjoyed a drink in the bar which was really relaxing and friendly.

Not much atmosphere, service ok. Went for Sunday roast, we both chose dual beef and pork as we wanted beef, but also fancied crackling. When meal arrived pork skin was soft and the fat runny. No crackling whatsoever. Otherwise the meal was ok. Pointed issues out to waiter, and thought maybe he would deduct a pound to make it a single roast, but no deduction. Won't be back.

Had a lovely stay here, dinner was lovely with cocktails and was reasonably priced room was very comfortable with a lovely breakfast that set us up for the day, the staff were nice and very friendly definitely recommend a stay here also there is free parking around the back.

Food is really good although a little shy on the veg as the portion recieved is for 2. Meat portion was really good some of the best gravy I've had. Dessert was also very tasty. Atmosphere was ok could of done with maybe some light music. Fealt like a library when we first entered. Staff seemed very rushed at times but also seemed to lack enthusiasm. This place is dog friendly.

Nice place to rest your head, rooms where big and the bed comfy. Only served food one night out of the 3 I spent but it was well prepared and tasted good so no complaints there. Bar was well stocked and had a good atmosphere in there. Staff are friendly and happy to help.

Sunday Lunch Advertised as their "famous Sunday roast," I'm not sure of its status of being famous, but I will say it was really excellent! My husband had the roast chicken and I had the roast beef, both were generous portions. There were both roast and mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, mine had a Yorkshire pudding and the chicken came with stuffing. There was also the best gravy I've had in a long time. Thoroughly enjoyed everything about the meal. We were both too full to have a desert, which was a shame as the choices all sounded delicious. The service was good and the price was very reasonable for the quality of the meal. The only negative was that you couldn't pay at the table, rather you had to go into the bar and queue up to pay, with only one person working on the bar it wasn't the best end to a lovely meal. Maybe this is something the management should consider changing.

Great food and welcoming atmosphere. The whole village is a great visit.

We stayed in Rothbury for a few days on holiday and booked the Queens head for food on our last night. After booking online, we received a text through to say our table had been booked. We turned up on time for the bar staff to say there is no food served tonight. No one had bothered to get in touch to tell us, which was really inconsiderate.

Staff were excellent, and they also made me feel welcome .The choice of food was fantastic and plenty of it, breakfast was freshly made as this was not a self-service meal , had a wonderful 2 days stay

My mum gifted her competition prize of a Sunday roast for two to my husband and I and we had a wonderful time. The food was delicious, with a lovely selection of fresh vegetables, and the service was fantastic - so friendly. The decor and furnishings are looking lovely following the recent refurb, too. We’ll definitely be going again soon!

Went here to eat whilst in the area. Friendly host and great food. My wife had the Scampi which was plentiful and she said it was delicious as were the proper chips. I had a huge perfectly cooked mixed grill. all of it was obviously cooked to order. Only downside was the two unused handpumps.

First time here, food gorgeous, staff helpful couldn't of done more to make us welcome. Party of 7 people.

Great place lovely atmosphere very reasonable and the rooms were exceptional.

Bitterly disappointed. Booked a table for lunch and drove four hours, only to be told the chef wasn't in today and the restaurant was closed. Why did they take our booking, or why didn't they let us know they could no longer honour it? What made it worse is that the staff member we spoke to didn't seem to give a Castlemaine's.

Thanks Julia and Allan for a lovely warm welcome and for looking after us this weekend. Our room was much bigger than expected and spotlessly clean. Loved the toiletries and cafetiere for coffees. Breakfast next to the fire thismorning was amazing. Can't wait to come back!

Rude as he'll owners threatening behaviour all on record waiting in a car park for 2 minutes when the pub was closed was feeding a unwell baby I own multiple business with car parking space and if they were not causing harm then whats the problem

Cannot rate this place enough - fit us in for Xmas dinner at last minute and it was fantastic. Alan is absolutely amazing and definitely the hostess with the mostess (not sure what the guys equivalents are!). The food is absolutely lush and it’s dog friendly too - didn’t take ours as they’re not well behaved enough. Thank you so much Alan and team for making our Christmas very special xx

Had a lovely walk around Cragside park and was feeling hungry pulled into a lovely pub (The Queens Head) greeted by a lovely gentleman who was very friendly and welcoming, service was prompt we had a cold drink, a beautiful Sunday Lunch followed by apple and blackberry crumble all food was hot and very very tasty. Jus got back from a 3 night stay, lovely room, and very friendly staff. They had a little issue with the chef, so had to get breakfast from the bakers and come back for coffee or tea, wasn't a huge issue it happens. But Heidi's full English was lovely . Will definitely stay again thankyou

Friendly atmosphere with live music, food and great beer.

Came here for a sunday dinner with 9 of my family member. We were waiting a while for the food and when it came out there was only 2 meals which turned out to be off another table. Waiting another 30-45 mins for the next set of food, when this came out it was also off another table. By the time the 3rd lot of food came out half of the family members had finished eating. The gravy was stock water. The food itself was alright, however when coming out for a family meal i would expect we could all eat together. Will not be returning here under any circumstances!

Slightly disappointing place to eat, limited one page printed menu with many items crossed off! After being seated at 7:20, we were told that last orders are 7:30. This was on a Thursday night in September! Disappointing on our first visit to Rothbury. However, the Italian restaurant almost opposite was a much better experience, buzzing on a Saturday night, and open later. Would not revisit The Queens Head.

I went one week day with my Granddaughter as a treat and was so disappointed. The food was awful. I had the lamb rump and it was served in a bowl. Everything piled in . Very small portions . The lamb was all fat and gristle the veg was soggy and over cooked and the orange gravy was more like brown orange juice. My granddaughter had the steak and it wasn't cooked correctly and was the cheapest they could probably get and she wouldn't eat it. I gave my order and they got it wrong and even when it came back it was still wrong. The coffee was terrible and was cloudy. I payed nearly £40 for the worst meal in my life. I complained to no avail. The staff stand and slag off the management between themselves when customers are there. Overall the worst experience I've ever had. I had to pay for more food on the way home as what we had was bad and insignificant.

Very welcoming public house with good accommodation! Room I stayed in was brilliant, modern and a fridge with fresh milk and filter coffee. Felt at home with the staff (Lorna and the guy who I didn't catch name, fireman, very chatty) would highly recommend and would definitely stop again! 100% top marks for service and rooms!

Room ok. Very friendly service but cooked breakfast very poor. Eggs were poached but like hard boiled. Avocado was brown.
